  • Luis Maria, the owner of Lucky Repairs, shows us how to clean and repair a dust-clogged PlayStation 4. He cleans it by disassembling it piece by piece, detailing every crevice. Over the years and with frequent use, the inside of a PlayStation can collect layers of dust. This dust can restrict essential airflow that is essential to cool the system down while it's running a powerful game.

I literally followed you step by step, I was so scared but I took the time. Cleaned everything so well and my ps4 is quiet and looking brand new ! Thank you so much !
    Noob tips:
-Buy thermal paste before you start.
-Take your time, it took me 3 full hours, I went uber slow.
-Be gentle, no need to force anything.
-Use different bowls to put your screws in for your different stages.
-Missing a screw will not be the end of the world, dont panic.
    - A tiny automatic screwdriver is a treat, but make sure its not powerful.

@@haroldinodeleonskie1578 No, but it's VERY important. When making the laptop, the manufacturers use very cheap thermal paste, which dries up very quickly and creates an air pocket between the paste and the CPU, which can lead to the CPU overheating.

      (0,5, 1,0 or 1,5mm ?)

    Post-apocalyptic PS4.
Never had problems with my PS4, but my PS5 begun shutting off on its own. So I opened and cleaned it, the dust was minimal and there was some clogging on the radiator blades, so I blew that away, got some fans for the back to suck air out faster, and now it doesn't turn off. PS5s are pretty sensitive to dust and debry. They are on the edge of overheating when playing big PS5 titles, so it is a delicate balance.

@@dericjames2018 With the fans on the back the exhaust doesn't go over 60°C which seems to be the red zone. I have a thermo probe on the exhaust since day-1 (I use to have it on the PS4) just because. And it ended helping me understand the red signals when my PS5 was about to go off hard. If the air where the cables connect is over 60 degrees for over 20 minutes or keeps rising it will go off any moment. With the light cleaning and the fans pulling the hot air out now it doesn't go over 55°C even during hot days and very long play sessions. PS4 games never push it over 45 during 32°C days.

I may have at least two small containers for 1. big-black-long (hmm everything reminds me of him) and 2. small-short-white/silver. Then map screw position in 3D space. Instead disassemble it quickly, examine and understand how and why part are joint together. 'does long screw a part that have cavity.?' does bigger screws are meant to support structure'. A friend of mine organizes everything by literally placing the screws on a magnetic plate in the same location (if there are three screws that go in the top left corner he places them in that same way on his plates) that they'd be on whatever component you're working on. I tried it and it works for me.

I noticed twice that when cleaning the blades of the heat sink you went against the grain. Is it not better to go with so you can go deeper ( in between the blades) and won't accidentally bend or dent the blades.

Those blades are thick. You'd need to apply serious force to warp them

I’m about to dissect my 9yo og ps4 i got in 2014. I dunno if it’ll look like this but I wouldn’t be surprised. I feel like I’m about to go on a dusty adventure. Wish me luck!

@kamal akioud Some consoles can actually be pretty clean even owner have not never opened them. I have not never open mine but i have used vacuum cleaner and canned air together to try to suck any dust out of there.

Like wise, I've had mine since about a month-ish after Bloodborne (early 2014) came out, I've not cleaned the inside of it and honestly I'm scared to take it apart.

Cleaned up mine I bought second hand and my god it whirred so loud and metal parts of the cables plugged in were hot. When removing some dust balls, it looked so dark like it was burned. A fan shaped paint brush saved me a great deal of time with much of the areas and my PS4 runs quiet as a mouse now.
All of that dead skin cells and dirt freed ❤ I’ll also keep in mind the small roach note

little tips for you so next time you do a console you can put the parts who don't have electronic, in water to clean them but be very careful before putting together make sure that he do not have water left.

I have to pull mine apart and I have a feeling it's gonna looks similar to that. Or at least be kinda bad. Both me and my girlfriend are smokers and we got three cats that shed. So I'm constantly wiping dust from the sides and top of my PlayStation.... I thought it was a bit more of a delicate process. I was afraid I'd break it or something. But this seems fairly straightforward. So I'm going to give in a shot in a couple hours and we'll see what happens. Only problem is that I don't have thermal paste and I don't have the compressed air. So it's probably going to take me a bit longer to clean mine.
