  • Navigating the Waterways: A Tale of Boat Adventures
Embarking on a recent project, I acquired a petite boat with a rich history. Freshly pulled from the water and meticulously cleaned, this vessel captured my attention due to its abundance of fixtures and fittings - a treasure trove for my own boat.
Among the noteworthy components were stainless steel bars, nautical fixtures, and air vents, all nestled within an electrically wired interior. The decision was made to strip it down, remove the rigging, and sell the salvageable parts, including a complete rig with an a-frame and a set of quality sails.
Despite its potential, this boat, a Kingfisher of approximately fifty years, had seen better days. An outlaw bracket once adorned its back, but time and mishaps had taken their toll, leaving it in a somewhat melancholic state.
On a chilly January day in 2016, the journey began. The boat became a canvas for a restoration project, each detail unfolding with the changing seasons. From frosty mornings on the Norfolk Broads to navigating frozen rivers, the boat weathered the elements.
As the narrator shares the challenges of winter mooring and the beauty of frosty mornings, a vivid picture emerges. Exploring laden moorings and encountering a frozen river adds to the narrative, highlighting the unique experiences of living on a boat during the winter.
Navigating through time and weather, the boat journeyed to Norwich, revealing snippets of history along the way. A 700-year-old bridge marked the boundary between Norwich and Great Yarmouth, providing a glimpse into the region's rich past.
The narrator's detailed account continues through frosty mornings, maintenance tasks, and encounters with the unique climate of the Broads. The boat's journey unfolds as a blend of historical exploration and a personal quest for restoration.
The article weaves together the challenges of winter living on a boat with snippets of local history, offering readers a multifaceted view of life on the water. As the narrative shifts from freezing temperatures to the promise of warmer days, the boat becomes a symbol of resilience and adaptation.
In conclusion, this captivating journey on the waterways, filled with historical insights and personal anecdotes, paints a vivid picture of boat life in all its seasonal glory. #Norfolk #Broads

It sure looked like you had a very cold winter over there on the Broads. I saw what you said about a diesel heater, but what about a LPG heater. Anyway, it will be good to see your boat all nicely spruced up and the mast up where it belongs once more. Afterall, that is what sail boats are designed for and then surely it is time for the sail over to France. Good to see a nice longer video again Miles. Cheers

Just found your channel. You find the beauty in God forsaken frozen hell and solitude. Many nice still life shots that really capture mood of cold and loneliness. Ironically liberating. Thank you for sharing your experiences.

Hi Miles. I watch your channel with great enthusiasm as I used to
live near Great Yarmouth for over 12 years and I recognise a lot of the places
and Pubs etc. that you visit. I am coming up to Stalham in July with the family
to be one of the many tourists in a hire boat. (Un-like them I will have my day
skippers licence by then. fingers crossed.) We are hoping to get down through
to Great Yarmouth and then on down to Oulton Broad. If you are a round and I
see you I will introduce myself to you and hopefully buy you a drink. When are
you planning to go to France. I am taking my little Privateer across in August,
but I am only going for a few days unfortunately.
Last of all sorry to hear about your little dog. It was a
great age and you should be proud of that. fair winds and calm seas

Great insight into life on the Broads in the winter -- thanks. The French canals should be a real change of pace, that's for sure.

Enjoyed your video. I'm heading to Manchester tomorrow from the states and then driving to Sheffield to conduct business with the foundry. Unfortunately I won't have much time to wander about.

Nice to see the broads in the winter. I cant understand why you dont have a diesel-heater on board?

    • @SailingHighSeas
      @SailingHighSeas  8 ปีที่แล้ว

+Henrik Scheel They are not economical. Multi fuel stove is best but not satisfied with models I've discovered so far.

+High Seas - Liveaboard Vlog I've been keeping bio-ethanol on board for the cold nights, keeps the chill out and burns away in a tin can sat in a saucepan :-)
