Shows like Batman, Superman, Static Shock, Ben 10 Alien Force, Teen Titans, Young Justice and Generator Rex were some of the best shows of all time. The fact they weren't just silly cartoons, but instead had deep, mature and gripping story arcs, made them so enthralling.
The animated series were very pivotal for me becoming a fan of superhero adaptations. In general, the animated content was a treasure, it just went so far over the heads of Hollywood back then it seemed like they really didn't get it. The talent for writing good stories was there instead they just gave animation the brush off entirely thinking it was just for kids, but the older fans who were watching the cartoons at the time just knew that their medium being mostly ignored in the live-action films was a big mistake.
@@rondorock2563 absolutely 🙌🙌, the Story telling in those early animated shows was elite. Justice league was able to tell stories about obscure characters and made it feel natural. Those shows are the reason I love super heroes. Without them I don’t think I’d be as big of fan as I am.
As much as I love cartoons, I think it was more about how DC literally used this successful blueprint, but didn't apply it to live action, thinking it worked differently. I bet people in Warner just doesn't respect those handling the cartoons to listen to their advice.
@@Electronica27 your completely right I’m saying that the reason those cartoons were so great was because of the universe structure they created and also the story telling. Which was largely created by the structure.
Literally when Matt mentioned cartoons and showed the iconic heroes that I GREW UP WITH, I celebrated as if we won a war. FINALLY, someone understands and is willing to make their voice heard! These cartoons (Justice League, Justice League Unlimited; movies like Justice League: War and Justice League: Dark; these movies PROPELLED me into becoming a DC fan. I grew up with that version of DC, and it would literally mean everything to relive those days
RIP Kevin Conroy. I grew up with the entire DCAU because my dad grew up with it. I could write several essays on why they are the best versions of the storys told, and how they did such a great job, but it'd be easier to tell you to go watch them yourself. It's all a work of art
I will never forgive myself for not knowing Kevin Conroy up until 3 months before his death. I mean, I watch cartoons that are rated PG and under, I had no excuse for nothing giving BTAS a go before. Now that I know, I want to make sure my dream Batfamily series pays him tribute in the best way possible, a tribute that honors his legacy by uniting everyone. He wasn't just A Batman, he was THE Batman, but he wasn't alone. He didn't have to be. Kevin Conroy may be gone, but his legacy as THE Batman is forever ingrained in our memory, and we must do our best to honor him together. Repeat after me: we are Vengeance, we are the Knight, WE..ARE ALL..BATMAN....

Animated stuff still does not do well in theaters, unless specifically targeting a younger audience. People in the US still have the false impression that animated means cartoons and thus is for kids. One of the reasons I used to love watching animated super hero stuff growing up was because not all the stories were just for kids. The story moment that stood out most to me growing up was when Darkseid came to metropolis and eventually forced to leave, but before leaving, he killed someone in front of Superman and then left before Superman could do anything about it. I remember Superman losing it an destroying a car because he failed to save someone. Stories like that prove that animated does not have to be just for kids and I wished more animated movies were released in theaters like that.
How will you never understand lol. In this day and age comic book movies excel in live action. DC has had a good amount of films that have done amazing in theaters as live action. To say you’ll never understand why is just kinda like, really?
The DCAU was such a gift. I loved those shows growing up. They still hold up pretty well even twenty-thirty years later. It should not be difficult to create a viable live-action film franchise with these characters.
If WB were smart, they would make a mainstream animated feature-film universe. Spiderverse succeeded for Sony & it would distinguish them from the failing MCU.
I’m a DC purist at all costs and tend to be a bit of a snob when it comes to others’ opinions on DC honestly, but Matt has NAILED IT HERE! Never have I heard anyone understand DC better and have a better plan for actually making it successful!

@@undeadtrooper13 So that's why he was/is still in season 3? As fan of books I didn't even finished second season so if he really cared he would left franchise long time ago or didn't even played, I wasn't even big fan of season 1 also (mostly because of changes). Also for season 1 he got 800k$ per episode, for S2 he got even more 1m$ per episode which is more than GoT cast was earning and the end of series. So we can easily imagine for season 3 he earned even more. So there is possibility during negotiations for season 4 he wanted so much money Netflix didn't/couldn't pay (I don't judge him for wanting more) and Liam Hemsworth is much much cheaper actor. So during (or before) season 4 "negotiations" very likely Amazon contacted Henry and offered him much better deal (lead actor + producer) and Amazon can literally afford any price. Additionally as producer he has more control under production (casting etc) so taking this deal was no brainer + he was warhammer fan longer than witcher. And in the end contracts can't be done that fast aspecialy for "actor + producer", so Henry and Amazon definitely were talking months in advance before he officially left The Witcher.

