@LadyGaGa is hot If we buy their game they do owe us. They owe us a good experience. If I pay $60 for a game I expect that game to be supported and updated with new content every so often, even if its not much.
If its a $40 game I don't expect content updates but I do expect bug fixes and a complete experience with no micro transactions.
If its a $20 game I expect it to be a complete experience that could get updates in the form of paid dlc.
If its a $10 game I expect it to be a base game with a few dlc to tie it together.
If its free I expect it to be playable free but paid content to either greatly expand the story. (Destiny 2) Be cosmetic only (Paladins) and be constantly updated so that I have a reason to play and possibly buy the new content.
The game industry does owe us because we are the ones who keep them alive. They keep us happy we keep them paid. EG Final fantasy 15 gave away ALL the DLC for free so I bought 4 other Final fantasy games. (10 remastered, 12 Remastered, FF7 original and FF8)
Any company that has that business model will always have my business because it allows me to buy more of their products without thinking, Oh hey what if a dlc comes out for this game. Do I get another one of their games or the dlc?

I think what most people are not seeing, what developers should also learn from, is that people are happily buying DLCs if you actually deliver an appropriate addition to the game, for an appropriate price, in stead of just some overpriced micro transactions or small add-ons, not sayin' that any of these are bad, because they can be awesome if the price-content ratio is actually balanced (see Borderlands2 for a good example IMO).

Lootboxes in Overwatch are a good example, you get them while you level up for free, but you can also buy them if you want more, faster. And micro transactions can be justified aswell, if a studio has to sustain themselfes longer from less games, IF they are appropriate to the game and don't give benefits you otherwise wouldn't obtain, they should always be just a substitute if you don't have or aren't willing to spend the time on certain things.

@@everardosalvador-martinez49 TLDR; I agree with you that a game shouldn't take 2 or 3+ years to release after the trailer goes live, I'm saying that the time frame in which the trailer goes live vs. the game actually releasing is very important and that shorter isn't necessarily better and developers need to take into consideration time frames.
Now that that's out of the way for a full explanation-
Yeah I agree, but again the time window is very important. Let's take Fallout 4 for example, Bethesda released their trailer for Fallout 4 in June of 2015 and it was released officially in November that same year. It did really well in sales, selling 1.2 million copies in 24 hours on Steam. We can both agree that that's a lot. Now look at Rockstars Red Dead Redemption 2, the trailer was released in October of 2016 and was released 2 years later in October 2018 and sold 17 million copies. The time window was greater then Fallout's and arguably Fallout (including all Fallout games + the fanbase) is bigger then RDR. I'm not taking into account that Fallout 4 wasn't the best game and that RDR2 is better, I'm just saying that Fallout had a shorter time frame to generate hype, market and finish/polish the game by their initial release date compared to RDR2. BUT that isn't to say that longer wait time is better, they both took very drastic directions and developers need to take into consideration said time-frame.

Some may argue that's the "extra experience" but no, that's just bullshit. All they did is save the resources of making a sequel but cash in more on an old title.

From 2009 to this present day (2019) the developers have made the game better by creating new updates every year. From the base game they added : new items, blocks, biomes, mobs, commands, and much more, all for free! Even at this very moment, they are working on the "village and pillage update" which adds new game mechanics with villagers. So yes, I do think I know what an update is. Through investing some interest into what goes on behind the making of a game (esp. AAA, and mostly thank's to my subscription to your channel). I've learned that it's an ugly, cut-throat, and toxic industry to be employed in.
It's so nice to see the spirit of video games reflected in these companies. Although the writing in games rivals most films coming out of Hollywood, sometimes we forget that these games are supposed to be fun. This kind of attitude of appreciation to supporter's, all the way to beautiful acts of charity like the young man dying of cancer is what it takes to keep "fun" the central point behind a project. These are the people who wanted to be programmer's, and haven't been jaded by the experience.
They are living their dream, and obviously gracious. Therefore, they spread happiness, which is the very soul of this industry's divine purpose. Well, played, and terrific vid.

The simplicity is awesome but... there have been some really cool game extensions in the form of DLCs that would never have happened unless they were DLC. Fallout: New Vegas comes to mind; so does The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim; and new cars added to racing games; etc.
There's a lot we've gained because paid DLC exists. It lets developers (especially smaller ones who don't sell millions of copies - i.e. most studios) spend more time on a project and make it better.

Yeah, but that was after they realised that Minecraft wasn't selling very well anymore. By the time Microsoft bought Minecraft, it was no longer "the game" to have. So, everyone who enjoys the game still plays it, but that's not making money. And everyone who had Minecraft because it was trendy wasn't playing it, and people stopped buying it.
Minecraft isn't dead, but the sales potential is.
So, what's the point in selling a game if no-one will buy it? The only way Minecraft can get sales is if it becomes trendy again. So, in a desperate act to get news articles about Minecraft, Microsoft gave copies of the game away. It did increase sales slightly, but Minecraft stopped being trendy before Microsoft bought it.

Look at Larian Studios, they took their time & even delayed DOS:2 a bit to have everything voice-acted (which wasn't intended at first). Boom, they delivered the BEST RPG ever (my opinion ofcourse). Everything in that game was done with such passion, it made me tear up a few times through-out my first play-through. I just couldn't believe I was actually playing such a masterpiece. And get this, the only "dlc" is a singular extra companion for not even a dollar and a 15 dollar "dlc" which basically is an artbook, in-depth lore book, a map and soundtrack. Why? Sea of Thieves. While an utter disappointment after a dozen or so hours at launch, it is free with Game Pass, there are NO microtransactions (yet. Later, will be cosmetic) every single update (new ship(s), weekly, monthly, seasonal, expansion) is absolutely free and always will be. PLUS, they have recoded (reduced "overlapping"/"unnecessary" code) the game to reduce the total size by, at least, half. It requires a full reinstall (Feb 6th) but gives you, basically, free additional storage on your console. I preordered this before it was announced it was going on GP, and I was PISSED when it came out and was a mere 30% of an actual game...but it is so freaking good ajd immersive now, it's crazy.
