***** Actually, if you look up creations by schnauzers12345 in the gmod dupes, you will see that i have posted it! Take 4 oil tanker train cars and rope it to this thing, and see for yourself!
I wasn't interested in this game too much, but I saw this game for only £1.50 in the winter sale. So then I bought it on it's own and the game is perfectly fine. Loads of characters, props and.. other things. I'm not sure why people are saying you need to buy other games for it to work. I think it's just bullshit, trying to make people to buy things you don't even need. Sure you get more items... but I got a full pack of them from the internet for free.
Well the game used to be a full fledged mod, now its standalone. It currently does work on its own. It will have some setbacks, but it'll start yes. calm down bud
***** true but still if you want to play on servers other than sandbox then you need css(aka counter strike source) to play. ***** plus its not piracy, but the problem with doing it that way and not buying the game itself is that the ragdolls don't work, they dont spawn when you click them in the build menu which is why I bought the game
Well, you are like that u think that those games are bought for adding them to gmod. i bought orange box becouse of HL2 and portal and i bought CSS becouse i wanted to play it, not for adding them to gmod. You must take it as a bonus -> you bought some game and you have some models to gmod hurray ! Not that u bought gmod and that : omg i have to buy orange box for additional models. Or is here someone who bought HL2 only becouse of gmod and than dont even played it ?
I made the X-box One VS PS4 in a nutshell a few weeks back while I was working on the Last Light review. With both of those done, I've been working on Idiot Box 12 while also prepping to move to Florida soon
No worries there, I've been a TGS (now Polaris) partner for a year now. I even assist Ross with resources for Civil Protection, and he talked all about the horror stories toward the end of his Machinima, com partner days before he quit. Pretty diabolical stuff going on there.
I really like the way you explained Gmod, becausewhen ever I try to explain Gmod to any of my friends they just don't understand it. Thanks for the tutorial.
"maybe go into the muiltiplayer build servers!" "oh that sounds like a great idea,i can build everything i want and i'll show people my imagination!" *join server* *people flying around spamming balloons and killing me* never again
THANK YOU! Didn't find any way to make vids like you, and you gave me the greatest tips to get started! Been a fan since you started gmod idiot box, and this is much appreciated!
PlayClaw does this compressing job pretty well during the recording and it doesn't really affect the performance. You can adjust the level of compression or switch it off as well.
Now WHY this tutorial is better; is because it's concise, it has a well spoken narrator and visuals. Everyone else is just mouth breathers who cough in the microphone and don't do a retake. Even the ones that use notepad because they're too cheap to buy a microphone suck to high heaven.
WMV is definitely good enough to make simple gameplay videos, but you should buy (or torrent) some better software once you get into it... Good video editing is not simple to learn though so maybe watch some tutorials first.
I hear "This game will not work on it's own." THIS VIDEO IS OUTDATED... No matter the time, I guess I couldn't make a machinima anyway. I have no moooonies. I can't afford Premier, or Vegas. Or a good computer. Then again, I'm not even old enough to have a job yet. But my mom can't afford it either, and if she could, she wouldn't waste it on video editing software.
By "this game will not work on it's own", he means that you do need the Orange Box and Counter-Strike Source to not get any errors, pink & black textures, stuff like that.
I've got two computers, one for gaming, one for editing. I type comments when I am on the editing one. I use Bandicam recorder for the gaming one, it gets the job done. Also, I kinda taught myself some things, like how to pose characters in certain ways and how to hide my character.
I was in a hurry and wanted to thank bo schitt for making an ENTIRE FUCKING SERIES on making gmod machinmas. Rather than a vague 10 minute comedy filled tutorial. I loved kitty's tut, it was fucking hilarious.
Its a mod for HL2 and the source engine, which it comes with but the other games you'll need to finish the game off and use extra props. You dont need the games, all you need is the resource packs which you can find online but if you buy the game you can play that game on its own as well as an extra to gmod.
If the visual difference is unnoticeable, then it's totally ok for me. By the way, compressing video on the fly is extremely helpful for those hard drives that can't handle gigabytes of data being written every second. With PlayClaw I can record a half-hour video into a 3 gygabytes file without visible loss of quality. The lossless quality is not a necessary thing anyway. You cannot do that with Fraps - it makes about 4 gigabytes for every few minutes.
if your troubled about the size of videos for fraps than i suggest using Handbrake to make them a smaller file size. I noticed no difference in quality after converting a Full Size Recording on fraps in Handbrake so the videos still look HD full quality. I have taken 6gb files & put them into Handbrake & got a file size around 400mb with the same quality in both videos & never had to change one setting for it to do that but its free & works like a charm really useful for long videos from fraps
The game will still run and you can play around with it, but you will not have access to many of the props and models that you would need to make good machinimas. I think that is why BoSchitt said it wouldn't work. Also, be prepared to see quite a few "error" models when playing multiplayer when other people are trying to use them. As a side note, playing Trouble in Terrorist Town is very difficult to play without CS:S since you wont have several props or most gun models.
