  • So the Phantom Menace was a disappointment to say the least. But no matter; Lucas will have learned from his mistakes, Ep. II's gonna be awesome! Right?..... right?
    Massive thank you to Belated Media for your cameo! Check out the kick-ass animation he and his brother worked on here: • Obituary - A Grave Beg...

      +themetalstickman It's a shame that it isn't since it explains exactly how Palpatine got kidnapped right before Episode 3, why Grevious is coughing all the time and who Ventress actually is since the new one takes place after the last things. In the case of Palpatine being kidnapped, they hadn't gotten that far yet.
      Plus Grevious was insanely OP in that series.

      original clone wars is CN clone wars, the canon clone wars is the REAL clone wars. ;3 plus the CN wars was a dissapointment & was too short and brought in randoms we hardly knew about killing them off too soon. The animated however is epic & felt like REAL Star Wars. They didn't write off ventress too soon. CN wars had a lot of missed opportunities. In comparision to lucasfilm animations The Clone Wars.

    • @peppermillers8361
      @peppermillers8361 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Jib Jib both were broadcast on CN, though.
      And Ventress showed up in the original Clone Wars comic books later on, so no, they didn't write her off.

    To give this movie and episode 3 some credit, at least they gave us the greatness that is Christopher Lee as a Sith Lord. I mean, besides the lacking physicality, the dude was perfect for the roll. Anyone else agree? Also Rest in Peace Christopher Lee.

      I think we can go a step further and say (at least in my opinion) that a lot of the villains were the best parts about the prequels. (Maul, Dooku, Grevious, Palpatine). Although this is coming from the guy who thought that the fight scene with Dooku was somewhat interesting. At least with the parts of Dooku going all "Boy!" and throwing Anakin to the wall with force lighting, Anakin's short lived dual wielding, and Dooku and Yoda recreating the first part of Ocarina of times Gannon fight with force lighting. But hey that's just me.

    • @LeftytheGansterGremlin

      If you read the Expanded Universe stuff, they do Christopher Lee and his character justice. Not only is Dooku the best duelist second to Yoda, but dude has an amazing backstory and highly understandable. It really feels like Christopher Lee himself was in those pages.

    7:55 Actually, the Jedi were forbidden from even THAT kind of emotional attachment. To them, grief was synonymous with jealousy. I you loved something, you'd refuse to let it go and thus go against the will of the force.
    Basically, the Dark Side is represented by strong emotions and putting yourself before others. And the jedi were so paranoid of turning to the Dark Side that they rejected ANY kind of personal desire or emotion. Which ironically made them EASIER to corrupt.
    Later on, after the Sith had crushed them, both Obi-wan and Yoda realised how stupid this mindset had been, which is why Obi-wan was willing to admit that Anakin had been his friend.

      I mean if you never dealt with something then how can you know how to resist temptation? It part of Lucas plan, I mean if Jedi allowed but taught one how to not it effect you thoughts,choices and morals then imagine how different Anakin would be! He wouldn’t slaughter the raiders, he would have just taken his mother and if they try to attack him he would use the force and also Paplatine would have no way of turning Anakin because he see right through it.
      Anakin:”Im not going to do what you want, I was being silent to both be polite and to hear what you say. So any other words?”
      Palpatine:…….
      Anakin:”Good. Senator you’re under arrest and you go to prison, you smith scam!”

    The Clone Wars TV show honestly does a much better job at making the characters interact with each other the way they're supposed to. Anakin and Padme's relationship is better, Anakin and Obi-Wan have much better banter with each other and, probably the most important thing, it makes Anakin likeable. Watching Clone Wars (which is canon by the way) made Anakin's fall to the dark side that much more tragic and meaningful after seeing the relationship he develops with a lot of the characters. Clone Wars did all the things Attack of the Clones failed at doing in my opinion, and it's a show aimed at kids. Loved the review by the way Suspect, keep up the good work :)

    • @StupidMarioBros1Fan
      @StupidMarioBros1Fan 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It helps that there were other people who worked on the script than just George Lucas, but yah it's a shame that it didn't happen in the movies.
      Also a shame that it was cancelled even though the script for Season 7 (and supposedly Season 8) were already finished. There are at least four episodes of Season 7 that have voice acting, and (horribly) unfinished animation that were leaked online. If you can get past the placeholder animations it's worth watching.
      At the very least, Rebels confirmed that Ashoka and Darth Maul survived Order 66, we'll be able to get proper endings for those two, and possibly any more CW characters that appear in the show.

