Marketing executive: “So we’re putting the game out for $60, and once they buy it they are free to play it.” CEO: “Woah, Woah slow your role there. Where’s the part where we split the game up into multiple sections and charge for each, let players buy guns that are almost completely necessary to win the game and have no other way of getting it, and make the in game currency rarer than diamonds and take longer to get than making real money and they end up just buying in game currency”.
Yup, was never an issue until charging us more was even an option... SUDDENLY the most explosive industry and apparently aren't making enough money.... Sounds Iike the same move HOLLYWOOD pulls when the most successful movies of all time "lose money" on paper... like LOTR apparently.
Exactly. By buying these pay to win crates, these people have already voted with their wallet. They are telling the companies that they are ok with paying to win. Honestly these people have no right to complain about the pay to win culture that we have today. They are propagating the problem.
DLC is completely fine so long as it comes out a decent time after a game is released, Isn't just parts of the game removed to be sold separately, Aren't required to be purchased to continue playing and Add enough to the game to be worth buying/selling for instance dark souls dlc was a damn good way to make dlc, Each one added massive amounts of items and enemies to the game and extended the lore quite a bit as well as offered quite a challenge, A bad example would be fortnite's save the world as it's "dlc" adds literally nothing just gives you a bunch of things that are essentially useless and yet each one costs quite a bit totalling 200$ us (or for me 300$ Canadian), Epic even had the balls to hide one "dlc" from the store until all others have been purchased (or just the one before it has been which is the most expensive) so you actually have to buy each one just to "unlock" the ability to spend one hundred more dollars just for yet again more useless items and one rare gun. It may be "early access" (it's not they just don't want to keep the promise that it would be free at launch) but that is still unacceptable.
People complaining about EA Battlefront like no tomorrow, but EA Sports games don't get shit. The literally release same game every year (no, new shadow mechanics or switched controls doesn't mean a new game) and those horrible dream team cards..
"EA Sports games don't get shit" EA, as a whole, is a corrupt garbage fire. ...but you probably don't hear about EA Sports, in particular, because sports games are for plebs. Like, I care in principle, but you'll never hear me whinge about what's happening in a sports title because I don't play that shit.
Rectangular Businessman At this rate, I wouldn’t be surprised if EA just gives up on making regular video games and just goes all in on mobile and sports games.
That's because (and I hate using this term) actual gamers (or people who play games a lot in their lives) don't usually play sports games and so of course it flies under the radar and no one really cares. The only people who buy sports games are the people who casually play games for maybe 3 hours a week or less and it'll be the only game they buy all year around and so of course they pay for the horrible micro transactions and they don't know any better.
At least we aren't forced to buy the sound in a separate DLC or HD quality in loot boxes...... To make a video at least a curtain length to make it profitable is like charging a set amount for a video game. Seems pretty fair
@@exaggeratedswagger7485 Yeah, i'm pretty sure too... However (since you both seem to need some context here i order to understand how a joke works........ Unbelievable!) one of the ways to make a joke is by offending or calling someone or something stupid formed as a joke. Potato-brain figured Falcons analysis of this topic was ironic as he had a target time just above what youtube require for a curtain "income level" to kick in. As such potato-brain decided to make a joke about something that in no way correlates with the video topic (it was never said games should be free. Work is = pay, that's just how the world works) and therefore only stand to neglect Falcons analysis. When called out on it he used the respons all kids use these days and therefore also have been featured in several adult comic (south park actually did a 3 episodes long joke about it where mr. hankys main defense is "is was just a fucking joke") which only serves to furter validate my first comment
Smash Bros players like me look forward to DLC. The DLC is literally just treated as a way to put new characters in the game post-release. The DLC itself doesn't even cost that much.
It costs more in Canada so it’s not really worth it to me. Only if I really like and want a dlc character I’ll buy it. I didn’t buy any Smash DLC, nothing available that I want.
Back then, the original game was a burger and the expansions were the fries and drink. Now original game is just a bun and all the pieces are DLCs and exclusives.
Its become the norm to not only sell a game, but to have a Deluxe and Ultimate edition right out the door as well. Rather than buy a full game for $60, now you need to spend 80-120 for the full package deal. It sucks, and discourages me from buying the games I want until the prices drop.
Honestly I'd be ok with that if they did away with microtransactions. Even if the "$60 isn't enough these days" argument is true, one of those cash grabs is more than enough. But no, they always do both. They don't just want money, they want ALL the money.
I'm fine with the special editions and collector editions they are an up front cost and you know what you get(something sports games give you card packs aka loot boxes) and collector editions usually give you a cool steel case or statue something outside the game for collectors.
The full game is the $60 one moron, no one is twisting your arm forcing you to buy the Ultimate Edition. All the extra stuff is just that, EXTRA. I've bought every Ultimate Edition of Forza since FM5, by choice, because I enjoy the games that much and want to SUPPORT the dev's for it
DLCs are okay, unless it was an obvious cut content from the base game. But if it is an expansion of an already 100 hour game e.g witcher 3 then those kind of company deserve our money. But then again dlcs are made when they have no time to include it in an already finished base game or if including it will make the game expensive then having a season pass or deluxe edition is acceptable. But if a game includes lootboxes and microtransaction, that's where you completely ditch the game.
Me too, if the game is multiplayer only it's a no-go for me. I like to enjoy my games in peace and quiet, I don't need some 12 year old to tell me he did my mom every 5 minutes.
@@j.krollin1307 tell me about it, my young lad loved that crap he had 2 or 3 arena's (or whatever the bases were called) and so many figures they filled two backpacks and a plastic shopping bag. Naturally after around 12 months he had moved onto something else......
