Hi friends! Today I am sharing my swatch and review of the Holo Taco Vacation nail polish collection for summer 2023. We have 5 new nail polishes in some exciting finishes, from holo to jelly to reflective shimmer, and they're all beach themed! Which is your favorite??

I’m a Hawaiian in Hawai’i and this color story is literally colors I see every single day. This screams island vibes and I especially love the shade beach please because it reminds me of certain beaches with beautiful fine sand that sparkles. There’s a green sand beach on the southern point of my island that is made up of a mineral called olivine and that would make a beautiful nail polish!
I would have loved to see them swap out the purple and pink for a vibrant orange or yellow and maybe a bright green! I think that would make a lot more sense for the color story. But the colors individually are very pretty like I said :)
@@KelliMarissa I 100% agree. The actual colors are pretty but together just are not pretty together. It may be colors others can justify in the collection and convince themselves it is, but together just do not work. In a collection, you want to be able to use the colors all together for either a skittle or other design, but these absolutely do not make sense for what this collection is supposed to be. Separately, sure. Like any nail polish. Together? No way.

Yeah I think there is a big dissonance is people only knowing the skies of their own backyard. Pink and indigo/purple skies evening skies and clouds are not common everywhere but I have caught it a handful of times and seen in photographs. So even if Im not a big fan of this specific palette and aesthetic, the choices are really not that out of place.
I agree with Kelli's swap. The color story is not screaming "vacation" or beach to me. Definitely missing green, orange and yellow.
The blue is probably the most appropriate. It's gorgeous!
I actually love the color story because it does feel beach-y to me haha. But I would say it’s an unconventional interpretation of a summer theme, but I appreciate that it’s so unique compared to similar collections now being released.
honestly, I totally understand the beachy vacation color story. the colors don't all go together as one quintet, but individually they make sense to me in terms of vacation + summery vibes.
But they should make sense as a collection or else they should just be individuals. The colors together are not very pretty. I’m sure if you ask someone completely impartial to Cristine and holo taco and asked them what they think the theme is, I’m sure they’ll say something like 80s? Neon? Not vacation beach vibes lol. Colors are nice individually but so what? Any nail polish is nice individually lol I wish there would have been a nice yellow or orangey instead of the same old purple and pink ones. The other three fit (except maybe a little lighter for the brown one) but the purple and pink are so wrong for this collection. But of course they’re top sellers in terms of colors I guess.
@@PrincessElisa8 But they do make sense. They match the skies and landscape of some beaches during sunset or sunrise. Sure it isnt the first thing the average person thinks of but so what? Color schemes dont exist in silos only applicable to one theme. Why do you think people go to indie brands anyways? If you want mainstream preferences and tastes, go to mainstream brands then.
And tbh I’m glad she didnt go for the cliche and stereotypical choice of using orange and yellow. Purple and pink polishes may be more common (across most nail brands too), but orange and yellow have been over done to death for summer collections. If I wanted another orange or yellow for a summer collection, I would check out every other summer collection for that. Their beige and gold flash reactive is enough to fill that gap anyways.
I normally don’t care for most of Holo Taco’s collections but this has been one I’ve been genuinely impressed with because how unique and original it is, even if its niche. I agree the skittle manicure doesnt look great but I see the colors looking great for nail art, especially stamping. You complain about how “all polishes look good individually” but how many people are actually using all the polishes in a collection all at once and not individually? Even Kelli pointed out its a minor thing so I don’t get how you are treating this trivial issue bigger than it is.
Its fine if you don’t like the color palette as its not my aesthetics either. But you’re trying way too hard in making your subjective personal preferences sound “objective”. Your comments on this collection come off as bad faith so it is ironic that you talk about being impartial to HT.
@@PrincessElisa8 "...Not vacation beach vibes..." Congratulations. You figured out why it is called the "Vacation collection" and not the 'beach collection' or 'vacation beach collection'. "Beach" vibes are only supposed to be a part of it, not the whole color story.
To me this is a beach color story. I live in south Florida and these colors are so Miami and beachy. It’s definitely a more island, tropical beach vibe, which is a very specific type of beach vibe.
In my experience Miami is a lot brighter but I'm glad some people can connect to the color story!
I love a good color story, but imo sometimes holding to a strong color story can limit the potential of the individual polishes
And to me, this is definitely a beachy collection! I really appreciate that it’s so different from most summer releases (with the exception of the obligatory turquoise :b)
Holo Taco really out here making me want sand colored polish 😂 I do love all the reactive finishes. It's so worth putting on a glitter quencher for the effect.
I wish they would make a glitter grabber top coat! The glitter formulas and now these reflectives really don’t smooth out, even with two coats.
Right, I would never expect to be drawn to beige nail polish 😅
I just love when a polish has multiple things going on. This collection and their last royal-tea collection have felt so unique and special and I'm loving it.

