I think if I went away on a business trip an whilst I was away my wife insulated the garage and added outlets and did donuts in my car I would sit on the floor of my garage and cry tears of pure happiness.
Pretty much the best wife ever. Knows how to build stuff, is a wood worker, intelligent, not afraid of hard work and knows how to do donuts in a Vette, and insulates a man's shop. perfect wife.
Each time I watch one of your videos, I learn just a tiny bit more of who you are and the talents you are blessed with. This video really touched my heart as it reveals so much of who you are. In this world of so many "me" oriented people, it is so refreshing to see someone who truly loves their husband and loves life. Your spirit has a unique blend of grace, compassion, dedication and spunk.
This was posted years ago, but I want to write that, as a woman doing DIY home improvements, I was very happy to see this! While I am still strong for my age.... getting older has made me (1) a little weaker, and (2) more concerned with even small injuries. Thus, I need find more creative ways to maneuver heavy/cumbersome things. You are very strong, but it was awesome to see some of the ways you compensated for (1) working alone and (2) perhaps not being a hulk. Well done!
WOW!! I dream of finding a woman like you. My ex wife used to surprise me when I came home with her latest crafting idea... you surprise your husband with running electricity and adding insulation to his shop. Your husband is absolutely the luckiest guy on the planet! Kudos to you sir, and April, as always you've impressed me!! Amazing as always!
For someone who has very little exposure to this, you are very clever when it comes to working around problems being alone when tackling something like this! The fulcrum idea to lift the boards is ingenious! Amazing videos! Glad he loves it!
I've done a good amount of remodeling including a garage and am currently starting the second. The one thing I have always complained about is stray wiring and insulting. Never thought about splitting the paper from the fiberglass....GENIUS!
I get excited when my wife makes me coffee in the morning, but coming home to this would have put me in excitement overload...Great job, congratulations. 👍
The picture you have in the garage is my most favorite & dear to my heart. I actually have it on a wooden plaque along with the woman praying too. They used to hang in my grandparents kitchen above the stove & that's where I have them in my home. I always thought growing up that it was my grandparents in the pictures because they resembled them so much. Sorry for babbling but I had to share. 😊
As always, great job April. A suggestion, that might save you some time and effort on the electrical - Mark all the box locations first, drill your holes and run the wiring. It's code to staple them to the studs - 8" from top and 6" from box. Run your romex (12/2 for 20A, 14/2 for 15A) and leave about 8" excess past your marks. Nail on your boxes and strip that 8" excess. This makes it easier to put into the box. Make sure the end where its stripped just fits into the box. Staple 6" from each box. Making up the boxes is neater and faster now and you won't have to stick a knife inside to strip the material and make a mess or cut your finger. now just bend the b&w's up, twist your grounds leaving a pigtail and connect your receptacles. I would have used two 2-gang boxes on each wall instead of 4 or more 1-gang so theres less work. 2 receptacles in each box, 4 plugs in 1 location, means less wiring, staples, boxes, cuts and sheetrock holes to measure. Keep up the good work!
For lighting suggestions - I used the LED 4' shop lights that Costco carries (on sale $34 each!) in my shop and it made a WORLD of difference. I replaced every 8' Florescent with 2x4' LEDs for a total of 16 and it is as bright as day ... or brighter in there now. Huge benefits also is no matter how cold it is in there they come on instantly and there is no flicker or annoying buzz. Instead of hard wiring them in I converted the existing hard wires to outlet banks and then just plugged them in. That way I now have ceiling outlets throughout my shop now also that I use to drop cords down when needed although it is a 12ft ceiling so I have to stand on the bench or use a ladder if I decide to go that route.
Agreed. Eh yo I just bought four of these and now they are about $37 and you can actually connect them together so I'm only using one cord to plug them into ONE Outlet. Oh yeah and they are motion activated. Great post. Thanks for the info bruh.