Ikr and I hate how so many people suck up to fifa every year by buying the new games and spending boat loads of money on packs, even though the game already costs £60 retail
As someone is usually against government intervention, I even want these microtransactions banned. 8 years ago microtransactions weren't so bad, but now this is just unacceptable.
Lmao the government? Unlike you apparently I prefer a government that allows business how they want to and if ppl dislike their business style then they'll go out of business
Poptart this issue has already been addressed. Even if most of us were to boycott these games, the "whales" provide enough money to keep them afloat. Also some kids have stolen their parent's debit card and spent its entire contents on microtransactions. What makes this all worse is that they try and hide it, so most parents are unaware of the fact these microtransactions are there to begin with until they find out the hard way. By banned I meant restricted to 21 and up. Banned just has more flare. DLCs that add substainal content would be allowed without altering the ratings, although it would have to be declared and put on the case before release. If done as an afterthought they'd have to sell it via their website, etc.
It’s consumers fault that these companies are using micro transactions in these ways. If we want this to change then we need enough people to stop buying them. However, there is something to be said about the gambling aspect of loot boxes and I would agree that it needs follow the laws for gambling in your country. (I.e. age requirement of 21+)
I can't image how devs must feel, putting their heart and soul into making a great game and some dbag from upper floor forces them to make currencies and loot boxes. Whatever game that uses, gems, gold, orbs or something is a red flag to steer clear.
EA: "Locking the true ending behind a paywall? why the fuck didn't we think of that" "Loot boxes in single player games? fuck if we knew that we would have begged for the rights of spiderman too. imagine all the cash we could get from selling the costumes as lootboxes. single player games aren't a dead market after all" "Paid mods made by our communities? that's like doing nothing and getting all the money? get the spreadsheet"! "2019 is going to be the year for gamers" *employees laugh* "hows battlefield doing?" "not so good boss. turns out gamers don't like being called uneducated" "fire someone. retract some statements. push back the release date. they'll come around eventually"
Loot boxes should be outright banned. Period. They'd be cool using in-game currency, but paying real money for them is ludicrous. Too tempting for game companies to nickel-and-dime players to death.
Borderlands 2 and presequal do loot boxes right with shift codes go on twtitter or face book find the codes get the keys use keys to open special items
Although I wish these paid loot boxes cease to exist, I know that companies will not remove them. I can only hope that loot box systems are adjusted. 1) No loot boxes in single-player games or story-driven games. 2) Same loot boxes can be purchased using in-game currency. 3) In-game currency does not take an unrealistic amount of time to match a few bucks worth of currency. 4) No differences between the boxes purchased with in-game currency and $. 5) The game encourages players to earn in-game currency and use them to make purchases. $ should only be a secondary option for those that don't have time to play but still want to enjoy. (Maybe limit the amount of $ that can be purchased per day) But Overall, I would support loot boxes to be banned. Make extra contents, not cheap ass cash grab. (Also don't take away original contents from the final build and make them paid DLC)
Why? I don't know why its so awful to players to see,I hate games that give advantage behind loot boxes or require you to pay to advance the game but other than that I think its fine, its a luck based gamble that no ones forcing you to spend money on but if you do enjoy the game enough to try and get a cool cosmetic i think that's cool
Buy a real ending? If I was the CEO of capcom and someone pitched that to me, I would have fired them on the spot. Hands down. 1: people are going to be beyond pissed over that, and you'll get ONE guy that'll actually buy it. 2: Then he is going to share it with everyone over youtube/facebook who might actually care how the damn thing ended. How did this not get shot down and laughed at. I swear those deluded bastards probably gave him a bonus and told him how genius he is because he was the 1st one to actually think of something so stupid. The fucker should have been fired out-right. no warning, just fired.
NBA2K was for me the pinnacle of greed as of late; asking gamers to talk with governments so game cards/loot boxes would not be declared illegal. Also let's not forget that in order to have any fun at all with NBA2K19 you need to spend at least an additional $60 to get enough skill points to be any decent at all. The greed of gaming companies today is just insane. And the scary thing is, they don't care.
Remember back in the day when you had a sense of achievement after unlocking something. Like a secret Tekken character. Or a new character outfit. I miss those days
I know right?! Like Goldeneye 64, you had to work your butt off to unlock the cheats in that game. I don't know why players who prefer to earn their stuff by playing the actual game are punished.
Same -_- . I remember finally being able to feed the Dragons 100 times in Chrono Cross. My fingers were so damn blistered and sore I could barely grip the controller, but I fucking did it n_n .
Johannes Larsson yeah like it’s crazy for the people who are new it’s a game that they don’t wanna play because all it is a grind that doesn’t help anything and the ones that have played the game for a while have glitched it to the ground so a 3,000,000 dollar car is not bad for a old player but I new player can’t even think about it
Lol that was a joke, but still, DLC is supposed to be "downloadable content" which is supposed to be "DOWNLOADABLE" for free, like GTA 5 online did, but nah, they just want more money when they get billions...
Paid dlc should exist but not like what is on the list (exept evolve where it offered no REAL advantage because of disadvantages and after a while it was free so paying was just early access which people conveniently "forget" in there Evolve hate)
Rockstar are becoming just as bad, earn next to nothing playing online and then get bombarded with texts and calls from people (in game) telling you to buy something, which in reality if you do want it you then have to spend £40 just on one of the shark cards or whatever they're called or spend an entire month playing just to afford the basic versions of that item. If you genuinely don't want the item then sorry you're going to have to receive annoying calls every two minutes. If they've done the same with RDR2 (which obviously the can't phone or text but I bet they find a way) then truly done with Rockstar and not waisting money on their products.. which I know.will do nothing to them but atleast it saves me from the constant begging of but this please they seem to do.
heck, back then there were cheat codes in many games where you could unlock everything without paying a dime. Many microtransactions nowadays are kinda like paying for those cheat codes that were hidden in those games.
