  • This month we visit Parker Lake in Jackson, Alabama and this was a place unlike anything this Hoosier has ever seen! Surprisingly I only saw one alligator, but he kept his distance and I kept mine :) There were so many Cypres trees that I had to be careful not to get lost! My Old Town kayak was decked out, took the PDL unit instead of the trolling motor for this trip. How did I do? Watch and find out.

Man that bowfin was epic! He should totally count in the tournament!

Yeah, they are fighters and mean as a snake. We do have an optional "trash fish" pot for every tournament, any fish that isn't a bass, but I never enter because I don't want to boat them and take a picture 😆 thank you for watching! BTW, I just subbed to your channel.

    Hey Jeff
You were fishing in a pretty place and you would think there would be a bass beside every tree but they do have a way of keeping us humble😂
I know a guy who has a ten cast rule and then he throws something different and thought that may be what I needed to do but then I realized he didn’t catch any more fish than me, he just worked a lot harder than I did. Having fun is my priority 1 and I know you are having fun! Keep on keeping on!

Hello Bill! Yeah, they keep me humble and frustrated 😁 I don't think I'll ever be the type to throw a ton of different lures, but I need to do better than 3 for sure. It was pretty and kind of scary looking, I thought for sure a gator was gonna take me away 😂 Thank you for watching my friend!

Hey brother thanks for sharing your tournament day I really appreciate your videos especially these learning experience videos! It is so important to study these lakes in pre- fishing learning everything about the composition of the lake and the weather affects the biting conditions it definitely helps you understand and build your strategy. Like they say in the outdoors community 2 is 1 and 1 is 0 this it’s your learning year in these tournaments and you can’t have your sweet without your sour! Now how you react and come back from a day like this is what makes you a better angler, so take what you learn and build from it for the next one brother! I’m sorry it wasn’t the outcome you wanted but hang in there you will come back even stronger than before tight lines sir take care and God bless!

@granvillej3316 thank you so much for the words of encouragement and support. I really wanted to pre-fish that lake but I just wasn't able to. I get disappointed when I don't do well but I also look at it like this. "the next best thing to playing and winning is playing and losing". At least I get to play! I'm gonna keep at it and keep growing and it'll happen for me. Thanks for watching and I'll see you on the next video my friend!

I also get tunnel vision when it comes to lure selection. Occasionally I'll put something on that is new or that I almost never use and I'll get I nice surprise. Anytime you get fish & don't come in last is a success

Thank you my friend. I've got to get better about that tunnel vision. I'm almost certain I would do better if I could become more versatile. I appreciate you watching and commenting!

Thank you so much! I appreciate the kind words. I just subbed to your channel, but I didn't see your bass video, maybe you haven't posted yet? I see you do a lot of pike fishing... that looks fun. We don't have pike down this way. Thanks again and tight lines my friend!

My friend seens to catch bowfin when we go. Though we hate catching them, they are fighters. I dont like anything with teeth. Always wanted to try and fish a place like that. We dont have them in Va. but places like that look alligators would be there😂. Great video. Keep the chin up. You look at my videos and i just catch trees. Of course tournaments are totally different. One reason i do t do them. I might as well throw my entry mo ey in the water like my lures in the branches😂

@monzsterman yeah, I saw one gator early in the morning maybe 50 yards from me. I kept my distance and he kept his 😆 when I first started fishing down here I was really nervous about gators, but not so much anymore. Bowfin are a big pain in the ass! But they are fighters! Thank you so much for your support and for watching, I truly appreciate you!

I am so guilty of that same behavior. The night before I come up with a plan and I'll have 9 rods rigged up with a perfect variety of baits and then I get on the water and only use 2 of those rods all damn day! If I knew I was gonna do that I could have left the other 7 behind to make things easier but it would be better to use them all. The reason it goes like that for me is when I'm in a kayak I'm moving around so much that my favorite bait is still fresh to any fish that might see it. Although I am also guilty of staying too long in any spot that looks fishy. It's funny because when I'm shore fishing I have a 4 rod limit but if I could carry more I would definitely use them to get something new in front of the fish. The point is: I should stick to the plan!

@jasonm1884 💯 percent correct. It's like I know I need a variety of options before I go fishing, but then I throw it all out the window when I get there. I think for me it is also the confidence factor. I am confident with top water and now the Texas rig, so that's all I use. I absolutely have to break out of that if I'm ever going to be competitive. Thank you for watching and commenting as always. Very much appreciated 👍