Wow April. This is the most humanizing woodwork video I have ever seen. There is not enough comments here to explain how beneficial this video is to societies around the world. Love, equality, fun, life, freedom and much more are all expressed here in one package. My favorite video watched in 2017!
Watching this in February of 2024 and great job on the insulation. I'm looking to redo my garage this year and have started watching some how to videos. This was great! I'll definitely be watching more!
Never saw one of your videos before today when I thought about how to insulate a garage, but absolutely loved seeing that just like me, my mum and my sister you are one of those people that seems to get a kick out of doing things like this! Really enjoy watching your inspirational and knowledgeable videos with my little boy and girl.
So I started this project in my garage, put in some awesome rockwool insulation and a couple new outlets, only to find out at the 11th hour that this doesn't remotely meet fire code. Attached garages with a shared wall to the living parts of a house need a 1-hour fire barrier; OSB does not provide this at all... should a fire in the garage start, insurance will give you nothing. LP FlameBlock is a fire rated OSB, but other than that, you need a 5/8" gypsum board on the walls. Just FYI...
@@GregK9 Code here says any wall carrying structural members must be covered in Fire rock. So in my house this consists of floor supports of above bedrooms. Since all walls here are supporting a roof in common with house, code may require all walls.
Seen many videos on TH-cam, hands down a truly blessed individual!!! GOD BLESS you & you’re family!!! Awesome work, I know you’re husband must’ve really appreciated that hard work! GOD BLESS
Wow, just got a chance to watch your video. It might be a older video but it was great to watch. That "S" on your shirt tells it all. You should be very proud of yourself on a great job. Watching you do donuts was priceless. You deserve it. You made your husband very happy. He differently know why he married you. GREAT JOB GIRL
I would love to tackle this project in my garage. Great video! You broke it down very clearly and gave me confidence that I can do this too. You're more handy then me, so I am bound to struggle a little, but I'm excited to give it a shot. I really wanna become more handy like you guys, so I wanna start taking on these projects, not just for the improved garage space, but also to learn and get experience.
When I started, I knew nothing, started slowly, building on my experience and confidence. Then I could do more complicated projects, again building on that experience and confidence. You can do anything you set your mind to. :) Research your project, enjoy the journey and learn from any mistakes. Thanks for watching.
Was nice to meet you today at VPS (25 Jun 23). This is the one of the first videos I watched from your channel as I was doing the same for my garage as I turned it into an insulated garage gym to include adding an attic for addt’l storage, attic ladder, more outlets, etc. Thank you April!!!!
3 outlets and insulation? Amazing job! Your husband will appreciate the extra warmth and coolness in the winter and summer. I need to get this ish done also.

Love the donuts!! I feel his pain on only having one outlet. I need to run more in my garage too. Matter of fact, I need to do OSB and insulation too. Great work.
April I love your projects and videos, you have some great ideas!!! Your reaction to your husband in this was priceless, especially after the donuts!!! :)
YOU GO GIRL...you did that!!! I know that I'm late to the party but I just came across this video but I aspire to do what you've done. So .glad I came across this video
Awesome job, April! My garage is in desperate need of some insulation. Your husband is a lucky guy! I think I'll have my wife watch this video and maybe she'll get some inspiration for the next time I have to go out of town hahaha.
You go girl! Kudos to you for doing what most women would never consider doing!! I work construction & we do have to be innovative in the way we lift, carry & suspend heavy objects. You ROCKED in the innovative category & the Superwoman tshirt fit your personality like a glove!! #GirlPower
Best video to date. Check out one of those cheap plastic plywood carriers at Home Depot. I know you are young but back injuries are forever. God I am a troll.
I have one of those bad backs, lost one disc and now waiting to have a fushion. I am always on my Son for lifting heavy things on his job. Just hate to see anyone have to deal with a back injury. April's work is amazing.
+Marc Eaton I was young and dumb aka over zealous.. I went through 2 years of physical therapy and 4 years of chiropractic care. Today, 12 years later, problems everyday. And of course into the future.
