Today we are going to give you some tourist advice and traveler advice on visiting one of the most beautiful national parks in the United States. The Grand Tetons National Park, with incredible wildlife including bison and elk and incredible vistas as well you can see so much when you are here. Thank you. I've seen so many bison vs tourist videos i put it in a lot of videos from the area.
Not that some people pay attention. The Rangers warn people till they are blue in the face. That all goes out of the head when they want that selfie with that buffalo.

My family lives near there and unfortunately I've always just taken the mountains and animals for granted. Maybe someday I should go and play tourist.
Funny you mention this, but in reality, familiarity breeds contempt. I’ve traveled the world and seen many interesting places. Going back home the sites there are just not so interesting.
I can't reemphasize Mark's point about giving the animals a wide berth. Last time I was out there, my grandfather mentioned about some idiot photographer in Yellowstone that was about 30' from a bison. Guess who ended up getting gored! A hard lesson learned for that chap. I started my career with the Dept. of Natural resources and I can't tell you how many times people messed with animals thinking they were like the cuddly things they see on Disney, they too ended up paying the price. So not only can you get a rough lesson from the animal, the Park Service Rangers will give you a hefty monetary reminder as well.
Indeed avoid stupidity with the animals.
I’m from Australia and visited in Oct 2 years ago. I had a private guide for 2 days cos I didnt want to drive. Such a Gorgeous place. Amazing hiking. Had a great time and got the best photos! My guide and I got there really early both days and I saw all the animals I wanted. Bears on berries, moose, bison, etc. was awesome! :)

I was there last year with my wife. She broke her leg so badly that now she has a metal plate and 7 screws few inched above her ankle. And it happens at the end of our first day there. It took her about 3.5 months before she was able to go back to work.....but, she wants to go back there again.....and we will...
I went to the Grand Tetons and Yellowstone National Parks last summer. It was amazing. I agree with all your tips. But, particularly with the wear layers. It was June and it got cold every night. We’d been there before and I knew to bring something heavier. And let me tell you, it would have less than fun to walk around later in the day if not for the heavy layers. Great tips, great video.
Yeah we would wrap up the boys in the AM but always have t shirt at the bottom as by the afternoon it was... we're hot!!! So boom. Down to t-shirts. Liam was unzipping his safari pants legs to make them shorts in the afternoons
I've visited that part of the country many times but Jackson Hole only twice. Yes. Tons to do. Camping, hiking, rafting on the Snake River, fly fishing, rented mountain bikes in Jackson. Even took rock climbing and rappelling lessons.

So glad to see you promoting the USA for travel! Many children never see their own amazing country and end up thousands of miles away in other countries never realizing our treasure RIGHT HERE! Our National Parks are spectacular and each state has its own unique history! Pray for the forest fires PLEASE!
Well said! I’ve taken my kids to see the Tetons, Yellowstone, Grand Canyon and so one and I remember those times with them there.
This year(I was there beginning of September) at Grand Teton and Yellowstone was great because they did not have tour buses coming through. It appears to be warmer there than in September-there was snow in September(it was below zero most mornings). Bring an ice scrapper you may need it early morning. I spent one night in Yellowstone-the best sleep I had in years-no TV no Wi-Fi no distractions-just an open window and a comfortable bed!
Yes. I made sure to pack the scraper as we had some snow and frosty windshields
Be prepared for altitude sickness. I get it every time. Can barely eat. Good for weight loss. If you drive there, you get acclimated to the altitude difference. When you step off of a plane, you can get really sick really fast. Speaking from experience.
I've been watching your videos for the past few years now and I was so excited to see that you visited the Grand Tetons! I went on a solo road trip to the Grand Tetons last year when I was 18 from Minnesota and this was my favorite destination. From someone who has been there, I must say you did a great job, as always, to cover the dos and don'ts of visiting the Grand Tetons! Especially to wear layers because oh my gosh I didn't come prepared and it got almost to 40 degrees when during the day it was 80+
Very informative!! Great tips and points throughout the whole video!! Seriously a lot of stuff you wouldn't think about and forgetting even just a couple items could really slow your vacation down.
Thanks for the video Mark. We took the Wyoming, Idaho road trip two weeks ago. It was amazing. All your tips are very valid.
Another heads up is check for road closures due to fire. We were there a few years ago and checked to find that the road we were going to take in two days - the one between Yellowstone and Grand Teton was closed and the detour was very long. A miracle happened (for us) when it opened just 24 hours before we were going to use it. Here in the east, we don't hear about all of the fires in the west. My daughter in CO often is affected. She was walking the dog while it was 'raining ash' in Ft Collins a few days ago. And let's all start taking care of the environment...

