      Great video Matt...but it did not set up this directory on the memory card...PRIVATE>SONY>SETTING 7SM3>CAMSET so I manually set up the folders on the memory card and copied the file to the appropriate location. When I went to load it on my Sony A7S3 with V2.0, it said "The file does not exist." Any thoughts?

      @@whoismatt Just FYI on the Sony FX3 the path is PRIVATE\SONY\SETTING\FX3\CAMSET but it says "This file cannot be loaded" when trying to load WHOISMAT. Is the file only for A7S III?

    For S&Q, you only need V60 cards if you don't choose SI. Set your camera to record 120fps and framerate to 120fps. You now have the option for all speed effects in your NLE. Upon import, you'll see it in 24fps (or whatever project framerate you set), but you'll have the option to speedramp and do all the fancy speed effects you've seen others doing. Yep...all you need, and all you'll ever need, are just V60 cards to accomplish this. The only reason you would want CFS Express cards, is exactly for the reasons you mention...because you want to record individual frames using i-frame. If you are wanting to do that...I would also suggest using an Atomos for that instead and recording ProRes or DNxHR.

    Thanks Matt for yet another great video. Here is a quick tip for all the viewers for Save/Load settings in A7 S III. I have been struggling with it for two weeks and finally figured it out. When you format the memory card in the camera the SONY folder is empty (PRIVATE--->SONY). As Matt mentioned in his Help document about how to load his settings and what SONY help manual also tells, this path should be like this PRIVATE > SONY > SETTING 7SM3
    > CAMSET. So basically "SETTING 7SM3 > CAMSET" is missing under the "SONY" folder. You have to first 1. Format the memory card in camera. then 2. save the current settings of your camera (MENU > Setup (Yellow Toolbox) > Reset/Save Settings > Save/
    Load Settings > SAVE). This will populate the entire folder structure in the memory card. Then take out memory card, insert into computer and replace the " .dat " file in "CAMSET" folder with Matt's file. It's a small nuance but thats the workaround. I have two SONY A7 S III bodies and could not copy my settings from one camera to the other. I opened a ticket with SONY and spent so much time but even they could not figure it out. Hope it helps and I hope it was not an issue with my cameras only. If your is working fine without this workaround, please let me know. And yes, both my camera bodies are on the updated firmware version V 2.0.

    Set Power Save Start Time to 1 minute, so if you forget to press record during the ceremony or speeches, that blank screen will give you a big hint that you messed up. You can also leave your camera on throughout the day without worrying about battery waste.
    Auto Exposure settings (aperture priority or auto ISO) are actually useful because the sun's intensity changes, often dramatically. Shunning all auto settings is just making your life more difficult - especially in post. Day-lit ceremonies (indoors or outside) with intermittent cloud cover are hell in full manual - not only are you on the dial the whole time and screwing up exposure constantly but the continual tweaking of settings adds movement to the whole shot.
    PAL / NTSC - if you're in a PAL country then do keep it to PAL. As others have said this isn't just about broadcast standards, it's also important to match the frequency of the electrical system to avoid flickering lights much as possible. 25p is close enough to 24p to pass for "cinematic" in terms of delivering the best client experience.
    This was a great video though and really helpful, just wanted to add some notes that others may or may not agree with.

    • @ProWalks

      Just got to the section on NTSC/PAL. I am Europe so I shoot everything in PAL (50fps) because if I don't, I'll see flickering lights anytime I walk by florescent lights which is very distracting, especially a night. As far as I know, there is no way around this but to film in PAL. Is there something I'm missing?

    • @whoismatt
      @whoismatt  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can try filming with a lower or higher shutter speed and seeing if that fixes things even in ntsc. You’ll need to experiment a bit

  • @rami_diab_photography
    @rami_diab_photography 2 ปีที่แล้ว +10

    Hi Matt, great video! Just a small note on what you said for PAL/NTSC. If you are in a country which has PAL standard (e.g. most of Europe), you should not switch to NTSC at all occasions. We do have a different power frequency in our electric networks so if you film in NTSC in Germany for instance and there are lights hooked up to the socket, you probably will get a lot of flimmering.

    • @edouhoekie
      @edouhoekie 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Netherlands here, our net is 50hz and NTSC works perfectly fine. Most LED lights don't flicker since they have circuits that equalize that and they're basically standard unless you're in old places where I'd switch it if really needed, much rather have 24-60-120 than PAL, my preference.

    • @dmoratoprat
      @dmoratoprat ปีที่แล้ว

      You're right. Ntsc in Europe it's not recommended!

    One thing to note is you can use S&Q mode to record hyperlapses. A lot more convenient than taking a picture, taking a step, picture, step, picture, step, etc. You can put it to SQ and walk straight with a gimbal.

Pt 1 and Pt 2 of these videos plus the How to Expose in SLOG3 helped me achieve absolutely great results last week. Your settings are really practical and really work, and your tips are to the point. Unless other self-proclaimed gurus (e.g. Mark Galer) your tips actually made me shoot the video with the cinematic look I was looking. Other TH-camrs DON'T give away all their tricks. They are selfish with their "secrets".

    Hi Matt - great work on another fantastic video mate! As an observation - I've got 2 x Sony a7SIII's and both are set to PAL as I live in Australia, and when I loaded your whoismatt.dat file the Video Mode and Mode Dial (1) settings came up as XAVS 4K 25p 60M 4:2:0 8bit. As a test - I reset the cameras to NTSC and reloaded the .dat file - and the Video Mode and Mode Dial (1) settings reverted to your XAVS 4K 24p 100M 4:2:2 10bit - so the NTSC/PAL setting seems to influence the settings. In PAL mode - Mode Dial (2) and (3) came up as 50p 200M 4:2:2 10bit and 100p 280M 4:2:2 10bit, respectively.

    Thank you, very well done. Just one remark. You said PAL was just for broadcast in PAL countries. Unfortunately, it‘s not that simple. If your electricity runs at 50 Hz, you had flicker with 23,98. You can use this with BM cameras - because these have shutter _angle_ ....

    • @whoismatt
      @whoismatt  3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi Matt, as always, excellent work, thanks for sharing everything.
    I have this question: I upgraded to version 3.0 and I can't load my previously saved settings.
    This is because unfortunately, version 3 does not read the settings of previous versions.
    However, I downloaded your DAT and it reads it.
    How can this happen?
    Have you made a DAT version of firmware 3.0?
    How unfortunate that Sony doesn't give us a way to preserve this data...
    Thank you very much and continue your good work.
