I was just looking for a video so I can replace my leaking fork seals. For me this was short and sweet to the point of what I needed to do to remove the shocks on my 2017 Ultra Limited. There are plenty of other videos on how to rebuild the shocks. Just what I was looking for. Thank you
Hey Jerry glad it helped..this video was supposed to a lot better than it was but it was a very hectic day...if you ever need further fork videos check out my newest video on the fat tire build and just skip to the fork part...its much better.
I learned doing dirtbike forks seals, dont hesitate guys with a little mechanical knowledge its not bad, take pictures if you need for the correct order of things.
Let me know what you think guys....this project was a little over my head...haven't done a set before but it isnt all that bad. Thank goodness for good buddies willing to help out. Love the outcome.
haha million dollar question my friend. I did the 19 chrome enforcer last year and really thats all I had in my budget was a 19...the 21 almost doubles in price. We will be doing a 21 here shortly though...its in the works as we speak. Kind of wished I would have waited but the 19 chrome enforcer is still pretty nice.
Thanks man! Nah..I dont think willy has the 21. I wish he did. That 21 re-enforcer was made by mad wheels at one point and only chromed by sport chrome. I have one picked out from another dealer now...Ill have to sell this one in the forums or something to re coop some of my funds for the 21.
Great video. what is the measurement for putting the forks back on? there is no stop at the top of the fork tube. Where do i get that measurement please?
the top of the fork is sightly beveled. Push the fork through and a nickles width past the bevel. So when you're looking at it from the top you will see a nickels thickness of fork tube and the bevel.
12mm also watch this section of my fat tire build..its a better version of the fork swap video here. This link will start at the fork disassembly and then the fork rebuild th-cam.com/video/qTqp6nneq4Q/w-d-xo.html its on a road glide buts its the exact same thing. Aso here is the bit you'll need amzn.to/3pcEwmv
Very helpful video with rebuilding forks and using chrome sliders. Going to do the same to my 14 limited. Have you had any interest in the American suspension front air for these bikes? They’re saying just add air piston and cap and hook it in with rear air ride. Seems like there would be more to it. Curious if you have looked into this at all.
Thanks Ryan..I have looked into the air for the front and that is what I read as well. However I dont agree with just adding it to the air tank that is there. I think I would convert my crash bar to a tank as the rear shocks already use quite a bit of air to raise the bike...I would like the front to have its own air supply. Wish there was room for another tank on my bike but im not sure I would add it at this point.
This might be a long shot but I’m doing fork covers on a 2015 street glide and pulling out the dampener 2 little springs came out instead of 1 like I’m seeing in these how to videos. Anyone know where the other small spring goes?
Did you buy this bike used or have a progressive lowering kit installed in the past? the 2 small springs are usually included on a lowering kit..see this eBay listing and look at the picture of the side cut drawing. ebay.to/3LvcSK5 ..the middle pics show the 2 springs stacked on one another. If there are 2 equal size springs just stack them at the bottom if they came out of the bottom or one on top and one on the bottom depending on how they came out. I hope this helps you.
@@sikbaggers Was looking at changing oil for lesser of a dive when needing to nail brakes and not as harsh on bumps. Same for rear air shocks. Any recommendations on that?
I'm looking to take my slider tins off and up different ones on. Cant find any videos off doing just this. Can I with out taking the wheel off? Can I just loosen the triple tree and slide them up? Thanks
Thats not really a good idea...If you do that the entire thing comes out...both legs, wheel and all. You really should remove your front wheel...slide out one leg at a time and replace the slider can with the 2 bolts and then put the leg back on and do the other side. put your front wheel back on. The front wheel is really easy to pull.. Watch my video on the Fat tire kit, its on a road glide but its newer than this video and shows you step by step. Its way easier than fighting to get both legs and wheel all together back on your bike all at once. th-cam.com/video/qTqp6nneq4Q/w-d-xo.html
I want to do this to my 2014 Road king so I have a few questions. Is it the same for a 2014 Road King, without the fairing? Is it just the 3 pinch bolts still that I need to worry about to take off the forks? Also Do I need to disassemble my whole headlight/passing lamp assembly? or can I get away with doing this without taking my headlights apart? Thanks in advance.
Yes the RK is the same as the SG or the RG with a lot less work involved on getting the forks out. I wouldnt think you would need to remove your headlight for the forks. Its pretty straight forward.
i appreciate the video. Being as there are not really any videos showing the disassembly and reassembly of the fork legs on '14 and up streetglides. BUT it would be a much more useful video to someone like me that has used a number of them to tackle my own bike successfully if you would have ditched the useless background music and a little more close-up video and explanation of the parts you are removing and how to re-install them. Thankfully though it because of guys like you posting such vids that it has saved me from handing ridiculous amounts of money to Harley to install parts that a mechanically inclined person such as myself could install on my own.
Yeah man ...sorry. During the shooting of the video we didnt realize the mic was left off when we were pulling these . I made the best video I could with what I had. Also adding the images straight from the service manual to help with the parts. If you like doing your own work but need some guidance as I do sometimes....the best thing I got when I got this sled was this service manual from ebay. www.ebay.com/itm/2014-Harley-Touring-Service-Manual-Repair-with-Electrical-Diag-and-Parts-CD/142054589944?epid=536111011&hash=item21131d05f8:g:2RsAAOSw1DtXHomq this guy will send you an instant email with a PDF file you can download and will also send you a disk in the mail. hey Steven. Thanks for the video. If I buy the legends front suspension can I just use these new fork legs to build the front end and just swap that with the stock ones? Instead of taking everything apart.
did you even set your "sag" didn't see that in your video. And if you loosen the dampener tube bolt first spring pressure will stop the dampener from spinning in the tube. I have Ricochrome as well, good stuff

I’m thinking of doing this next month. Does your bike have anti lock breaks? The dealer made it sound like there was some sort of extra work involved in order to accomplish this task...
no my bike doesnt have ABS....the only difference I would see is the abs sensor when taking the wheel off. Its like a wheel spacer. Not sure there would be much difference other than that.
hey Chris...fork height can be measured from the top...where the fork sticks through the triple tree...before you pull them you can mark them or mark them with tape...marks sometimes get wiped off while doing everything else. About a 1/4 is sticking out of the top off mine...I have seen guys drop them all the way in to the handle bars just to lower the front end some. the fork lowers turn inside the fork top freely...so they will line themselves out when you install the front fender or wheel. Hello how much oil must i put in the 2 forks my street Glide is from 2020 thanks Gr
slightly less than 24 oz.....if you have fully let them drain and pump out all of the old stuff.
Same procedure for 2015 Ultra Limited? I am looking to just change oil at my 27000 miles. Recommended to go to a little thicker viscosity oil?
yes same size forks on the 15....and no need ot go thicker unless you are lowering the bike...then you can use Screamin' Eagle Performance Fork Oil
