Apparently, according to IMDB, Natalie Portman and Keira Knightley resembled each other so much in full costume and makeup, that when Knightley's mother visited the set, she had trouble identifying her own daughter. That's good casting!
Good facial wise, but Knightley was terrible in this film, absolutely no emotion whatsoever. People talk about Hayden Christensen being emotionless, but I think Knightley is a million times worse.
Honestly, I wish we got to see more of Gui-gon-Jinn, he was a badass jedi master. Not to mention, Ewan McGregor was born to play jedi knight Obi-wan-Kenobi...
If you want more of Qui-Gon & Obi-Wan? May I recommend the Schoolastic book series Star Wars Jedi Apprentice? It's an old series from the early 2000s. It's about Obi-Wan & Qui-Gon's adventures before The Phantom Menace. If I were you, I'd check on Ebay.
Star Wars Episode 1 was the FIRST movie that got me into the franchise and i still love it today. Though i will say that Revenge of the Sith is the best out of the Prequels.
When people mock Episode I, believe me I get it. But two things I will defend about it are that considering all the flaws this movie has, the good stuff overshadows the bad. And I still believe The Phantom Menace is better than Attack of the Clones.
I'll say this about Ep. 1: It's the best looking of the Prequels. This one was filmed on actual sets, whereas the rest of the prequels were mostly green-screen.
Here were the positives of Episode I that I found from my first viewing to NOW..... - Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan pulling out their sabers in awesome Jedi action - The Pod Race - Qui-Gon and Shmi talking about Anakin, which ALONE sets a good standard for Anakin as a character - The open worlds
That Yoda quote makes sense to me, not only does it describe the human path that often leads to suffering around the world, but it could double as an indicator that the Jedi have become stifled and stagnated.
When suspect said "how does fear...lead to anger....then the dark side?" I immediately thought to myself: "Has he never heard of/read Mary Shelly's Frankenstein?" Literally the easiest thing to reference. Yoda's quote makes perfect sense in universe, and out.
I don't know, aotc was great in tanking some great concepts. Crime story, assasins in big city with flying cars, hidden army of clones, huge battle on desert and arena, villains becoming far more belivable when they lose trust in republic and democracy, from deleted scene padme development. Lets put her history together, she was elected queen (for those who don't belive monarchs can be elected please read a book) bring suffering on her people which makes her see Senate in "full glory" as bunch of incompetent loud people, finishes old conflict with Gungans and after she lost her throne she continues her mission to help people with evacuations (which ended up as tragedy) and support of democracy! Thing that failed her last time! This is strong role model but somehow nobody put it in words! Oh I suppose to say more about episode 2? It is mess of a movie and because it is prequel we know who will survive the battle since we SAW effects of their work. I really wish it was better.
Darth Perfidious He's gonna review the entire series. Just not all in a row. Next he's doing a Top 10 Video, then he'll probably review TASM 2. Maybe he'll review Attack of the Clones after that.

Yoda's line: "Fear is a path to the dark side. Fear leads anger, anger leads to hate, hate leads to suffering." This line describes Anakin's life leading to his fall and becoming Darth Vader. Anakin fears losing his mother, meaning that she will not survive without him with her, that is what he fears. His fears are realized in Ep 2, when his mother dies in his arms and he becomes angry at the tuskens because he blames them for killing Shmi. His anger stays with him through out the Clone Wars and it builds with the losses of friends, battles, and the sacrifices he had to make in order to save a friend or conquer a battle. That anger then builds to the boiling point of hate when he gets "trapped" on Coruscant during the last days or weeks leading to the end of the Clone Wars, until he falls to the dark side for righteous meanings but ends up losing sight of those meanings. After fighting Obi-Wan Kenobi and being left for dead on the lava banks of Mustafar, the last bit of Yoda's line comes true: Anakin's hate carried him through the fight until the very end when he falls to the lava banks, burning and suffering. He remained suffering for the rest of his life until Luke saves him in Ep 6. This is why Anakin's story through out the six main films is a tragedy.

