I'm a hardcore Numark fanboy ever since my og Mixtrack Pro in 2013, and my controllers have always been Numark - except for a very short period from 2016 to 2017 where I had a Pioneer DDJ-SB2. After that, I bought an NVII and have been using it till very recently. A few months ago, I also got a Mixstream Pro+ and couldn't be happier with it. The standalone features are just amazing, especially considering the price. BUT, and here's what's interesting: During the very short period of me owning an SB2, I've noticed that the overall build quality and haptic is just a tiny bit better on a Pioneer controller. I can't even tell you what exactly it is that sets it apart from Numark, but it just felt so nice and comfortable to use that I always wished I had never sold the SB2. A few weeks ago, I discovered the REV1 by accident and started watching a bunch of reviews, and after a while I knew I HAD to have this controller. I don't even really need it, since the Mixstream is already quite compact and does everything I need. Still, I decided to give it a go and bought the REV1. Well, needless to say... I've got bitten by the Pioneer bug all over again. This thing is AWESOME for what little you pay for it. The jogs feel balanced and have just the right amount of torque to them, the surface feels buttery smooth and all the buttons and knobs have a level of pro-feel to them that I just can't describe. On top, the digital VU meters look a lot more professional than on the NVII and Mixstream - more like the ones found on actual DJM mixers. Bottom line: I will keep the Mixstream as my main gear, but the REV1 will remain my backup controller and also my weapon of choice for smaller events. The battle-style layout is just so unique, and those jogwheels are to die for. Well played, Pioneer DJ! 👏

Appreciate this review brother! These 2 controllers for me are almost head to head when it comes to budget controllers. Their capabilities can absolutely be at par with more expensive dj gears nowadays. Amazing stuff! Thanks!

I appreciate your very specific review! As someone who could only afford the DDJ 200 for the time being, if I were looking to upgrade, these two controllers would be my logical choice. Because Ive put a lot of time into rekordbox and am more familiar with it, the FLX4 is the choice for me. Time to start saving soon I suppose, and thanks for your review. Its the only one ive found so far telling the differences specifically between these two. Like I didnt know the REV had a crossfader assist on it vs the smart FX.

The effect area is different. On the FLX you have a button to push and pull for deck 1 and deck 2. The rev 1 you can select two different effects for each deck.

The flx 4 is a generation ahead of the rev 1 minus the slightly smaller jog wheels, it has multi software compatibility, smart fx and cross fader controls, Bluetooth connectivity, power bank power usable, mobile, tablet usable in addition to laptop (early 2023) microphone features (including for livestreams) multi platform compatibility including Android. All lacking in the rev1.

@@steviejay868 not really, it's great for beginners who struggle which is what a beginner controller should be. You always have the option to not use the features that don't appeal to you. It also makes the entry to dj easier as many who do not have a laptop can just use it with their mobile phones.

Got a rev1 yesterday to replace my obselete reloop terminal mix 2 which is a shame as the reloop was a quailty well built unit. 😢 So i opened the box, unwraped it, put it on a table, felt the switches, knobs and platters, wrapped it back up and put it back in box, returning it today. I know its cheap but feels like a kids toy. More tomy than pioneer. Save up a bit more money a get a midrange if u can. 😊😊😊

It's all a matter of preference. I too prefer Serato over Rekordbox. I have a DJM-S11 where it works with both and I bought control vinyl for Rekordbox but I can't stand mixing in the program. Plus the S11 is made more for Serato even though it works with both. It's nice to have the option though....