I really wish a game developer would come into my restaurant. I d serve everyone around him normally. But I d charge him extra for the fork, extra for the knife, extra for better seasoned steak or a regular seasoned steak, I d bring him a plastic cup instead of a glass and I d charge him extra for a glass, and even more for a VERY clean glass, etc etc. I 'd have the meal on the menu for 10 bucks, but a meal with all the "upgrades" up to 200 bucks just for steak and fries.
@@Tholen3 my bad for some reason i though after the 360 they up the price my brother and sister both told me it was 80$ might just be canadian or something
I'm surprised the Sims wasn't on here. It has copious amounts of DLC. Considering all of the main expansions are sold for the same cost of the base game, small add-ons that will cost about $10 each and one or two free updates, its almost as expensive as Train Simulator. EA has a problem.
Yeah the Sims 4 i did the count its about 530$ Canadian to buy all the dlc they even have dlc of dlc and i bought the deluxe edition for 80$. I was like WTF 530 on dlc, for a boring game that get tired after 30 min.
Jake Lo Wang have you seen the sims 3? my dude, they have an entire website separate from the game that is dedicated to dlc and it costs more than 1000 bucks to buy all the additional worlds and each world has an ultimate edition. Plus it sells individual furniture items, no of which are under 1 dollar
But there's waaaaay more free mods you can get from creators online. The way I see it, you're not fully experiencing the sims if you're not involved in the modding community. It makes the game worth it without buying any expansions. So no, I don't think think it should be on the list. Just learn how to download mods and you're all good.
Seeing this list reminds me of one of the most generous games I've played - Terraria. In Terraria the devs Re-Logic did the complete opposite and just decided to continuously add more content, even after they announced that they would stop adding content they changed their minds and added even more content. The game has basically double the amount of content since release and it's all done through free patches. And it wasn't like there was a lack of content on release, as far as I know players were quite happy with the amount of content in the game, but the devs just added more awesome stuff regardless. I got Terraria during early release and its by far the best $2.5 I've ever spend.
Yeah, Terraria was pretty aweso... HOLY SHIT, HOW DID I SPENT 327 HOURS ON THAT GAME, I did not even notice. I think I got it for about $1.5 on sale, talk about value per dollar o.O
I actually think the number 10 game was the worst... imagine playing a game all the way through and when you reach the big finale to find out what happens, the game tells you that you have to pay for it? What? That's pretty evil.
Destiny 1 did this too wth? they didnt have multiple endings but they hid the end of the game in their first DLC and people still play that garbage ass franchise
Kinda sad The Sims wasn't mentioned. Just because its a casual game, less people feel strongly enough to actually talk aboit it, but its actually insane when in a game about LIFE SIMULATION, you have to pay $20 for seasons or pets for example. Its crazy.
actually it all started with "lives" in arcade games remmeber those where you needed to pay 50 cents to play everytime and if liked the game you basically have to not die once or cough up money to keep playing
alex duffy That's not really the same. There's no upfront cost, and they have to make money back on that huge arcade cabinet somehow. You're basically leasing the game.
The Average Gamer Did you even hear about Battlefront 2? The full price $60 game had pay to win micro transactions. I kinda understand it in free to play games but not full price payed games.
While I agree strongly with that statement It sadly is very unlikely to happen, Governments actually seem to be the one's stepping up to fight micro transactions/looyboxes first which says alot both about how bad they are and just how separated the gaming community is.
this is the dream, but there are too many people in this world that want to feel like they are somebody so they dump $100's so others think they are "good."
NBA 2k19 was the third best selling game last year and is the worst offender of microtransactions that I have ever seen. So sadly this is not going to happen. Plus that would pretty much leave you just playing Nintendo, Playstation, and indie games.
(Reporter): so EA, what new ways are you going to be innovating your next line of highly anticipated games releasing? (EA): triple the amount of loot boxes, put two season passes in, put around 3 years worth of NOW $60 DLC, shinier game interfaces to help people press on the store tap and much more! (Reporter): ........I was talking about the actual base game (EA): why would you ask such a dumb question? It’s going to basically be the same game with a new paint job
"Ok guys tht idea didn't work, people still aren't happy. What should we try now" "let's put a game out, put out cool ads, great demos... But when they get the game & download it, all it does is have a 'press any button to spend $5' tutorial pop up" "THAT IS A GREAT IDEA"
That’s because EA is literally the worst publisher, I’m never buying anything affiliated with them for the foreseeable future after they fucked my favourite childhood game IP: Star Wars battlefront
The Gunman then I recommend spider man ps4 I've already 100% it and gotten the platinum and not once did I have to pay extra to do any of that granted you can choose to grind to be op before the end game however the entire main story is beatable without any grinding
The Gunman lol bro I wish there were more of them. Where are the 2018 versions of games like banjo kazooie, or ocarina of time, maybe something like super Mario 64. Like those narrative stories took tons of time to play, have extreme replay value, and I can still remember the developers who made them. Whereas when I think of 95% of today’s game developers, I think of how shitty they are. Look at activision, bungie, EA, even Ubisoft is going bad. It sucks so much. It’s getting to a point where I almost don’t even want to buy new games. I just want to wait till the game is $20 so I can afford the “dlc” that really should be included in the original price.