Yes my back is pucked up from disc damage. you should NOT strain when lifting. if you do it's too heavy. once you mess it up...figure having pain for the rest of your life. I am 30 and it sucks. torture.

Hi April I found your videos and I’m enjoying you guys sharing your talents with us. Now I know I’m coming in very late in the game, yet I wanted to share a few wiring info. I the wiring in the walls you should secure the wiring against the studs as your running to the ceiling. National and state codes are helpful to require wiring to be secured with 4 to 6 inches max distance from the receptacle or junction boxes, and then securing the remaining run stapled/secured against the structure. that a girl! We just bought a house and I am gearing up to finish the garage this weekend so I did a quick search and found your video. Best tip was the 2x4s and lever....I was going to recruit a friend but now I think I can tackle it on my own. Thanks and keep up the videos!
+April Wilkerson that's the key! Like making the first cut, its inspiring to see you go at something foreign- with good resources , and killing it. Fine job.
Well done , i also doing walls project now in these days and this video help me alot, also i'm doing alone like you , i also want to surprise my family that i did this alone. respect you and your videos. Thank you for your time and this video, great job.
Nice job. It looks like the electrical won't be up to code however. Did you staple any of the wires to the studs? The blue PVC 1 gang boxes also don't really have clamping connectors from what I've seen. It would just take a good tug on the cable from the attic to pull it out... which is why the electrical codes exist.
April, I didn't expect that in the end, I'm glad I watched the whole way through! By the way, those tires are expensive, but you more than made up for it with all your work in the garage.
I don't know how I missed this video, anyways, great video, lovely install,... but the doughnuts.... truly priceless. I'm a fan and a follower since at least 2 years (since the sliding barn door) and your evolution has been great... but the doughnuts... You and my wife are clearly cut from the same cloth. Cheers.
Did you check with the local building inspector to see if OSB is up to code (fire rated) for garages? Also, technically, you are extending electrical circuits and that does require an electrical permit. If, God forbid, you had a fire your insurance company may reject your claim. Love your spirit and what you do! Keep it up!
+NW Adventurer thats true.. especially the notoriety of the internet and videos.. makes it really easy for an insurance adjuster to do simple research and come up with reason/s for denying a claim..
All I could think of this whole video was "Man, that guy hit the jackpot when he married April". Then she did donuts with his car. HA...OK, he still hit the jackpot.
OMG YOU HAD ME LAUGHING OOUT LOUD, WHEN YOU STARTED DOING DONUTS!! I WISH YOU POSTED A VIDEO OF YOUR HUBBY WATCHING THE VIDEO! LOVE YOUR SITE. IDK HOW OFTEN YOU READ YOUR COMMENTS OR IF YOU STILL DO BUT I JUST WANTED TO GIVE YOU PROPS. SIDE NOTE FOR MY WIFE "BABE DONT EVER DO THAT!!"
LSX FTW. Funny enough I watch your videos because I don't know JACK about home improvement, but I can pull engines apart. I really enjoy your videos, keep up the awesome work!
April, I LOVE this video! The ending with his response brought tears to my eyes...then to see you burning tires! LOL It's great to see how much you've grown over the past 5 years. By the way, great work. =)
HAHA I love this entire video, especially the reaction and doughnut shots. i need to get you together with my wife to abuse my cars and fix up my garage :p ! Great work as always, really enjoy your channel!
I came accross this video attempting to learn. I learned a few things, thank you for that! Another note, That's a heck of a surprise for the man!! Cheers to you two!
I found your vids recently. I'm a woman of an advanced age who wants to learn to do many improvements at my own home. Total newbie, though. I need to learn how to find studs on a wall. That newbie. lol However, I have to complement your videos with many others, since you, yourself, say you have never done many of these projects before. For instance, the part where you split the insulation to accommodate the wires. I'm not sure if that's how it's properly done and I'd be terrified of an electrical fire. But very helpful, nonetheless. How you explain the simplest things is very helpful to beginners.
