'Walk Away From Love' was Ruffin's biggest solo hit since his 1968 huge hit 'My Whole World Ended' which was released after his firing from The Temptations. This 1975 hit was right in the middle of the Disco era and was produced by Van McCoy who had a huge hit himself with 'The Hustle'.
Sadly enough David Ruffin was one of many artists who found out that life outside of Motown wasn't all that easy. Also he was very difficult to be around, he was a brilliant performer and singer but he didn't have Berry Gordy in his corner like Diana Ross or even Smokey Robinson did. Van McCoy also worked with Gladys Knight & The Pips in their pre motown days and The Shirelles. The show you are watching him on is American Bandstand who made his first performance as a member of The Temptations. They, like The Four Tops, and Smokey Robinson appeared on Bandstand from the 1960's to the 1980's. Sadly he had a bad drug problem adn when he died of a overdose his fiances were in such dire straits he didn't have proper burial funeral. Michael Jackson paid for the funeral and Eddie Kendricks got arrested for being a deadbeat dad. When they were inducted into the Grammy Hall Of Fame, only Otis Williams collected his trophy. It was his only hit, but he did return in 1982 for Standing On The Top.
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂You got me in tears, when David hit that first high pitch note. I’m on the floor !😂😂😂😂She said look how looonng this man is.😅😅😅😅YOU…need a microphone and a stage ! I can’t breathe 😅😅
The pain in his voice reflects the pain in his heart and soul and when he died the pain finally stopped! Drugs, hangers on and pure letches sucked the life out of this wonderful man, but his music lives on forever, magnificent and emotional, one of the best of all time!
I absolutely loved this reaction, Britt! This was back when lyrics and sexiness REALLY mattered. It was dirty, explicit, or raunchy. No nakedness...just pure talent! ❤
🔥🔥🔥🔥David Ruffin🔥🔥🔥🔥. He Has A Few Hits Worth Listening To. This Was A Great Great Great Reaction To Ruffin👍🏾💯💯💯💯💯👍🏾Outstanding Music And An Iconic Voice..🔥DAVID RUFFIN🔥
Love his voice. He was the lead singer for the Temptations during 64-68 & is best known for the songs "My Girl" & "Ain't Too Proud To Beg." He also had a great solo career later. "My Whole World Ended (The Moment You Left Me)", "I Lost Everything I've Ever Loved", "I'm So Glad I Fell For You", "Common Man" "No Matter Where", "Who I Am" etc.
Hey Britt an artist that has the same disco beat and fabulous voice is Lou Rawls “You’ll Never Find another love like mine” a top hit of the late 70’s.
THIS BROTHA'S VOCAL FLUIDITY, PRESENCE AND PROWESS IS UNMATCHED IN THE ANALS OF "OLD SKOOL SOUL SINGERS"! DAMN....I MISS THIS QUALITY OF VOCAL TALENT AND DELIVERY. HE'S ON MY LIST WITH SAM COOKE AND JACKIE WILSON GROWING UP AND INTO THE 70S THEN REVISITING AS I GREW UP. UNIQUELY EXCELLENT.😳🎶🎵😄🥳😎
Back in the sixties and seventies we all wanted to be David Ruffin, black, white or brown, it didn't matter. His glasses were called DRs. I had em and I was a skinny white boy.
Those were the days when singers would move ppl. deeply. Every word they pronounced and why women fell in love with these male singers and touched women’s hearts.
Yeah my most faved is an't to proud to beg Mr ruffian was one of them voices that was like wow but so was all of the Temptations of there time He and the rest of the temps man they are Motown Gold@@brittreacts
My opinion is this song is the greatest song ever sung and expressed because of longevity never wavering quality. RIHP David, the best of the best!!!! ❤
You made the right decision. ✅ I understand your struggle to describe the style & the effect. 💗 I met someone who had that same intense charisma and those fluid movements (that inate rhythm) that puts you out of sorts. So funny and what an experience.
My answers relate to the UK music scene at the time. Many people knew of the Tempations (as they were by far the most prolofic act on the Tamla Motown label) but did not know of David Ruffin. His brother, Jimmy Ruffin had lots of UK top 20 hits and was very well known in the clubs. Please review Turn Back the hands of time by David & Jimmy Ruffin as it is unusual to hear them together. Loved your reaction to this timeless tearjerker.
Motown wasn't just one label, The Motown Record Corporation consisted of more than a dozen imprints, each with its own roster of artist and distinctive style. David Ruffin, Diana Ross, Mary Wells, The Supremes and the Four Tops were on the Motown imprint, Martha & The Vandellas, The Temptations, Kim Weston and The Contours recorded on the Gordy label. Tamla, the first of the corporations labels was home to The Miracles, Marvin Gaye, Smokey Robinson, Stevie Wonder, Barrett Strong, The Marvellettes, Brenda Holloway, The Isley Brothers just to name a few. The Motown sound, was as varied as its roster of recording artist.
David Ruffin was dealing with drug addiction and some serious domestic issues. In my opinion David Ruffin created something no one else but he could do! His drug addiction induced wreck of a life that caused The Temptations to kick him out of the group could not erase the vocal talent he had.
He's the greatest of all time in my opinion there wasn't a note he couldn't hit unfortunately this was one of his only hits as a solo artist, he also wrote a hit song for Harold Melvin & The Bluenotes titled I miss you with Teddy Pendergrass singing lead that he really doesn't get credit for.......
This was his last top 10 hit on the Billboard US Pop chart in late 1975 early 1976. Van McCoy was responsible for reviving David's career. David also had an R&B hit in the summer of 1976 with "Everything's Coming up Love". It is one of my favorite songs of his. There is a video on TH-cam from an appearance on Soul Train with David singing this song. It would be great if you would play that on your channel. Here is the link: th-cam.com/video/NyKe9SQctPg/w-d-xo.html
He has one of the best voices I’ve ever heard!