@@nieznajomy4398 Cavill would have happily done 7 seasons of the show, but the writers went so far off track with season 2, and I can only imagine how bad it'll be with season 3. Cavill was dedicated to doing the witcher justice in a proper tv adaptation, the writers wouldn't have it and Cavill repeatedly tried to have things changed through out season 2, roach died and the writers were gonna try to make it funny in some way, but Cavill fought for it to be changed to something a bit more somber which is what we got. Cavill would've been happy to take a pay cut as long as the writers stuck to the books, but they didn't, so Cavill is out now, and hopefully his warhammer project goes well while the witcher series crashes and burns for losing it's star because they couldn't stick to an already established story.
"Respect the source material" is something I've been pushing for, and I'm sure others do too. I can't not think of a series getting an adaptation in which the creators just simply DGAF with what they were given to produce, and then yell at the fans as if it's the fans fault for not supporting their "vision".
One question though: is it okay to rewrite a character's origin if it feels off? What if a character is beloved to you, but you feel that the story is terrible? That's how I feel I would write obscure characters: the character is great, the potential is there, but the story is either outdated or doesn't ring true to the character's core values and personality, so it's best to either axe them completely or rewrite their story in a way that makes sense and lives up to the themes of the character. Why not?

To some extent, Harry Potter too, there were so many details and little subplots in the books that weren't in the movie, and the movies completely wrecked Ron
Animated series tend to have less glory, and thus only attract the real fans. I didn't understand this until I started watching star wars the clone wars. How that show was so much better then the sequel trilogy, baffling.
That’s unfortunately the reality of animation outside of Disney and Pixar though. Animation is stuck in the stigma that it’s only for kids outside of a select few adult swim properties; so they never get recognition past comedic :(
@@megarotom1590 I think it’s also a quality thing. Eastern animation has become so popular because it tells consistently mature stories with well written characters and extremely varied genres. Something like My Hero Academia I think shows the problem with some western animation. Serialized series where every episode is important and the story is always moving forward are much more interesting and anime is great at that. I like Young Justice but it’s just not as interesting as something like My Hero