@@TGears314 I never used to watch TH-cam reviews before playing a game but now it's basically necessary to make sure you're not going to get ripped off. On the up side we've still got all the classics to go back to.
I have never bought a game with DLC (pay DLC to progress or upgrade) to be honest. Mostly because I still just play Left 4 Dead 2 or GTA V online with a buddy of mine on the X-Box 360, still fun as hell. I know one day it's not going to work, but enjoying it while we can. Also as a retro game collector it's so nice to be able to play through a physical game and actually have to work to unlock secrets, more content, etc...Or just simply put in a cheat code/password of some sort. Or if there is in game content with "virtual" money, you earn it actually playing the game by passing different accomplishments or levels. (like in WWF No Mercy) Want to unlock the Mega Man blaster in the original Dead Rising...kill 53,594 zombies and beat the game. Want to buy more nitro boosters or upgrade your truck in Super Off Road for the SNES...win more money by winning races. Want to unlock an unlimited ammo Rocker Launcher in the original Resident Evil 2...beat the game in under 2.5 hours and get an A or B ranking. Want to get the next best bike in Dave Mirra BMX...hit a certain amount of in game accomplishments/tasks. You get the idea! It's a shame it's come to this for video games. More power to players who want to participate and spend the money on DLC, but I won't be one of them. I may buy an Xbox One some day, but right now there are 1,000s of other games to play without any type of pay DLC built in that are still very much enjoyable. I wouldn't put it past the video game industry to start some kind of "old console grab" so we can't play them anymore though.
Not all paid DLC is bad though. There was a time when it was a legitimate expansion on an already great game (back when the term "expansion pack" was still accurate and popular). There are thankfully some companies that still do this. If you need proof, just look at Nintendo's DLC for Breath of the Wild and Super Smash Bros Ultimate. They added extra content without compromising the quality or completeness of the original games. Most battle royale-style games that I've played, like PUBG or Fortnite, also handle DLC appropriately, using it to unlock cosmetic options (skins, loading screens, etc) that can sometimes also be earned through normal gameplay. That being said, I am still glad to have grown up in a time when buying a game meant ACTUALLY OWNING THE FULL GOSH DARN GAME. No DLC paywalls, no mandatory updates, no always-online DRM; games just worked as purchased.
And they dont release a new game every year. The Witcher games were so good vecause they took their times, like rockstar. This is what games should be like
Lootboxes is just a sad thing...basically over 90% of what u've gotten from lootboxes are crap u dont want to pay for Sometimes I want to play a mobile game because it looks great and the gameplay is great, and then theres these lootboxes The drop rates require me to pay like 300 - 400 usd to get what i want....I'm talking about those games in the asia market, its just crazy Pls stahp, I want enjoy games by doing stuff in games not by paying a ridiculous amount of cash
Yhea well GTA couldnt even protect his own game from cheaters, i think every player in there has like infinite money because of cheating, rendering useless the shark cards.
How about We Happy Few suddenly dropping that they were getting published (by Gearbox of all publishers) and the day they announced it suddenly the game was $60, there was day 1 DLC, pre-order DLC, a season pass, and when the game finally did come out it was a broken mess barely worth even $20. No Kickstarter game should EVER do this!
the real way to show developers is simply to boycott products even if it has a tiny mention of microtransactions after paying for the game in full. Otherwise they will just keep churning out more of the same cause from their point of view, it's still selling even if ppl complain
problem with the gaming market is that's flooded with teenagers and adolescents consumers who have zero care about how to spend money. you can boycott all you want, games developers would still have a large portion of the community to cater to.
This honestly should be the top comment. I mean we are heading in the right direction with the backlash against EA, but i still dont think paid dlc is justifiable unless it is a MAJOR game segment that clearly would not have been ready or available at launch (looking at destiny 2 for how far ahead the dlc's were planned and how much they wanted for the content.). It is more expensive to game now than it was 10 years ago and it isnt entirely because of inflation. The jump from $60 flat up to $80 is especially concerning considering they have to produce substantially fewer physical copies (think of the money saved on labor and handling, not just materials).
+Brantyn Gerik Even if there are big segments that are dlc, they shouldn't have something big to do with the story, as well as there should NEVER be dlc that give you any advantages. Especially in multiplayer games. I agree with your comment and just wanted to add :)
Great content as always. I've also noticed that games have been getting increasingly monetized beyond the initial purchase. Some of this is a good thing with DLC expanding an already-great game, but sadly most of it is just the industry offering us more and more justification for piracy (which is still wrong, but when the $60+ purchase doesn't even include the real ending...). I have just one small hair to split, though: "Video games have to make money..." Yes, that is true of the professional game industry, and I can't complain with said industry producing incredible gems like the Legend of Zelda, Halo, Spyro, and the Elder Scrolls series. However, as a hobbyist game dev and member of a few programming forums, I can confidently say that not ALL games have to make money and some great games were made simply "for the fun of it" and never made any of the money they honestly deserved.
I liked back when the whole game was in the game and DLC were just minor extras like outfits and weapons that weren't needed. I don't like it when you have to buy story parts and extra episodes. FFXV was probably the game I got annoyed about most with this. At there's still games like Persona, Nier Automata, FF12, Crash Bandicoot etc that include everything without needing dlc.
@@necromancer6405 I guess that's not too bad, it keeps the game alive that bit longer. But I don't like buying parts of the main story like what they did with FFXIII-2, but I still thing XV went a little overboard with so much dlc and also an alternate ending on top if it.
Loot boxes should be restricted to M-rated games along with an "in-game gambling" tag, and should never lock actual gameplay-affecting content. "Pay to win" or "pay to have an advantage" is a scumsucker move too.