I'm putting the purple on my nails now and I love it! You're right, it's kind of weirdly thick. I'm SO happy it came with the thicker brush, though. I thought the same way about the color story as a whole, but I don't care about that, really. I put my polishes in color and effect order when I put them away, do I don't even remember what ones I bought at the same time. I don't mind the color story feeling different.
This comes from someone in a tropical climate but I personally don't understand the color story criticism. These are all colors I see on beach vacations. Maybe it's just a cultural thing to assign dark colors to colder months that I completely missed out on because we just wear whatever colors we want whenever.
Yeah I think its a cultural difference. I like dark polishes for fall or winter but this color combination didnt look out of place.

Bummed me out at first because this is probably my favorite HT collection so far but this color story being divisive to me is proof that it's unique and new so I'll take it!
Like I said on the brand video, I don't care about reflective glitters but I like what they add to the polishes in terms of depth and variety. The color story is actually very beachy to me! I could see rounding it out with a nice tropical green though.
I also thought it was a strange color story for summer. Not really good for a skittle. A yellow/orange and a warm purple would make it more like the sunset vibe of the box but I'm into the new finishes. Never Tide Down & Private Villa were my favorite and the most summery shades.
Yeah agreed! Loved the finishes but I felt that deep purple was a bit out of place, I think a golden orange color would have been the perfect replacement (especially in that same formula as Never Tide Down!!)
I’ve thought that too! I keep seeing posts about how they make a great skittle and I was so confused because I don’t see it
I wish all of the colors were the same, except the purple. I wish it were a green or an oragne!

I got my collection box and have a skittle on one hand and ocean and beach nail art on the other using Never Tide Down and Beach Please. Love them! The color story is definitely different but it still says summer to me. Cristine showed her mood board for each shade and it really brought it together for me. I may not wear them in a skittle all the time but so excited about all the different formulas!

My box is coming tomorrow. I think it's cool that they tried something different with the formulas, and I actually like that the color story isn't as typical summer. Late Checkout and Tax Haven would be beautiful for the fall as well. I'm super excited to try Never Tide Down and Private Villa.

In my opinion, this is the first collection from them that actually feels like an indie release. Their linear holos are gorgeous and I've liked most of their (non-creme) polishes, but everything else in their permanent catalog has been fairly basic until now. My box is getting delivered tomorrow and I'm excited! I am really sad about the wide brush, though. I'm strongly on team skinny brushes and it feels like she might be leaning towards just making the wide brush the standard one soon. :/
If you want to have skinny brushes for polishes in general, KBShimmer, Cupcake Polish, and Glisten ‘n’ Glow all sell just the brushes and stem(?) for like 30¢ apiece. You do have to dismantle the brush as a whole but it was a game changer for me with so many brand brushes.
I agree with all of this, including the skinny brushes. I got some with my rewards lol
Such a great collection!!! I agree with you that the color story is a little weird but individually they all look so beautiful!! I thought Tax Haven would be my favorite but after seeing your swatches, I think Never Tide Down is the most appealing! Though, tbh, they all are my favorite lol.

So glad you mentioned the color story. I did not get beach vibes from this AT ALL, and thought I was going crazy seeing everyone obsess over this collection haha. I love never tide down and beach please, but the others feel so out of place to me.
When I first saw the spill background being published, I thought we were flashing back to the very first holiday collection with the glitters. They are ridiculously similar color stories.

