AlphaTheta XDJ-AZ & DDJ GRV6 - some initial thoughts

- A huge week of announcements for AlphaTheta/ Pioneer DJ with not 1 but 2 new controller releases. These are my initial thoughts on both new units!

What do you think of these 2 new releases?
Personally, I wanted to buy a CDJ-3000, but the amount was large and expensive to buy it. Then I saw the XDJ-AZ controller, and I was convinced that it was more suitable for me as a mobile DJ. Unfortunately, I did not find it available in the market due to a defect that was later revealed, as it was stopped from the market temporarily
Oh no! Is that still the case? It seems to be on the market here!

Great review. My 2 cents: in relation to the AZ - as you hinted, something that could have probably been brought out a while ago and now misses many of the tech and creative features of others' including the GRV6. Maybe with GRV6 AT are hinting at the future? That controller has it all and is useful unless you need the stand alone capability of the AZ. It also has a better sound card than the FLX10 (which in my opinion does not sound great given its price). Bottom line for me, the AZ whilst good value in comparison to separates is still not great value considering how far tech has moved on in the last few years. The FLX10 doesn't have the groove circuit, although does have a high gloss finger print magnet mixer section and a lower quality sound output than the GRV6! The GRV6 is very minimalist but from a specification and features point of view, may well prove the best investment for most bedroom / semi pro DJs in the future as the residual value will probably be quite strong. It seems we're quickly moving to creative, expressive DJing that the GRV6 supports better and cheaper overall than the rest, especially given standalone units do not have the computing power integrated to cope with STEMS etc. In summary, it seems we're in a period of change and unless you're a pro playing in clubs regularly, surely you'd be mad to invest in expensive outdated tech?
From what I'm hearing, the XDJ AZ is targeted towards EDM DJs just like the cdj-3000 since most people playing on cdj are EDM DJs opposed to open format or Mobile DJs. Any thoughts?
I think most DJs using Sorato are mobile/open format djs Where EDM DJs are just using rekordox To prepare their music to play on USB.
I mean, I don’t think it’s limited to just EDM, I have seen many different electronic music artists use the 3000s including Drum and Bass DJs, house, techno. This controller should appeal to serato DJs too as it will be compatible from Dec but will also appeal to smaller clubs and bars which can’t afford a full CDJ set up as DJs working on different platforms will be able to plug in and play on this.
I'm actually quite excited about the GRV6. Budget is obviously a factor in that I cannot splash out on an XDJ AZ, but the GRV6 seems distinct and usefull. I think the Groove Circuit feature would be great for my Drum & Bass sets to alleviate the huge energy drops during many of the breakdowns.
Yes absolutely will be great for DnB!! I can imagine the creative possibilities are endless. Of course whilst it’s not to my taste, everyone is different and I am sure you will have a lot of fun with it, it’s still a great product and definitely one that has more innovation than others
What is Your openion about FLX 10
It’s a good unit. Has a lot of pro-features you find on cdjs and high end mixers
The DDJ-GRV10 would be released hopefully next year and would replace the DDJ-GRV6
I don’t think alphatheta/pioneer have ever replaced anything within a year…..

The GRV-6 is the replacement for the FLX-6. The FLX-10 is the replacement for the DDJ-1000
@@djkarlthomas that's true but what I am trying to say is that another controller that looks just like the GRV6 would be out (a much bigger one)
@@djsammie in that case it would be a replacement for the FLX-10, and seeing as the GRV-6 is about $200 more than the FLX-6, the potential GRV-10 would probably cost $3-500 more than the FLX-10
In regards to lugging around the AZ is not the solution, FLX10 is a much more suitable for portable use in my opinion.
All depends if you want to use a laptop or not really I think.

Alphatheta or pioneer. It doesn’t make you sound better or enhance your user experience.
If you use sticks yes it’s great! But if you use Serato it’s not worth it!
