Welcome back to Know Your Schitt, where I teach you 5 cool tricks that may come in handy for your next GMod machinima. These tricks range from useful tricks to help your animation process, to clever uses of physics to achieve certain silly effects. Keep in mind, I use Sony Vegas 12 for my editing software, so if you use something else, your tool location will obviously vary. I apologies to those using Adobe Premiere, for I have never used Premiere before.

God, I'm not even an animator and I LOVE these vids! It's so cool to be learning something so pointless to myself, knowing that it could be helping SO many others! xD
I don't play GMod, nor do I create machinimas, but I really do enjoy watching this series because I get to see the kind of stuff that goes on in the making of your hilarious videos.
If anyone is curious, I believe the tool that Bo Schitt was talking about in the first tip is the Sleep Wake tool. It is actually still on the Workshop.
You dont need to use that console command to slow time. Go to utilities in the tab in the top right of the Q menu and select settings.
From here you can change timescale and gravity. You can also change if players spawn with godmode or weapons and more

Just so you are aware, with the time scale thing, if you go into the spawn menu, on the left there is a utilities tab and you can adjust the timescale with a slider there.
nice like the little tip with the ragdoll wireframe really comes in handy
This last example just blow my mind!
You don't need a console command to make slow motion shots.
All you need to do is, go to Utilities tab on the spawn menu, and under "Clean Up" you will see "Settings", there you can change the Physics Timescale and other things like gravity etc.

A much easier way of doing this is pressing the Utilities tab in the top-right corner of the spawn menu. Go under the Admin tab and click Settings. There, you will find a physics timescale slider.
The console commands "bind (key 1) cl_drawhud 1" and "bind (key 2) cl_drawhud 0" are VERY useful for dismissing and revealing your HUD on the fly, allowing you to set up more quickly between shots.

For the slow mo, it's a lot easier just to get the slow mo mod on the workshop. The freeze time mod by the same guy could be useful for dramatic shots as well
you can also change the physics timescale in the utility tab in the q menu
actually this episode really helped me. You see, I got this The Walking dead fan series (I'm working on epi 3 right now) And Season 2 clementine has some weird grab points and this really helped me! Thank Das! :)

Hey boschitt, was watching sone of your previous vlod vids, the ones where you do a mini behind the scenes, and i really liked it. Its cool seeing how you do those types of things and that should be something you consider making a full video. Pls consider. Love your vids, gmod forever!

DasBoSchitt, on 2:40 u can go to some kind of a admin menu when u press Q and do slow mo, change physics and stuff. i dont remember the exact name of that menu but its not a addon, you get this menu with the game.
There is also very cool tricks like bone manipulation in C menu.
For example, you want to make Kleiner turn his head on 360°. You just hold C key, right click on Kleiner and choose "Change bone set" or something like that (sorry, I'm not playing Gmod in English). You can apply this trick to NPCs and (if set) even on players. You can turn their bones however you want, move them etc. You can even CONTROL ragdolls, vehicles etc. You can ignite them, enlarge them and many other things! Hope you found it useful.
I think he already knew that, and there is a thing called "Advanced Bone Manipulator" in the workshop.
Da Random Yup, but there are also diffferent things suchas controlling props, statue them (though there is a statue tool) make them keep upright etc.
If you characters do overlap, You can rotoscope one of them in editing, making him stand in front or the other character stand back, which means you have to mask him out in every single frame, it takes a while, but it's pretty nice.
Make more of them, I'm enjoying them a lot!

for 3:00 you could also go into utilities, admin settings and set the time scale manualy via slider
Since the sleep n wake tool has disappeared there is a new tool called SuperFreeze that has the same functions as Sleep N Wake it's in the workshop

For the slow mo there is a nice tool in the workshop that you can use to slow down time as well. It's simple to use and you can just simply activate it and it'll work. :D
You can do the masking thing in Premiere Pro CS5 by using the track matte effect with using a title to make shapes with the pen tool.
You know, I will never do G-mod, but I like to get an idea of the work involved with making these delights in my life. Much respect!

This helped me a lot with the video I am going to make. My friend has volunteered to help me with the recording as well which makes things a lot easier when I can keep all my helpful stuff on when he focuses on the camera stuff.

Thank you so much. This is I think the only non-Tf2 gmod animations tutorial. I always wanted to make animations with the HL2 characters however and I wasn't sure if these things also work for HL2 characters (and characters from another game I will not mention to avoid hate) 3:33 helped me with these very much. I make videos in the "old" style there is also the new one which has stop motion helper I might try that one too or maybe even move over to SFM completely. But thank's DasBoSchitt for inspiring me to make animations!

I found out things like multiple-source masking on my own, but I really would have liked to learn them from here. I don't think I even knew you could invert the mask, which would have really helped.
You can also use Phys_timescale to have things stuff you throw around move slowly while still being able to move around at normal speed yourself.
Really helpful. I'll try messing with these later today.

There's a Slowmotion Addon for GMod that slows down everything without using cheats, so it should come in handy for those who want to make a slow motion GMod Machinima.

Hey boschitt,can you do another cool tricks video that shows how to make ragdoll's eyes go in different directions and how to make them flail around multiple body parts?
5:10. If you fucked up and accidentally bought Vegas Movie Studio HD premium as apposed to Vegas Pro, use the cookie cutter effect to mask out your recordings instead. It's a slower process, and may or may not look worse than conveniently masking , but at least you just lost $80!
glad your using a similar editing program to mine. this will come in handy for my project once i figure out some equipment issues :D

I think you don't even need to use the 0 and 1 in 'toggle 0 1', as it switches between 0 and 1 by default.
You dont need the console to eddit the timescale :) can be found in the spawn menu in settings(?)
At least somewhere you can scale it to whatever you want

You dont need to use commands to slow down time, just go to utilities, admin, and then adjust the timescale slider. This does not require cheats either.

Just a question about the animation. Is the way you animate the ragdolls the same way Dr. Face animates them? Because that's quite time consuming and complex. Or do you do it a slightly different way? I do like the way you animate and I'd love to replicate it for my own gmods :)

I'm not a Editor or anything But there is a cool trick that I absoulty love
the Trick is that you put a Emitter On a ragdoll then Make the Ragdoll Frozen exept for the Torso Then Pull the Emitter Back From the Ragdoll THEN Put it behind him and After that Press R to Realease and he will launch in that Direction Looking like he got shot or something liek that
the collision point bind literally stopped me from uninstalling gmod, I was getting so annoyed because while posing i'd end up grabbing the wrong hitbox and the ragdoll would be worthless thx das