Love that song The Hustle. (Mostly instrumental). 🎵

Oh yes! Love the Hustle song and that was such a big hit and back in the days, everyone was dancing the hustle in the 70’s.
The voice............. Just love when youngins finally hear our music.
I sure do miss American band stand. On very Saturday. I got see a lot of talented people.
RIP. Dick Clark.
The original lead singer if the Temptations. RIP David.
Correction. He wasn't an original member, David replaced Al Bryant around 1964. He shared lead vocals with Eddie Kendricks.
@@Nomad-vv1gkHe was the first when the Temps finally started to make hit songs.
@@Nomad-vv1gk You are correct!
Listen to I wish it would rain. When he says eeeeease the pain. Best voice ever.
3: 22 "It wasn't perfect, it wasn't pretty but it was sexy." Your best quote yet. I'm gonna steal that. 😉
Goat Ruffin so underrated as the best ever 💯
Omg...haven't heard this forever...awesome
The LEGENDARY Iconic Mr David Ruffin ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

Statue Of A Fool is another great song of his
I absolutely loved this reaction, Britt! This was back when lyrics and sexiness REALLY mattered. It was dirty, explicit, or raunchy. No nakedness...just pure talent! ❤
Wasn't He The Finest? RIP The Mighty David Ruffin, such a sad end for such a talent. Xxx
Nice! good old time music!! 🎙️🎶
That's my $hit. This is my favorite David song.
The voice flows like a stream down a mountain and sweet like honey!
He has a cover version of I miss you by Herald Melvin and the blue notes and he and Eddie Kendrick had a duet named " the lonely hearts club"
This was a big hit for David. The best live performance is the Soul Train appearance. Check it out.
In the early 60's he was an Motown singer - David Ruffin: One of these days (on Berry Gordy's Anna Records) - has everything of a hit.
🔥🔥🔥🔥David Ruffin🔥🔥🔥🔥.
He Has A Few Hits Worth Listening To. This Was A Great Great Great Reaction To Ruffin👍🏾💯💯💯💯💯👍🏾Outstanding Music And An Iconic Voice..🔥DAVID RUFFIN🔥
Ooh I had forgotten about this song. Quintessential 70s song!

