My cousin has an Acura rsx that had some bad rust 6 years ago. We wire wheeled the loose stuff off and used the metal prep. Than painted it on. It’s been 6 years in the north east of the USA daily driven and it hasn’t come off and the rust hasn’t come back. Result definitely may vary. You gotta attack the rust behind the repair. If you don’t. It gets out of control fast.
I agree 100%! You have to treat the rust regardless what method you use to prevent it. As long as you prep as much as you can, this will be a long lasting repair!
Make sure you clean the grooves out on the can before putting the lid back on or it won't ever come back off. POR15 is wonderful stuff, been using it for a long long time. I have a '62 F250 Unibody I'm working on as well.
I think the can is too destroyed to make a proper seal! I really had to crank that lid to get it off. Lol it may have been sitting for awhile, before I opened it.
@@JakeHarrington Only take out what you want to use then seal up the can quickly. I use a sponge brush and that works well, and they are cheap. Also, it works very well with fiberglass mesh if you have some small holes, say in the floor pan that need to be covered. Put down some POR15, lay the mesh in and then paint over. Dries hard and will be there forever.
@@SpeedandChromeTV another great idea! It does dry really solid! Thankfully, I didnt have any hole in the floor pan. Just some pitting, but nothing all the way through! Great idea though! Did you have to do any step panel repairs?
Make damn sure you wear a respirator and wrap around safety goggles when using this stuff !! I used it outside and applied with a brush to the undercarriage of my truck and afterwards my eyes were burning and I had a headache that lasted for 3 days ! The warnings on the box ARE REAL !!! I’ve also read where a few people had to go to the ER after using it ! Read the warnings on the box before using !!!
Por Metal Ready spray works great, I put it on heavy, then put garbage bags or something over it to prevent evaporation. My tow hitch for the 68 was way too big, even with goggles and a 3m cartridge type expensive painters mask I was bothered with the fumes, need very small areas at a time.
It is a great product! Just make sure to prep the surface. Get it all as clean as possible, remove any rust you can, and then apply the POR 15. When people negatively review this stuff, it's because they paint directly over rusted metal, without any other form of rust treatment.
Just bought a brand new truck here in Chicago. Its October 6th I'm about to put this clear POR-15 on the bottom of the truck. It's brand new so I'm assuming I don't need to etch it or sand it lightly or prime it etc?
Hey Tony! If the truck has a painted surface on the bottom, it would not hurt to paint this directly over the existing paint. Or POR also makes a rubberized undercoating that is pretty good as well!
And don't for get to pour oil in all the frame vent holes remove the rubber caps, my truck is a 90 and no rust did the same on bottom when it was 3 years old I'm in salt england 😂😂😅😂 Massachusetts.
Very brave to be trying to open the lid without gloves on… If you get any paint on your hands, it will not come off… It will eventually wear off… Nothing will remove it…
Been using POR for years. Great product and holds up nice. Great to see the progress on the f1hunny.
I agree brother! The stuff has never let me down! F1Hunny is coming right along!
Can I put this POR 15 the clear option under my brand new truck? Will it stick to new metal

@@JakeHarrington A trick is to put a thin piece of plastic over the can before the lid, then you won't have to worry about it sealing up forever...
Never thought about that! Ill have to try that! This stuff definitely got extremely tacky! Great product, just a bit messy lol

What about the metal prep etch?
so rad!
Thank you! 😎

I agree with this!! I have a full face respirator I wear now just for reasons like this! I've upped my safety game since this video lol
Thanks for the vid ! I feel Like I’m sanding more than necessary 🥴
The more the better, but this truck will be kept inside a barn while I have it! On exterior parts, you'd want to get more bare metal exposed!
exactly hat im doing. Thanks for the video
Glad to help

Most importantly to do the underside of the floor, bottom just like inside of fenders can rust through to the por side.
Can someone explain what oem material is used for floor board protection, usually black and sheet like
Great video. I just bought some Por 15 for my project so we’ll see how it works. Just subbed

Don’t even take the lid off the can poke a quarter inch hole in the lid and just pour out what you intend to use and tape the hole back up!
That's a really good idea!
Thank you!
I was thinking of pouring the remainder into a new can after hearing that people had trouble re-opening the cans. I like your idea better.
That's the Gospel truth🤓
I hope this works without the metal prep.... my understanding is its essential.
it is VERY essential!
Dis you use metal prep etch?
How do you keep it
Shiny doesn’t fade
I have been wondering how to get rid of the rust on panels (wire brush). Thank you.
It works like a charm! The POR just seals the deal!
how many weeks did it take to get that stuff off your hands?
🤣🤣 definitely awhile! It's like a semi- permanent tattoo

Did the smell ever go away? I used it on my van and it's been two weeks since I painted it and it smells disgusting
I never noticed any odor, once the product had dried

It was definitely like getting POR 15 tattoos for a week or 2!
@@JakeHarrington Been there…done that… I tried everything and I had it all over my arms…
@@tripleseven8361 I just had to let it fade over the next month or so! Nothing would even make a difference!
Cooking spray like “PAM” and a hand brush or rough rag works best to remove it from skin !
Fucking DOCTOR!
Directions do not say apply directly over rust.
always wear gloves. This is not like enamel it will stick for days. Bottom line what ever it touches is coated
I learned that the hard way! Thats a good sign though! Hopefully it'll stick to my truck just as good! 🤣
Try months stuck on skin😂😅😁