    • @zGingerJackz
      @zGingerJackz 8 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      +StupidMarioBros1Fan I agree, and a lot of that unfinished footage was actually officially revealed at panels during events. Most recently they revealed what their plans were for Ahsoka's story right up until moments before Episode 3 starts.
      There were a lot of moments they discussed that would've happened in the final seasons of CW before they cancelled it and I wish they hadn't. I reckon Disney should've let them complete season 6 and wrap the CW arc up in a seventh season before moving on to Rebels, making Clone Wars an actual complete series.

    There's actually an explanation for Yoda's fighting. Yoda, being 300 years old, doesn't have the best in physical ability. So, he uses the force to enhance his physical ability, but only in short bursts. This means he tires quickly, and also explains why he had trouble lifting the pillar after the fight.

    Another alternative way to handle Zam Wessell in the night club is this - have her morph into Anakin, since he’s the only Jedi she saw close-up face-to-face. Then while Obi-Wan is having his drink, Anakin pulls out a blaster to shoot Obi-Wan. But all of a sudden Obi-Wan cuts off Anakin’s hand and it’s revealed to be Zam.
    This would be a clever use of visual foreshadowing in that a) Anakin will lose a hand (really an arm) and b) Obi-Wan WILL dismember Anakin in Episode III (really he slices off 3)

      Yeah EP 1 was the very first Star wars movie I ever saw, and I kinda liked it back then, nowadays I find it watchable with a few skips and it's pretty much saved by Qui-Gon Jinn's character (I just love Liam Neeson), but it's still not very good, not even for my usually low standards. For me Ep 2 was good at first, but on 2nd watch and each one after that was just meh with the same pros and cons Suspect mentions, especially the terrible dialogue written by a toddler with crayons, and on the positive side that it's visually good looking, Obi-Wan Kenobi's character, and most of the action scenes, etc.. However (and I know I'm going to get a lot of hate for this) with all it's flaws I freaking love Episode 3, I find it even better than 6.

    • @magnusgrant4146
      @magnusgrant4146 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I like them as well despite some of their problems but even some of the controversial elements like Jar Jar (he's annoying but he's not as hateful as people say he is), the romance (Lucas isn't good at writing romantic dialogue but I think it makes more sense when you take into account that Anakin is a young adolescent raised by the Jedi who's been forced to repress his emotions which makes him awkward at wooing Padme) or just the writing in general (do most people watch Star Wars for complex intricate dialogue?) don't bother me that much. I like Episodes I and II and in all honesty, Revenge of the Sith is my second favourite Star Wars behind Empire. I even like the prequels over Return of the Jedi. People complain about some of the most anal retentive stuff in the prequels but they can accept a race of teddy bears defeating the Empire. I love all seven films but even I can find flaws in each of them no matter how great the majority of the saga is.

      @brandonkrol 8 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      Because he was never good to begin with. Don't get me wrong I have a lot of respect for the guy, but everyone forgets that the acting in the original trilogy wasn't the best unless Alec Guiness was on set either. And the scenes that people had the most problems with were the ones he pushed the most. So should we really have been so surprised that the prequels were as bad as they were. Plus he only directed episode 4 when he was making the original trilogy, 5 and 6 he just produced. And he never directed another movie after that until he made the prequels. Which were all directed by him. And everyone who was involved in the production were pretty much yes men. Because they thought they were working with a genius so they just went along with whatever he said. As I said before I have a lot of respect for him, Episode 4 is my favourite movie. But I don't think he was ever that good of a director. But that's just me u might disagree with me, and that's cool. Let's just try to keep things friendly here. And I know that seems contradictory after I just fried someone. But still let's not get into any fights here.