Those cartoons were so great! The contrast between Superman/Metropolis and Batman/Gotham was incredible. They also made me think that Metropolis was West Coast while Gotham was East with Central City hiding around Kansas City. It kept those main heavy hitters apart and probably confused a large audience when the DCEU had Gotham and Metropolis literally within sight of each other. AND THEN somehow Superman never ventured into Gotham even though his powers make him a global persona and Batman would already have figured out Sup's identity. B vs S was rough but I grew to like the Snyder cut. Hopefully when Darkseid shows his rebooted face he looks more menacing than the gray grampa look.
I've been saying that the DCEU should've followed the DCAU ever since Batman vs Superman and its insane how it seems so obvious to follow and use as a general outline for all the generations yet they just mashed things together. It's infuriating how easy it was
Speaking as someone who loves to write, this is honestly really good advice you're giving out. I know a great many people might think it SOUNDS dumb to not have a plan (if the fan reception to the New Star Wars Trilogy is any indication), but, honestly, not having a plan doesn't restrict you creatively; I do still stress the importance of good note-taking, but basically just don't overthink how your story is gonna go: it frees up room to do what you want, when you want, how you want, where you want, why you want with your characters and the world they're in. I'm not a professional writer, though, so take my advice with a grain of salt. ;)
I find that that's true with so many creative professions. In everything that has editing in its process like stories and design, for example, it's so important to know the basic outline of what will happen but one, figure out the details as we go and two, never be afraid to try something new.
Now that is an advice I wish I had. I've been working on a new book for a while now, and in my mind I had completely mapped out the story despite knowing that I tend to bring good ideas when I go with the flow. But this video and your comment reminded me that I don't need to map out my world that extensively. Thank you for that.
I have always been a fan of the story bible. That way you have liberty to be creative, but you dont go against characters basic personalities. i will also say, when it comes to a franchise as large as Star Wars, I am very surprised that they didnt have it all planned out to the decimal point. I guess some people thought the property was too big to fail.
@@doro626 Yeah, that's a solid suggestion, yeah. A lot of famed authors swear by the story bible. I recall reading somewhere that gave this gem of advice: "planning out the story bible should not be more important than simply writing the story". Basically what I've been saying: don't overthink things, just roll with it. Keep things consistent, absolutely, but don't overthink things. You don't want to back yourself in to a creative corner and give up on the project because keeping the momentum going is too daunting a task. :/ Funny that, Star Wars was plagued with problems since the beginning; it's amazing this single film got a franchise, and even got off the ground, on account of how much went wrong even before filming started. For instance, George Lucas was very much an idea man, but he wasn't much of a writer, so he got the help of a ghostwriter to weave his ideas together: Alan Dean Foster. Fun fact, in an interview, he was asked if he ever felt bitter about George Lucas taking all the credit, to which he responded "not at all": I won't lie, I respect that, as I feel most people would be.
I'm glad that this is the advice that Mat mentions when it comes to mapping out a story larger than a single movie, book or whatever because I'm currently going through this "note-taking", "go with the flow", "not restricting creativity" process with my OCs. I have them in my head, I know I'd like them to crossover in some way (I have a very heavily influenced superhero comic book crossover type universe, like Marvel), I have the basics for the universe they live in, but stuff like they're origin stories, character arcs, how exactly they'll crossover, or what type of media I'll introduce them in is up in the air but still being thought of in the back of my head, and I can come up with may different iterations of each of those aspects I've mentioned and go with it. Since, I've had these characters and this universe for over 2 years now, I've gotten used to feeling free to change characters names, which is really something I'd usually not be comfortable with (also a good 99% of my OCs don't have names, so as I develop them more I'll be to narrow down a name that actually makes sense for each of them).
I’ve been getting through the DCAU for the past year or two now and I love the pacing the cameos the way they do events and characters it’s so amazing to see how 20-30 years ago they had could make such awesome meaningful pieces of art that connect in such intricate ways
I love how much work matpat puts into his videos. The video must have been finished already but instead of just posting it as it is, he writes an other script just so he can summarize all information for the audience to watch as a whole. Thank you so much for the efford.
When Matpat talks about the Guantlet at 17:35, it being a fake of a quantlet that hadn't existed yet still makes sense, it was in Odin's private vault and Odin is known for being a guy who can see into the future (which in Norse mythos is to try and prevent ragnorok) so Odin, thinking it was cool, had a fake made before the real thing existed, probably an ego thing
Finally a mainstream channel that talks about the perfection that is DCAU! As a longtime DC fan I feel like a broken record for saying this again and again, even back when Man of Steel had yet to come, but DCAU, Teen Titans and Young Justice are literally the perfect blueprint for DC to go with. I just hope that James Gunn realizes that - but with the exciting slate he's shown us, I feel more hopeful than ever
Glad to see I wasn't crazy for yelling this in my head for so many years. The animated shows/movies were gold and needed to just make those. I felt Weadon's Justice League (despite its many flaws) was closest to hitting this, which is why I kind of liked it on its initial release.