Also, be careful driving in the dark. Obey the speed limit or go a little slower. I almost ran into a herd of elk crossing the Rockefeller parkway because the headlights from oncoming traffic made them impossible to see. Watch out for any little flicker of movement in the corner of your eye. It could be an animal or animals!
Horseback riding is fantastic in the Tetons. Did a guided fishing trip on horseback a couple of years ago.

Interstate 80 is a bit south at Rock springs. Turn of early and go north until you're north of Jackson. Great view going down into the valley.
I'd dtotally love to go there. The scenery looks fantastic.
Staying on the trail is an excellent point.
Folks don't think about the sensitive vegetation that grown in the higher altitudes.
Hikers veering off the trail to look at something like an animal, waterfall etc no knowing they are trampling over sensitive vegetation.
What about like going off the trail to walk in a creek to fish

When I was here www.nps.gov/tapr/index.htm Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve earlier this summer, they recommended at least 100 yards distance from any bison you encountered when you were out walking. Beautiful place to visit in Kansas. The old barn and house are interesting, too.

Hey Mark, when are you going to do an update on your top 10 national parks to visit? Or they haven't changed from your last video?
Another reason not to sleep in is because most of the best views are facing west, and usually, the angle of the sun facing that way is better in the morning to mid-day rather than later on.
We just got back from Wyoming a couple of weeks ago and had a blast! Definitely recommend a horse back riding tour!
We left our ice chest in back of the truck and a raccoon got in to it and ate all of our food 🤣 So yes, lock up your coolers!
Grand Tetons is the most beautiful 🥰 More impressive than Yellowstone.
Both are high on my bucketlist.

Good tips. My family has the advantage of Home Schooling. Thus, we do NOT have to put up with the public school PC nonsense, AND we came to GTNP off season (early October). It was not crowded, great hikes (eg, to Phelps Lake), the main Visitor Center (Craig Thomas) was open. Truly, God’s country!

Be aware, phone booths 📞 and 911 ☎️ places are in the NPS parks, Colter Bay Village areas. Rest rooms too. 🚽
@@DavidLLambertmobile I wouldn't expect good mobile internet access in a huge US national park. What I ment is that when you travel through Germany on the Autobahn or by train and you travel through or near small towns and villages you'd expect to have a signal. Last year I travelled across Poland and the reception was much better there.

Unfortunately not all animals know the distance rules. I had an exciting experience with a bison bull in Yellowstone some years ago. We were in the parking lot at the Norris Geyser Basin when a ranger drove into the lot and shouted to everyone to "look out, bison passing through" and right he was as a bull and a cow came out from the trees right in front of us. I therefore moved in between our car and the one parked next to me, but the bull decided to follow al8ng. When I got through the passage, I moved aside and fortunately the bull continued his way and disappeared between the trees on the other side of the parking lot. You really realize how big such a bull is when he is tree feet away from you and all there is between you and him is thin air. 😀

im planning on going in may and going to stay in idaho. all i be doing is taking pics with my nice camera and lots of hiking. yea i would like a drone for nice pics from the air but since banned in parks i think they are pointless.

Definitely worth it. Go to Jenny lake. It is very beautiful. I did it two weeks ago. If you don't have time, You can drive the Jenny Lake loop and also visit the famous barns in one day. Make sure to stop at Jackson,WY. It's very cool western city.

