From what I gathered as a prospective PS4 owner, PS4 Slim is the way to go. The Slim appears to be cheaper made compared to the standard PS4, has an upgraded wifi, easy to replace HDD, and less heat/noise. Anything I am missing?

The design doesn't really bother me because I'm not gonna be looking at the system most of the time, and I don't use any expensive headsets, the $30 earbuds I have are good enough, so I'm going to be getting this for 5 reasons, 1: It's quieter, everytime I play on my old one it gets so loud that I hold my breath hoping it won't shut off by itself again (I cleaned the fan but still no improvement). 2: Better Wi-Fi, my internet connection isn't the fastest but it still gets the job done, hopefully this will have more stable connection with faster download speeds. 3: 1TB of memory (whenever it releases), I know I can do it my self but having 1TB of memory already with the system is great and referring back to my 1st reason the chances of my data getting corrupted are greatly reduced, I might even get a 2TB if I need to. 4: It's lighter and more portable, I like being able to pack everything up and just play it wherever I can (remote play is a lifesaver, maybe 5Ghz will improve that). 5: It's affordable, playing games which require time like Fallout 4 and Farcry 4 on a "family owned system" really turns me away from games like that because I'll be lucky to have at least 3 hours to myself. Now all I gotta do is save some money and I'll be good to go ^_^

i have both and i have to say that Yes the og ps4 is the better looking of the 2 but the slim is the best console of the 2,it is a lot smaller and lighter,almost silent while the fan on the og ps4 is kinda noisy,like i don't know how Sony manage to make the ps4 slim much smaller and cooler really a great job!!!!,1TB instead of 500gb on the og ps4,and the best upgrade is in the wifi it now supports ac band at 5ghz,i have had a lot of problems with my og ps4 because of losing connection to the network,kicking me out of multiplayer games,losing my progress,etc...was really annoying but none of that happens with the slim and i know the cpu is the same on both but the slim feels faster,all of that sold me on the slim and for everyone saying the build quality is crap on the slim let me tell you you are wrong,yes it looks cheaper than the og but is solid built.

Having MAJOR issues with my standard PS4. Mainly with the eject button. It's stuck in a never ending cycle of disc ejecting. I took very good care of it, just started happening one morning for no reason. I've tried every fix I could find. I've even torn off the rubber piece on the bottom. I wanted to wait for the PS4 pro, but my PS4 is currently unplayable as I use discs... also all it does is beep, every second. So I'm thinking the slim is my best option. Unless I wait a couple months, but I play everyday. And also don't own a 4K tv

I would rather have the slim because the originals fan is so loud, you play games for atleast an hour it's going to be loud, I guarantee that you will get super annoyed after hearing the loud fan from the original. The slim is much quieter than both the ps4 and ps4 pro. Ps4 pro is a little bit quieter than the original too but not as much as the slim at all.
The Ps4 Slim version is also much faster to load, runs very quietly, and does not collect so much dust, the only thing better on the other versions is the not so fast hot, but I do not care, I play not synonymous so long

PS4 Slim bundled with Uncharted 4 and a $25 Gamestop card for $249.99 vs the $280~$299.99 price of the original PS4 if still found in store. The PS4 Slim is quieter than the original PS4, less power consumption, and it has better WiFi capabilities by supporting 5ghz WiFi. Sure the case build quality is worse, but unless you are packing the console with you everywhere you go, that shouldn't be a problem. If you actually want a better build, go with the PS4 Pro as it actually has better specs, more hard drive storage, and will future proof you for games made to work with 4K Ultra HD. Sadly the Pro will set you back $399.99 without any gift card or game included.
I see a number of people (collectors I'm guessing?) complain about the lack of difference in the two consoles, but that's really not the point of these budget consoles. I haven't picked up a PS4 yet because of the price (note: I'm in Canada and the Canadian dollar sucks), but I was relieved that the slim console came with a significant price drop, and I can now fit it in to my budget. I couldn't care less if it's not as sleek looking as the original.

The standard PS4 sounds like a jet even after a clean and new thermal paste done lasts a few days then back to a jet iv never had this problem with my slim
Mine too, I've just picked up a brand-new PS4 slim with RDR2 for £250. Consoles straight off the assembly line seem to fk up more than others because they're brand-new and they're the first generation ones.

