This song came out in mid 70s and ruled the radio summer of 74 for me. My favorite version. I fell in love with Ernie Isley's guitar! Yes they are brothers. Great memories!
Was in Toronto Walking around a park in the early 80's. Came across a free concert with the Isley brothers. Phenomenal show. Couldn't believe it was free.
The Isley Brothers are actual brothers- all of which only two remain: Ernie and Ronald, their last brother Rudolph passing just last year. I think that’s big boy! The Isley Brothers are a musical institution that’s been around for 8 decades, and yes we count having hits in 1959!!!
"Pimp vibes" pretty much describes men's fashion in the 70s. LOL Don't anybody argue with me. I was a young adult in the 70s. I remember! Another name for it was "lounge lizard."
THIS VERSION IS WAAAAAAAAYY BETTER THAN THE OTHER!!! Ask S/C, they’d probably agree. The Isley Bros are one of the greatest band ever also… they started in the 50’s and are still performing in 2024! For the record, Ernie Isley… Is one of the greatest guitar players as well. Not exactly sure why she chose a LIVE version… But actually, it doesn’t change anything for me… PURE FIRE! 🔥🔥🔥
Footsteps In The Dark, Voyage To Atlantis, and Between The Sheets just to get you started. They have several other hits, but these will get you started.
Ah yes, The Isley guys. The 3+3 album was killer. Ernie's guitar solo is epic. Me and my brothers wore the LP out in our upstairs bedroom. I can still 'air guitar' this solo to perfection!😂 (They also cover 'Listen to the Music' by Doobie Brothers and 'Don't Let Me be Lonely Tonight' by James Taylor the album.)
Even The Beatles covered the Isley Brothers hit record of “Twist and Shout” because they are an important part of Rock n Roll history. With a career spanning over seven decades, the group has enjoyed one of the "longest, most influential, and most diverse careers in the pantheon of popular music".
@@MichaelGris-u2o and the Beatles were fans of the Isley Brothers recording, and Jimi Hendrix worked, performed on guitar for the Isleys before he was discovered, and managed by British Chas Chandler (bassist for the Animals).
Summer Breeze is my go to summer song. It brings back memories of bbqs and hanging out with my friends with the radio playing and covered in baby oil trying to get a darker tan. This is nice but Seals and Croft have my heart and memories.
WHO'S THAT LADY, LIVE IT UP, THE PRIDE, L8VIN' IN THE LIFE, & FIGHT THE POWER. These are some of the best songs from their 7o's run of hits. Best be ready to dance, cuz I know you like to. Thus is why their are covers of songs. Some prefer the originals, some prefer a different version. But it only speaks to the material being good enough to adapt to a variety of singers and styles. Stop with the fashion. If you like it, just say so. It was the 7o's girl. Between disco and the street style of the day, yes, the pimp look was popular. Maybe the Summer was blowing through her hair while they got busy in the field and jasmine filled the air. they are brothers. Keep going and enjoy
Yes, Brothers. Earnie Isley on guitar. I miss the outfits (platform shoes included) and the hair from back then. This song is so good that I wanted a cigarette afterward. I don't smoke at ALL!!! Ron has a duet with Rod Stewart from the 80's which is awesome, "This Old Heart of Mine".
Their were several formation of the Isley Brothers 57-71 Ronald, Rudolph, and O’Kelly / 72-84 Ronald, Rudolph, O’Kelly, Ernie, Marvin, and Chris Jasper / 85-86 Ronald, Rudolph, and O’Kelly / Ronald and Rudolph / 87 Ronald (at the same time Ernie Marvin and Chris Jasper had a group called “Isley Jasper Isley”) / 95-97 Ronald, Marvin, And Ernie/ 2001-present Ronald and Ernie.
It doesn't matter what song is better, it's how the song makes you feel, but even better when you hear this song after days gone by and it reminds you of either a good time or a bad time.
Isley Brothers are mostly Brothers with different members since the 50's - Twist & Shout, That Lady (Latin 60's-Version), 70's That Lady, 80's Don't Let, Harvest to the world a.s.o. Ronald Isley was in jail for not paying income taxes - the inmates did everything for him due to good times with their girlfriends (the same things when listening to Barry White). Lot's of great albums like Between the sheets, Givin'it back (they made after Ohio university shooting (demonstration - police killed students).
