  • In this educational only video I'm describing and demonstrating some of the techniques, tools, and in this case abrasives I use to bring parts that have wear from mechanical stress or Environmental conditions back to a mechanically flawless state. Some can be helped some cannot. I'm sure this video will help you remedy issues such as these.

    I used to polish metal for a living in a Union at Livers Bronze company. Just a heads up, when you go backwards against the rotation of the wheel, this is the cutting stroke, when you go forward with the wheel, this is the polishing stroke. Any of the grey lines (compound) is called leave off. Lift the wheel and only run the wheel in the surface in the polishing direction to get the best finish.
    Typically, one uses a grey compound with a Sisal wheel to cut out any sort not grain, then move to a cotton bias wheel with white compound to remove the Sisal grain. Lastly if you need a 109% uniform finish, you put a little white compound in a container with acetone and use a soft cloth to create a slurry and hand rub the parts to a consistent #7 mirror.surface.
    The process from a raw metal is 120, 220, 320, grey compound and Sisal (orange for brass), then white compound and cotton Nuway bias cotton wheel. Hand finish ball leave off with the slurry.
    This is how professional metal finishers do stainless, aluminum, brass, bronze, copper for used in hand rails and such.

    I don't know if Glock recommends protecting from abrasion by coating friction points with lube, but if you want the slickest substance known to man, use engine assembly lube. It will stay put too, like the copper antiseize. I used the red permatext.

    this was the frosting I text you about and it was on my OEM parts. I can't figure out why it was happening. The more I worked it the pattern of frosting would change. Ultimately I determined it had something to do with the metal. One connector was perfect and another wasn't. One trigger bar was shiny and another frosted in the same area. Either way it was smooth and had no effect on the feeling of the parts other than not being mirror shiny.This is the first I have heard you speak of it so I thought it was a problem and I wanted to learn something new. Possibly we just chalk it up to metallurgy issues which is what a friend said is the cause. He works with metals for a living in some capacity and they seen this often so there is a name for it.

    • @johnnyglocks
      @johnnyglocks  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So I've discovered that the frosting comes from overloading the felt with compound mixed with the heat from the RPMs. Even though we've seen no negative ramifications from this frosting I still try to maneuver things so it does not happen

    • @whitey4311

      JOHNNY GLOCKS the persona what do you suggest to prevent it? I used the lowest rpms and kept it moving. I never felt the parts heat up and held them with my bare fingers. Weird

    @johnnyglocksthepersona HELP….followed your polishing video instructions to a tee (I did no filing on any of them) on 3 different glocks, a 43x, a 19 gen 5 and a 45. Once I finished, all 3 triggers were silky smooth and perfect and I had about a 4lb break. Took all 3 firearms to the range and after about 50 rounds, on ALL 3 firearms the trigger break all of a sudden increases to about 8-10lbs. In order for me to fix it, all I do is take the trigger assembly out and put it back in (no cleaning or adjusting or anything, just take out and put back) and it goes right back to a silky smooth 4lb break.

    May I ask a question? Why does everyone working on Glocks use a Dremel for everything? Is there some reason (other than impatience) you don’t use ceramic stones when polishing flat surfaces? Flat stones => flat surface. A perfect example is the broad contact surfaces on the beak of the trigger bar. I don’t care about shiny - I care about smooth and FLAT.
    I know that the Dremel is a great tool. I just don’t understand not using stones and fine files where it makes sense.

    I use Mothers wheel polish. You can see two mirror finished custom pistols i did as my header on my channel a PPQ and my main photo or icon is my custom polished and graphic custom 1911. I made the 1911 cherry wood grips by hand. I also can make your plastic grips look like simulated wood or stipple them and more! I’ve also used buffing compound which is similar to what you’re using but not as abrasive though still it has a lot of grit!
    I’m into show cars and the race scene so ive been doing custom car graphics painting for 20 years! I just use what i’ve always known works! You should try these products yourself! the proof is in the pictures,i’ll also post a video soon showing 5-6 of my customs if you’re interested? I’ve subbed to you and liked so i hope you’ll do the same!
    Thanks for your time!

    I'm curious about the G44, I will be interested to hear what you have to say about it. I have one, and I slicked up my trigger using similar methods to yours. It turned out pretty nice, and the gun functioned flawlessly my first time out with it, through 1250 assorted rounds, in one three hour range session. Thanks for all you educational videos, I enjoy them. Many negative reviews on TH-cam for the G44... People must be doing something wrong.

    • @dsbond8048
      @dsbond8048 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      My G44 will not feed Federal 36g, 38g, 40g, Remington 36 g goleden, and Winchestedr 36g. It only works with CCI Mini Mags (but will not slide lock). What am I doing wrong?

    • @clutchcargo1239
      @clutchcargo1239 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@dsbond8048 I'm not sure what is wrong, but does your slide slip on the rails like glass? It's a blow back .22, and in order for it to cycle everything efficiently, the slide has to move easily on the rails, so all the recommended lubrication points must be slick. I worked my slide in by hand, completely cleaned the slide grooves, and hit all the Glock manual suggested lubrication points with Hoppes 9 oil. My slide feels very smooth. My 44 happily eats everything I've fed it. 32, 36, 40, RN, HP, it doesn't matter. The weakest round I had was Armscor 36. They are also very dirty. The Winchester superX 40, White box bulk, Federal bulk 36, Thunderbolts 36, Mini Mags, Velocitors, Stingers, all ran flawlessly. Maybe a light polishing on your rails would help. I can't imagine my gun is special, other than I slicked my trigger. Good luck.