The PS4 PRO is a "remaster" of the original, giving us hardware that should've been out on Launch. Seriously, the PS4 PRO is a *REAL* upgrade from PS3. The PS4 in terms of hardware both CPU and GPU is about the same as the GameCube and Wii.......... *very minimal change!* 😑 Games on the PS4 can run on the PS3 just fine, all they needed to do was dumb down the resolution from "900p" ...< And keep in mind both the PS3 and PS4 are both native 1080p Consoles, so the resolution stay the same for both 7th and Early 8th Gen until the Pro Model was released!
I know people tend to look over this but it also uses less power, so creates less heat. Which means that it needs less cooling. Which makes it nicer if you life in a silent neighborhood. It uses 50% less power or about that and that has quite an effect. And yes before you ask, does gamer care about power usage? Well what if you use it for netflix 4k? or watch a blu-ray and have a relative silent scene in a movie.
I use external surround so for me the new one is better with it being smaller and more efficient as well as doing everything else the same as the original, but yes i agree for some it could be a downgrade but for most it is an upgrade.(most don't use optical)
Same thing with the Original PS2 being much much nicer and well built as compared to the Slim PS2. Slims are always more compact, convenient, and sleeker in design but the durability and built is a different story.

Actually, there are five different versions of the PS4. Three of them are just basically the original, a revised version of the original, and a further revised version with a matte hard drive cover. Then there is the PS4 slim and the PS4 Pro. But I suppose the original and its revisions can be considered the original.
one difference about the PS4 Slim then original PS4, is that the PS4 Slim support dual band wireless and can use 5G Wi-Fi. where is the original only supports 2.4. PS4 Slim and PS4 Pro also support HDR (High dynamic range) for those fancy tvs .where the original PS4 does not. I have the original and the slim and I noticed these differences.
But it's not even an upgrade lol. It's the same as the original PS4, just uglier and a bit quieter. Hell even the pro isn't much of an upgrade and definetaly not worth paying extra 100€ to get it when you already own the OG PS4.

I love the First Gen PS4 design, just like the PS3, the first design is just so powerful and sleek. The later designs seem to "kids toy" plastic, and lack of Fiber optic connection is a big fail. I will not be upgrading until PS4 Elite or PSV or PS5, what ever they call it.

I don't understand why everyone says the new slim is cheap looking and feel. The big PS4 was cheap feeling plastic also, except they put some cheap shiny plastic section on it. The slim looks like have the same plastic texture as the original. It's a $300 device, I wouldn't expect excellent material out of it. The original PS3 was the highest aesthetics quality PlayStation, probably console ever, but that was $600 and at those times when Sony was losing money making the consoles. If I remember it was around $8-900 each for Sony to manufacture. For the PS4, they didn't built a device that lost money on, probably a very small margin initially, but hundreds of dollars. It was at cost or profit per console.
It's so much better it's dead quiet but I got broadband internet now and the other PS4 couldn't run speeds close to that fast just high speed so now I'm on wifi running at 160 to 175 mbps huge good upgrade
The slims are sold cheaper, so you need to bring down the manufactering costs as well.. Hence the cheap looking plastic, and smaller form factor. Less plastic = smaller box= less weight = saving more money per console.
The slim has faster WiFi and is significantly quieter and draws way less power

I took very good care of it, just started happening one morning for no reason. I've tried every fix I could find. I've even torn off the rubber piece on the bottom. I wanted to wait for the PS4 pro, but my PS4 is currently unplayable as I use discs... also all it does is beep, every second. So I'm thinking the slim is my best option. Unless I wait a couple months, but I play everyday. And also don't own a 4K tv

I think it'd be best to wait for the ps4 pro though. Games will still look better on it whether you have a 4K TV or not

I would rather have the slim because the originals fan is so loud, you play games for atleast an hour it's going to be loud, I guarantee that you will get super annoyed after hearing the loud fan from the original. The slim is much quieter than both the ps4 and ps4 pro. Ps4 pro is a little bit quieter than the original too but not as much as the slim at all.
This made me realize how ugly the original ps4 was. And the original Xbox One as well, glad they came out with the updated designs for both
The Ps4 Slim version is also much faster to load, runs very quietly, and does not collect so much dust, the only thing better on the other versions is the not so fast hot, but I do not care, I play not synonymous so long