The DCAU will forever hold its place among the best adaptations of all time. Also, the Batman Superman Movie: World's Finest was such a great introduction of the two mainstays of the universe. Really should've tried to expand on that story instead of what they gave us in BvS...
I love the DCAU so much. I think Batman: The Animated Series will be the best cartoon for all of time in my eyes. I really hope they don’t ruin Booster Gold in the new show.
Your description of Superman is exactly how I feel about the character. Let’s hope they get an actor who can bring the type of charisma Christopher Reeve had. I’d love a smart, hopeful and empathetic man of steel.
The green lantern cartoon are epic. For example green lantern emerald night can make about ten full length movies from its collection of stories, starting from the history of the lanterns to the first construct.etc etc!
Honestly, DC as a whole needs to give more attention to the Lantern Corps as a whole. The "flagship" corps are the Green Lanterns, but I want to read more stories about the Blue Lanterns, or the Indigo Tribe, or the Star Sapphire Corps to flesh them out and give them more depth.
also young justice was SUCH a good show that was part of the DCAU. it's been put on the back burner recently, but they were setting up a Jason Todd comeback and a Supergirl intro and I was so excited for it
Going back to watch the cartoons is something they did quite a few times. at least with batman. Several of the best batman ideas ever had came from the batman cartoon.
I actually respect the fact that MatPat didn't toss out the effort and capital put into this video, and just adapted it to shift with the news, making the video more of a compare/contrast prediction video instead
Here is more optimistic perspective on the situation. I was initially hesitant but I honestly think this is a pretty sick slate! I love that James Gunn goes out of his way to give massive credit to the comics that inspired his stories, something not many creatives do. He also has a nice balance of big-hitting well-knowns and unknowns who haven’t been adapted to death, are ripe with potential, and deserve more attention. Overall, James Gunn’s announced projects se pretty cool and I can't wait to see these characters come to life!
I mean Zack Snyder did kind of give credit as well like pointing out Frank Miller; But I don't know how he read it. He literally used it as a basis to point out why his Batman kills, but in that same comic Batman literally breaks a gun in half and calls it a coward's weapon. But him saying something like "Tom King's run on Supergirl was my favorite comicbook last year", really gives off the vibes that he does love and read comics.
The whole "liking the source material" angle is why I was initially suspicious of Star Trek (2009), and my fears proved true. A few days before the movie came out, I saw an interview where J.J. Abrams said he never really liked the original Star Trek, as it was "too cerebral" for him, and that he was more of a Star Wars fan. It was then that I knew we were in trouble.
I swear, hearing Matpat say “Booster Gold” nearly gave me a heart attack. I have this intense disliking of Booster Gold, and I just don’t know why, but it’s there.
Static shock was such a fun animated series, me and my brother loved singing the intro and using random objects as his disc. If Virgil makes it into the universe I hope they do him right.

Mat, there is another animated universe that is super interconnected that would also make for a good road map. It’s called Young Justice which even James Gunn name dropped when he was talking about his plan
The dc animated film universe also has some interesting points that would make a great comeback for the live action versions. Like the flashpoint paradox and justice league dark, there is a lot of potential that those films have, and a lot more lore that may be hidden between the lines. Matt I think this would also be a pretty decent topic for a video as well and it would really shed some light on those movies too

