Great video James, love the topic!
Agreed with 'X', its like Def Leppard on auto-pilot 😅. Has some decent moments/tunes on it. Always loved the song Scar on that one.
Never was the biggest fan of 'Against'... its ok at best. I loved the two follow up albums: Nation & Roorback, killer albums.
'The World Needs A Hero' was my introduction to Megadeth believe it or not 🙈. First Megadeth cd and vinyl I owned, and I absolutely love it! Fantastic riffs and solo's on it, I wouldn't have minded a second album with that line-up. The album holds a special place for me 🙂🤘

Megadeth, to some extent was always "Mustaine and his sidemen" but for me, that album was when it actually started to sound like it. That lineup had ZERO charisma IMO. I was so disappointed when it came out and my opinion never changed. It feels forced, lacking fire, a lot of the lyrics are whiny or lame, the drums and solos leave something to be desired, the vocals are too loud in the mix, etc. The only song I really liked from those sessions was treated as a b-side (Kill the King). For me, that was the moment I knew that the Megadeth I had loved for so many years wasn't coming back. The System Has Failed was the nail in the coffin.

Hey Mr. B great video, its amazing to me that over here in the states Megadeth World Needs a Hero and the System Has Failed are super hard to find at least for me, especially for being on the low end of their catalog. There was a copy of each from 2013 at a record shop for 90 dollars a piece. Also I have a question for you or anyone who has an opinion, do you store your record discs in their album jackets or do you put them outside on the back with a sleeve? I sleeve all my records of course but putting the disc on the outside on the back just looks wrong to me. But i obviously want my discs to last as long as possible and be as safe as possible. I see I'm not the only one who gave up on Bon Jovi 😉.
I remember liking that Morbid Angel album at the time but admittedly haven't listened to it in years.
Admittedly, the Green era Sepultura started rough, but they have put out some good to great stuff since 06.
That Fear Factory album is their equivalent of Demolition as I thought the album before it was a Top 3 album for them.

I would say that Def Leppard hit the mom rock trend either just before or at the same time as Bon Jovi in the mid-late 90's. Adrenalize was really the push into that area and it just got worse from there. I've bought 'X' and EUPHORIA when they were new and never bought another DL album that wasn't of the original 5. And maybe Retroactive.

I would agree about the Bon Jovi album Burning Bridges, i think their sound started to change around the These Days album in the mid 90s, in my opinion the best Bon Jovi albums are their first three from 84-86, and that Def Leppard album isn't good, it sounds more like Yacht rock, but i think their albums from Songs from the sparkle lounge to their latest one have been pretty decent, for me i think their best ones are On through the night, High and dry and Pyromania,

This made me think of the times I bought some stuff and was disappointed by it. Interestingly all of these albums I can think of fall into the same category - a drastic change of sound by the band in question. First album I can think of is „The works“ by Queen, which really shocked me at that time it came out, I think everyone who liked early Queen can relate to that. Second, „No prayer for the dying“ by Iron Maiden. A more subtle change of sound, but still made me rethink my assertion that Iron Maiden could never make a bad album. Third, the Black Album by Metallica. I still remember my first listen, and being stunned that I didn‘t enjoy a single song.

I came here for The World Needs A Hero, I actually quite like that album though I have heard some people saying bad things about it and others have implied it's a great album, prefer it more than the previous two albums which as Cryptic Writings was a success Dave Mustaine believe that doing more of a similar direction would work when it came to Risk and because that ended up doing the complete opposite he realised they needed to just go back to their heavy roots, which Marty Friedman at the time had lost interest in doing and preferred their then-current direction which led him to leaving the band, also no surprise seeing Transgression here though the band wasn't necessarily to blame for the outcome of that one, I really dig quite a few songs on it but the main issue was the production was rushed so the audio sounds quite raw, that was a result of their label at the time putting pressure on the band to release in time for their tour, and this was part of Dave Mustaine's Gigantour festival

Even Digimortal had more solid tunes than that. Megadeth's The World Needs a Hero & Testament's Demonic has mixed feelings from fans. Sepultura's Against sounds like the band going through the motion. Even Roots has better songs than Against.

Maybe I’m just a Dave Mustaine fanboy but I really feel like he can do no wrong. It took me years to get into and appreciate Risk but now I think that’s a very good album. The World Needs A Hero didn’t take me nearly as long but on first listen, I was kinda annoyed that three songs have a lot of spoken word from Dave, and there’s the spoken word on the answering machine in 1000 Times Goodbye. I understand the dislike of the album as a whole because even though there are some thrash moments, it has this mid-tempo feel to it as a whole, and it’s dark but kinda in a meandering way, if that makes sense. The solo in 1000 Times Goodbye after he says “you know what? You suck” is one of my favorites ever.

I might agree on the Kingdom's Disdained album, but I actually had the opposite reaction. At first I didn't like it because I thought it was bland, but going back to it, I definitely appreciate it more now because there just way too many crap death metal bands out there that at least MA still stands out. Not to mention that Illud Divinum Insanus was so awful that I can't help but think that anything would have been an improvement over that... and anything was. Yeah songs were more memorable, but not for the right reasons.
Megadeth's TWNAH isn't horrible (not sure if I prefer it over most of their Drover/Broderick era songs... not blaming them btw) but it's overproduced imo. The drums are too compressed, the guitars have no resonance, and Dave's excuse for it not being heavier and faster was that when you try to "right the ship" it doesn't turn on a dime... whatever. I actually like the slower songs on there, but I agree with a lot of what you said.
Passing off Testament's Demonic as just a death metal album might be a mistake. I do think it's one of their worst albums but... actually I can't really defend it. But i will say that when Eric Peterson brags about having a ton of riffs for Testament albums, I wish someone would let him know that not all of them are good riffs. From Souls of Black on, for every good to great song, there has been a bad to mediocre one.

The World needs a hero was just bland, but they were trying to get their mojo back. I actually like Against lol. The thing with Transgression is that their label was a brand new label and they demanded a new album from the band within a year of Archetype, even though the band didn't fill ready. The label wanted to just have another album out there. Christian and Burton fought during the making of the album too. Over all I like the songs, but they lack passion. I love Killing Joke so I love that cover. I love Demonic, it's in my top 6 Testament albums for sure. For me Brotherhood of the Snake is the worst album Testament put out. I'm bored of it by track 6. I haven't listened to Titans of creation much, it's just too long for a Testament album, and I always end up reaching for something else. Long albums put me off. Some absolute garbage here I totally agree. Dave Narvarro was in the band for 5 years I believe and this was all that they could come up with? Saw them live on this tour and they were average but I saw VH3 lineup live and it was awesome 🤘but the album is average at best

Yeah the RHCP didn't utilise Dave Navarro very well at all. Jealous you got to see Van Halen with Gary mate, would have loved to have seen that. Cheers mate
