  • Next in the AIRR pipeline is AW A School. This is where you learn the most about yourself mentally. Tests and academics are where you will be tested. This part is where AWR and AWS separate and become aviation rescue swimmers in their specific helicopter platforms.

    I really appreciate these video’s! My daughter has her heart set on this. She graduates this June and should enter basis around the fall.

    Hey man! Thanks for the awesome channel! I have a quick question. I am 33 and itching to join the navy as a Aviation Rescue Swimmer. Do you think it is possible to get an age waiver right now?

    • @TheRescueSwimmer
      @TheRescueSwimmer  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I unfortunately don’t have the answer to that question. That would be a great question to ask a recruiter.

    Do many AIRR later go on to be Officers?
    Love the channel by the way.

      From my experience a lot do, but I'm from the AWR world. It's all a numbers game. From the time you step foot at aircrew school till about 10 years later, only about 5% (or less) remain in the community. Guys like Jeff are survivors of one of the most brutal pipelines in the Navy. I'd say 10% of the remaining 5% go on to be officers later on. So if you look around at aircrew school only about one half of a percent of those sailors will ever become an officer. In other words, don't do the AIRR pipeline to become an officer, do it because you want to have an experience that you will remember for a lifetime.

      @@garneroutlaw1 You think the attrition rate for the pipeline is that high?

    • @garneroutlaw1
      @garneroutlaw1 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@collin833 I know it is. I went to school with Jeff. Attrition isn't right term though, it's retention. Attrition is definitely higher than 50% while in the pipeline. Go to the Navy NPC website, click career management, community management, aviation. Then click naval aircrewman on the left. Then click AWR community in top center. You can see the steep drop over time. Most seaman to admiral candidates are at least 10 years in. So you can see naturally the percentage is low that ever become officers. People get discharged for injury, misconduct, and just separate at diff times in their career. Im here if u have questions.

    nice vid! do rescue swimmers work with spec ops like seals?

    • @garneroutlaw1
      @garneroutlaw1 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yea we do, often. Even the AWR guys. I worked with British SAS and Marine MARSOC, but never SEALS. Many of my senior crewman worked with SEALS at Fallon, NV though! It sounds exciting, but it's really not. Most of those guys are so jaded and barely even payed attention at the briefings. The SAS guys were out on a bombing range without shirts on - getting a tan. They were supposed to be wearing flack jackets lol.

    What happens if you don’t pass one of the schools or training academy? I heard you get placed with another rate totally different than s air crew

    • @kiernanmccleerey
      @kiernanmccleerey 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      While in Pensacola, if you fail out of any of the school houses there (NACCS, ARSS, A SCHOOL, ...) then you will be subjected to a different rate; most likely not another AW rate. You may have a small choice in the matter but it really isn’t your say
