The big corporate bullies are doing this everywhere. That's why the local traders in the rural villages and towns are disappearing. I refuse to shop at supermarkets, but how much longer will it be before all sole traders have been shut down or taken over? Self sustainability is the only option left. My dad & grandad had allotments. We grow in a small area of our garden and we have 2 rai of land in Thep Sathit where we grow everything we need. Plus it's all organic. Screw the monopolising corporate bullies.

Brilliant vlog with meaning. Sad that small villages in rural Thailand are being invaded by corporations who are inherently greedy, inhumane really, only wanting to increase profits for stock holders. The local stores that went out of business because of this were called Mom and Pop stores/shops in the USA. Respect and Thanks Ryan, this field piece was enjoyed. Educating and learning from your children as the world changes around you is truly an unknown adventure but something you will face together as it evolves. Peace and Love.

Ryan, we are having the same issues with Tuk Dee here in the North. The owners are losing money, the app was not working properly, and they have taken Tuk Dee to court. Hopefully they will get it all worked out soon.
We enjoy and frequent the small family owned shops here in the village.
    Enjoyed your video.

Unfortunately I've also know these little franchises popping up. I loved our little pop and momma shop here at our house. Hopefully I get it reopened, even if I have to wait a few years until my twins are older and they can accept payments off customers along with the mother-in-law. I loved returning from a bike ride late afternoon and seeing a few locals out the front of my wife's shop having a few beers or whiskey ❤

The local “ma&pop” shops ( most) I have dealt with in rural Thailand are disorganized and full of dust, gecko poop and dark inside. The “family cashiers” at the shops are usually not trained and too busy looking at their phones. Yes, there are exceptions. I prefer to stop at one of the convenience store franchises, ( such as Lotus mini mart -not 7-Eleven) because of cleanliness and familiarity.

Anyone born in the 50,s in U.K. watched this slowly happen to most if not all small corner shops, well certainly in smaller Towns in Scotland where I grew up with populations between 6 and 12,000. Maybe the only difference being that those shop owners watched shopping habits change when large Supermarkets came to Town and could drive there and buy in bulk and as we know they didn't just stock food but video games, cloths etc. Still its a shame because the repoir that you had is gone. I remember my local Chipie also sold Budgies lol.

This has happened everywere Im 58 and I remenber the local small businesses . But no more are around in tbe SF BAY Area.
This is just the beginning. And corporate and big box, chain stores will further spread to rural areas.
Corporations and thier subsidaries and contractors etc all destroying small business. 😢
Maybe if some small businesses are rebranded as boutique groceries, food, clothes etc shops.....there might be hope for a some.
Thank you for such good video. All i can say is shop local, buy local if you can ❤
By the way your not sinnacle .You just awake and not sleep walking.

Maybe it is a little more sinister, the big corps are in fact taking out the small local competition on so many levels, from suppliers to the retailers, win win for the corp if all the small guys go bust, similar thing also happening with online food and delivery to your door, as you said it is all aimed for a cashless society and control

In the USA we called them Mom & Pop shops. And they mostly disappeared 50 years ago. I agree with you corporate partnerships with small businesses are generally a one sided relationship and the winners are the big companies. In the UK and USA and “civilized nations” owning your own shop has become very complex. I recall local hardware stores being social centers. Now totally dominated by corporate retail who get tax breaks that mom & pop shops do not. Sad

this is a brilliant thing to vlog, you are right, no one else is doing this. I have noticed this "Took Dee" thing as well. At first I saw one in my town and thought it was just some enterprising person taking their mom and pop shop up a notch with a POS and a good sign as well as big stock of products, but then I started seeing them around and realized what it was. Kind of nefarious. Anyway, now in the last two years, it seems they are everywhere.

I’ve been seeing this happen much of my life in the States. Ryan I’m sure you know this one. Seeing small music stores that were great, great people, very personal closed because of big box guitar shops.
Now, I have seen my own girlfriend have a shop (much like you’re showing) in an Isan village completely close down because of a 7/11. This was the primary income source for an entire family who has been fighting just to survive ever since. Makes me furious! Business is business but what cost?!?

A small positive about the shops is at least it is not more cp so a little bit of variety since Tesco went and joined makro and 7/11 as lotus’s the quality has took a dive and now fresh clean meat is nearly impossible to buy locally, these deli style fridges are just a way of keeping stock longer so they don’t have dates. I’ve been in my local and the chicken is nearly getting up and walking out and I’ve also watched them restock with the large bulk bags already 2 days after the use by date

In Australia 😂 we have lost a lot of personal service & niche products. Small butchers, bread shops, fish & chip shops, Small supermarket's & small hardware close down. Re Cashless small shops have to charge 1.5% more for bank fees & pass these fees on to customers. ATMs & Bank branches being reduced or removed. Then the internet goes down & causes problems. 🙏👍Re big business it always boils down to the $$ & shareholder profits.