Well that's a dumb statement. Anyone who games at all knows that M rated games usually have more children playing them than adults. Every play GTA online lmao yeah there's no little kids playing that game huh, or any of the call or duties.
Here's the thing. How is a loot box any different than a pack of Pokemon Cards or a Kinder surprise? All are paid items with a set amount of things inside and no one knows whats inside until you open it. Unlike Slots, Roulette and Card games you are not risking money to potentially acquire nothing. No matter what you are walking away with items. That being said. Games should be allowing people to trade or exchange items like you would with Pokemon Cards, if you got something you didnt need. You could always trade with someone. Plus as others have said, your thinking is flawed. Im a 33 year old and I can tell you right now I played games like GTA and Conker's bad furday as a child. Hell on TV I was watching South Park and dont forget 1am softcore porn shows on basic cable.
Things that should be on this list: -Xbox Gold and PS plus (paid multiplayer) -Limbo of the lost -Every game that was relased in the 70s (especially atari games) -GTA online -making the game update every year and selling it as a sequel (I'm looking at you call of duty and fifa) -almost every game from app store and Google store -manipulating children by paying youtubers to make them say that their crappy mobile game is actually amazing
Paid multiplayer makes complete sense do you have any idea what the hardware cost for a single server alone is? And xbox box and playstation both have multiple high quality high speed servers. They run 24/7 except for scheduled maintenance and unexpected crashes. There is an upkeep cost for maintaining them. Power, technicians, part replacement, all of it adds up. Here's what I want you to do. Go look up a decent server board, server grade CPU and about 128 GB of ram, plus a few TB of storage and power supply, and a server rack. Now once you have that look up the average salary of a sys admin. Then calculate the power consumption of that one server. There's a reason these things cost money and quite frankly 60 a year is cheap considering what you get. You like getting paid for your job? So do the people who maintain this shit.
I totally agree! In fact, I purposefully don't buy games because of certain micro-transactions! Like Battlefront 2. What's sad is that a new generation of gamers is coming up and they legitimately think it's ok! 😲 I.e. when I play Fortnite with other people, they seem so confused as to why I haven't spent a single penny in that game. Like, it's the only means by which to enjoy the game anymore. So stupid!
AND, the only reason they think it is okay, is most are kids. Their parents buy it, so they don't understand how working = money. When one works for what they have, $10 for something that should already be in a $60 game, starts to sink in that it isn't "cool" to do this to consumers. It's like, oh $100 for a game and extras, no biggie (for no jobbers). But, we who work are like, $100/hourly wage....nope.
snoopyfix2 fortnite wasnt actually that bad they released the battle royal for free they had to make some money and there is absolutely no advantage to buying season passes or characters but if you brought the full game which was actually fairly cheap by the time the battle royal mode came out v bucks where extremely easy to get and you didn’t have to spend money just easy daily challenges it’s games that charge you full price for just to have to buy extra to be competitive to play that annoy me
At least Fornite is cosmetic only. There's no tactical advantage to paying for a new character. It means that although a rich kid may look fancy, a kid on limited income can still kick their ass by being a better player
i used to like fifa because it was kind of fun to play against friends in local play but then when i tried online i realised that most of it is pay to win. i wish video games went back to the old methot that worked in a way that if you suck, man up learn to play and then you might win.
Dawid 7899 i hate EA trust me. But FIFA does have another online mode that isnt pay to win. Play seasons online (NOT ULTIMATE TEAM). What sucks is that you will only face people playing with Barcelona, Madrid, Bayern and PSG.
I agree that no one should be able to buy their way to a win, but for people like me who maybe can find 2 hours a week to play, I don’t enjoy getting matched up against some 12 year old that knows every glitch in the game to beat me 56-0 in football. It’s just not fun for me so I stop playing.
More maps, cosmetics, and campaign extensions are all fine with me, but don't release weapons that are better than every other weapon for $30, or worse, loot boxes. Foreal, if I could buy the gun I want from COD bo3 I would, but I won't gamble my money on loot boxes.
But then, how would you balance that shit? Bf3 & I believe 4 did this; the premium and dlcs gave you more maps, a side story, a handful of guns bleh bleh bleh; but none of them are even decent against the meta which is, and will ever be, the fucking same 8 guns.
@@holomatic1549 Battlefield does a great job with how they handle balance. Bf5 won't have lot box and will have free DLCs, Battlefield is consumer friendly in this regard. And if battlefield was as fun as Call of duty, I would play it instead. But, I think bf5 is better than bo4 without blackout. But blackout is fun. If I could just pay $20 for blackout and not have zombies and multiplayer, I would.
*Matthew Noneya* Actually battlefield v will have loot boxes but they won’t be called loot boxes. They are called supply drops. Like how fifa calls loot boxes packs.

@Gamer 1053 yeah you know there are ports in general, and ABUSIVE ports, it seems that some games cant live without being on every single platform. Ports are actually a good thing, i agree, but come on, in 2018, ppl had SOOO MANY oportunities to play the game they wanted: emus, pc in general, and soooo many consoles, like SOOOOOOO MANY over the years.. ppl are just lazy as well you know xD
You can't spell thEAter without EA... Oh my god the irony! Watching all these fanboy sheep supporting EA is like watching real life versions of Dumb & Dumber! 😂🤣😂
these games are nothing in cash grab compare to one game I once played.. It was a Russian WoW clone called Allods Online.. The game was free in the beginning, but once you got higher you had to spend some cash on runes or buy them from someone who bought them with cash. All highest level runes cost more then a Lamborghini, but even that was not their biggest cash grab attempt.. There was something called 5th level of patronage.. That was so insanely expensive I cant even tell how much it cost.. A fortune of a millionaire. Later they removed the 5th level of patronage claiming that if someone ever afforded to buy it, he would completely trash the server because other players would not stand a chance. There were already people with highest level runes.. They could just walk in to opposite faction city and totally owe everyone. That's what I call the biggest pay to win game.. If it was not for the runes and stupid gear upgrades I would be still playing that game because it was far far better then World Of Warcraft.. Just that pay to win totally destroyed it. Also all the farming involved was pretty stupid.
