  • The first step in the AIRR pipeline is Aircrew school. Everyone trying to become a aviation rescue swimmer or aircrew in the navy has to go through aircrew school. We will break down what you can expect going to aircrew school. also know as NACCS Naval Aircrew Candidate School is a command under NASC or Naval Aviation School command. This is where they make sure you can fly. You will have to complete the Helo dunker, PT on a regular basis and get medically screen to make sure you are physically capable of flying.

    I went through NACCS in summer of 1990. Then went on to AO "A" school in Millington, TN. Then from there went to VP-30 in Jax. Then after being class honorman I got first pick and chose Brunswick, ME where I flew as an Inflight Ordnanceman on the P-3C Orion. Served from 1990-1995. Great job for those interested in flying 👍

    Being at NACCS is awesome. It's stressful but absolutely the most elite school on the base and you're treated a lot different from the others.

    • @ryanas447
      @ryanas447 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@bradleycutter8293 getting the contract wasn’t hard, just availability and do good on your asvab. Dry rates are AWO/V/F and EWO. Wet rates or rescue swimmers are AWR/S. If your dry you’ll be on fixed wings unless you get lucky and you get offered a dry AWS rate where you’ll be in helos with the rescue swimmers. My class got a couple offered but I didn’t want them.

      I can tell you a bit about it👀 publicly, I will say this; there’s a reason we sign all those papers waiving our rights away to keep our mouths shut.. what happens In SERE should stay in SERE…SERE differs a lot though depending on your MOS. If you’re doing AWS, since it’s considered SPECWAR, it’s tough as fuck. You WILL get hurt for real and you WILL be traumatized after everything whether or not you make it through😂😂there’s a limited amount of information you’re allowed to give out to capturers like MOS, Name, and the branch of military you’re in. I know a friend went through SERE and she’s the most bad dads woman you will never meet🤣 she was the only woman to make it through SERE 2017 and she came out with a broken rib and fingers. a little traumatized too from some of the shit they did to her, which we can’t talk about 🤐

    I went through AW "A" school in Millington, TN from Dec 1972 through April 1973. Cold as hell there in the winter... There was no formal Aircrew school at the time. Water survival was part of "A" school. AW was the only rating guaranteed to fly after "A" school. Anyone wanting to become a flight engineer, Inflight tech or ordnanceman had to be an E-5 to apply to become an airewman. I didn't learn what platform I was going to fly in until I graduated from "A" school. I received orders to FASO / VP-30 in Patuxent River, MD and reported in early May 1973. I was assigned to the acoustic operator side on starting FASO. I then trained on the P-3C with VP-30 at Pax River until August 1973 when I reported to VP-5 in Jacksonville, FL. They were flying the P-3A when I first arrived but transitioned to the P-3C about 3 months afterwards. I didn't go through SERE school or ride the helo dunker until I transferred as an AW1 to the west coast in 1981. I retired as an AWCS in 1998 from VP-46 at Whidbey Island. I was a VP acoustic operator my entire career.

      It depends on weather the billets for Aircrew are available. If Aircrew is what you want then you stick with that. Also remember there is selective reserve and FTS (full time support.) You will not be a Rescue swimmer if you select to contract as those but you can still go Aircrew. You will be an AWF assigned to either C-40A or C-130H. Make sure your recruiter is explaining those to you and you know your options! If you need any help or have any questions you can def hit me up!