This is what happened in the West too, the big greedy corporations came and have weekend trading with Woolworths and Coles and big supermarkets, and bang there goes the corner shop which was where locals caught up to get the Sunday paper, Milk and other groceries that they might have forgotten to get, and had a catch up with one another, thank goodness though the mining city I'm in here in Australia doesn't have weekend trading, and now the mine will be closing in 2025 and over 1,000 jobs will go 😢

Mum and dad shop 2 doors down from us in Tha Chanuan has closed. 7-11 coming to the village in the coming months, and it’s right opposite the school. I worry the other shops and street vendors outside school will struggle. The kids are just entranced by 7-11. I try to tell people that you have to protect and support your local markets and local shops because when they are gone it’s too late and part of your culture dies. Lessons learned from living in the uk and seen the same thing over the years.

Last time I was travelling in Thailand just over a year ago, I came to realise that the alcohol sale laws in shops where time is restricted, are just ignored by these wonderful and quaint establishments in the more rural areas. I utilised them at every opportunity in preference to the corporate and plentiful 7/11s. The people providing this service do so with charm and a smile, and if it costs me a few baht more than a supermarket it is money well spent.

I tend to agrree with the main thrust here but prior to a Tesco Lotus mini-mart opening about 4 miles away we had a 50 mile round trip to buy milk and butter or access an ATM. What I don't like is the larger companies taking advantage of local people's gullibility and eternal optimism. They don't have the education to take a strict business approach and often get taken to the cleaners by big business.

The issue with the few poppa Momma shops I've been to in Thailand was the limited breadth of products and the fear that some of their products would be past their official date limit.

Thing is years ago not every province or fair size city had Big C or Tesco, so mom and pop stores were supported by local people , now your average Thai has a truck or car so they shop at the Big C's or the Tesco's which are cheaper. Mom and Pop shops can't compete true but that is free market. It's the Thai people who choose to shop where it is cheapest. As for your relative who lost everything, did they really understand what they were getting into? Did they think it all the way through. A lot of rural people sometimes aren't the best business people or don't really understand the contracts they sign. Though sorry for your family loose.

They just make the deal sound great and get their branding. A corporate business’ job is to make money for its shareholders. 🙏

This is a classic example of how capitalism ultimately puts the power in the hands of the few.
It would be interesting to see how their margins / profits have changed since the Megacorps moved in. I guess as long as the locals have good profits and have a higher degree of security/stability, it sounds like a good partnership?
But then Megacorp have the power to turn the screws further down the line, which could have untoward consequences.

It's an absolute crying shame to see this going on.
The Corporates know people will almost always look to the immediate, but not the longer term, future.
I remember growing up (in England) when we would go to the high street and buy meat from a butchers, vegetables from a greengrocers, bread from a bakers, fish from the fishmongers, tobacco, confectionery and newspapers from the newsagents etc.
Gradually, the "mini-markets" moved in, then the supermarkets, currently the out-of-town hypermarkets but moving up fast are the home delivery fulfilment warehouses such as Amazon.
Younger generations won't mind because they don't miss what they never had.
But it's a shame because nowadays everybody's working for THEM (the parasitic Globalists) and next to nobody is truly self-employed, anymore (or not for long, leastways) just look at what's happened to the taxi services which were all self-employed drivers but now working FOR a taxi-app service and financially worse off in addition to being overworked, because of it.
Shareholder greed knows no limits and the people who ultimately benefit have never, between them, actually produced anything even remotely approaching the limited usefulness and relative simplicity of a toothpick (nevermind a Chesterfield sofa and chairs).
The only thing THEIR (the Parasite's) money does make is..... money (for THEM and THEM alone).
If the Governments weren't all corrupted and compromised, the solution is easy:
Tax profits on investments providing physical products and tangible services at, say, 1% but tax profits on investments in what is effectively a rigged slot-machine, by 90%.
    Problem sorted, done and dusted.

You have a very narrow understanding of the F&B market. I think you're a hippie at heart so anti-corporate mentality. It's always been low margin and is generally only considered a lfestyle business of earning some income from your residence. with high depreciation of stock losses from ageing. The concept of stock and plant being provided on appro or consignment is not new but spreads the risks associated with ageing, plant and equipment maintenance. It has the added benefit of zero stock-holding on accounting costs and stock re-ordering all being automated thereby requiring less employees.

Yes the deal put my wife’s auntie out of business as they charged her 400k startup and with the same customer base she could not get anything near ROI, my career has been as a senior manager for one of the largest hotel chains and FB companies in Thailand - Minor Hotels, which include burger king, sizzler, and most other chains here, so my mentality comes from being on the inside of multiple franchise agreements, namely with the coffee club. I can tell you we always won even when the franchisee lost 👍

It was a poor business decision on her part - in the first place to think bigger and brighter options would increase sales in an established area with a set customer base.