And that is why this is much more relevant. If people dont' stop supporting these greedy developers, eventually we'll get more blatant cash grab games. Do we want that? ofc not.
I remember that game! I stopped playing early on because (like most MMOs) it suffered from having a giant, uninteresting map and not giving you any way to get around other than slow asthmatic jogging.
Lots of "free to play" games have turned into shameless cash grabs. Stormfall (referring to the browser version on plarium's site, as that's the only version I've played) started out fairly balanced, but has degenerated into wallet wars. It claims to be a strategy game, but there's very little strategy aside from the metagame, which seems to revolve more around planting spies in leagues and gaining account information for players high enough in a league where their accounts could be used to sabotage the league. The main thing that killed off the strategy in PvP is that they made troops too affordable. Those who spend insane amounts of money end up massive armies that can basically stomp anything on the map that lacks a force limiter. New content, rather than adding fun or balancing out the gameplay, has just added more cash grab. For free, it is so far impossible to earn the best stuff just through grind. So, you can grind for years and what you'll have to show for your effort will be easily crushed in 5 min by someone who just buys it all. Plarium claims its fair because you can potentially win the stuff from tournaments, but I'm yet to see a free player get anywhere near the top in those tournaments. Have to pay to win them, so its not free.
Amen! Thanks for this video. One you forgot though: GTA Online and asking WAY too much money for a simple item. It forced you to GRIND or to buy Shark Cards just to play the new updates. Looking forward for a 500$ revolver on RDR2!
Yea you had to grind for hours and hours or fork out a significant amount of cash (if u bought a ruiner 2000 with shark cards, it would cost u a real life $50 iirc) and once u got the stuff, it either got old after 5 mins or wasn't fun to begin with. Like what can u do on a yacht? Watch ur character smoke weed? Watch him take a nap? That's not fun, that's lame. So much effort or money and you get shit in exchange.
@@RGR490G I'm actually tryin' to imagine what you expected when you bought a digital yacht, in a digital world, where everything has limited usability... Should they have made you a yacht, which spreads out wings and starts flying? where you could add machine guns for ultimate sky wars? If you buy a car in GTA V it's exactly, what it is: a car! the same goes for every other item... I don't see where your problem is, except the fact that you don't even seem to be able to know that for your own... only thing obvious, that you don't appreciate it. But then the thinking mind begs to know: WHY THE FUCK DO YOU GRIND FOR IT?
@@CIIZARmusic They should've made stuff that's actually interesting and made unlocking these things more reasonable. Most of the content you can get is either not fun at all to use or it has its fun completely outweighed by the amount of money/time you need to waste to get it. It all ends up being not worth trying to get at all. That's my problem with the game, I'm not sure what you're not understanding. And I don't grind for that stuff obviously, I just lose interest and drop the game.

I agree, that E.A gets all the grief (rightly so) yet Activision do very similar things but no one hammers them nearly as much, the recent 50 cent red dot sight for example, I actually hope Anthem is a success for biowares sake.
Maybe that's an uncommon idea but why not including the "pay to play online" system? I mean you pay for the "whole" game with the full price, shouldn't people get access to this content already?
The paying for online service is there to cover the costs of building and maintaining the servers. Think about how laggy psn was before playstation plus. That is a cost that makes sense and when you get down to it 60 a year for that is cheap compared to what it actually costs to build and maintain, we're talking tens to hundreds of thousands of dollars for the costs of these servers and people to maintain, upgrade, and fix them.
TheAbyssWalker your forgetting that Sony does not run the servers you play on. If you are playing call of duty, you are using activision’s servers. If you’re playing battlefield, you’re using Dice’s servers. Ect. Sony and Microsoft pretty much just act as gate keepers for online services hosted by other companies.

Tom Zhao not really if they’re addicted you can’t just stop
The thing is that a small % of people spend the most. So even if most dont buy them, they'll still sell them and balance the game around it.
Yes why does no one else bring this up!!!

Like, I care in principle, but you'll never hear me whinge about what's happening in a sports title because I don't play that shit.
Rectangular Businessman At this rate, I wouldn’t be surprised if EA just gives up on making regular video games and just goes all in on mobile and sports games.
Weirdly enough, I don't think I'd mind: let the sports/mobile crowd deal with their nonsense exclusively.
E-A Sports, it’s (not) in the game (until you spend an extra $120 on the game which is so called ‘micro transactions’).

DLC used to be expansions on well loved games. Not games chopped and parts taken for DLC.
Not a fan. Love the vid though! :)
Very few games are actually divided whole games into dlc. Alot are accuse of that but arent.
My favourite DLC will always be Oblivion’s Shivering Isles expansion pack.
People need to stop buying dlc and deluxe editions for that to happen.. And people are sheep so they won't

Microtransactions are not bad but how some companies use them are
Poptart this issue has already been addressed.
Those chest you open in Borderlands are in no way loot boxes.
