Since I own the DDJ 800, I'm looking for a backup controller for travel. I used the DDJ 400 in the past so seeing that pioneer upgraded it to FLX 4, I believe I found my backup controller.
i have a ddj 800 too!But I want to find a convenient all-in-one dj system, such as Denon Dj Prime Go or Numark Mistream Pro Go ! I do not know which one I should choose
Hi I'm a beginner dj just booked my course with LSA , I haven't bought any controller yet however I wanted to go for ddj400 now after watching this video I got even more confused 😅 can't decide which one to go for
Go for the ddj 400 cause the learning effect is much higher instead of using this new stupid fader effects which makes it all easier. Learn it the real way
With regards to courses...I would say use this as an entry point but the best way to learn DJing and to find your own style is to practice, practice, practice in your own time in your own way. With regards to controllers....there is a lot of choice on the market...I would focus on what you want the end goal of DJing to be. Do you want to play eventually on CDJ's in clubs for example? Ultimately all controllers do the same- they enable you to play music and manipulate the sound. They just do it in slightly different ways
Definitely get the FLX4, it’s a no brainer as has more features and compatibility to other softwares. The smart fader is only a feature, you don’t have to use it so can learn to Dj ‘the proper way’ without cheating! I’ve just ordered the FLX4. 👍
I am looking to buy a second hand controller and have been looking at both the ddj400 and the flx 4. As I am looking to just mess around at home to see how I get on is it worth investing in a flx4 or should I go for a cheaper ddj400 to learn how to beat match properly without a smart fade intervention?
Just go for the FLX-4 from the outset as it’s the newer device. You can still learn to beat match properly on this controller as you don’t need to switch on the smart fader
@@djkarlthomas I cant quite stretch to flx4 money at the mo unfortunately. Im trying to think about affordability too. With looking to learn to actually Dj rather than using tech in mind, would I get as much out of a DDJ400 at half the price of an FLX and be able to get started quicker or does the FLX offer something I should wait a little longer for? From what I can see so far, the FLX is a rounded off DDJ400 with a smart fade facility to match and fade songs of different bpm's?? and the orange lights are a bit more.....meh! than the colours on the DDJ400..... Other than that, they look like the pretty much do the same thing? Is the FLX lay out more like a pro device?
Yes you can still get a lot of usage out of the 400- I would just check the compatibility with rekordbox as support for the 400 may now be limited as a hardware unlock device given the FLX-4 replaced it. Check this before you buy
@@djkarlthomas From what I have read on the pioneer website, the rekordbox software is still compatible across the whole range from the DDJ''s to the FLX's where unlocks are concerned! Handy!!
I only see the mic issue I see in both units is the mic input being missing on the DDJ400. Serato doesn't interest me and the smart fader doesn't either. The FX button mixing effects doesn't either. Any work around on the mic issue?
@@jtvalente it’s only for live streaming situations whereby the FLX4 works over the DDJ 400. I use the mic in bar/club environments and both devices support a mic so that the crowd can hear me.
The FLX-4 and 6 look good but would you upgrade from a NI Traktor S5 or go for something else? There's nothing wrong with the S5 but the software lets it down
I don’t know much about the S5 but they look to be on the same level as these controllers- if you want to truly upgrade look at a DDJ1000 or something like that
i was considering buying the ddj-400 for a while, used to play professionally and only got time and space for a little one now. Would appreciate your thoughts on whether I should get the ddj400 or DDJ-FLX4?:) cheers edit: also i cant figure out exactly whether the effects got the classic filter effect
@@djkarlthomas either is fine budget wise, one little thing is to me the look/texture of the ddj400 seems better, otherwise I'm leaning towards FLX4 after this vid :) ty for ur response
Not sure about one on one training in this "youtube tutorials" era. Use youtube, get a cheap controller (cheap in price) like the DDJ400 to get used to Rekordbox (or any other controller to decide which software is best for you), practice with that controller and get yourself some self-sessions at places like PIRATE where you can use CDJs for a few pounds an hour, alone, in a DJ booth with pro gear. A one on one training will never replace practice and IMO, not worth the money. I gave DJ trainings to kids and few sessions after, I got impressed by what they learned online. Use your passion to learn, practice and DO NOT FOLLOW the usual rules. Be crazy and creative. Own your style. Just a personal opinion.
@@jfprofile thank you soo much. I have just pre ordered the ddj flx 4 I’ll just do loads of online research until it arrives and than just put in the hours practicing and self learning
Agree with the above- TH-cam is a great way to learn for free! There’s tonnes of videos on here. If you want a proper course check out Pointblank if you are in the UK
Serato was so difficult to use with the Rane I had. Spent more time getting it to work than using it. Never again. Sold it to some sucker🤣 Bought the DDJ FLX4. Love rekordbox. Very simple to use. So many features...
It’s an interesting perspective. I guess everyone has their own opinion…I think both look similar but I completely get why people think the newer one looks cheaper
It’s a hardware unlock device meaning you will get performance features. You will need to subscribe if you want to access the cloud features of Rekordbox
well - they rely on the Rb mobile app which is coming soon. then the little new one will quickly become popular before the ddj 400. I'm also considering getting this little bitch as a mini toy 😂👍

Hey, I have a question. I understand that the Flx4 unlocks the same version of the Rekordbox as the DDJ400 ?
