If you're trying to copy the save file from your usb to your hard drive and you only see the option to "delete" with no option to "copy", you probably have the game's title/image highlighted and not a specific save. Once you've got your game highlighted, press right once to step over into the save files for that game. Then press A and you should see both "copy" and "delete" options.

It replaces the stock dash with a custom one and by preserving the hardware it lets you replace the HDD when it inevitably goes bad as you back up or swap out the HDD key.
Pro tip: The Xbox controllers are just USB controllers and they have a USB Hub inside them. If you have one of those shitty third party controllers that half busted you can do what I did. Take it apart and replace the memory card port with a standard USB port. The pinouts are literally identical with the exception of the yellow wire on the fifth pin that is used for accessories but not needed for the USB port so just don't connect anything to it. Now since the controllers have two memory card slots I can just plug the USB stick into the lower one and a standard XBOX memory card into the top one.
that's cool for those who own an xbox with a working dvd tray, in my case the hotswap method did it, but since that method included outdated programs how do I update the softmod now? some say if it works don't change it but that new dashboard looks cool.
I've been trying this with Splinter Cell, I know I have all the files on the system, but when I choose the checkpoints option, the game just hangs and never boots into the softmod installation. I've placed both the softmode save and the SC save on my Xbox HDD. I have a newer Xbox from 2005. My system just hangs and never goes black or to the next screen.
A few questions for anyone familiar with the process: I've read that some people have issues with 'Splinter Cell' not loading the save properly? I'm guessing it doesn't make any changes if it doesn't load properly? Apparently you need to immediately turn off and reload game to get it to work? I would be using a PAL copy for my system. My main concern is the locked EEPROM, with it softmodded and reset to a bunch of 0s, can you then return to stock OS with it retaining the EEPROM changes? Or do you need to backup the stock EEPROM to return to stock? I'm not sure whether I'd want to leave the Xbox modded or return to stock, but I do know that it would be foolish to let my system die with it's HDD, whenever that fails. From what I've read a mod chip would be able to recover a system with failed HDD, but obviously at a much greater cost than a cable and a USB stick.
yeah, happened to me years ago, I got the black screen after choosing linux with splinter cell, but resetting or just pressing the eject button to reload the game, the exploit worked, I even bought 2 splinter cell discs just in case. But eventually my dvd drive died and for other people I had to do the pc hotswap method.
I've been trying this with Splinter Cell, I know I have all the files on the system, but when I choose the checkpoints option, the game just hangs and never boots into the softmod installation.
On mine it's not letting my copy the files did I do something wrong? New issue not sure if my Xbox is the issue but my Xbox light turns red with tony hawk 4 during the softmod but then reboots and just loads the game again
I had an issue where the only option was "delete", no "copy". It turns out that you have to highlight the game, then press right once to select a save for that game, then hit A and you'll find the "copy" option. So the issue was that I had the game's title highlighted, not the specific save file for that game.

Now my xbox dont have any dashboard, on the end when i remove the cd the console wont finish the soft mod, the screen stays black and orange light and red light on, i really dont now what to do.....
Okay. So I reset my Xbox to stock and got Insignia running. Pretty cool! But, unfortunately, now when I attempt to re-softmod my console via Splinter Cell, it just hangs after I press A on Check Points. I followed your instruction to the T and I'm not sure what the issue is. I'm going to try Tony Hawk 4 next and see if I have any luck. Other softmod installers are also not working for me with the Splinter Cell exploit anymore.
Just getting back into original and I have 2 questions. 1 do you have to burn the "extra disc" onto a disk or is there a usb method. 2 what place would i go to to get information on what emulators I can put on the emulator tab? Thank you!
I remember doing this back in the day. I have the usb memory card adapter, and hunted down 3 of the games at GameStop. Still have all the stuff. Going to make another soon
I'm not sure about music files but my save games, which I think are on the same partition, were still intact after the softmod. It also may be possible to just launch the softmod from the exploited savegame and use a file manager if available to transfer the files from E:\TDATA\fffe0000\music to the USB drive
So I can set the dashboard to the original to where it doesn't look softmodded at all? This is my first major softmod and I wanna keep the system looking as original as possible. I'm not into it looking different than intended. Also for the ones that have done this, from experience, was this an overall easy process? Seems easy enough but like I said, it's my first major softmod. The first being a few of the mini classic systems.

