Thanks for the vid bro. I love your honest, humble approach. It's truly refreshing.
Concerning codecs, I've found that in certain cases the XAVC HS 10-bit 4:2:0 codec actually isn't depending on what computer you use. I'm currently on an M1 Mac Mini and the performance is great. I'm sure there's a difference between this and the XAVC-SI codec. But considering how much space is saved on the HS codec, I find it to be a happy medium between high-quality footage and efficient file sizes. Ultimately it'll depend on what you're shooting but its a good option to have.

I've been team Canon for ages, and although I still use an R5 for my photogrpahic work, I've been using the FX3 for all my video work and it's a game changer. Literally use the same setup as you and the image for how minimalistic it is I feel is unrivalled at this point.
Dual native ISO is also AMAZING for run and gun as you can take a more subtractive lighting approach vs having to artificially create things, especially in darker situations.

The key helper point from this video for me, was hearing how you’ve been able to be successful adding weight for stability. Because I shot on a C200 and loved the stability due to weight, and was concerned if I tried an FX3 or mirrorless cam about not having enough weight. But it sounds like it’s all good when you add some chonky components!

I love my FX3 coming from the Blackmagic P6K even though it had a "better" image. I was tired of rigging it up and all the weight and focus manually. I can now relax and know I have stellar autofocus when I need it which is 90% of the time. Hardly anyone would notice the difference on any online posting.. Thanks for your great videos..
PS. My new MacBook Air M1 cuts through FX3 footage like butter in all formats. Best computer I have owned in the last 20 years of being a Macintosh user.. Also when you talk about handheld you showed images and BTS of you using a gimbal.. But the message was clear anyways..

Wow! This comment really resonates with me. I love the FX3 and as an amateur/hobbyist I feel like I have so much room to grow with this camera.
Also, your comment just pushed me over the edge to grab a M1 Mac. I've been struggling a ton on an 2018 Intel based model. I'm using Resolve Studio and trying to generate proxies, lower reso play back and more and it is still stuttery on some 1080 120FPS (no effects). I'm ordering right after I press send lol

    • @ekphotography
      @ekphotography 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

@@markIRL Best dang computer I have owned in 25 years as a Mac Only user. Don't wait for the next M1X, if it comes out you can always sell it and they are dang cheap. I got the Air, yes an Air Apple Refurbished 16 ram 2 TB SSD 8gpu/8Core for 1499.00 and I cut 120 4K 422 10 bit FX3 like butter in full res. Both FCPX and Davinci Resolve 17.3.1. Go For it!! Zero complaints except some plug ins are not working yet, but most are... Luckily I sold my Maxed out iMac 2019 before the price drop to much and got the Air and a LG 36 inch monitor for less than I sold my iMac. And the Air BLOWS away my iMac hands down! No comparison!

definitely echo the weight note on this platform. I have a few cages (8sinn, Tilta, SmallRig, and KondorBlue) coupled to various permutations of handles. I've found that finding the center of balance is key for where you end up mounting things (I don't generally use the Sony XLR handle as I'm mostly using wireless via Deity/Rode) so I generally have my Ninja hanging over the front of the camera body and about 1/3rd the way up on the Sigma 24-70mm I use. obviously, your mileage may vary :)

I was going to grab a Black Magic but what you have managed to get out of it, plus the form factor of the FX3, and the fact that its not cumbersome makes it a winner. I've only ever done photography in the past but now I want to get into some video/film making and was wondering if you could help me in the following area.
Does an onboard monitor affect what you can get out of your camera?

Thanks for sharing so much great info! :)
I would be super interested to know your thought process on planning your shots ahead. For example for the cycling video: your knew you would need many shots of him riding. How did you plan ahead how many you would need per angle. And where you would shoot which angle.
I get some much great info from your breakdowns and bts, reason why I never miss a single video. But this is one thing I still struggle with when planning my shoots. So I always end up improvising, shooting the same angle at every location and hoping that I will work in the edit. But I know it’s a bad inefficient approach, and I can feel it when editing.
Your insight on that would be so valuable. But anyway, thanks for your videos, I love what you do :).

Love those last two tips. Get something from every video. (Even though I’m only an aspiring Sony user 🙃)

The best-detailed video on the camera... I don't even own it. Still watched it.

Danny, greetings from Yonkers, NY!Question, I know you posted one vid on anxiety during shoot day. What about posting a video on battling tiredness on a shoot day or even during pre and post production. Would be interested for your take on this since filmmaking is hard on the body, mentally and physically. Staying creative when tired is a challenge for me. Do you utilize exercise? Do you have a daily routine that helps keep you energized? Appreciate you and your channel!