I don't really think that's fair because it wasn't exactly a beach collection (although their promo photos/videos were very beachy). It's a vacation collection. Some vacations are on the beach but others are in the woods with a beautiful night sky. I do agree though that it seemed like some of the colors didn't go together. I would put the pink, blue and sand one together and then the brown and blue/purple ones together. I still love the collection though and can see wearing all of the colors.... just not all together.
@@anne-mariee152 that’s fair! I honestly didn’t even realize I said beach, I meant vacation 😣 but yes, definitely the pink blue and sandy color are giving me the vacation/beach vibes. Not a bad collection, just not cohesive IMO.
I've had these on my mind since I saw the promo videos, and literally want them all!!! They are SO CUTE!!! 😍
I've never seen them in real life, but the one I'm most drawn to and most excited about is "beach please" (the sand one) but I would totally wear one color per nail, to wear all five at once on each hand and foot!!!
I actually find that all of the colors are cohensive and go with each other, but I think this is a cultural thing... fun fact, Christine is Canadian, and so am I! All of these colors resemble the elements of summer in Canada- the sand beige, the turquoise from either pools or the sky reflecting on the lakes, the red from the Adirondack chairs and maple leaves and the fruit punch, the brown from tree trunks and nature and docks, and the purple from berries in the forrests and bushes... there's a lot of "woodland" lake environments here lol. For me it makes total sense and is totally cohesive, and doesn't look out of place in the slightest to me... but again that's kind of an environmental thing that I'm used to, living with lakes and forrests and such 😊
Never tide down is beautiful!
The brown one reminds me of a coconut husk. Maybe this collection is inspired by a tropical beach.
It does feel tropical beach inspired! The brown, the beige, and the turquoise really feel beachy to me. But I think something with the purple is off, it feels like a winter shade to me haha. Someone else mentioned a yellow or orange would have been great and I agree!
I was put off by the tax name, it kills the Vaca vibe imo. I thought it should have been named Spray Tan if they insisted on that color. I think an orange or another blue would have better suited this collection.

It screams ALL INCLUSIVE RESORT COLLECTION. My fav is the indigo. I feel this is the most Indie type of polish. I love it.
I love the collection. For me the brown was the only outlier. It gave me coke or root beer vibes, but not vacation/beach at all. I think I will like that one more in the fall.
I think the brown and the purple feel like great fall/winter shades, although the brown and beige look nice together! It's just all together it feels a bit out of place haha
It gave me eclipse from ILNP. I do think its very beautiful though.
The brown gave me self tanner or tanning oil bottle vibes. For me the purple was the only one out of place but I like the shade on its own!
I love your attention to the details!! I love that you try to match your makeup to your nails and you also try to dress like the collection you are presenting. Definitely something I appreciate since I am all about those little details too!!! 💗
I saw another swatcher make a similar comment about the color story, but I totally get the purple as part of the sunset and the darker brown as colors of the sand and beach flora. This is a beautiful set, and I agree that blue is EVERYTHING!

100% noticed that you match your make up, I was a bit surprised today with the green since there was no green polish in the collection, but I thought of maybe for palm trees or another review you were filming with greens. The clothes I tend to pick up more on colour so today was very obvious you were wearing a beach theme (I thought blue for water and a sunnier colour).
Haha yeah I meant to make it a more turquoise makeup look but for whatever reason the green was calling to me and I couldn't resist LOL

I thought this was a strange color story too - Late Checkout and Tax Haven felt like fall and didn't seem to match the pretty turquoise and hot pink.
Beach Please is my favorite but I think this makes a great color story.
This was the first time I ordered the collection box from Holo Taco and the colors are so pretty!!! I just want to say I 100% agree with not totally vibing with the color story. Doesn’t scream summer beach to me. But I do love each color individually! I guess that’s what really matters. 😆 And I really hope they start using the wide flat brush for all future polishes. 🤞🏼

I looove this collection! Definitely one of my favourites so far. I totally get the colour story and love that they're all so different with unique formulas. I am wearing late checkout right now and also found it a bit thick, but good to know that the others I have yet to try out have the original formula feel!