Hello there from Canada? Just want to ask, what kind of accommodation did you and your family use while in Grand Teton? RV?
An RV is great, but remember, you will be in some serious mountain terrain. Be sure to reserve a spot to camp in your RV. There are hotels in surrounding towns too. It’s so beautiful.
I have a favorite motel in Jackson, which is only 4 miles from Grand Teton National Park.
@@janiceschroeder9908 the Tetons are beautiful wherever you stay. Jackson is great but to us Wyoming locals it’s too crowded 😂. I’m always happy when people come to enjoy this beautiful state. Lander is a great place too. I’m prejudiced because I live here in Lander. I hope you visit again when Covid is better :)
Be sure to reserve a spot if you have an RV they quite often full up.
@@WyoSavage1976 this is true of surrounding states as well. NEVER assume a camping spot or RV spot. Hell, on well traveled tourist roads, don’t assume a parking spot. As an aside, a ranger tried to kick me off my rough spot in a place CLEARLY marked for 15 day camping when I’d only been there for 13 days. The excuse? I couldn’t possibly have driven my truck up a “rock wall” to get there, so I must be parked illegally. I offered to show him my ascent up this “rock wall” in my rented Toyota 4x4 and repeatedly had to state I (a 48 year old, very slight, woman) was INDEED camping alone. I drove up the (well marked as an off highway road) *rock wall* and backed down it to let him know I’d be fine, and stayed my 15 days.
In Québec Teton is slang for breasts so Grand Tetons in French Canadian sounds like big boobs. I laughed more than I should have!

Top thing to DO when at grand Teton: Ignore all the touristy crap, photo ops and civilization. If you want to go to a national park and the Lodging is important to you... or where you can take pictures....please don't go. Make space for the people who actually enjoy this.
Hello yes you you hey long land what is a good idea hook your camera to a tripod or at least use a monopod. A fast opening monopod will be a lifesaver with a long lens and your shaking hands some vendor sell a telephoto lens or your camera lens. That will also save you thinking you need to get close 2A independent Buffalo with horns

We will. We were going to visit on this trip but our car brokedown so we lost a bunch of days waiting for parts.

Don't forget to fill up your gas tank before you head out in the morning. Also when you get in some parts of Yellowstone download Maps.me. GPS will work without a cell signal Waze and Google maps will give you a dot but no map. Maps.me has already downloaded the map so you will see exactly where you are. You can even use Maps.me when you hike to know approximately where you are. Always bring water with you just incase something unexpected happens. Pronghorn or the American antelope is fast, I mean really fast like 55 mph fast. Do not get between a male and female during mating season. Also be able to tell the difference between black bear and grizzly bears. Grizzly bears can be very aggressive even if you are in a car.

Would add another "don't" in the wildlife category. Don't forget to pick up bear spray from a local outfitter if you plan to do any hiking well beyond roadways. While rare, bear encounters are very real in Tetons and Yellowstone. Better to have and not need than need and not have.
Did you see that guy that ran into a cougar and cubs in Idaho? Crazy. I don’t usually hike without bear spray, but I never considered cougars. They’re so shy. She was pissed because she felt threatened. Bet that guy carries spray from now on 😂

I hear tourists debating all the time wether they should take their jackets, I tell them always take a jacket, the weather can change at the drop of a hat.
DONTS; Do not leave trash, food items, beer, etc. Wildlife smell or are attracted to it. Do not 🚫 speed or drive, ride bikes 🚵🏽♂️ reckless. Do not wear dark clothes, no 🔦 in low light, late at night. Drivers, campers, rangers can not see you. Plan & prepare. Do not think anything, everything is open or it's a theme park 🎡🎠🎢. Drink water, stay hydrated. Colter Bay Village has free water holes you can access. Do not block 🚧 or hold up traffic, cars on roads, hwy 89. Its unsafe. See GTLC.com or NPS.gov . Be bear aware 🐻. Say hi to 399 & her 4 cubs!
