    Welcome to Know Your Schitt! A Garry's Mod Machinima tutorial series teaching you how to make your GMod machinima look its best. Never forget though, that you will never succeed in making something halfway decent if you're not willing to put forth the time and effort it requires to stand up to scrutiny.
    Today, we will be learning the ideal settings for our three main tools in order to make your video look its best for the TH-cam format. We will be going through 4 different steps in this tutorial:
    1: Setting up Fraps
    2: Setting up Garry's Mod
    3: Setting up Sony Vegas
    4: Setting up Vegas Rendering
    Music: Lost in Las Vegas - Two Steps from Hell

    "I still can't decide between wmv and mp4 formats"
    Well youtube has recently made that decision easier, as something within their conversion process causes very ugly and very common artifacting for wmv, be aware!

      @minecastzyad48hussienmutah4 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've used both sony vegas and adobe premiere and I prefer premiere because of its frameblending, for rendering the video, go to file then click export and click media then in the little drop down menu of what format you want to render it into(in this case go with mp4 because its got better compression when using adobe premiere) select H.264, doing this will render it into mp4 BUT DONT CLICK EXPORT YET, go into it and find where it says what bitrate you want, if you want goo quality with pretty small files then I recommend having the minimum bitrate be 6 and the maximum be 12, in sony vegas the reason its videos get very huge in mp4 is because the bitrate of mp4 on 1080p is 12 minimum mbps and 24 maximum mbps so the files get twice as big. then click render and the video will be where you chose it to render too(where it says at the top of the render window "sequence 1[or something similar]" click that then select the folder to render it to then change the name and then your good to go)

    • @minecastzyad48hussienmutah4
      @minecastzyad48hussienmutah4 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      is it really dark? if thats why then when you customize the mp4 template you should change the bitrate from 12 minimum to 6 and 24 maximum to 12 which will not only make the files smaller but they wont be nearly as dark when you watch them, I had this same problem

    He went over this in his SFM vs Gmod video.
    It's a LOT of work. And animations can often appear floaty if you don't put a ton of work or are experienced with teh animations.
    Gmod takes care of a lot of the floaty animations, the downside is they often look goofy, but that often just makes it better.

    So what you're saying is that you need a beast of a computer to make a gmod video? My computer fucking sucks, and before anyone says "hurr durr buy a new one" I don't have any money. "Get a jerb" I'M FOURTEEN AND I LACK KNOWLEDGE SO EXCUUUUUSE ME PRINCESS. My allowance is farely good, but I can't really save up with it because that would take YEARS. Dxtory is truly the best.
    It even allows you to play at a different FPS from the one you are recording a video at. That's the problem with Fraps: lets say you want to record a Battlefield 3 MP match. With Fraps you are fixed to or 30 or 60 FPS. And if you don't have a very good PC you will drop from 60 to 30 FPS.
    With Dxtory, you can still choose your preferred FPS for the video, BUT you keep the FPS you already have while not recording. So you don't feel slowdowns to 30 FPS like in Fraps.

    Just for your convinience, if you have a nVidia card you can take advantage of the CUDA drivers for faster rendering of high compressed formats in short amount of time. I use this feature for the Adobe Premier CS4 and above and the time for rendering dropped about 150%. My cards are 2 GTX550 ti and is more than notably the difference of CPU rendering vs GPU+CPU.

    Processor? OpenCL is for GPU accelerated encoding, so that depends on your Graphics Card. Always leave that on "enabled if available", unless you are getting graphical artifacts in the rendered video. Having this on saves you a lot of time. If your Graphics Card is up for it and you have the necessary drivers installed it can make a big difference.

  • @SirCrest
    @SirCrest 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    The reason your WMV file was huge was because you were using a 100% Quality VBR. That's effectively telling WMV to encode lossless. 90-93% would have been just fine, and likely would have produced something of comparable quality to 5-6 DivX quantizer likely.

    It's probably easily confused because of the common error that comes up when trying to play mpeg files when they aren't supported "a codec is missing, or something along these lines" this usually happens when you try to play mpeg files on computers that predated the DVD, thus they don't have the DVD codec that mpeg files use. I learned this little fact the hard way... in a school project.

    As someone, who tried all of these recording softwares, I now use dxtory, because once you get a grip on the interface it's really neat piece of recordning software. Im getting Virtual Audio Cables this month so I can split audio streams, just getting a decemt codec for dxtory can be a bit difficult. I used Action for a while, but found out that quite often it desynced audio from video. So far it didn't happen with dxtory. But your results may vary.

    Oh, and Fraps may run very slow if you make the video directly to another drive/flash drive. So set it to a pre-folder then move them to your second drive, if you have one.

    BoSchitt, hate to be ''that guy'', but will we be seeing any films from you in the near future?
    Great series by the way, really like the in-depth tutorial.

    I say that you should use windows movie maker to find out if you can stand the editing process. it can get quite boring and is the main reason I don't make videos.

    My computer is too crappy to play, letalone record GMod, so what I'm really watching this series for should come up soon; The in-game tutorials.

    Not sure if this is in fraps to, but Dxtory allows you to adjust audio from the different audio devices, e.g. you can change the mic and game volume separately. But you probably won't need this much with machinima

      you wont really, and fraps doesnt have this setting which is why most ppl(even those who use dxtory) use audacity to record their mic, fraps fuses the audio together so mic and game audio are fused and fraps doesnt really balance the audio properly, ppl just record mic with audacity and sync it up in editing

    DasBo,I want to tell you that MP4 is better thwn WMV,because WMV files to make them have better quality you need to tweak them alot and get big file size,but when you render in MP4,it cames up in better quality and small size

    I don't need this tutorial and I don't really feel like doing Garry's Mod videos. But the important thing is... I still enjoyed the video.

    You should use the H.264 MPEG-4 AVC Codec. It's the standard codec of TH-cam videos and it one of the highest quality codecs which also has very good compression.
    Also very good video Mr. Schitt :D

    10:31 It allso depends on your graphics card. You will benefit from using OpenCL with an AMD card and from CUDA with an Nvidia card.

    I'm planning on making Gmod Videos soon. I do not have the money to get all this stuff but what I can do is keep playing, pausing, playing, pausing, repeat with my recording system, while making a pose every pause and play. The only question is: Where do I go to add the voices of characters?

    Yeah, the 2-pass works great, I usually just do 1080 and a 10 average 15 max mbps. I've tested it a little though and up-scaling to 4k from even 1600x900 with maximum render quality on looks pretty good so I'm considering doing that. And as for h.265, it seems very nice, but tv standards have barley gotten to 1080p yet. A need for a codec with 8k is a while off still.