Just hearing that one of the series ideas is titled Waller has me excited. Amanda Waller is constantly seen as an antagonist to overcome in the Suicide Squad films (both live action and animated), but the drawback is that her character isn't fleshed out in favor of whoever is on the team this time. As the only character guaranteed to be present in the franchise every time, I like the idea that she can finally be the focus, maybe with a rotating cast of villains under her command. Also gives DC a chance to float villains to the audience and see who might be worth a film down the line.
I can imagine the effort that went into editing this video with two different audio tracks from different times, but it really does make for a brilliant video and glad you took the time to do it 👍
I am blown away that you can explain the plots and themes of Man of Steel and BvS exactly while missing that is what the movies were about. The biggest points of those two films were literally an exploration of the trolley problem and the consequences of that being explored, which is what you said you wanted here. It's practically a genre now where people on the internet say they dont like the story Snyder told, explain exactly what they want, and it's just exactly what Snyder already did.
This is what makes One Piece have such good world building. Oda definitely has the story planned out, but still leaves plenty of room to make the changes he wants
1:15 THANK YOU, Somebody FINALLY SAID IT. The Joker was just NOT necessary to The Batman. That should've either been Hush, Scarecrow, or Freeze, all of which fit into the Narrative of being a Hero instead of a Fear. Hush would make him question if he's even cut out to be a Hero, Scarecrow would show the effectiveness of Fear, and fills the Void Batman Left, Freeze would leave Batman in a Dilemma, what makes him a Hero? Taking down Freeze, or Saving him and Nora? All of which, work better than "HAHA Clown guy makes SALES!" Yep! A comic book movie universe can benefit greatly from animation given it can be used to bridge the caps in-between movies, introduce characters who aren't planned to appear in the movies, and even dwelve into certain characters and their origins. Plus, it will be less money, and all you need to do is hire the actors to voice the characters they play.
6:25 Well said, I didn't mind that Superman killed Zod or large chunks of the city were destroyed. It's that they didn't delve into that enough. That should carry some serious trauma. Also well said about making sure the story fits the character. I've seen far too many people who really don't want to be working on these projects. They'd rather be telling other stories. So they change it to whatever they'd really like to be working on.
What really stood out for me are the Injustice Games stories. Those really made be a DC Fan in the first place. I would love to have that as in live-action films. Point #5 is something anyone who has DM a DnD game has to know. You plan to far ahead, but you know your players will always find something diferent to do and you will be scrambring to improvice the new story when your rogue decided to put his portable hole into his bag of holding...
I was born in 1993 and I loved the DC animated shows. I never got to watch everything but when I did get to see an episode of any of them I was excited for it.
Point 5 is the same thing with running a D&D style campaign. As a DM, you want to have an idea where the story is gonna go but you have to let your players (or audience) show you what they like and let that influence the overall story. When the DM and players (studio and audience) create the story together, the result is far more enjoyable for all involved.
That catchphrase would do so good to inspire the next generation of Batmen. If our Batfamily were to become leaders of the next generation with the Justice League dead, it would be most fitting for someone to like use that phrase but change it up to say something like 'We are Vengeance, we are the Knight, we are all BATMAN!" in a series finale or film climax. That would perfectly honor Kevin Conroy's Batman while also uniting the next gen heroes together. Bring them together Batfamily!
I grew up watching Justice League and JLU - Hawk girl has been, and still is, my favorite character since I was three. The DCAU means so much to me- I can't express it! Can't wait to finally see Damien Wayne (Robin) and John Stewart (Green Lantern) come to life of the big screen. Damien and John are my favorite versions of the characters.
Just saying, from my experience, not sticking to the source material can also be a good thing. Take Hilda for example. The comics never had too much to offer and the cartoon offered more. There was also the cartoon adaptation of welcome to demon school iruma kun, which had chronological order changes. There were also a lot of DreamWorks films that may have changed the source material a lot like Shrek and the boss baby as well as laika's Coraline. Other examples I can think of are Netflix's sweet tooth, marvel's moon girl and devil dinosaur and Amazon's The Boys, which had took a rather big turn from the source material to make their characters new stories and paths. And at the cream of the crop you have stuff like who framed Roger Rabbit and The Mask.
I feel like that can vary depending on the quality pf the source material. The Boys source doesn't have quite the same depth compared to some of the sources for Batman. And hence the lack of quality is the reason why the writers had to deviate, otherwise they would be stuck with something mediocre.
I absolutely agree with what you mean, but I think the difference lies in how big and beloved an IP is. If an og story is already good, recognizeable and dear by quite a big portion of the audience, then changing it would be more detrimental than anything. While if the source material is already not that impressive/popular then it's obvious that changes need to be made. Comparing Hilda's og comics to Superman's isn't really going to be very accurate. In short, don't fix what's not broken
Idk about the others, but for Invincible they announced that they would make changes to keep it fresh for those who read the original comic. They acknowledged that there is a fan base and they want to remain faithful to the source material while providing a unique experience. That helps set expectations for those that are already fans of Invincible.
What I meant is that the Hilda cartoon had more to offer than the comics. I’m so glad MatPat acknowledged the differences between Marvel movies and other superhero movies, they make a superhero not seem like a superhero movie.
which is exactly the reason why all the new marvel movies are failing, they embrace the super hero identity way too much and make them all generic, lame superhero movies

I agree even if I don't think Henry left because of those reasons (main being money).
@@nieznajomy4398 oh I absolutely don't believe it was because of money, he wanted to give the fans a proper adaptation of the witcher books, not a hodgepodge of witcher content in a poorly written mess
@@nieznajomy4398 he's so rich that money is basically meaningless at this point, but he's also huge huge nerd, gamer and actual lover of both Sapkowski's books and CD Project's games, so if I were to bet on it, I'd give all my money on "They are fucking up with the story and I'm the only person that cares about that", not the paycheck.
Why not?

There's been rumors of Warner having an interest on the character for more than 4 years already. We may yet see an adaptation of him.
Funny that, Star Wars was plagued with problems since the beginning; it's amazing this single film got a franchise, and even got off the ground, on account of how much went wrong even before filming started.