(Maybe limit the amount of $ that can be purchased per day)
But Overall, I would support loot boxes to be banned. Make extra contents, not cheap ass cash grab. (Also don't take away original contents from the final build and make them paid DLC)

@@fidatunva71 well at least the sims 3 has a little bit more in the base game than the sims 4
Or in order to use a DLC you bought you HAVE to have another DLC just to play it. So you spend double.
But there's waaaaay more free mods you can get from creators online. The way I see it, you're not fully experiencing the sims if you're not involved in the modding community. It makes the game worth it without buying any expansions. So no, I don't think think it should be on the list. Just learn how to download mods and you're all good.
Update: EA calls their lootboxes surprise mechanics!!! :D

(like in WWF No Mercy)
Want to unlock the Mega Man blaster in the original Dead Rising...kill 53,594 zombies and beat the game.
What about borderlands?
i only play games with pay to win becayuse i like to suck alot
and i have dyslexia
I would only pay dlc for the souls games because its worth a lot more than the price

the real way to show developers is simply to boycott products even if it has a tiny mention of microtransactions after paying for the game in full.
@@hellacash126 And young devs
+Brantyn Gerik Even if there are big segments that are dlc, they shouldn't have something big to do with the story, as well as there should NEVER be dlc that give you any advantages. Especially in multiplayer games.
I agree with your comment and just wanted to add :)
Dude that’s just you throwing a fit
Great content as always. I've also noticed that games have been getting increasingly monetized beyond the initial purchase. Some of this is a good thing with DLC expanding an already-great game, but sadly most of it is just the industry offering us more and more justification for piracy (which is still wrong, but when the $60+ purchase doesn't even include the real ending...). I have just one small hair to split, though:
"Video games have to make money..." Yes, that is true of the professional game industry, and I can't complain with said industry producing incredible gems like the Legend of Zelda, Halo, Spyro, and the Elder Scrolls series.
However, as a hobbyist game dev and member of a few programming forums, I can confidently say that not ALL games have to make money and some great games were made simply "for the fun of it" and never made any of the money they honestly deserved.
Mods should be free. Donations should be pushed, but mods shouldn't be behind a paywall themselves. Wonder why so many people pirate JulioNIB's mods?
No, I think the price of the mod should be considered by its creator, since it’s THEIR work
Spaghetti Man they could sell a mod but there’s no game I enjoy enough to ever pay actual money for some randos mod.
I think it depends. Some mods are so incredible that I personally feel bad that the creator actually isn't getting a small reward for it.
the guy who made the thumbnail needs a raise.
I think story is fine as long as It's separate and not important to the original story.
Like adding a new area years after the game released.
@@necromancer6405 I guess that's not too bad, it keeps the game alive that bit longer. But I don't like buying parts of the main story like what they did with FFXIII-2, but I still thing XV went a little overboard with so much dlc and also an alternate ending on top if it.
FFXV is a joke, theres too much DLC and content locked behind the DLC for each of the characters. I refuse to buy them.

The true golden age of gaming has long since passed
Loot boxes should be restricted to M-rated games along with an "in-game gambling" tag, and should never lock actual gameplay-affecting content.
"Pay to win" or "pay to have an advantage" is a scumsucker move too.
That is pretty stupid I’m 9 and I play rated m games
why not adults only rating since loot boxes is gambling
Things that should be on this list:
-Xbox Gold and PS plus (paid multiplayer)
-Limbo of the lost
-Every game that was relased in the 70s (especially atari games)
-GTA online
-making the game update every year and selling it as a sequel (I'm looking at you call of duty and fifa)
-almost every game from app store and Google store
-manipulating children by paying youtubers to make them say that their crappy mobile game is actually amazing
Woah, call of duty's situation is slighltly different than fifa's. I mean, i get why you mentioned fifa but cod...?
Cod’s been a cash grab for like 5 to 6 years now
Xbox Gold and PS Plus give you games back for your money. Just this year Xbox gold had Metal Gear Solid 5, Assassins Creed Syndicate and For Honor
You dont need to pay for ps plus to play online

It's ok, let them loose all their customers, we still have 20+ years of amazing games to play wich don't have that crap
snoopyfix2 fortnite wasnt actually that bad they released the battle royal for free they had to make some money and there is absolutely no advantage to buying season passes or characters but if you brought the full game which was actually fairly cheap by the time the battle royal mode came out v bucks where extremely easy to get and you didn’t have to spend money just easy daily challenges it’s games that charge you full price for just to have to buy extra to be competitive to play that annoy me
At least Fornite is cosmetic only. There's no tactical advantage to paying for a new character. It means that although a rich kid may look fancy, a kid on limited income can still kick their ass by being a better player
this is kid fortnite logic: if you dont WASTE money for a skin that does nothing then you are a noob

Dawid 7899 i hate EA trust me. But FIFA does have another online mode that isnt pay to win. Play seasons online (NOT ULTIMATE TEAM). What sucks is that you will only face people playing with Barcelona, Madrid, Bayern and PSG.
Your picture makes you look 12
I agree that no one should be able to buy their way to a win, but for people like me who maybe can find 2 hours a week to play, I don’t enjoy getting matched up against some 12 year old that knows every glitch in the game to beat me 56-0 in football. It’s just not fun for me so I stop playing.
Microtransactions should be banned unless it’s for a free to play game.
@@holomatic1549
Battlefield does a great job with how they handle balance.
Like how fifa calls loot boxes packs.

these games are nothing in cash grab compare to one game I once played..
Have to pay to win them, so its not free.
.