And me, I use Gmod itself to record videos. There's a couple of console commands: Start recording: startmovie %filename% jpg jpeg_quality 90 Stop recording: endmovie As a result, I have a bunch of jpg files instead of video file; it takes less hdd space, and also Vegas preview window doesn't lag.
I'd recommend using a program called "Action!" for recording gameplay of any sort. There's very minimum fps lag, yet it records very high quality videos and has a relatively low file size compared to fraps(~2.5 GB for 20 mins at 720p). To top it all off, it's only $30. If you want to record any kind of gameplay for anything, use Action.
It's funny that I JUST bought a new gaming computer and that I have every single piece of software mentioned in this video. Mentioning I also know how to ambitiously use each one
I think you kept getting request for tutorials because people considered your videos some of the best if not the best videos there has been of this particular type of content. I have loved these videos you've made every bit of the time they have been on this platform. I know life gets in the way but I never minded waiting for your stuff cause I laughed my ass off with my brother for years and we still do. We reference things from all of the videos to this day. Watching your videos made me wanna play gmod and make my own gmod videos for years and I am just now breaking into pc stuff bc my brother gave me his old tower. Its suped up enough to handle gmod very well and just now finally watching your tutorials so I can begin. I realize I may be a decade late to the party but my want to do this thing, has never burned out I'm so fuckin excited I have a pc now. Idk if I can make a gmod video as funny as you or kitty or the other fellas, but I'm gonna try. i don't wanna rip off what you've done, but to hint at who my inspiration was for wanting to make them, no matter how hard it may be to do the animations and all the work that it takes just to make one scene, all the time and frustration I assume is blended into the process. I am a fan and as long as I am living I'll be sitting here, ready to watch whatever you got. And if it's just a done thing and theres nothing going on, or lifes just not gonna give in to let ya do more work, Im happy with what is there and dont regret waiting and watching while I do.
While it may work, you are going to have a limited amount of models and props to screw around with. The Orange Box comes with -Half Life 2 (and EP 1 and EP2) -TF2 -Portal Those are recommended to have with GMod, if only to have the props and models. I would suggest getting the Orange Box if you want to make a good video. :D
If i may, i would suggest using OBS (Open Broadcaster Software). Although the name suggests it is only for use in broadcasting live streams, it is also possible to capture video to the HDD. I suggest it because it highly configurable and doesn't create Gigs of videos when recording, and also, alot of people creat pluggins as it is open source ;)
I have bad experience with both streaming and recording with Open Broadcast, as the quality for it was horrid. I may have had it on some incorrect settings, but I would suggest Fraps over it. The amount of space it takes up, while annoying, is still well worth it and ensures maximum quality.
PSA (If this gets pinned that'd be awesome): • I use Overwolf for recording, as its build in recorder can get a clean 1080p 60FPS output file in MP4. It's also not invasive at all. • To add, I use "VSDC Free Video Editor" - It's free and has a lot of handy features. It isn't Vegas but it allows for multiple clips of video, audio, and images, MANY effects (including MANY required things), and plenty of other features that make it a good bit of freeware to use.
The whole big-raw-recording files thing can be entirely averted by simply not using fraps’ codec. I’ve never used fraps but I assumes it allows you to change the recording codec. Something like h.264 will yield way lower files sizes. I’d suggest using that If recorded size becomes a problem for people.
If you have a modern Nvidia GTX card, try to see if your card supports ShadowPlay. It records my gameplay at full 1080p with 60fps and no frame drops. Also includes features such as action record which allows it to always record the last 5 minutes and when you hit a button it would save the last 5 minutes.
Recently, I started using AVS Video Editor. I used to use Windows Movie Maker for Let's Play videos, which was okay for simple videos like that, but I whole-heartedly agree that it's nowhere near good enough for a project like this. AVS looks like it can do the job though. However, I haven't gotten into doing any major projects with it to be absolutely sure.
