heres a lesson in watching a video completely before doing. i tried soldering to the board before you mentioned how some people do it with wires. luckily i did not destroy my gamecube, but my project is on hold until a new chip and a solder removal device arrives from amazon
Looks like those top two points could easily bridge the pads underneath because you can see two of them through the whole. Maybe they are suppose to be bridged, I dunno. But is that why people recommend using wires instead?
My gamecube with xeno modchip is broken due to the bad disc drive capacitors. So I replaced it with my new gamecube toys r us edition with region switch mod. So I swapped the old disc drive with GC Loader PNP HW2 with 1TB SD Card with Every GameCube Game in a America.
can the modchip work just by using electrical tape i have never soldered before and really want a Xenochip but i know i can buy a solder device at home depot or lowes but dont want to break my only gamecube
I'm having some issues with the free macboot and the external hard drive it wont load past the free macboot screen it's a maxone 3.0 to 2.0 I've got it all set up
Does the second led only come on if the game starts? I have the first led turning on, but I don’t have any official discs to test with and I don’t want to start messing with the potentiometer unless I know there’s a good chance the solder points are touching
Hello jus I want to ask it’s true that you can pre load Swiss OS on the switch instead to boot from the cd? Like the Dreamcast mood you can preload the bios to boot from different devices
not sure about preloading it without using a CD - but there is an option in the swiss settings that tells the disk drive to stop spinning after it has loaded SWISS - this means the disk drive just fires up for the first 20seconds - then stops spinning once swiss is loaded. makes it way quieter - and it will save you disk drive in the long run
Yes mate, it will, I'm getting a gamecube 101 as well and gonna mod it with this xeno chip too, the process are all the same but the optical reading dvd potentiometer are different across all models so you always have to check it with a multimeter and slightly down a bit to not damage the lens.
NOOOO buy a multi meter and dont destroy ur optic drive laser. Its a seriously small turn i thought this guy changed his pot generously the first time cause he went down 100 ohms the first turn. Beside the point of it needing to read 150ohms to work. Try to turn it like 30ish ohms at a time. Ive been messing with pots on lasers by building them for fun. I have a handful of them so far.. anyways pots are very sensitive and if u havent done it before take precaution of being overly safe. Theres no stopping overdriving, that is how you over drive a laser. Less resistance means more power to laser
do yourself a favor and just use wires to connect it all up. so much better being able to see everything is connected up properly.. i had to desolder mine and do it again with wires because using the flooding the holes method I either didnt use enough solder - or it wasnt flush and I used too much solder and it made a bridge that I couldnt see..
No, because changing the pot is only for making it able to read unreadable discs. Somr gamecubes need a pot adjustment for regular nintendo cds from age or soemthing. I was thinking, what if we can buy nicer mini dvd r that is easier to read
Being that the Railtek dvd-r disks aren't readily available anymore, is there a reliable alternative? I have a zeno modded Gamecube, but don't want to waste money on a brand that won't work. Thanks!
Like Joshua said. I did my first ever modchip install with this chip and thought I soldered correctly. Powered and everything, but for some reason would not boot swiss disc. Removed with solder sucker. Had to install a new chip with wire and alternate points since some lost the contact.
I couldnt remove mine with solder wick. I had to use a hot air gun quite scary for me lol. I used wick as much as I could - and then hot air gun until it wiggled free
@@harrisonfordyce6982 It is explained in the video at 7:20. In short home burned discs are darker than original discs from the factory. Industrial disc burners can be much more powerful than the two in one’s we can have in a pc. If you want to read data from a darker disc you need a stronger laser, this is what we do with the resistance adjustment of the potentiometer. So that adjustment is only needed if you are going to use home burned discs. Which means that if you use original discs you won’t need to adjust that.
I know this won’t happen well for me & also of probably because it’s a lot to ask for & man or women hours etc but if a moder would do this or have his or her own shop where you can pick out the stuff you want on the mod like for me for my GameCube I’d have the entire catalog of nes ,all era of gameboy’s , snes , n64 ,n3ds & GameCube only both U.S. & Japanese imports & hopefully it would all work perfectly but hey that’s only a dream of mine oh well at least I threw it out there
I was going to do the Xeno mod, But after some investigating, having to tune the optical drive to even use a swiss boot disk you burned means my official GC games on disk will have trouble loading. So I would be forced to use ISO images on SD cards. I decided just to pay about 10 times more for a Black Dog GC Loader that replaces the optical drive.
You can still boot official games after turning the laser up it just needs to increase to read the other type of discs but it will just have more than enough power to read official disks
@@xshadowxless8906 i tried burning a few copies of swiss but they never worked.. - I think my burner cannot burn slow enough. I ended up buying one off ebay off some french dude with a proper burner - works great
Very poor soldering. It almost looks like you might have bridged the 2 pads on either side of that "connector" with that giant blob of solder. I'd recommend applying solder to the pad first before mounting the chip as it will allow a better solder connection and produce less of a bulge and more of a bridge.
To those who are inexperienced in this type of thing take my advice and just pay someone more experienced. Usually mall's will have at least one gaming shop that can help you. I tried to add a backlit color screen to my gba and ruined it in the process and it went straight into the trash.
All u gota do is burn your own iso gamecibe games. Many people do this to play digital games from the missing port from dol101 called sd2sp2. You will be able to play any disc with this mod. Therefore a swiss disc can be read which then plays digital games

Great video buddy, really easy to understand. I'm gonna give a go.
What happened to that video about homebrew & Swiss?
Solid tutorial and great explanation of the POT and why/how to do it
Great video and well explained. Thank you!
Cant thank you enough, worked like a charm on my spice orange gamecube :)

After installing the xeno my controllers don't work. Any help?
I hope you solved this friend
Also, where did you get that pediomater from?
Do the games seem to work as good as the original?
After I install it the disc won’t spinning can some one help me
Finally. A good tutorial
Don’t this mod chip let you use GBI for your gameboy player ?
You can burn a copy of the game boy disc. Or make a swiss disc and use gbi loader

what discs are you using for burning?
I think he's using DVD-R mini. not to sure but i saw another modder using DVD-R mini and it was working for them.
Ridata mini DVD.
Nice video!
I just need to calibrate it an inch or two huh? Thanks for the info, I'm working on getting some game back ups for my Gamecube

What's the best way to remove a defective chip if solderd directly to the board? Is using Solder wick sufficient?
solder wick and solder sucker.

Yes
Will the xeno chip make it region free? Because I want to get a orange GameCube
Yes
Will you need to pot. Tweak if you are just wanting to un lock the region?

Can it read both
150ohm seams extremely low.
Most experienced moders if talked to so far recommend staying above 300ohm
Some models start at 300-600 ohms, other models are 100-300ohm. It is low
