- With over 20 years of engine development, it's no surprise the Ford Barra engine is reaching horsepower levels where an aftermarket block is becoming more popular. Dandy Engines recently pieced together a trio of billet block engines for what are already 7-second Ford Falcons.

@fullboost Excellent video lads as always 💪👌. How’s shop going? Was awesome meeting you guys at Epping, did 5/5 review video of your DIY shop
It's gonna be so awesome to meet anyone capable of handling this power for even just drag racing.
They'd have to be the batshit crazy ass adrenaline chaser that dies soon after!
(And before anyone gets any ideas, I'm not against 3K or 10K nor do I care where or how it's used, internal combustion is the solution to everything incl speed & power)
it doesn't matter, whether you love it or hate it, the barra is the best engine designed and built in Australia
Na was its older brother the mighty fucking INTECH
Best in-line 6 ever
No the Rb is the best motor built and designed in Australia
I have the first of the proformance Ford 6s in my cortina 1970 250 2V,factory 6 engine in xa coupes 😁🤘
@@deanstiles8080Nice, they're sweet engines.
Frank pulled up when I was broken down, went home got me a dizzy absolutely best car person ever met
As an American, I would like to thank Fullboost for opening my eyes to the Australian performance automotive scene 🇦🇺. Since I’ve been into Ford 351 Cleveland based engines for 40 years, the Fullboost video featuring a Dandy Engines built 461 Clevor with Higgins Race Heads and intake, really blew my mind !
This video featuring Frank and the crew at Dandy building the billet Barra is equally amazing. I even enjoyed reading the comments because I didn’t see any confused Chevy fanboys claiming the LS engine was far superior. That tired old LS bullshit is wearing pretty thin nowadays.
Thanks for keeping it real guys 🏁.
Tim, at drag boss garage did an interview with Frank. Well worth a look if you haven't seen it.
@@gibbsey9579 Talent like Franks is definitely worthy of a full length interview. Tim is a longtime friend of mine and I’m proud of everything he does to preserve the early years of Pro Stock Drag Racing history and promote the legendary Cleveland engine and those individuals who are currently involved with keeping it in the winners circle around the world 🇺🇸🇦🇺🏁.
@@danielwilson6665 You are very lucky to call Tim a friend... I'm a fan of his youtube channel, and of course the Cleveland engine.
@@gibbsey9579 I couldn’t agree more about Tim. The Cleveland and fans are totally hardcore. I appreciate your kind comments 🏁
I reckon I would watch Frank bake a cake! Thanks fellas
Gotta love that Barra valve cover beak. It’s just so ridiculous, yet iconic of a design.
3K HP should be a breeze as long as that aftermarket crank can hang.
That crank is basically a top fuel crank.
Impressive engine. We went 8.22 at 175mph (in a relatively light 2860lb car) running the most basic of Barra's. It was machined and the short block assembled by Dandy Engines (Stock block, crank, head, cams, etc). They really do know their stuff. Great video guys.
Cant wait to see a falcon run a 6 with these bad bois
Dandy Engines is world class in my book and Frank is such a humble man. Well done team!
Frank always been the man, please put one of these barras in a 1400kg car like a cortina or capri want to see sixes.
A 7.44 at 185mph is insane!! Anything under a 9 is a LOT of work
Really glad I got a Torrington thrust bearing put in my Barra when I had it rebuilt!
Such a talented, modest man always so quick to divert any direct pressure to his colleagues and friends. What a lefgend, great video!
The 1/4mile burn out.
Billet prone and Frank in the same video, life's good, love it
HPR is a national treasure, we should all support the track. Come out to the DYO challenge and show us you can cut a light and run your number.
Barra the world 😘
i watch Steve Morris d this most days, did not know we had anyone here showing us this.
Thanks for sharing Dandy.
Cheers Fullboost for great Upload
I've said it before, but it's a great time to be a Ford guy building a car. These engines are amazing. And I was a Holden guy for years. I like em all now. Those billet blocks are very pretty.
eta: outstanding viewing btw.
Can’t wait to one day see a 6 second xr6 turbo driven to and from the track
Driving a 6s car to/from the track is usually not a thing. At that speed you are running tiny fuel cells. I have a friend who has driven a 6s car to the petrol station and back to the track and video'd it, worlds fastest R35.