You can buy the other games if, you want items from it... For example, I have PORTAL 2 and PORTAL also TF2 (Team Fortress 2) and I get a Chell ragdoll with the PORTAL pack and a companion cube and stuff like that, with TF2 I get Characters like Spy, Scout, Heavy, Demoman and all the other characters, and I get terrain like trees and bushes to rocks and Weapons like the scatter and that, so if you want items from the games, 1. Buy the game 2. Go into Garry's Mod 3. Click a little square button at the bottom right corner of your screen (Unless mine is different) and it should have a controller picture, and then click, scroll down the little list when you find the games you have to source it, then click the box to tick if you want the items or don't tick if you don't want the items... All some help from me, And if any one offers to add me in steam my account is called "=[o.W.n]= Ninjapie260" All my help to you guys. :D
A lot of people say it "requires" the orange box/CS:S due to many addons and maps requiring assets from those games. In the long run, Gmod relies on these assets for many things.
For something FREE use bandicam and Windows Movie Maker. They have updated it then what DasBoShitt showed and I use it. You can split frames, add music, add text, and even sounds. Its almost just as good as Sony Vegas but its free.
@Rayla Kame You don't need The Orange Box or Counter-Strike source to play. All you need is a source game, and thats it. Its a good idea however to get the Orange Box and Counter-strike because how it adds and fixes lots of things in the game. TF2 is the best game because its free. Hope this helped
@DasBoSchitt You should use virtualdub with MJPEG codec, Basically it captures your whole screen or higher resolutions from 1080k as 1k to 2k 4k 6k 8k whatever as long as your hdd and pc can handle it. 1 Hour filesize is less than 1gb and the quality of the picture is even better than fraps, setting it up takes about 10 seconds for each individual recording.
I would not recommend Fraps at all, it cuts your FPS in half which is obviously a problem unless your getting 120+ frames in every game made. From what I used, these are the most known and used. Bandicam is like Fraps but your FPS will lose around just around ten if you set it to high priority and file size to maybe around a tenth smaller file sizes. If your clip is 34 seconds its like 200MB-500MB of space, still a lot but better than 3GB. Then there's Dxtory which is far much better than Bandicam in a lot of ways but requires you to have a fast hard drive. If your going to use it you'll need a SSD hard drive to make sure the video is smooth no matter what, 7200rpm hard drive just won't cut it.
I have no idea what your talking about, I've been using fraps for three years now and I haven't had one of these said problems, and yes, I'm using a 7200 rpm hard drive and I have for a while now and every game I've recorded gives me a solid 60, and the reason why it cuts it in half is because that's a must used setting, if your recording something at 160 fps then that's outright absurd. Especially if your going to edit a lot of it in Sony Vegas after.

NitroGaming IanStarGem that you need CS:S and the Orange Box. Source: I have neither of them and still play the game. Any source game is sufficient.

I like how he had the "Dust: An Elysian Tail" theme song in the background.
I was so happy you mentioned Windows Movie Maker, all my friends made fun of me for using it. Then you immediately discredited it afterwards lol.
I knew I heard the Dust soundtrack in the background! Great game.
Ahhh, love the music so much. Also loved the game a lot
this was in my recommended. Haven't seen this in so long!
And me, I use Gmod itself to record videos. There's a couple of console commands:
Start recording:
startmovie %filename% jpg jpeg_quality 90
Stop recording:
endmovie
As a result, I have a bunch of jpg files instead of video file; it takes less hdd space, and also Vegas preview window doesn't lag.
This is a very professional tutorial. Useful, too.

WOW, Dust music! Awesome! I was just listening and I was like OH SHIT THATS DUST O_O had to comment on that awesome taste in games and music!
A lot of people say it "requires" the orange box/CS:S due to many addons and maps requiring assets from those games. In the long run, Gmod relies on these assets for many things.
haha that sounds more like a good Q&A video series
For something FREE use bandicam and Windows Movie Maker. They have updated it then what DasBoShitt showed and I use it. You can split frames, add music, add text, and even sounds. Its almost just as good as Sony Vegas but its free.
I totally lost it when the PC started screaming and popped.
Nice choice of music there Bo.
You don't very much need Orange Box, but you are reccomended to have CSS. I run Garrys Mod fine with only Portal 1 and 2, and also LFD2
Now I know “Schitt”, da thank you, das!
If your going to use it you'll need a SSD hard drive to make sure the video is smooth no matter what, 7200rpm hard drive just won't cut it.
bandicam is worse
I have no idea what your talking about, I've been using fraps for three years now and I haven't had one of these said problems, and yes, I'm using a 7200 rpm hard drive and I have for a while now and every game I've recorded gives me a solid 60, and the reason why it cuts it in half is because that's a must used setting, if your recording something at 160 fps then that's outright absurd. Especially if your going to edit a lot of it in Sony Vegas after.
gmod does work without orange box and CS:S and it works pretty well but you do run into problems when most things require CS:S
