    Great review Nick .I have the same kayak but did the unthinkable and put a Xi3 on the bow, just couldn’t live without the spot lock and other features without it.
    However the main advantage is the ability to fish in the weed infested small lakes I fish in Ohio . The standard motor does not have a large enough opening to fit a weedless Wedge prop and you can’t raise the motor to get above the weeds. The Xi3 solves these issues and will plow through almost anything. This makes this kayak a most versatile fishing machine. I also added a power pole and of course a set of your seat risers and transducer mount.
    Thanks Again

    Really good review. I don't bass fish, just troll salmon, trout ect. I picked up a used 106 MK to replace a Tamarack I built with a 30 lb Minn Kota. It's hard to believe someone would drop Bank on an Old Towne and cheap out on a battery! IMO a 100AH lithium is plenty for me at 170 lbs, I don't conserve power and use a fish finder all day. Some old dudes like me with back issues make the mistake of thinking they can peddle all day, better test that out before going that route. Great, solid kayak.

    I've had mine for 2+ years and very happy with it. Killed my 100ah lithium battery once and had to paddle a couple miles, it doesn't paddle well. The Wilderness kayak cart works great with this boat.

    Hello sir, why do you say this wouldn't be a good kayak for serious fisherman? How is the sound from the trolling motor any different than another kayak with a troller motor on it?

    • @NavarreKayakFishing
      @NavarreKayakFishing  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Just an opinion - trolling motors spook a ton of fish. Using one to get from point A to B is one thing but trying to reverse away from a pile of fish is going to spook them in this thing. You don’t have a ton of boat control.

      There’s a few options. You could add a pole to the left side and use your left hand to half steer or add a strap on the pedal to push and pull with your right foot. I think it’s doable though.

    Nice review Nick. I’ve had the 106MK for two years, and LOVE it! The only issue I have run across is the cables that attach to the rudder came off when I was out in the middle of a lake. It was a real pain to fix out there. I try to remember to check it now, before I head out to the water. Any solutions would be greatly appreciated.

    • @NavarreKayakFishing

    Hey Nick - thoughts about creating replacement gear track but in aluminum. My PDL 120 is great but for the plastic rudder and the plastic gear track, both feel to flimsy in my opinion. Yes I’ve added a number of your other upgrades which have been worth it so keep up the design efforts. Thanks!

  • @TravisDoesKayakFishing

    The noise statement you made is fact. I went fishing with a guy once who didn't say but two words on the water, and this dude was a talker. Asked him next trip what was up when he did it again. The man looked at me dead in the eye and whispered "Your scaring the fish" and was serious. Unless you drop tools on the non-padded deck or splash around in the water, you are not bothering fish.
    Nice kayak review too...

    Does the rudder on the MK have trouble steering in current from flex like the PDL, or does the bigger rudder help out there?

  • @billcoulter1984

    Great video Nick. I just spent 3 days paddling my kayak while fishing. I estimate about 8 miles paddling in 3 days and I’m worn out. I’m 64 and went bank fishing today just because i didn’t think i had another day of paddling in me. I need to upgrade my kayak to either a PDL or a trolling motor like the one you reviewed. I’m torn. Since i want to be able to carry my yak on a rack while towing my travel trailer I’m leaning towards a PDL. I’ve tested a salty PDL and liked it but wonder how I’d be able to manage a 3-4 mile day peddling. Sorry for such a long comment but given your experience I’d love your input. 2200 for the salty vs almost 4k for the 106mk w battery is a big factor. Thanks.

    • @NavarreKayakFishing
      @NavarreKayakFishing  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No need to apologize for the lengthy comment. It’s a tough choice. The money difference is pretty significant.
      Once the motor, battery, and seat are removed the 106MK is actually extremely light in my opinion. I believe the two kayaks would load on top of the travel trailer about the same.