That day will come, hopefully soon. A G6E with all trimmings run a 6 at double warp speed. Ah, Barra, blue oval heaven.
Unfortunately I'm not sure it's possible, falcons are bloody heavy even a ba xr6 is 1700kgs.
My fgs 1750kgs I'm at 480whp 775nms and barely cracking the 11 with an 11.94@114 through a tr6060, an auto might crack an 11.8 ,hell u need 700hp just to run 10.00s in them 😬🤣
You'd need approximately 3k hp atw just to crack a 6.
Jun11 is around 3500hp to run 6.30s and it's lighter than a falcon.
i dont understand why a master like this needs to justify his ways of working..if were him i would never say ''some might not agree with this, but it works for us''
STUFF THE INTERNET TROLLS! TELL THEM TO MEET YOU AT THE TRACK IF THEY DISAGREE WITH YOUR WORK STYLE!!
That xw's engine bay is a work of art
Mates built one of these here in Adelaide, he will be shaking it down shortly. Well done Full Boost, so sick of EV content lol
nOT enough automotive scene here in Adelaide compared to other states.
EVs make me boil lol
When he got the phone call that was the best part lol
So many blokes try to talk up their capabilities, so it's refreshing to see Frank (one of the top engine builders in the country) understating what he can do.
A comment that it was an Australian designed motor, I guess, in some ways, but I did hear that it was Yamaha that designed the head that made the difference. When the engine was first released, it had to be detuned so the v8 could still sell at a higher price, and that is from a Ford engineer I know.
A guy in my hot rod club exports barra Motors to the USA, and they are just waking up how good they are.
I only hear good things with these motors.
One of my customers races with a barra motor in his car. He is not drag racing but doing circut work in an xr6 Falcon, and he said it is like taking a machine gun to a knife fight. He just cleans up big time. 😂
I’m in the USA and thanks to FullBoost, I’ve become a huge believer in the amazing Ford Barra engine. We definitely need it in the States 🏁
Now I will go back to your history and I allways thump up.
God bless guys)
If they can make a block, Y not make a V12.
Double the Barra!!
5000+hp....yes, I'll have all of it please !!
One of the best builders of engines in the world Dandy race engines
Cool to see brass and copper valve seats. Looks like jewellery.
It may be an Iconel or titanium alloy. Not sure if brass or copper would tolerate the heat...
@bvward Yes, those valve seats are probably made of beryllium copper. They are for super tight tolerances. + or - .001 - .002. Also, they expand and contract at a similar rate as aluminum. I actually just found out about these a few weeks ago. I may have the head rebuilt for a vintage motorcycle I'm restoring. The machinist was going through different options. I'm pretty much going to have to have the valve seats replaced, they are pitted badly. In fact I may just buy a different head that doesn't need so much work.
@@Thundarr995 Got it. Reminds me of my Triumph Trident (1972) days☺
Wow how time and technology have changed 👌👌👌
Another great video, Frank is way too humble, he’s a genius!
Crazy to see how much that alloy rod bent without shattering.
Alloy has come a long way!
I love listening to Frank talk engines , I love big Barra blocks , pretty much heaven on a stick eh , good stuff.
i'm happy to see he knows the torque put on a bolt means nothing without measuring the stretch .
Awesome video boys its great to see great work
7Great video guy's Barra the world... The boy's at Dandy engines are doing an amazing job. Here come very low 7 sec and 6 sec Barra cars...
I can see these powering 5sec 1/4 mile drag cars!!!!! Rbs and 2jz can im pretty sure this have the potential for it
Definitely a 1st class operation. Wonder what an engine like this would cost ?
Great work fullBOOST
What a cool engine and video.
Thanks
The Barra is the only acceptable replacement for a coyote
So now a Barra will try to catch the Road Runner (Meep-meep)?
I saw frank at willowbank raceway he even had the time so say hello Awesome bloke 👍
Wild stuff.
Still surprised that they're not dry sumped🤔
Big ups to Frank
Legendary stuff boys!
Franks seems to be very nice person and honest and genuine guy his cars go very fast but he still doesn’t talk him
Self up
Thanks for sharing 😊
Works of Art.
awesome video loved it
Pretty nice stuff. Definitely worth it. Definitely would use a Barra in a build
Really entertaining tube. Thanks 👍
Top tier content.
awesome⚡️⚡️👍 thank you boys⚡️🇦🇺
Barra the world!!! 👏🏻😎
Incredible
3000hp goal Jesus Christ 😳
Finally a Barra that sounds good 🤣
Excellent ...
