A heart felt AHHHHH! I got me some Breaking Waves. Alie up the mast, swinging around, camera in one hand and tying a knot with the other. Another example of having balls without testicles. Hope your illness passes quickly Ben. Have fun and stay safe. ❤🙏
Alie, you’re a MONSTER!!! - great filming to boot🎉 Watch your main halyard for chafe at various reefing heights (can hit sheave support at top of mast) plus sheet halyards where they ride over pole. You can buy chafing sleeves sized for various size lines worth their weight in gold on long offshore passages.
Alie, take off all your rings when you do maintenance, you don't want to RIP a finger off if you grab on to something if you slipped and caught the rings. Think safety all the time.
Hell yes as a retired engineer here in New Zealand I've seen some very nasty results from welders having arcing across a ring and basically burned to the bone instantly to having their ring caught in a machine and actually left the guys finger hanging by a bit of skin, all jewelry was band in my workshop
CONGRATS on your pulling the pin and getting on your way and on climbing the mast. What a hoot! Have fun guys. Catch some good waves for me when you arrive.
Well done both, just look how far you’ve come from those early yt videos in BC. I thoroughly enjoyed watching you grow the channel and grow as sailers. Your “five year plan” has come true to sail an ocean, what an achievement!
Bit of advice on halliards chaving. These simple things getting a halliard from inside the mast to outside will kill any halliard. You bend it a couple of degrees, depending on the lenght of the metal thingy. Chave will occur. Even with dyneema lines. A halliard can come from inside the mast and out to have a straight angle to the winch. That takes two rollers, top one to take the halliard under while the lower takes the halliard on the top of it. To bridge the angle and have less chave. Nevertheless, one should always check for chave. And, what Ialways did.....Buy 5 meters extra length for your halliards. Use swivels on the head and tack of the sail and use a bowline to attached halliard to the head of the sail. Most importantly: When you drop the sail, check for chave at the top end of the halliard. You can also check chave on the bit in/out mast. Thin line on end of hallaird, hoist, and the part that might have chaved comes out. As soon as you see chave.......shorten the bowline on the head......and you are good to go. And then......repeat. Hope this makes sense.
I had two halyards chafe badly and I discovered it was the wind rattling them against a point on the mast that was sharp. Took my mast down and filed and sandpapered every place that was right angled.
Wow Alie ! You're a sailing freak ! Good dang job. You also Ben. A great team. Thank you for the video work, the editing and mostly, for sharing your adventures with us. Can't wait to see the future adventures ! Take care and fair winds to ya !
Y’all are going to Rock It. Your 1st sail and nothing matters anymore. Keep your head up and stay safe and strong for this great journey. YOUR FINAL GOING WEST YOUNG LADY. Live the Dream. Fair Winds to you both. ❤❤❤
Incredible video up the mast at sea is not easy, I knowI I had to do it once and my adrelin level was through the roof afterwards, well done taking that video while up there!
Hey guys , ken and karen dussome here . I am so envious you guys right now i wish i was doing the same thing you two are doing . You and ben are keeping my dream alive with every episode i watch . Thanks guys safe sail be safe and ill watch your next video. Take care ❤
Love it. Just love it. Well done Alli. I don't know if I could do that. We'll i would if i had to. Enjoy your crossing guys. Stay safe. & Keep up the good work 💪. SV Kiwi Lady Opua Bay of islands New Zealand 👍🏿
Holy hell there is no way I have the balls to climb up there while tied to the dock never mind while under way in the middle of the pacific !! 😳 You are way more badasser than me 💪
That's true! Would be a lot harder to pul off as ours is pretty big and heavy, but lots of outboards have been stolen in the La Cruz area unfortunately
Ha you may have missed a few. We left Bruce in Canada with Ben's parents for the year when we returned to Mexico. He's getting older and not capable of the type of sailing we are doing this year. We miss him dearly but he's well taken care of :)
Still not caught up but wanted to comment..would like if you mentioned the temperature on your videos. Also, what delicious looking foods you are eating.
I alarm my ebike, why don't people alarm dinghies. Think it work better then my 200$ lock, its very loud , ROCKBROS 115dB Bike Alarm Wireless Motorcycle Alarm with Remote Vibration Motion Sensor Waterproof
You guys need to get your videos😂 closer to real time because everyone knows you completed the voyage over a month ago, so your departure vids are really getting old. From Nuevo Vallarta.
We'd love to.. but sometimes the story writes it's self and sometimes that means we are too busy living that story and editing/posting takes a lower priority.. you'll see what we mean soon ;)
Thanks for all the great sunset shots
Always generous. Thank you Derek!
My weaknesses are sunsets from your boat and the sound of rain bouncing of your boat . How I miss the sound of rain from your Vancouver videos.
13:20 That is indeed pretty! Fair winds!
Im so happy for you two. Ive been following Calico for years and its so much fun seeing you guys buddy boating now.
Thanks and yes great buddy boat!
Fair winds and following seas. Great adventure guys. Cheers!
Thanks pal!

Yes you are cool Alie!! And I enjoyed Ben demonstrating that he clearly played team sports with his clapping and encouraging comments early on 😊

Totally agree. It only takes like 30lbs of pressure to deglove a finger with a ring on it.

Will do :)
Beautiful sailing ⛵️, thank you .Great adventure. I wish you a fear of winds and following seas 🌊
thank you💙
Crazy Canucks! Awesome drone shots! Not fun landing on a swaying boat. Go Oilers!

Outstanding drone video!!!

❤ from 🇨🇦BC you two
This is Absolutely nice
Hmm. Calico was sick at the start of their passage too. Sounds like someone sick was drinking out of everyone else's glass the night before departure.
Ha that's a good observation
Thank you.
Wonderful to watch such a special experience for you ! 😊👍
It really is!
Yes, air temp especially in the northwest
A pair of legends !! Super cool.
Thanks pal!
Nice 😊
Great video yall❤ looking forward to the next😊
Coming soon!
Love watching your progress my favorite Canuck cruisers! Even with your accents when did a halyard become a hailyard?
thank ya! And yes you're right we do say it weird...hadn't thought about that!
Im Canadian also. Moved to San Diego 25 years ago and was constantly kidded about saying 'aboot'.
Alie, climbing that mast at sea is NOT something everyone can do.
Holy hell there is no way I have the balls to climb up there while tied to the dock never mind while under way in the middle of the pacific !! 😳
You are way more badasser than me 💪
This is a great edit!
Thanks!
Fortunately they didn't steal your outboard 😊
That's true! Would be a lot harder to pul off as ours is pretty big and heavy, but lots of outboards have been stolen in the La Cruz area unfortunately
Oy how and where is Bruce?! Loved your pupper aboard. Did I miss a video?

Too many people colour grade out the deep blue of the ocean in sailing videos. I like that you don't.
I alarm my ebike, why don't people alarm dinghies. Think it work better then my 200$ lock, its very loud , ROCKBROS 115dB Bike Alarm Wireless Motorcycle Alarm with Remote Vibration Motion Sensor Waterproof

Do you have a twin sister? You look very similar to a girl on Monday Never
We've heard this many times! No Alie and Kat aren't related, but they do look like they could be sisters!