I’m a chaos kind of girl lately so I enjoy the variety of colours and different finishes!! I still waiting on a collection that has the formula like Greyt. But cannot wait to get the new collection! Also I have become a wide flat brush with a rounded tip person. Glad that holo taco is leaning towards that and also cirque making it permanent!

I think it’s cool how different we all are but same love of the hobby. I was thinking that when I saw your review of Painted Polish which is nice but…not at all my vibe. I love this funky gathering of colors and finishes but I’m not one that needs a color story much at all. I’m glad you confirmed the formulas are pretty good overall!

I'm usually a purple person but in this collection Never Tide Down really stole my heart and I definitely need more colors in this formula!
Mine came in today. I am so excited! Cristine did a short explaining her thoughts on the colors. It makes a lot of sense. I wouldn't skittle this collection though.
I bought the whole collection, but beach please and never tide down are definitely my favorites! I have a sea turtle themed stamping plate and did some really fun reverse stamping nail art of turtles and shells on the beach and in the water!

The vibrance here is amazing! If you are ever looking for a comparison video to do I am curious on ILNP UP ABOVE and cirque colors snow cone or whatever light blue jelly they have. Those blues seem like they are similar but maybe not.

Yesss! I’m so excited to see your thoughts on the collection. I wasn’t sure what to think of them from the launch video or swatch photos, but seeing them in person wowed me. Late Checkout and Tax Haven are my standouts (they’re both going to be so good for fall!) and I hope formulas like these start to become more common for the brand.
We pretty much have the same opinion haha! Excited to see them branching out with the true indie style formulas!!
I love this level of flash reactiveness, especially in beach please and private villa - I'm always intrigued by flash reactive glitter but sometimes it's a bit much for me, so this seems like a good balance. Also yes I was immediately obsessed with never tide down too - the color, the glitter, the coverage. 😍
It’s definitely a great way to enjoy the reflective glitter without feeling overwhelmed by it!
Never Tide Down just takes the cake. I see the beach art in my head with Beach Please. Your shirt totally matches Never Tide Down also.

I almost always notice your makeup first lol!! I did order this collection, but I probably won't receive it until the weekend. Thank you for the review!! 😊🙏 I don't buy Zoya polishes anymore, but I still have an old bottle of Godiva kickin' around somewhere, and Beach Please intrigued me because of the texture description. It's not everyone's cup of tea, but I adore a soft sand texture (when it's intentional).
My favorites are Beach, Please and Never Tied Down.

Regarding your fun fact... I love watching your videos to see how you'll dress to "match" the theme of the polishes you're swatching! And you are usually spot on! I appreciate all the hard work you put into making these videos, from the obvious things to the maybe not-so-obvious background things that only a few of us will pick up on. It's one of the reasons I follow you and watch your videos, even if I'm not really interested in everything you are swatching (like this one - I know I'll never buy Halo Taco polish, it's too expensive for me and way over-hyped, but that's just my opinion).

I have noticed u matching vibes. U always look so cute. My favorite thing u wear and I notice every time is ur connected heart necklace. All that said, every single time I switch my polish it has to be the complete opposite type and color as what I was wearing. And when I go to work I have to match my energy drink to my nails.

Kelli, did the Tide color dry down smooth or textured?
EMOTIONALLY, the color story makes sense to me. But technically, you’re so so right, it really doesn’t make sense. The brown really doesn’t work with the rest (though it’s really pretty). That being said, I love the new formulas, especially the aqua. My philosophy with reflectives is that the pigments need to look beautiful even without the direct flash, and I think it works. I hope this is the beginning of a new direction for Holo Taco. The cremes and chromes can be found at drugstores but these are SO unique!
Mine arrived today and I love each color individually. Never Tide Down makes me lose my mind!
I felt the same way about the color story but love that they got creative with the formulas and hope that’s a trend moving forward for box collections. As for me I’m a sucker for any teal/turquoise/aqua color so I just snagged the few I liked. Honestly I feel like the Lite Mode collection could have been branded as the beach theme!