Magnificent song!! David Ruffin nails this one
Check the temperature, check the temperature! 😂😂😂
Walk Away From Love was David Ruffin's biggest solo hit.
Not his only hit post temps but his best!
David is my absolute favorite male singer from the 60's! I grew up with the Temps and still think David Ruffin is one of the very best singers ever!
One of your favorite artist and part of the PDC is Daryl Hall singing “Miss You” - Live from Daryl’s House. Talk about blue eye soul - he has it.
One of 5 best singers ever. Such a unique and powerful voice.
I agree honestly!
Back in the sixties and seventies we all wanted to be David Ruffin, black, white or brown, it didn't matter. His glasses were called DRs. I had em and I was a skinny white boy.
David Ruffin had a big hit in 1980 with the song Hold On To My Love.
Ruffin was one of the greatest singing voices of the 1960's/70's, you KNEw it was him the instant he came on the radio...
Those were the days when singers would move ppl. deeply. Every word they pronounced and why women fell in love with these male singers and touched women’s hearts.
Once lead singer for the temptations he got it tall dark and talented one of the kings
The Voice…Forever!
he was a Temptation Discovered by Berry Gordy and Smokey Robinson Motown Records. My most fava song is to Proud to Beg
That’s a classic
Yeah my most faved is an't to proud to beg Mr ruffian was one of them voices that was like wow but so was all of the Temptations of there time He and the rest of the temps man they are Motown Gold@@brittreacts
My Whole World Ended was another post Temptations huge hit by David Ruffin
Legend!!!! Top shelf. Among the best of the best of all time
Wish it would rain ❤❤❤
This man sang baritone, tenor, AND soprano well.
My opinion is this song is the greatest song ever sung and expressed because of longevity never wavering quality. RIHP David, the best of the best!!!! ❤

His brother Jimmy had a hit in 1979 with Hold On To My Love and in 1966 What Becomes Of The Broken Hearted.

At 3:13 is when you were in a state of euphoria.
😂
Definitely confidence and it work for him,and it’s who he is
Britt! It could be debated that the lead of the PDC from the Temptations is Eddie Kendrick and if you need an example, listen to Intimate Friends!
🔥🔥🔥
need to watch my whole world ended you will like
That was David Ruffin's brand there is no duplication. One of my favorite. This is not his only solo hit.
He also does a cover of “Rainy Night in Georgia” which is the best version of that song. His voice is haunting on that one.
I’ll check it out!
Your reactions are priceless, lol ☺️😃. Such great taste ❣️
David Ruffin was one of a kind
The greatest black male vocalist of all time .
it was his biggest post Temptations solo hit
Girl, every woman over 40 feels this way about David Ruffin. Lol 💙
Sadly Tammy Terrel never made it to 30!!
@@ThomasBeauchemin-z4b Agreed. Brain cancer is very, very sad. Tammy didn't deserve as rough of a life she had in such a short time.
You gotta do sam cooke pullleeasseee haha
Hey Britt. I like following producers and artists. This is a typical Van McCoy project. He’s the Do the Hustle guy (& so much more).
A different level yall😊
Also, the high voice of the Temptations, Eddie Kendricks, went solo. Play “Keep on Truckin’ “ by Eddie Kendricks
If they had a pill that would make my voice sound like a combination of David Ruffin and Teddy P., I would take three of them......
This was 1975, and he's performing on American Bandstand!
All the original Temptations members were tall “between 6’2 and 6’4”
You struck gold

Check out David Ruffin statue of a fool
one of the best voices in popular music! and one of my favorites-
You need to do Luther Ingram, If Loving You is Wrong. You’ll welcome him to the club. 😏
He gangsta
When the younger generation adores a forgotten genre. Try "Statue of a fool"
One of the better Singers...Try "My Girl" by The Temptations, when was the lead singer...
"King Osirus" ->Great Observation and Reporting.
The word is..........soul
Girl, Davis is the CEO of the club.
We need a playlist for The PDC 🔥💓🤣 I feel the need to binge watch so I only have to clean up once😁
Coming soon!
A soulful rugged resonance....how about that? 🤔
Great, great music! We used to say that you need a pilot’s license to wear collars like that! 😂
😂😂😂
You crack me up Britt 😂
Oh yes
The man can just Croon Blow Ruffin!!
I hope Ruffin's kids are watching this
Mother’s finest love changes if you haven’t already
Britt, please do David Ruffin's 'My whole world ended' (it's post temptations) where he is wearing the blue jacket and white pants. 💙
You should do 'Pieces of of man's by him too, he goes off on that one!
Definitely a 1975 hit … the song was played on all the top radio stations and clubs back in the day !!!
The song just started lol
Produced by Van McCoy of "The Hustle" fame.
said it before but I'll say it again...Ruffin set the standard for begging brothers. Such a shame he didn't take better care of himself.
This song after the group
He's the greatest of all time in my opinion there wasn't a note he couldn't hit unfortunately this was one of his only hits as a solo artist, he also wrote a hit song for Harold Melvin & The Bluenotes titled I miss you with Teddy Pendergrass singing lead that he really doesn't get credit for.......

I think you would enjoy Freddie Scott (Are you lonely for me baby)
