Teddy and Marvin Gaye were my favourite singers during the 70's and 80's and I saw both of them in each decade. As the lead singer with Harold Melvin and The Bluenotes he was such a stand-out voice and the King of The Philly Label. " If you Don't know me by now " " Wake up everybody " etc,

He actually started to write it with Teddy in mind of performing it. Teddy's and Lionel's schedule didn't allow for them to link up. Lionel was close friends with Kenny Rogers, so at a birthday dinner for Kenny's wife and hearing him toast his wife as his Lady, inspired Lionel to change the title, finish it in the bathroom of the restaurant and give it to Kenny.

He sang for Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes group too. He became paralyzed from the waist down due to a car accident at the age of 31. He passed away in 2010 at 59 from respiratory failure, complications of his paralyzed condition. Very sexy like Marvin Gaye.

Teddy Pendergrass was with Harold Melvin and the Bluenotes before he went solo in the 70s and 80s. He was definitely in the PDC! Lionel Ritchie wrote Lady for Kenny Rogers and also recorded it as well.

The sad part is a few weeks later he was in a serious car accident which left him paralyzed also he was going to record this for his upcoming record but the accident stopped that and this is the only recording of it.

As an answer to your Question Britt Can you bring the grass has passed away 13 going 14 years now in 1982 he was involved in a car accident some say he was trying to talk to a girl out his car window and hit another car because he was distracted by her. I don’t believe this, however, one thing to be momentarily distracted but it’s another doing that would cause a car accident what even with that car accident paralyzing him he was able to continue his solo career Monday. He just stopped breathing having respiratory failure slightly. I want to wish you and your family the very best always, I love you for your videos and personality. Take care.