Ok, here's what the prequels are, honestly: A series of films with really good ideas that could have been executed much, MUCH better than they were. Do I think they're good movies? No. Do I watch them from time to time because there's some awesome stuff in there and the bad stuff is fun to laugh at? Yes. As far as the lightsaber fights go my favourite is still to this day Luke vs. Vader in episode VI there is something about that fight that is so visceral the choreography is actually good (comparing it to Episode IV wich is just sad) and the emotions between Luke and Vader are so strong you can almost grab them how real those emotions are. Every strike and parry carries a meaning and emotion and the music is soo powerful there....not even prequel fights managed to invoke such feelings inside me. I think the problem with prequel fights is that they are obvious choreography and that the strikes don´t carry much weight to them whereas you can feel the weight of each strike in ROTJ fight between Vader and Luke especially when Luke gets pissed and completely annihilates Vader.
tbh I think Anakin and Padme's relationship being painful and awful in II and III is intentional to some degree. He's been a Jedi for ten years, taught to abandon all his attachments, and he's reintroduced to a girl he likes when he's a moody, emotional teenager. He doesn't know what the hell he's doing and Hayden Christensen sells that.
The novel actually fixes a lot of flaws. Besides the fact there is no terrible acting in a book, some moments have been revisited and revised, like, Qui-Gon & the company visit multiple shops in Mos Espa in search of a generator, and Qui-Gon actually tells Shmi that the money from selling the podracer wasn't nearly enough to buy her off. And surprisingly, Jar-Jar isn't that annoying on paper as he is on screen.
I love your comedy Unusual Suspect, you remind me very much of the critic. That is, when the nostalgia critic was actually funny, and I feel like he's an inspiration of yours. Really like your stuff, it's like if NC didn't start view-whoring and just kept making funny content. Love your vids, keep it up!
If this review was made today, in the post-The Rise of Skywalker world, the last part of Suspect's verse in the hoedown would go like this: "There was something you could have done Obi-Wan you nobhead, if you just used some damn Force Healing then Qui-Gon wouldn't be dead!"
I love these reviews so much that I watch em when I go to bed at night.. Not because they are boring but because I need noise to fall asleep and well, This helps like heck! Keep up the AMAZING work. been here for a very long time.
I actually really like the prequel trilogy. Sure, it's nowhere near as good as the original trilogy, nor is it as good as Force Awakens or Rogue One, but I still find a lot to enjoy in it. I love Ewan McGregor as a young Obi wan Kenobi, Chancellor Palpatine really gets a chance to shine in Revenge of the Sith, the fight between Janga Fett and Obi wan on Kamino is great, as well as the asteroid fight between them in space, the music is all amazing, Darth Maul is awesome, and the fight between Qui-Gon Jinn, Obi Wan, and Darth Maul is epic, as well as the fight between Obi Wan and Anakin in Revenge of the Sith
Time for my yearly re-watch of the master piece of content that is your Star Wars reviews. It’s aged like a fine red wine. You truly were ahead of your time with this content and the extent you edited. Jokes make me laugh even all these years later. Weird to think I hadn’t even left school when I first saw these and now I have a full on career and will be getting married once I have the savings 😂
+wallflowercat I get thumbs up instead? :) No but seriously I agree with the video. I love Episode 1 more than 2 and 3. I grew up with Return of the Jedi, we didn't have the first two until they were released or recorded off of the television. I was like 13 when TPM came out and I got obsessed with it, drove people around me nuts and constantly rented the playstation 1 TPM game until my parents gave in and brought for me ^^ Suspect's review on the game is awesome! I also went bonkers in my teens buying up books for the films and I had the official dolls too. They never released a freaking Obi-Wan doll :( still upset over that! DX
Just came across your channel. Wish i would have found it years ago. But better now than never! Love your editing, comedic style, and overall method of reviewing. Subscribed! PS, I think I like you more than Nostalgia Critic who I have been with since the beginning!
Does this mean you'll try to be positive for the next two? Good luck with Attack of the Clones. It is refreshing to see someone defend the Phantom Menace, I am frankly sick of all the prequel bashing. I mean there is plenty wrong with them, but as this review shows there are a lot of positives as well, which people often forget in their fervour to criticise. Great review as always looking forward to the next one.