Holy ****! You are awesome! I just found your videos today and you're doing all the stuff I want/need to do to my house, yard and garages! Have I mentioned you are awesome yet? Keep these videos coming! The donuts at the end were a perfect ending! When in doubt, throttle out!
Want to do this for my garage as well. This was such an easy video to watch; you made each step so clear. Also, looks like you had fun with it! Thanks, April!
I had OSB in my garage until a friend's garage burned down and the fire department told him if he'd had drywall instead of OSB on the walls they probably could have saved it.
OMG. I am going to follow your lead. I will be working in my garage and this looks great. I want to eliminate the dust from the sheetrock. Thank you for the inspiration.
I think if I went away on a business trip an whilst I was away my wife insulated the garage and added outlets and did donuts in my car I would sit on the floor of my garage and cry tears of pure happiness.

Hey Imabeapirate. Where would I be able to find fire codes for my region? Do they do it by state or like how is it distributed?
Little knowledge can be dangerous.

Good job April. Don't know why but I felt itchy the whole time I watched this..... :-)
I actually did pretty good not getting much on me! I did get some on my neck some how though, and was scratching it for most of the day.

but the doughnuts...

I’m 6 years late to the party. I’m in love with your videos!👏🏾👏🏾
I came accross this video attempting to learn. I learned a few things, thank you for that!
Another note, That's a heck of a surprise for the man!! Cheers to you two!
Great wife. Nicely done.
Perfect wife!
+Chris Matthes Exactly!! Wife goals man seriously!! I need to find something to build my husband haha
+Chris Matthes
Yeah. And she drinks beer?
+Tufillas
Why does everything have to be about alcohol? What difference would it make anyways if he/she doesn't drink alcohol?
I love girls drinking beer with responsability.
any problem, bro?
+Chris Matthes She a unicorn, at least an 8+ hot and a 4 to 5 crazy. Capture her so we can study her and try to replicate.
+April Wilkerson - what an AWESOME video!!! Great ending!!!! I'm sure your husband will forgive ya.
I found your vids recently. I'm a woman of an advanced age who wants to learn to do many improvements at my own home. Total newbie, though. I need to learn how to find studs on a wall. That newbie. lol
However, I have to complement your videos with many others, since you, yourself, say you have never done many of these projects before. For instance, the part where you split the insulation to accommodate the wires. I'm not sure if that's how it's properly done and I'd be terrified of an electrical fire. But very helpful, nonetheless. How you explain the simplest things is very helpful to beginners.
April. This is one of your best videos ever.
Great job! My concern is Not complying with Fire code without 2 hour rating drywall for garage, which is a fire source
Normally it is only the wall the is common to the house (for gas/fine and fire). The ones she redid were likely outside walls hence no insulation.
I shed a manly tear after watching this video...
Crazy how cheap everything was that long ago. Now it would be every bit $1000 to do that job
No kidding, I had to check the upload date on the video after that part.
April, you are incredible- brother you’re a lucky man! God bless you both!!!!
Only recently found your channel and am loving your attitude and approach 👍🏻
I'm hoping for a wife like this someday.
best video ending ever!!!!
where can we find a girl like you lol
Apparently, you start by being a guy like her husband.
Start By been a man!
@@commentatron start by having a vette.
At your local Walmart😂✌️
Somebody won't be leaving his keys behind anymore....
He had no other choice, she drove him to the airport. That was part of the plan. 😁
I had OSB in my garage until a friend's garage burned down and the fire department told him if he'd had drywall instead of OSB on the walls they probably could have saved it.
Ya that’s the reason why by code we’ve got to use five eights drywall for the fire blocking properties
Lucky guy!
You are a hard-working gutsy girl, that is not afraid to get your hands dirty.
Wonderful job !!
OMG. I am going to follow your lead. I will be working in my garage and this looks great. I want to eliminate the dust from the sheetrock. Thank you for the inspiration.
