I think piracy and cracking it's one of the Best things if it's done in a console old enough so it doesnt harm the business sells. I'm talking also about homebrew programs that can make your console go far beyond the original limitations

Exactly, my philosophy is that if downloading ROMs or ISOs doesn’t mean the developer is losing out on money, it’s okay, especially for preservation’s sake. Doubly so for Nintendo, which is horrible at preservation and porting old games to new hardware.

Oh, for the modchip, I did different. I soldered with cables on mother board, and the cables to the modchip. This way, I positioned the mod chip on the side of the console, with the venting grade. This way, you can see the lights of the modchip, indicating if it's working or not. When not, they blink all the time. When working, it blinks only at certain times when loading the disc.

Hey Joe, great video! Got me interested into the gamecube again! I have a question though: what kind of dvd-R are you using? Is it the dvd-r from sony that are sold as minidisc? And with what program are you burning it to the disc and at what speed? The reason I ask is because I don't see you adjusting the laser senstivity whilst a lot of people on youtube are doing that. Thanks a a lot for your time and effort in putting this out here!

    • @JoeBleeps
      @JoeBleeps  4 ปีที่แล้ว

Thank you! I've used Piodata and Traxdata media, 1.46gb DVD-R media. It's the smaller size media like the original GameCube discs. You can burn it natively in Windows 10 by right clicking the disc image, I also have software called imgburn that gives more options. I got lucky with this model but if you watch my other video with the orange cube you'll see some details on adjusting the laser calibration 😊

For the Xeno mod chip, the original install guides would recommend soldering in posts (ie bits of solid core wire or leftover capacitor legs) and bending them into place to solder in the chip.
I need to get me one of those SD adapters and a copy of Swiss to play around with my IcedCube Xeno modded Cube. It would probably save a lot of wear and tear on the DVD mechanism vs playing backups.

    Hello,
i plan to get a NGC but i'm confused about the mods out there.
I want to play games from my original discs but also some games modded (i also could need tools for speedrunning but thats another part). For this case i need the SD2SP2, right? To make use of it, i need the Swiss software? And to get it to work i need the Xenon soldered to the NGC? And it doesn't matter which NGC i get. I'm living in EU (PAL) but because of the Xenon it will unlock the region anyway?
Playing original games with disc and to play the game modded i need to dump my game and apply the mod and play the game from the SD card wich is in the SD2SP2?

Isn't modding the region selector switch with a XenoGC redundant? I have a japanese gamecube, I did the region mod, swapped the region to USA, and by having a XenoGC installed, my Gamecube loads Japanese and American discs without a problem, always on USA region selected (didn't installed a switch, just linked the points in the board to change to USA region).

I started to crave some GameCube gameplay after years of mine sitting in the original box after upgrading to the wii. I unfortunately lost many of my games to disc rot and took a look online just to find those games going for 60-80 is dollars! So I downloaded a dolphin emulator on my pc and started playing Mario kart double dash , (My favorite game) and realized that it didn’t feel quite right. As a result I couldn’t enjoy the game with the stutters and lag spikes from terribly optimized emulators. So I did a search online to see if I could still get my hands on a mod chip. I was surprised to see that they were readily available for under 7 US dollars! So I bought two . One for my purple GameCube and one for my silver one. I prefer to run my (Backups) off of a mini dvd-r disk for the feel. So come to find out that the disk I need are now scarce as a result of the pandemic. I eventually found a store in my local area that still had plenty of stock of the Phillips mini dvd-r 50 packs which were still made until the pandemic. So for 49.75 US dollars I purchased a 50 pack. And two more on top of that in case they would never return to production. And now, here I am binge watching people mod their game cubes until my chips get here the 7th of December.

Qoob Chips are rare these days and a bit expensive.
But a equal chip today is the hyperboot www.badassconsoles.com/hyperboot/

@@-Gothicgirl- sorry I should have been a bit clearer in my explanation, I have a Qoob Pro chip in my (heavily modded) launch model GameCube so I was curious to know what I could do with it! That's all really helpful information, thanks so much! I'll have to give it a try 😁

      I make it easy. www.dropbox.com/s/juhuauz5618a7e7/iplboot.rar?dl=0
You need a hacked qoob patcher and the ipboot.gcb. I packend it for you in the rar file.
Then you unzip it all and connect the qoob pro to the pc.
After that you launch the update and connect it.
Then you delete everything on the qoob and even the bios.
Then you write the gcb file to the qoob and disconnect the Software and the usb Kabel.
On the micro sd in slot b you copie the current swiss.dol and rename it to ipl.dol
Use the normal dol because the compressed slow down the system.
Now everytime when power on the gc the ipl boot looks in slot a and slot b after the ipl.dol and start it.
When it not be found like the sd card is not insert the system boot the normal c bios.
The ipl.dol must be in slot a or b because that ipl boot doesnt support boot from sd2sp2.
The creater of ipl boot has never released that Version.
But swiss Support the sd2sp2 when it is launched

You're right that was a bit of an oversight. It was an early video and I've been trying to do better since. I've done another GameCube video since that shows it working th-cam.com/video/Rvo7qnDhdpY/w-d-xo.html

Far from the ultimate. Look into the GCLoader.

Yeah as discussed in the other comments. I'll consider gc loader but I don't see what it offers over the sd2sp2 aside from losing the ability to play disc games?