But him saying something like "Tom King's run on Supergirl was my favorite comicbook last year", really gives off the vibes that he does love and read comics.

yeah! Justice League Dark was a really good mini-franchise that I wish had led to something with their animated DC movies.
I love how the DCAU made the Batman Animated Series without planning the movie or the Batman Beyond Series but they fit it in and it was great to see the final chapters of Bruce's life played out with Terry. I think a lot of us forget how WB was incredibly ahead of the ball with Batman Mask of the Phantasm, criminally underrated :P
There was also Batman and Harley Quinn Batman mystery of the batwoman Batman mr. freeze subzero one that was supposed to go in between justice league and justice league unlimited which was justice league worlds collide originally but is now justice league crisis on two earths and there's justice league vs the fatal five now
Matpat HAS to be payed by DC at this point. It's unfair for them not to this far in 😂

As a writer, I completely understand the uncertainty. I have one project with eight seperate story arcs that I've dreampt up over the course of three years and want to write eventually. You want to know where you're aiming but have the flexibility to redirect plots and character arcs as they develop naturally over time. You can guide a kid onto a career track, but there's no guarantee they'll take to it.
As a young kid who started writing in January my idea for the story is not set in stone yet. I have the main plot and the main characters but not an antagonist yet. Maybe just an idea for an antagonist but i dont really know if it will work out yet. But im getting of track here, do you have any advice for me?
@@Bambi_but_cat_version Write a scenario with the cast you have and see how they play off each other. Even if you never publish it, you will have a better understanding at the end. Some stories don't need an antagonist.
Man I miss the OG animated series I was born in 2004 but in my country they showed it later not when it actually released and I loved it I grew up with all of those characters as well as the Batman and Superman series and then the OG Green Lantern series it was amazing I miss those days.

I remember LOVING Static Shock as a kid, I would love to see it made into something bigger!
I truly hope they make a good Green Lantern movie series/tv series. I would LOVE to see a full production of Geoff Johns complete run. They are soo good and deserve some more light.
Unfortunately both planned adaptations were scrapped.
One was animated(sequel to First Flight) and the other was…
Well, it would’ve starred Ryan Reynolds again so…
I just want John Stewart, dammit!

If you missed my comment, look up Green Lantern: Beware My Power.
i do wish they made a great static shock version
i grew up with that, and love the story

I LOVED Static Shock as a kid. He was one of my favorite animated superheroes way back when.
@@Insertia_Nameia me too! He was a fun character after we're bored with the adult kne, but also having spiderman as the only fun option
I disagree with the point on the most memorable part of The Mummy reboot. It was obviously Tom Cruise's gigantic dump truck.
The rather recently concluded DCAMU was spectacular as well imo; Made me love Damian Wayne’s robin for the first time and Raven became my favorite Titan tbh
It has some shining moments and a great finale- Infinity War style
Matpat's probably the only guy who can get me to watch a full 20 minute video about something I've never watched
The fact that booster gold is getting a movie soon is hilarious and I love it
He is getting a show, which might be better as it will give us more time to see the character get fleshed out.

Point five made me think of Scott cawthon. He knew the beginning and the end of his series, and he just fixed up things in the end.

Have you tried.. The square hole?
Seeing when all of these DC animated shows came out explains why my childhood was so good in terms of DC content
This sounds great. But I’m also happy that you referenced monkey prince. I’ve been really into that comic and it doesn’t get enough attention
DC followed the DCAU blueprint but only in the DCAMU(warverse) it's like the only people who remembered they built the blueprint was dc animated studio
6:26 In your pitch for a Superman movie you quite literally describe Man of Steel “The character who is determined to be purely good, is suddenly forced into position where he has to question his own ethical line.” That is quite literally what MoS is about, to a T.
fr tho
No, no it isn't. I never got "determined to be purely good" from a guy who destroys semi trucks out of pettiness and who snaps necks.
@@henrywalsh The destroying of the truck is to show Superman is more than just a cool god like figure, it shows that he is in perfect and he is human. And he had no choice with Zod, and it’s not like he didn’t care about killing him he quite literally cried after killing him.
@@KingBaragon if you can snap a neck from that position, you can knock the opponent out. He snapped a neck because Snyder wanted him to execute someone, nothing else.
And no. The truck was because Snyder just wanted Clark to be angry.
@@henrywalsh I see what you’re getting at but at that point if he just knocked him out it out would it have really fit with the themes of the movie? And just the trilogy overall? I can elaborate on that if you would like.
Oh My God. That is a PERFECT setup for spinoff movies/tv series!
@@zachscarbrough2727 Right? It's both a testing ground and a potential launch point
Lol true
Didn't expect a Velma cameo, MatPat 😂
But it's true, sticking to good(it should be good) source material is key.
I just want to see a Robin and eventually a Jason Todd storyline