PS4 Slim bundled with Uncharted 4 and a $25 Gamestop card for $249.99 vs the $280~$299.99 price of the original PS4 if still found in store. The PS4 Slim is quieter than the original PS4, less power consumption, and it has better WiFi capabilities by supporting 5ghz WiFi. Sure the case build quality is worse, but unless you are packing the console with you everywhere you go, that shouldn't be a problem.
If you actually want a better build, go with the PS4 Pro as it actually has better specs, more hard drive storage, and will future proof you for games made to work with 4K Ultra HD. Sadly the Pro will set you back $399.99 without any gift card or game included.

I see a number of people (collectors I'm guessing?) complain about the lack of difference in the two consoles, but that's really not the point of these budget consoles. I haven't picked up a PS4 yet because of the price (note: I'm in Canada and the Canadian dollar sucks), but I was relieved that the slim console came with a significant price drop, and I can now fit it in to my budget. I couldn't care less if it's not as sleek looking as the original.

The standard PS4 sounds like a jet even after a clean and new thermal paste done lasts a few days then back to a jet iv never had this problem with my slim
Mine too, I've just picked up a brand-new PS4 slim with RDR2 for £250. Consoles straight off the assembly line seem to fk up more than others because they're brand-new and they're the first generation ones.

The PS4 PRO is a "remaster" of the original, giving us hardware that should've been out on Launch. Seriously, the PS4 PRO is a *REAL* upgrade from PS3. The PS4 in terms of hardware both CPU and GPU is about the same as the GameCube and Wii.......... *very minimal change!* 😑
Games on the PS4 can run on the PS3 just fine, all they needed to do was dumb down the resolution from "900p" ...<
And keep in mind both the PS3 and PS4 are both native 1080p Consoles, so the resolution stay the same for both 7th and Early 8th Gen until the Pro Model was released!

I know people tend to look over this but it also uses less power, so creates less heat. Which means that it needs less cooling. Which makes it nicer if you life in a silent neighborhood.

I use external surround so for me the new one is better with it being smaller and more efficient as well as doing everything else the same as the original, but yes i agree for some it could be a downgrade but for most it is an upgrade.(most don't use optical)
Sony also messed up the Ps3 (my oppinion)..I mean the Regular Ps3 was much nicer than the Ps3 slim..
Same thing with the Original PS2 being much much nicer and well built as compared to the Slim PS2. Slims are always more compact, convenient, and sleeker in design but the durability and built is a different story.

Actually, there are five different versions of the PS4. Three of them are just basically the original, a revised version of the original, and a further revised version with a matte hard drive cover. Then there is the PS4 slim and the PS4 Pro. But I suppose the original and its revisions can be considered the original.
Ps4 slim has more performance it is new and the OG ps4 is more decorative but nor really performing much more

one difference about the PS4 Slim then original PS4, is that the PS4 Slim support dual band wireless and can use 5G Wi-Fi. where is the original only supports 2.4. PS4 Slim and PS4 Pro also support HDR (High dynamic range) for those fancy tvs .where the original PS4 does not. I have the original and the slim and I noticed these differences.

I love the First Gen PS4 design, just like the PS3, the first design is just so powerful and sleek. The later designs seem to "kids toy" plastic, and lack of Fiber optic connection is a big fail. I will not be upgrading until PS4 Elite or PSV or PS5, what ever they call it.

I don't understand why everyone says the new slim is cheap looking and feel. The big PS4 was cheap feeling plastic also, except they put some cheap shiny plastic section on it. The slim looks like have the same plastic texture as the original. It's a $300 device, I wouldn't expect excellent material out of it.
The original PS3 was the highest aesthetics quality PlayStation, probably console ever, but that was $600 and at those times when Sony was losing money making the consoles. If I remember it was around $8-900 each for Sony to manufacture. For the PS4, they didn't built a device that lost money on, probably a very small margin initially, but hundreds of dollars. It was at cost or profit per console.

The slims are sold cheaper, so you need to bring down the manufactering costs as well.. Hence the cheap looking plastic, and smaller form factor. Less plastic = smaller box= less weight = saving more money per console.