+intergalactic92 I like the prequels, well I was 13 when TPM came out in '99. I like that one more because of the memories with playing the playstation game and collecting all the books for the movie, like Jedi Apprentice and all that geek good stuff :) ReturnoftheJedi is my fave as a little kid I grew up with that one. I had all the complete soundtracks too because JOHN WILLIAMS. My bedrooms walls were plastered with posters, I had the Queen Amidala dolls. I can't hate this film xD
The Reason why you disagree with what Yoda says The Usual Suspect is because you are correct. But here is the thing. The Jedi and the Sith are two extremes of opposite ideals. Jedi worry about fear, the Sith use fear. The answer is in the middle. The Jedi are correct of some things, but so are the Sith, the answers are in the middle in the Grey area, and Grey Jedi are the most correct. But neither the Jedi or the Sith choose to look towards the other side even a little to see the benefit of using both sides. So when you disagree with what Yoda says you're correct, but the Jedi are extreme in that direction just as Sith are in the opposite. So yes the Jedi ARE wrong about some things, because their perspective is so in that direction, just like the Sith ^_^
+carrastealth I always got rubbed the wrong way on how Yoda and Mace and the Jedi council would berate and bait Anakin, like they don't want to give him special treatment and just treat him like he doesn't even belong with them. Don't get me wrong I'm not defending Anakin or whatever, just that their arrogance made Palpatine all the more appealing for Anakin to run and sulk to and for Palpatine to paint the Jedi in a bad light to Anakin.
wallflowercat they treated Qui-Gon the same way because Qui-Gon leaned toward the "Grey" ideals of the Jedi, understanding both the light and the dark side. He was considered a 'radical' thinker, which is why he wasn't allowed on the Council. And why, quite frankly, he would have been the perfect master for Anakin. His death, changed essentially everything and likely delayed Anakin's destiny of destroying the Sith and the Emperor. But yes the Jedi can be frustrating with their ideals being so black and white, and so can the Sith. That's why the answers are always in the middle. So when people bring up the contradictive nature of the Jedi as a 'flaw' of the film of sorts, it really isn't. The Jedi are as in the wrong as the Sith on some things because they are two sides of one extreme when the answers are in the center, but both sides are too into what they believe to see it. I think Lucas pulls that off extremely well at times.
8. Attack of the Clones (7.5/10) 7. The Phantom Menace (8/10) 6. Revenge of the Sith (8.5/10) 5. Rogue One (8.5/10) 4. The Force Awakens (9/10) 3. A New Hope (9/10) 2. The Empire Strikes Back (9.5/10) 1. Return of the Jedi (10/10)
Under normal circumstances I'd be pissed that Force Awakens got ranked higher than at least Revenge of the Sith. On the other hand, I'm happy that you rank 'Jedi' as #1; my favorite as well (ridiculously underrated).
Thank you...i loved this movie. I don't think a single kid that grew up with star wars and was still young when this came out truley hated it. I had 10 years of loving these (obviously flawed) movies. And one day I woke up and it was fashionable to hate on them.
35:02 Qui-Gon and the rest of the Jedi are already training Anakin to be a child soldier, so I guess Qui-Gon figured he was old enough for some field experience.
THANK YOU FOR LIKEING THE PHANTOM MENACE. I liked it too it's a great follow up to the original Star Wars and doesn't deserve all the hate. AWESOME REVIEW as ALWAYS CAN'T WAIT FOR YOUR ATTACK OF THE CLONES AND REVENGE OF THE SITH REVIEWS.
This was one of my favorite movies growing up, and I saw it in theaters twice and bought the VHS as soon as I could. I knew every line almost by heart, and it was my introduction to Star Wars as a series. 15 years later, I discovered that everyone on the internet apparently thought it was one of the worst, god-awful movies ever to be placed on this planet. I still love it, although now, I am aware of all the things it did wrong. But it wasn't the horrific abomination everyone makes it out to be.
The best characters in the prequel trilogy where Palpatine, Dooku, Obi Wan, Quick gon Jinn, Darth Maul, and General Grievous. If they added Assajj Ventures I would add her to that list too but she was not.
You are super underrated and you deserve so much more credit. You sir are on the same level with anyone on the league of super critics. Keep up the great work!
Here’s an eight option to get of Tatooine. Right after leaving Watto’s shop Qui Gon passes Jedi Knight Quinlin Vos. He could have easily asked him for a lift.
Giovanni Alckmim Russo I know, but it's my first video and when Suspect announced this on facebook I made of a sort of bet with myself that I could get mine out first. That failed, as you can see, so mine will be both the slower one and the worse video. Oh well.
The Ponderer Don't worry man. I made my first vlog one week ago using my webcam. Even if the video be very simple, sometimes simples stuffs are enough.

