hey matti i have the sony a7iii and as you probably know it only has 8bit colors so do the luts look fine on slog 2?

question maybe you know about my lcd screen is bonding while is on for 20mins, but i only see that on the lcd screen but when you took a photos or video is not affected. its clear. its just my lcd screen.

What lenses are you using on your Sony?
I currently switched from Canon to Sony and the autofocus from Sony doesn’t work with my Canon lenses when I have it in video mode.
I will definitely be trying slog3 scinetone for my next video, also will buy outs 🔥
Will the LUTS work just as well with an 8 bit Sony like the a7iii?

Do you recommend formatting your card after every shoot though? If I do that, I would obviously assume that it would delete my saved LUTs and Memory Recall settings saved on the card. Is this correct? How do y'all do it?

Your recommendation of XAVC HS 4K makes a lot of sense to NTSC shooters, but here in Norway we shoot in PAL and when I switch to XAVC HS 4K, I'm locked to 50p. Am I missing something? Since I mainly want to shoot in 25p, do you recommend XAVC S-I for PAL shooters?
I've been having the same issue and for XAVC S-I I had to get a different memory card so now I just use XAVC S 4K to still use the cheaper cards
Will these work on the a7IV’s PP11 S-Cinetone?
Do you have a video coming out about how to use these settings/luts for photos? Like how to use them in Lightroom or something?

Can anyone help me out, i recorded most of my videos on XAVC S I HD and now those MP4 are coming up as corrupt when trying to view the files, i can see them fine on my camera but not on my mac, im only able to acces the few that i recorded on XAVC HS. newbie here any hep is appreciated!

One thing that bothers me about using the Sony presets is not being able to manually set white balance with a grey card while in 1,2 or 3. Other than that, I do like the presets and use them all the time.

Thanks Matti for the LUTS. Been color editing for a while now but for this new sonys, been having issues deciding on the right work flow. After watching this, found that your way might be actually faster. Could we get a future video on at least your "order of operation" of color editing workflow? I know you don't want to show everything, just an update video of what you do 1st to finish when coloring footage? Especially for FCP :D

Matti did a fantastic colour grading workflow video a few years ago, called 'How to colour grade like a pro' or something like that. It's very useful if you haven't seen it. Sorry if you have and you're asking a slightly different question, hope this helps!
You mentioned double your shutter speed depending on the FPS you're shooting. When it's bright outside what do you change to adjust for lighting if ISO is at 100 and it's still way to bright?
You buy a ND filter to put in front of your lens, like sunglasses for your camera. So then you can apply the rule perfectly.

I have the FX6 but I been watching FX3 videos and want one as a b cam and for vlogs
I have a ZV1, which can't do 10 bit. It does have S-log 2 and 3 and something called HLG, which looks like a "flat" profile. I don't really color grade (don't know what I'm doing....) so, would these LUTs help?
I wouldn’t use SLOG3. The ZV1 is only 8bit 4:2:0 so it can’t handle what SLOG3 needs. Use SLOG2 with ITU709 Matrix and you could use a LUT very very lightly. I wouldn’t push it too far.

So when you record in different speeds.
When you pull it into editing, what do you set your timeline speed at?
Should your timeline be at what your going to upload at?
Say if you want it uploaded at 60 and you recorded some at 24, 60 and 120.
What if you upload at 30/24 and you recorded at different rates or even at same rate.
Recording at 24/30 uploading at 60.
Set your timeline to whatever you want to upload at.
The rule is you can go down in frame rates but not up. So you can 60 down to 30, but not 30 to 60.

I just tried to test it and it looked off, like it brought a very green-ish/teal tone to everything. I set my Profile settings exactly how Matti did, so Idk if I just did something wrong lol, but I guess I'm confused about how it actually makes grading "easier".
Jack Wagner I have to agree. I did the same thing. Granted I use phantom luts so they could just not play well with those settings. Also my white balance could have been off
@@jackwgner i would not do it. There is a lot of information about Log and Color spaces missing in this video. I think it’s because matti don’t completely understand the science behind it. Adding saturation won’t give you more data, and the reason s-cinetone is adding noise is because it is a lot smaller Color space than s.gamut3.cine s-cinetone is made to be broadcast as is, so it is only rec.709, where as s.gamut3.cine is as big of a Color space as the sensor can capture. Bigger than rec.2020 and dci-p3. Shooting s-cinetone with slog3 just shows you don’t understand how this works