If you've heard any Isley songs, it's likely "Who's That Lady?" which is probably their biggest hit. Yes they are real brothers, but only 2 are alive now. Ronald Isley is the lead singer, and he is legendary. The lead guitarist is his brother Ernie Isley.
YOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!! As a older gentlemen, I grew up on all old school (then school) r&b / funk / soul /reggea in Cleveland Ohio and Nyc so ,,, when i saw you were gonna react to this!!!......... I knew you werent going to be ready. And your response!!!!! AAAYYYYEEEEOOOOOO! im dying over here. love your reactions. I subbed. KEEP REACTING AND BEING YOU! LUV IT.
Well, you know anytime a song is sung with Soul, it's bound to sound drastically different than that of the version sung without Soul. Whitney Houston's Soul version of "I'll always love you" by Dolly Parton sounds drastically different from Dolly Parton's Western original 1974 version. Great singers and songs, just sung differently with their own personal spin to it. great reaction video Britt.
This is a great find. Thanks bringing it to us. I saw Seals & Croft in concert in 1976. They sucked. It was the worst concert that I ever went to, This is 100% more entertaining.
Ronald, O’Kelly and Rudolph are the older brothers, then younger brothers Ernie, Marvin and Cousin Chris Jasper joined them here on this album. Currently the Isley Brothers are Ron and Ernie , still touring and making music today .. fun fact - the amazing legendary guitarist Ernie Isley has a daughter , Alex Isley , she is one of the dopest new artists the last 10 years , you should check her out…
Summer Breeze on a steamy summer night, sweat on the brow, waiting on your SO vs Summer Breeze in the drop top by the beach or in the park waiting on the bbq to finish cooking 😂
It was necessary in the times because music on the radio stations was somewhat segregated. Often songs were redone with an intention to appeal to different audiences.
When a tribute is that different from the original, you just hope they do a good job with it. I'd like to think Seals & Crofts appreciated that as a worthy tribute. I sure did.
I’ve never heard this version, and I wouldn’t have recognized it from the beginning, but the instrumentation keeps the melody. I think I have to say I prefer the Seals and Crofts version, but the Isley Brothers certainly take it to another level!
Seals and Crofts played hourly on radio in fall of 1973. Senior year of high school. Brings so many memories. This version, I have never heard until now. It is good. But like the original better. But you do need to react to the Isley's though singing Who's That Lady.
Hahaha! Girl, get u some history!! Old guys like me grew up with this! 70s funk and R&B is the S%!t!!!! This is gettin busy music!!!!In the late 70's we wore "Angels Flight " polyester pants so tight one could tell your religion. It was frightening but hot at the time.
You might also consider both versions of Layla by Eric Clapton. The original with electric guitar and the 2nd years later with acoustic guitar. Also the Beatles 2 versions of Revolution. The one on the White Album and the one they released as a single.
Unlike The Doobie Brothers, The Isley brothers are brothers, 6 brothers and one brother-in-law I think, Chis Jasper. Who later joined up with two of the Isley Brothers to form the group " Isley Jasper Isley " they had hits like "Caravan of Love "and "look the other way" by Isley Jasper Isley, check it out great songs. Oh, and their pants in the video are only tight by today's standards of wearing pants. Back then pants were actually warned too properly fit our bodies, not like the baggs and saggs of pants today.
I LOVE both Seals & Croft and The Isleys. They are a part of the soundtrack to my teen years. The studio version of The Isleys is much better than this live version🤗🔥🎶
Don't get me wrong, Britt. I do like the Seals and Croft "Summer Breeze". Back then I bought The Isley Brothers album. Ernie and Ronald Isley took "Summer Breeze" to a 'Soulful' place. P.S., Most of the young women today are going 'commando'. They have NO panties to drop.
I agree. I probably wouldn't have agreed with you when I was a senior in college. The girls in the room below us in our dorm played this song absolutely nonstop. I wanted to go down and break the record in half. I couldn't bear to hear it for a while. It took a few years before I could appreciate it again. But I do agree that Seals and Crofts' version was the best, maybe because it came out at that point in my life.
Both versions are Great!😊
I won't choose and prefer both versions.
Check out Harold Melvin & the Bluenotes.

Both versions are great, but I love the Isley Brothers more. Ernie's sick solo is classic.