Yoda's line: "Fear is a path to the dark side. Fear leads anger, anger leads to hate, hate leads to suffering." This line describes Anakin's life leading to his fall and becoming Darth Vader. tbh I think Anakin and Padme's relationship being painful and awful in II and III is intentional to some degree. He's been a Jedi for ten years, taught to abandon all his attachments, and he's reintroduced to a girl he likes when he's a moody, emotional teenager. He doesn't know what the hell he's doing and Hayden Christensen sells that.
I think it’s better in III but yeah
Is it bad that I think Anakin is a better character than Rey?
FOX-Men Fan Guy To be fair at least he isn’t a Mary Sue like Rey
TheDestroyer2alltrolls because he isn’t a real character. He’s an emotionally stilted, psychically suppressed, indoctrinated, boy who never grew up
@@jonesinator47
No, it's actually a good thing. You have a common sense
Episode 1: Not that bad
Episode 2: Bad
Episode 3: Awesome
HAPPY TWENTIETH ANNIVERSARY TO THE PHANTOM MENACE!
*Kermit YAAAAAAY!*
YES GIVE ME THIS VIDEO, IN MY FACE
ahhhh Its you again love you Hoodo
+HoodoHoodlumsRevenge Love your videos man!
Hey I love your videos
Sure why not
+HoodoHoodlumsRevenge Star Wars Ep. 1 creepypasta confurmed?
One of the most original reviews of Phantom Menace I've seen
Love this review! LOL @ Kitster's reaction 21:23. I'm glad you pointed that out and for the clever nod to the RLM review! *thumbs up*
I love that scene with Bart tuning into the RedLetterMedia review for epsiode 1. lol well played
we'll be here till Christmas....
... 2073 LOL!!!
Tatyana Lomazina The book is always better than the movie.
If this review was made today, in the post-The Rise of Skywalker world, the last part of Suspect's verse in the hoedown would go like this:
"There was something you could have done Obi-Wan you nobhead, if you just used some damn Force Healing then Qui-Gon wouldn't be dead!"
people they actually made a scene where Jar Jar dies... im not kidding it got deleted
So... are you going to review the rest of them?!
+Trent Kelsey Yeah; once I've done Die Hard and Amazing Spider-Man 2 I plan to get to work on Ep. 2 :)
+The Unusual Suspect And I know you said you weren't going to, but I still think you should review Home Alone 4
+The Unusual Suspect And I know you said you weren't going to, but I still think you should review Home Alone 4
+The Unusual Suspect i do say that ep. 2 is bad but i think it has the best fight scenes out out of all of them like the battle on geonosis.
+Wesgasm x (WH) no end of episode 3 is the best fight scean
Suspect editing himself into scenes never gets old XD
I just realized the music at Qui Gon’s funeral is the same that plays as Anakin transforms into Darth Vader.
I love these reviews so much that I watch em when I go to bed at night.. Not because they are boring but because I need noise to fall asleep and well, This helps like heck! Keep up the AMAZING work. been here for a very long time.
22:55 You know what's coming and it still startles you.
I didn't and I had it on full volume...
Star Commander lol
Star Commander
Oh no! 😂😂 Does anyone know where the guy saying “GO!!!” at 22:55 is from?

I CANT WAIT FOR THE Episode 2 review!!!!
Yeah
Me too
I actually really like the prequel trilogy.
I like this one. This one grabs me more than the earlier ones due to the effects.
thumbs me down for knowing every line in this film by heart XD
DX
Raise hand if watching this at Christmas 2073
*Hand goes up*.
Yup
Well I’m a long way away in a galaxy far far away soooo how would I know?
There are a lot of time travelers in the comments apparently.
One does not simply review the phantom menace without mentioning duel of the fates.
Man your reviews are some of the funniest things I have ever seen on youtube. So glad I found your channel
They get bashed because they're terrible films.
😄😄
Love me some dead-sticks.
*Death-sticks
The gray jedi are my favourite part of the extended Universe :D
+Jasper Daugaard Jolee Bindo is one of my favorite jedi...
28:50 Great cameo by Mr. Plinkett... hahaha
finally, a positive review. you do realize this is the first star wars film i saw, and i immediately got hooked to the franchise.