How about those console cash grabs "pay us so you can unlock your internet you already pay for" lolol
Amen! Thanks for this video. One you forgot though: GTA Online and asking WAY too much money for a simple item. It forced you to GRIND or to buy Shark Cards just to play the new updates. Looking forward for a 500$ revolver on RDR2!
they wont add micro-transactions into single player, only multiplayer if there is one.
Jean-François Tremblay, actually gta is one of the best companies, every dlc is free, they can make the dlcs cost 40 dollars or something like that, jeez people complain about rockstar, go back to ea
This list could be entirely EA
Nah ubisoft has it pretty bad too
Neo ubi have improved massively over the past couple of years
I think 2k right now are close to EA
@@Atachzy Not far behind. EA "yes we have been voted the worst company again." 2k are like "but we wanted that position. We wanted to feel a sense of pride and accomplishment after we got your white man DLC."
LET'S NUKE EA
EA: Electronic Arts, More like " Evil Assocation"!!
Taimur Jamil EA
E- give us lots
A- of money
I know it’s not an acronym.
GOTTEM
EA: Electronic Arts
More like Electronic Anakin
More like Erect-ur Anus
Evil Assholes
It’s the end of 2021. Nothing has gotten better.
if people keep buying this stuff, it they will keep making it. If you really want a change then don't buy them as a way of punishment/teaching. One gamer won't change nything but half of their annual sales? That'd shake things up a bit.
On tghe other hand i think bethesda's little "creation club" is closest thing i have seen to scamming its ridicilous. it should have been in number 1 honestly.
Disagree that creation club should be number one, sure it is greedy as all hell, but most of the mods on cc have free versions you can install from elsware (sometimes even better versions)
@@aspenator42 cmon man they sell weapon textures for more than 5 bucks. I bought entire half life 2 trilogy for half of that money when it was on sale!
@@TurkMan35 I agree they are greedy as all hell and that the skins and stuff should be free, Ibut I'm just saying it's not so bad seeing as you can just go download similar mods for free. You're not forced to buy the creation club crap, just slightly encouraged to. I'll sometimes browse creation club, and if I see something I want I'll just go download a mod of it, eg the Chinese stealth suit for fallout 4
@@aspenator42 yes you can get a lot more stuff from nexus but aren't they "stealing" free content makers of nexus and making you pay for that would normally be free? here is an example of what im saying: say there is a great modder in need of some quick cash which is understandable. and he has done some great mods in nexus but suddenly he goes works for bethesda. now the modders mods can only be bought by paying to the people who doesn't deserve it. with nexus however only modders can gain income by donations. which might be a lot less than what they would get on bethesda. but at leasth thieves don't get away with it thats what i was trying to say.and no mod user shouldn't ever forget that nexus is an absolute savior from corporate greed hope it never dies :/
@@TurkMan35 those are some good points. I also hope nexus never dies. I don't think it will though
1. Fifa... Just Fifa
EDIT: Im just gonna expand that to EA as a whole actually...
No one actually bashes Activision, why is that? They're the ones that made loot boxes popular in the gaming industry with Advanced Warfare.
Advanced Warfare didn't make loot boxes popular
People bash Activision all the time. Take this small indie game called call of duty: black ops 4
@Ricky not even close
@Ricky csgo/tf2 did it way for OW
I agree, that E.A gets all the grief (rightly so) yet Activision do very similar things but no one hammers them nearly as much, the recent 50 cent red dot sight for example,
I actually hope Anthem is a success for biowares sake.
WHY DOES NO ONE EVER MENTION SKYLANDERS IN THESE TYPE OF LISTS
Because it’s toys to life of course you are going to spend over 100$ on it
bruh skylanders whole gimmick is figurines and toys with a game you can put them into you don't have to though
Ishmam Masud - Cuz I Can it’s not even that bad
I bet all of these games were secretly made by Apple.
you mean Activision?
Theres a difference with microtransactions and Apple. So many differences.
Maybe that's an uncommon idea but why not including the "pay to play online" system? I mean you pay for the "whole" game with the full price, shouldn't people get access to this content already?
Agreed
Yes,shit's reidiculous but it can't fit it because it's more of a restricted marketplace than a restricted game
@@BonkLoud they also handle all the matchmaking and do offer some hosting. Not mention the transfer of the data through to the other servers.
EA is a cash grab in a comany form. 😅
just look at sims 4
Hmm... To me the number 10 is the number one~
The true ending story is locked!? How devious lol~
Important video.. I hope all game developers see this and understand how greedy this market platform is .
Lol probably not
EA SPORTS : ItS iN tHe GaMe!!!
EA: "It's in the loot box"
EA: "It's in the DLC"
It SHOULD be in the game!
@@steveviews6051 true
Everything done by EA, Activision, and Ubisoft.
Ubisoft has gotten much better tho
And Warner Bros.
Don't forget Microsoft with Gears 4 and Halo 5 microtransactions.
Paul Allen Halo 5 you get unlock the lootboxes buy playing the game with in game currency and Gears of war 4 is all cosmetics.
Destiny is fine tf
Destiny 2’s example wasn’t a cash grab that has been the case for literally all the games, and expansions
1. People who preordered fortnite before it became free to play
no because they actually bought a game and battle royale is the only free one
Your paying for save the wolrd not for battle royal and it's cheaper to buy then most pre-order games it's only 40 dollars
@@momkeybmalls8551 It was 60 when before.
Technically the fortnite should be completely free to play by now. But you know... monies.
@@bobhiggins5553 I doubt they would do that because you can't betray people who paid for the Save The World part. Just keep it. It's OK. People play the game after the Battle Royale mode is just for Battle Royale. And people actually pay want to play Save The World part,
