Very nostalgic. I recall like half of those- mainly because I wasn't a PC gamer. MW2 back in the day was addictive since it was the first time I got to play online in 2010. Those start screens were epic on consoles too. GTA4 was the one I played the most back then, and there was always that time where I would try to see how long I could hold off the cops. Good times, good times.

    • @Xylarxcode
      @Xylarxcode ปีที่แล้ว +4

I once spent an entire summer in the arcade. Well, when I wasn't at my summer job. Basically those two months consisted of only 3 phases for me. Work, sleep or arcade hall. One of the best summers of my teenage years. My friends went on vacations or tried to score dates and then there was me renting out gocarts, beach chairs and selling towels and living in the arcade hall when I didn't have to be at work. Playing games like Time CrisisI and II, Soul Calibur II, Mortal Kombat III, Crisis Zone and even some more classic games like Wonder Boy and Puzzle Bobble.
Arcades are long gone now (at least where I live), but those memories will stay with me all my life. Real nostalgia trip, that is.

Never mind flash games, we had Quake 3 and Runescape installed on hidden folders in my school. When I was in my web design classes the teacher would just knowingly let us play Quake when he had no work for us.
Also worth mentioning that Homestar Runner is still making videos, usually like 2-5 a year. There's probably going to be one soon because they always do a Halloween episode.

We had a small secluded room in the library where we played Brutal Doom. Most teachers usually turned a blind eye as long as we were quiet and didn't get the juniors involved. It took one kid to blab his mouth and spread it. Next thing we know, one of the stricter librarians found a crowd of Year 8s yelling and massacring each other out in the open, and policies on computer use during breaks was tightened.
Naturally, we flipped the school the bird by playing Cards Against Humanity out in the open and the Year 9's learned some interesting new phrases.

I’m not sure if this was a thing In other countries, but in Brazil we had a place called Lan Houses, where dozens of PCs were connected on lan and you could play any game (that was installed on those pc). We played Counter Strike, Battlefield 1942, Unreal Tournament, etc, against random people that were in that same place as you (because it was on lan).
The smell of cheetos and hair grease plus 2L of coke while you play the corujão (overnight) in the lan houses were priceless. You had to pay per hour though…..
Computer were always expensive in Brazil so we could not afford to buy one for gaming, so we used to go on these Lan Houses. Playing online with early days DSLs or even with dial up internet was terrible, so playing on Lan was a HUGE thing in Brazil in the early 2000s

Yes absolutely playing MW2 in collage with all your friends over Xbox Live and even hooking back up with your old high school friends you hadn't seen since graduation in the game. MW1 was where my initial fascination with online multiplayer gaming started(Halo was Lan parties, screen watching and all) but it was MW2 where it became an obsession. I'll never enjoy another multiplayer game as much as I did that one ever again. The open chat lobbies were something to witness as well lol. I was 19 I believe when it launched, maybe 20, and nothing but Ocarina of Time b4 it(playing Mario 64 the first time in Blockbuster was also close) matched the awe that game gave me. It was like a drug and kids today that grew up with online multiplayer games will never know what it's like just like they'll never know what it's like to play a 3d game for the first time after only having SNES and Genesis and Arcade games their entire lives. True VR is close to that 3d for the first time feeling though and when I let me kids play my Quest 2 the day I got it the wonder on their faces took me back. The new MW2 is nothing like the og and couldn't hold my attention past a few games so I'll stick to Destiny 2 for the foreseeable future like it has the past 8 years.

This is a great video. I love the music sections in the intros.
Like halo still to this day I still will let it sit for a minute. Civ 6 also has an iconic intro music. Those games and start up are a chefs kiss.
Or firing up NCAA football and hearing EA Sports it's in the game

spore is a huge nostalgia for me, such a brilliant game for its time, and especially for 8 year old me i was so into it. Till this day ive never heard of another game like spore, and i really feel like there has to be either spore 2 or some brand new game going into the evolutionary journey.

I used to watch the opening sequence of the first Gran Turismo game on PS1 quite regularly before diving into the game. Used to love that fmv. 1998; not quite the 2000's.
Incidentally, 1998 is still my favourite year in gaming.

For SEA, we had Ragnarok Online, an MMORPG. It was big back then, started around 2002-2003 (I was in 1st year high school, so can't remember exactly). They even had concerts, world championships, and an anime that I wanted to forget. It was prepaid (so targeted to not-so-rich countries), unlike World of Warcraft or Guild Wars, which has a huge upfront fee for the CD keys.

Getting games that just worked, no day one patch, or companies nickle and diming you for more content like DLC. Those same games still work to this day and are great. Whereas some games released not to long ago don't work at all because they were online based etc.

I'm incredibly nostalgic for Xbox 360 voice chat. It's hard to explain why I so dearly miss a squeaking 9-year-old proclaiming he had had relations with my mother but what I wouldn't give to relive those days. Everything was unmoderated, everyone said horrible stuff to each other but it was fun & people had so much freedom.

WIth regard to #3's World of Warcraft entry, you also had the constant, constant raiding that the Alliance was doing at the Crossroads. Almost daily the World Notification / Zone Notification automated chat channel would, for many hours at a time, spit out, "The Crossroads is under attack"
I was present during many of the "Barrens Chat" incidents on the Dragonblight server, and a metric F-ton of those moments also had GM's engaged in the chats. Up until the Pandaria expansion, the adults played the Horde and the children played Alliance. After that you could REALLY see the change in player base with all the damn 'hopping all over the place to go anywhere' children appearing on the Horde.

My favorite game from back then was “Quake 3 team arena”. The games on this list were pretty great too, but nothing hooked me like Q3 did. I even had the second fastest time in the world on one of the longest/hardest defrag maps ever created.
    Those were the days.