This is what makes One Piece have such good world building. Oda definitely has the story planned out, but still leaves plenty of room to make the changes he wants
They should have Znider finished his trilogy, then start again with Reves Batman and Phoenixs Jolker...but we'll see how this comes out
1:15 THANK YOU, Somebody FINALLY SAID IT.
The Joker was just NOT necessary to The Batman.
That should've either been Hush, Scarecrow, or Freeze, all of which fit into the Narrative of being a Hero instead of a Fear.
Hush would make him question if he's even cut out to be a Hero,
Scarecrow would show the effectiveness of Fear, and fills the Void Batman Left,
Freeze would leave Batman in a Dilemma, what makes him a Hero? Taking down Freeze, or Saving him and Nora?
All of which, work better than "HAHA Clown guy makes SALES!"
Like, they could've at LEAST used Joaquin Pheonix's Joker, but instead, we got yet another one.
15:21 Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely (sole writersof the entire Cap trilogy as well as Infinity War and Endgame) actually said this exact thing in an interview. They said something about how if anybody behind the scenes knew what would happen ten movies down the line, then the audience would too and the movies leading up would feel like setup or check boxes instead of their own enjoyable movies
I’m not sure I can just let that very brief what seemed like Smallville slander go, I don’t remember many details but Smallville was an important part of my early childhood, MatPat sir
I felt the chemistry between Clark - Lex and Clark - Lois was really good. Erica is actually my favorite Lois too. I would’ve loved if it had came out years later with more updated cgi but overall I like rewatching it from time to time.
Wow that Shazam box office is really proving your point about how popular his franchise is….
Whoopsie
17:25 ngl this is the most encouraging thing i’ve ever heard as a writer lmaoo
Never underestimate the power of animation
Yep!
@@CCaster2000 yeah, it can be cost effective but also really good and expand on stuff with less restrictions.
6:41 man but that’s what Zack did with MoS and BvS

6:25 Well said, I didn't mind that Superman killed Zod or large chunks of the city were destroyed. It's that they didn't delve into that enough. That should carry some serious trauma.
Also well said about making sure the story fits the character. I've seen far too many people who really don't want to be working on these projects. They'd rather be telling other stories. So they change it to whatever they'd really like to be working on.
What really stood out for me are the Injustice Games stories. Those really made be a DC Fan in the first place. I would love to have that as in live-action films. Ik it would take alot of time but i would wait for it aslong as the stories whom i saw from the games would be almost exactly as the films
Point #5 is something anyone who has DM a DnD game has to know. You plan to far ahead, but you know your players will always find something diferent to do and you will be scrambring to improvice the new story when your rogue decided to put his portable hole into his bag of holding...
5:09 I went on that ride in Disney world, one of the coolest rides rides in Disney’s history like a better space mountain…
Can someone hire this man to help write something or make an anime about him like the intellectual side of death note with one punch man humour
Can we appreciate how this man is so so intelligent, and he chooses not to go and do something big, he just uses his knowledge to entertain us all
No we can't.
He is doing something big.
Matpatt seeing the potential in dc as always.
“ I am vengeance, I am the night, I AM BATMAN” - Kevin Conroy, May he Rest In Peace. 😔
It's also freaky that this episode talking about it came out, because I'm in the middle of binging it again! Lol. I want the DCAU to be expanded... so bad....
Well, the comics was much more fast paced and the cartoon decided to go slower@@asherdevin.
What I meant is that the Hilda cartoon had more to offer than the comics. David and frida had much more major roles and arcs, Hilda's mom is given a name, new species and concepts such as the marras and witches are included, there was a holiday special, even twig got an origin story treatment @@requiscat0in0pace48.
4:43 I like how you used the "muscle man" jokes from regular show reference.
A Superman film that focuses on Clark's social life and work would be amazing. All of the superhero stuff could happen off screen and it would only make the concept more hilarious.