    • @moehrepingu
      @moehrepingu 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Interesting facts I didn't know about the producer/director stuff.
      My favorite one is EP5 but I like 4-6 more mainly because of the chemistry between the main characters. There is just more interaction and the old movies feel a lot slower (esp. compared to 7 I think) so they just have more time to let you know their background story.

    • @QM571

    The best thing to do about this movie is to simply acknowledge it (not watch) and use it as ground base for the rest of the universe (canon and expanded). It's plot is tolerable when not directly on screen and without any references to hayden christensen (personnally I try to remember him as Matt Lanter)

    • @TheUnusualSuspect
      @TheUnusualSuspect  8 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Well technically she doesn't. She's 14 in The Phantom Menace and 24 in Attack of the Clones. But because the movie was filmed only 3 years after Ep. 1, it's a little hard to buy. Especially given Anakin's change of actor.
      I kinda wonder though how Jake Lloyd would've fared if they had actually waited 10 years to film Ep. II. If Jake Lloyd had continued acting (and therefore I'd have footage to work with), it'd have made an interesting 'change of actor' mashup. Like I did with Pierce Brosnan and Spectre.

    25:25 I think that was the point. Padme WAS interested in Anakin, but she also knew that it was forbidden for Jedi to love, AND that a Senator sleeping with a Jedi would be a massive political scandal. She was trying to use her head and avoid any kind of relationship, but she just couldn't help yourself. It's liek when you say you're only going to play ONE more hour of Arkham City because you've got work in the morning... Fast forward to twelve o'clock the next day and you STILL haven't finished playing.

But every time I rewatched it even as a kid I always fast forwarded the scenes with Anikan and Padme due to how cringeworthy they were. But the rest of the movie I still enjoy despite its flaws. Cant say whether I like 1 or 2 more since 1 always felt more disconnected from the other 5 (now 6) movies following it, but 3 is far and away my favorite prequel.

    Okay way to fix the animism rage scene. After losing his mother, he begins hearing the Emporsrs voice and his lightsaber glows red as he begins slaughtering the raiders in the most monstrous style possible. He then stops when he sees a mother protecting her child. He hesitates but has primal purges to kill until he sees a reflection in a mirror, seeing himself as Darth Vader. He’s shocked back into reality with his lightsaber turning back blue and realising what he’s done runs away, telling everyone about the mom but not the whole genocide thing, which haunts him as he sees himself as darth vader every time he looks in a reflection

      Well Ep. III won't be the next review (that'll be something I choose to do). But after that I'mma do another poll on my blog where Ep. III will be an option :)

      Hey Suspect would you agree Anakin and Padme's relationship was handled miles better in The Clone Wars.

    As always, your movie reviews are well worth the wait! I nearly died laughing several times throughout this one! Fantastic job, Suspect!

    "It's easily the worst duel of the series" a new hope's duel would like a word with you

      Well, at least it didnt look like a cartoon, and at least it was decently realistic, buty still very slow

      Plus the New Hope duel had some actual emotion behind it, and wasn't awkwardly choreographed and shot.

      At the least the lightsaber fights in the prequels were fun to watch, the only good lightsaber fight in the originals was the one in return of the Jedi

      typspyranger Not awkwardly choreographed? Dude, it's an old guy and someone in a massive suit just hitting their blades together. The duel was notorious for being awkward to shoot.

      I'd say both duels are equally bad. The Obi-Wan/Anakin/Dooku duel lacked the intensity of Duel of the Fates and even most of the duels in Episode III. You can tell because of Christopher Lee's age, they had to tone down on the choreography and used a lot of dark lighting to hide his stunt double. The Obi-Wan/Vader duel had kind of the same problem except because it was Guinness and Prowse performing it, all they did was hit their blades every few seconds and stand still with the odd moving about a few centimetres now and again.

    I love your alternate idea for the bar scene! Anakin attacking "Obi-wan" knowing it is actually Zam makes so much more sense, even though it might be considered copying the first X-Men movie where Wolverine attacks Mystique.
