Did he make it? I got to pull data and shoulder watch the training, for air rescue school. Wow those guys are tough. The class I watched only 8 made it through. Actually met my husband because of it. He is flies in Romeos helos.
I had 2 saves. Was glad I did it, but I decided not to pursue rescue and fire fighting once I was out. The thing that turned me off of it was the attempted suicide of a navy dependent visiting a ship in Alameda NAS. It was hard to hit a woman to get her managed. I was a fresh civilian at the time taking someone else to see her husband on the boat since I had a car. I never wanted to be in that position again. Too much drama for me. She got hauled off to the mental ward. I never thought about it until my wife was cleaning my desk and looked at my DD-214 and asked about it.
99.9% of the time in a fleet squadron...vs. station SAR...Rescue swimmer days are pretty much the same now as 20-years ago. Collateral duties and the flight schedule. We used to PT/swim 4-days per week in the AM if not otherwise scheduled for something else. What isn’t clear to many, being a rescue swimmer is just an additional skill-set that you must remain proficient in...Not to diminish anything about being a swimmer, it’s relatively minor job compared to your day-to-day work...And, that can be frankly a lot of busy work and BS. That’s just the nature of the military.
Thank you so much for this. There’s such a vague understanding of AIRR throughout even the spec war training community I’m working with before I ship. It would help if you could explain the pipeline as well. Love your vids, such an underrated youtuber.
@@jaykedolan4663 Thats awesome. I'm jealous lol. I'm only 16 so I have a while to go but my biggest question is how hard is it. @@MrMojo-rp1in it’s a lot more running than you’d think, and it’s not super physically challenging, more mentally... you have to be able to deal with bullshit. Coast guard swimmer is definitely harder
About to take my PST and hopefully get a contract! How often are you guys doing swim workout or workouts in General? Is working out apart of your workday?
Great question. We do pool training on a regular basis. Gotta stay proficient in swimming for sure! Working is part of our daily schedule, so win there!
Jeffrey I have three questions for you. One- what is the difference to being assigned to land versus vessel? Second- Can you take prescription meds once in. Third-Living in the barracks can you eat healthy and clean with the food provided for you?
Kind of but not really. Two types of squadrons on the S side. Expeditionary and carrier, both deploy to ships. But expeditionary can go land based and does a lot.
As for the other two questions, it all depends on the mediations. When you live in the barracks you can eat healthy because the galley has all the food for you. You just have to eat the right stuff in the proper amount.
Yo! I am currently working on training for an AIRR contract, I’m only 5’1 so I feel you on being small asf haha but if you set your mind to it then you can really do it, I’m the only girl in the group of training but I use it as motivation to wanting to do better :)
Hey Jeff, I am currently thinking about the Navy and I am super interested in doing AIRR, however a problem I have run into is that I have asthma but it is only viral induced meaning it only effects me when I am sick. I haven’t really talked to a recruiter about this, but do you think that I could still go by and if not is there any solutions?
Awesome question, I unfortunately can’t answer that question. What I will tell you, is that the Navy has to make their own medical assessment of you. They don’t go to your doctor or doctors.
Not trying to start a fuss... who's the best swimmer...rescue swimmer or USAF pararescue ? I would go with pararescue...not saying I'm right...USAF Retired flat belly MSgt...24 years. O....I wasn't pararescue...and I'm not saying I could have been a rescue swimmer... I would probably not made it thru either program.. I did keep a flat belly... though.
I know this video is old but I have a question. I have glasses and am wondering if you are aloud to wear contacts. I have 20/20 vision with glasses and about 20/65 without.
Hey Jeff, question: what are some jobs you've heard of people getting after leaving the Navy and the AIRR community? any info would be helpful. Great videos keep them coming and thanks for your service
Great question! So just to name a few from people I know who have gotten out. -Civilian SAR -FBI HRT -writing flight schedules for major airports -Pilot
So a schedule in a day is SAR and the next day could be is tactics and with collateral duty or collateral duty could be the next day ? So it just depends on the schedule what you get ?
Jeff Jorgensen Nothing at all Just trying to figure out more information about the career but this video says it all thank you very much and your service really appreciate it.
Oh man.. I thought it was. The swimming trunks took me off of picking AiRR rating. Lol I told my recruiter just yesterday I might do Sar corpsman. Have you ever worked with them?
+Anthony DeBenedictis let’s put it this way. If you get a better score doing CSS, then free, the training is going to be very hard for you. Freestyle should be easier for you, and if done correctly, you should be able to smoke anyone CSS. In training all you will do is freestyle. Hope this helps. Are you better at CSS than Freestyle?
@@TheRescueSwimmer CCS is easier for longer distances for me. But recently I've been focusing on freestyle. Just trying to find the right breathing technique to help. I get winded after 100yds
Great question Nick, unfortunately we do not to HAHO or HALO. If you were ever in the predicament to do those, it would be quite hard to get back into the helicopter. Awesome question though.
that's all in the eyes of the beholder. I'm biased toward AWS, because I fly in Sierras. They do similar jobs to a degree, AWS rates get all the station SAR billets. The big difference is when it comes to tactics. Hope this helps
Jeff Jorgensen talked too some ps in my command they said I can try and ia billet and they can get me set up and the earlier I start it can definitely be done for aircrew being already aviation and they’re gonna set me up with a metting with my ccc when she’s back from leave

What should you study the most in ASVAB studies to get this job. I’m a small guy but a good swimmer but I’m kinda bad at tests
I’m in A school right now for FC but if I reenlist I want to attempt becoming a rescue swimmer
Hey jeff what squadron are you in cause i saw in this video you where stationed at north Island
How much combat do rescue swimmers usually see?
Almost none until we go to war. We dont deal in low intensity conflicts on conventional warfare.
Would it be good preparation for AIRR school If I trained by splitting the minimum PST qualifications in half.
Good question, I would say that the PST should be a cake walk. A PST in my book is a warmup for my workout. Mins should be very easy to do.
Doing my psts now. Quick question for anyone who can answer. Is it beneficial to learn the CSS, or should I just focus on freestyle swimming?
I also am doing this. Way i see it, can't hurt to train both. But I have been mainly focusing on freestyle
If your doing AIRR I would personally recommend freestyle. You won’t use CSS at all in ARSS

What’s daily schedule when you’re not deployed? Like what time do you work and what time do you go home? How many days off do you get?
It changes so much it’s hard to have a normal day. I wish there was an easy answer.
I know this video is old but I have a question. I have glasses and am wondering if you are aloud to wear contacts. I have 20/20 vision with glasses and about 20/65 without.
If you get fully accepted and pass training they give you corrective eye surgery for free.