If your clock battery is dead and won't keep the time (like mine is) then it will go to the MS Dash automatically on boot. As long as you backup that EEPROM then you will always be fine, if you don't however you could be in need of a new Xbox as it's the code to unlock the harddrive's password protection that even if you connected it to a PC you cannot bypass it as the PC will ask for that password also since it's a hardware level password that's specific to your Xbox's motherboard stored in that EEPROM and there is only two way to get it. Through the softmod and from Microsoft and MS ain't telling you shit. Personally after I softmodded mine I connected the hard drive to a PC and created a disc image of the drive. You can do this by 1) Backup the EEPROM 2) UnleshX setting menu you can unlock the hard drive (remove the EEPROM password protection) 3) I then connect edit to a PC running a Linux version specifically made to work on Xbox HDD's and it created an image and relocked the drive using the EEPROM file. You can then use this same method to swap the drive to a larger capacity. This was back in 2006 when I did this so there maybe other software out there now days but essentially the process would be the same and from this video (even though I didn't need to watch it and only was curious about modern methods) shows that the process is the same but the UI's have been better streamlined making mistakes unlikely compared to the UI I had to work with back then. The game save exploit I used ran UnleashX from the memory card, and once you have that running you can do everything that a normal softmodded console can without it being permanent. The only caveat is that you would have to run the game save exploit every time you turn it on but you're good as long as you do not turn it off and only use the L+R+S+S to reset back to UnleashX (or other dashboard). This way you can "test the waters" of a softmodded console without making any permanent changes.
Reinstall it with the extras disc then you can go into the file browser and find it under the C drive. An app shortcut might also get created that will appear in the apps section of your replacement dash.

I can tell you from experience that playing games emulated on an Xbox is more like playing on the actual systems then on a PC. Technically it should be the same but the Xbox has tons of efficiencies that PC's don't have, even though it's technically just another PC. The xbox doesn't have the Overhead that the windows OS bring because the Xbox is running a barebones version of windows that functions mainly on ... DirectX (Hence why it's called an X box). There are many other engineering techniques that make subsystems far more effcient than a PC and still used on modern consoles, but good luck emulating on a Xbox One X. The PSP is also another great device to play emulated games on due to how the hardware was designed, though I still enjoy playing emulated games on my PSP, playing them on the OG Xbox is a far better experience and I have a Ryzen 5 5600x and GTX 1080 TI with 32gb of DDR4 3200 to compare to. PC's can game, but PC's inherently are designed to be General Purpose computers where consoles are designed to be Gaming Computers, and therefore gaming machines do gaming best. People prefer gaming on a PC because you have a larger pool of games to choose from and use it for general purpose computing at the same time. This is a severe limit on a console.

Just wondering if you would kindly tell me how to prepare the files to be put on a dvd disk like how do I make it bootable for the XboxOG? At the time of my comment and I’m experiencing error 13 because I did make a mistake (just soft modded system) but I’m wondering if the Xbox will launch from the disc with this error present or will I still keep getting error 13? I was stupid and did NOT backup my eeprom with my hdd key so I don’t have that. also I’ve already burned two discs with slayer and the other truHexn with the system still displaying error 13 and not booting from the discs, however oddly enough the console will still boot from and play original Xbox game DVDs… I do have an executor 3 chip but it’s not installed. So far from what I’ve learned is the only way to recover the hard drive key is to extract it through the EPROM dumper for which I need the EPROM reader tool or to modify the system with my chip. Any help would be very much appreciated if you’re willing to make a comment. Thank you in advance! 😅

Feels like money thrown out of the window, but learning is always involved with cost as well as trial and error I guess.
@Archades Games will everything be intact after softmoding it? i like to keep everything thats on my xbox have old save games than music. i have everything to do it well sprinter cell is coming today lol.. edit. hmm been looking it up more there is topics saying save games should be fine and everything on the hdd should also be fine too.. so i guess it be fine
It doesn't touch saves so you should be good to go!
is there away soft mod my Xbox 360 E
360 requires hardware mods
It means your dashboard is missing. Burn the rocky5 extras disc iso with img burn and see if it launches. If not try the softmod process again since you said it still reads retail discs. If none of that works install the chip.
@@ArchadesGames got it, thank you. Yeah unfortunately the saved game files where launch Linux was is no longer on my system either. So if the rocky five disc fails it looks like chipping would be my only option. Thank you for the reply.
My brother used Splinter Cell I belive
Metal Arms: Glitch in the System is such a hilarious name considering how exploitable of a game it is to hack an Xbox 😭
i restored mine to stock and have error 16 how would i go about fixing it