Junior and senior Frank are good people 🇮🇹
Would love one of these.
Gold 🥇
I could listen to frank talk all day
I don’t have a billet block or fancy crank, but I’m coming for those times.
very nice, my 1969 mini cooper s had a EN40B crank from factory
So nice
9:08 Steve Morris uses the exact same trick for his SMX/SML engines. My guess is a lot of big horsepower Promod guys do this.
watch him daily, and Pete Harrel. Legends.
So good to see someone here sharing their work.
how much do one of these Bara complete engine packages cost?
i watched 23mins loved it gg boys
Certainly the worlds highest performance Taxi engines !!
maybe Frank should suggest to supercars to adopt the thrust bearing system he's using instead of what's causing issues at the moment
Aussie power at its best 💪🏼
RAHHHHH **TORRINGTON BEARING MENTIONED** !!!
Awesome guys, more content like this please, a small insight into the Master Mind of Frank at Dandy Thanks
Geeezus !!
Always enjoy the content from Dandy.
Can you make a street car mustang t shirt 🙏🏽
7.76 XD Falcon, just wow
A RCSB f150 with a barra is a supra killer.
It looked like those pistons were in the hole a little bit. Have you guys played with the quench clearance? I'm not big in the 4 valve heads but on a 2 valve it makes a big difference in detonation and power having a tight quench area. Great looking product!
Are these the Adelaide made Bullet blocks? Its amazing how similar the Barra is to the Ford Duratech V6 from the late 90s on. I think the Echoboost is based off it. Same oval port exhaust, 4 valve, same intake port style, split block with girdle etc. Maybe Im the only guy in Oz that has actually built one.....most end up at the wreckers....which is a shame.
So how do u get end float of the crank with that bearing do u still use the factory thrust
WE LOVE FRANK VIDEOS
So pretty, I want one but with a SOHC head. Barras are great but the SOHC sounds better :)
I'm sure that's got to be possible !!
can someone find a person who would build a top fuel dragster but put the 2500hp barra in it
Would be good if they built billet hemi sixes and slants😍
These Nitto crank what is the actual material used? is there such a thing as a titanium crank?
Now someone needs to make a billet GM fwd 3800
Love seeing a fullboost notification… 🤙Australia’s own 1320🇦🇺🫡
The original and the best.. Fullboost.!
Oh this is what i want to see!!
i just want my 1000whp and a nitto or DPM 3.8ltr crank so we can rev it to the moon
I suppose 100 LBS of boost would require quite a lot more intake valve spring pressure and stouter parts to hold up to the spring pressures?
Is that sikaflex that is being used on the head gasket surfaces?
The caps and the girdle as one is a Honda K series oem thing
Honda motorcycle engines have been built like this since the 60s.😄 The Ford V6 Duratech has a girdle with caps like these.....and that was in the 90s on!.
So somehave coolant running through the block other drag apps don't yeah or no?
Killer ❤
is it really still a barra engine when its no longer got an orignial barra part. i feel like after you take the block out and then add all the other parts its, not actually a barra. idk if its just me. still a sick engine tho
So Is a "keith black hemi" not a hemi because Chrysler didn't make it? (Not snarky, just offering different context)
@@onedayiwillmakesomecontent i don't know the history of of that engine, but personally if an engine no longer has any hemi parts and is a full billet custom engine, i wouldnt really class it as a hemi any more. its more so a hemi "inspired" engine.
lmao
@@ItsTakaTime Similar to using non-factory turn signal bulbs.
The accepted definition is could factory parts go on, so if factory batra crank heads timing cover etc could go on this block, it's a barra as it honours the original design.
How cool classic mini copper S from the 60's ran en40b steel cranks 😂😂
Faaaark me 😮
What was the 3bond product used for the head gasket?
Maybe to better hold the copper gasket Frank installed?
Never seen anyone put sealant on the deck surface. What's the purpose?
Aluminum rods?
Top fuel runs alloy rods
Ford DID have a problem with their thrust bearings - my old man's AU did a thrust bearing...... but it waited until 390 odd thousand Ks to do it.
Probably would've done another 400,000 again with a 360 degree thrust bearing because she still ran mint, only had to scrap it because the crank was walking so far it couldn't keep a serpentine on.