8. Attack of the Clones (7.5/10)
7. The Phantom Menace (8/10)
6. Revenge of the Sith (8.5/10)
5. Rogue One (8.5/10)
4. The Force Awakens (9/10)
3. A New Hope (9/10)
2. The Empire Strikes Back (9.5/10)
1. Return of the Jedi (10/10)
david huey yeah though I never did really like revenge of the sith that much
Hmm I agree except I’d switch Return of the Jedi with empire strikes back
Ultimate Hedgehog 7.5/10
Rogue one was better than Force Awakens
Also, New Hope should be 2, Empire should be 1.
But I respect your opinion.
Under normal circumstances I'd be pissed that Force Awakens got ranked higher than at least Revenge of the Sith. On the other hand, I'm happy that you rank 'Jedi' as #1; my favorite as well (ridiculously underrated).
I now liked to see your first review of this film.
up next is your review of episode 2... no wonder its taking so long.
Same I always keep checking
Wait no longer, it is out. YAAAAYYYY!!!!!
Thank you...i loved this movie. I don't think a single kid that grew up with star wars and was still young when this came out truley hated it. I had 10 years of loving these (obviously flawed) movies. And one day I woke up and it was fashionable to hate on them.
The bit with boss bass and the dwarves literally slayed me...If I die it's totally worth it.
#Suspectforjedicouncil
35:02 Qui-Gon and the rest of the Jedi are already training Anakin to be a child soldier, so I guess Qui-Gon figured he was old enough for some field experience.
19:24 Funniest tribute to Jar Jar I've ever seen! xD
"A positive review for this movie." AKA The type of review this movie actually deserves.
Suspect singing made my day
The best characters in the prequel trilogy where Palpatine, Dooku, Obi Wan, Quick gon Jinn, Darth Maul, and General Grievous. If they added Assajj Ventures I would add her to that list too but she was not.
I still get chills from Darth maul being revealed behind the doors
I laughed way too hard at the 'Dick move' joke
This guy could counter the Nostalgia Critic!
The difference is is he's not so full of himself like the Critic ;)
John Striker True! His Force Awakens video sucked compared to this gold!
Today I was shot down by the girl I like, so coming home from work to find this in my subscriptions feels absolutely great :)
She shot you with a gun
With a gun of dented pride, hurt feelings and an unshakeable sense of loneliness, yeah
Did you die?
I died from the waist up, I'm typing this with my peen.
Hang in there, buddy. Plenty of fish in the sea.
You are super underrated and you deserve so much more credit. You sir are on the same level with anyone on the league of super critics. Keep up the great work!
Hey TheUnusalSuspect, promise me you'll never stop making these videos. It always makes my day when I see a new upload from you
If the politics of the Prequels bore you, study Ancient Roman policy. It's very much the same
At least revenge of the sith was a better prequel.
+rene rodriguez (xray19) Agreed. Compared to the other two, Episode III was a masterpiece.
+PolillaBenG I wouldn't say masterpiece.
+PolillaBenG well yeah I guess.
+rene rodriguez (xray19) Revenge of the Sith is awesome!!!
revenge of the sith was the best star wars movie... well, not the best but WAY better than episodes 1 and 2 right unusual suspect???
Imagine the kid from 6th sense playing Anakin instead.
0:27 FINALLY , a reviewer who apreciates this master piece .
Here’s an eight option to get of Tatooine. Right after leaving Watto’s shop Qui Gon passes Jedi Knight Quinlin Vos. He could have easily asked him for a lift.
Holy shit I didn't realize the Asian accents until now
racist:
theunmaskedninja you may not noticed it, but your brain did.
Shiiiiiiiiiiiiit. I WAS GONNA REVIEW THIS IN A VAGUELY POSITIVE AND CONSTRUCTIVE LIGHT FIRST, DAMNIT!
+The Ponderer Then do it, there is no problem in making a video about something that someone else already did.
Keira Knightley was only 13 when this movie was filmed.
Jesus, really?
Way younger than I thought
Wasn't she 12? she was born in 1985 and this was filmed in 1997
@Fionn OC The Jedi he said filmed, it wasn’t filmed and released in the same year.
Great review. As a fan of the prequels myself it's refreshing to see a positive review of them for a change. Keep up the good work
Gotta acknowledge the fact that this year marks the 20th anniversary of The Phantom Menace.
I will say, the originals have tons of flaws, anyone who says they don't. ARE BLIND..
