Like others have said, you really have to see the Oscar’s-winning documentary ‘20 feet from stardom’ . She toured with The Rolling Stones, sang backup to Sting, all kinds of back-up. The documentary does a great job of covering her range of work.
She won a Grammy for this, winning “Best R&B vocal performance” in a tie with Patti Labelle. The funny thing is, the album Patti won with, Lisa did backup vocals on.
Lisa was Luther Vandross' lead backup singer for many years, and then she did a solo album. She only made one album, because she decided she didn't like the music business, and didn't want to sing the kind of music the record companies wanted her to. She still performs and does some independent music, but it's nothing at all like this, but her voice was stunning. Luther always had his backup singers choreographed to the T for every song.
Not the kind of music More like The how Look at her mouth It is ALL molars, tonsils, and a relaxed poofy tongue It Is mafunkin Glorious No Way she would have become a Weak Nasally Nose Singing “Queen Li”
Britt, you need to watch the Documentary "20 Feet from Stardom" It was about background singers, and in particular, black background singers, who sang back up for the major stars and groups. Also, they gave the flavor the rock groups needed that white background singers could not provide, such as the Rolling Stones. They say that Lisa Fisher owned that background singer space. Before she went solo, she sang backup for Luther Vandross, Tina Turner, Sting, and for over 20 years with the Rolling Stones. She won a Grammy for this song and tied with Patti Labelle. Oh, she sang on Patti's album that year. She went solo, as I said, but was uncomfortable, and decided to go back to background. Watch her sing with the Rolling Stones including Give me Shelter Live. After the success of the Documentary, she decided to retire from the Rolling Stones and other background gigs and formed her own band and tours all over the United States and plays at intimate venues. She is R&B, but she sung with Rock bands like 9-inch Nails! ta boot! Lou Reed sang a song called, "Walk on the Wild Side "which is discussed in the documentary. In the lyrics, he sang, "And the colored girls sang, doot, da doot, da doot" This was not a knock on the women as that was the usage back then, instead he was paying homage to the black background singers. You probably did not know that black female background singers sang back up on Lynard Skynyrd's "Sweet Home Alabama" Let that sink in!
Yessssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss! My favorite female singer and absolutely a great live performance.
Great reaction to one of the best vocalists in the industry. So glad you discovered this incredible talent. She made such a great living as a backup vocalist for so many of the top acts, The Stones, Chaka, Tina, etc., she never looked back. Amazing vocal talent, Grammy winner, and all kinds of additional accolades. She might not be as well known as some other 90's vocalist but she's still highly regarded and respected as one of best in the biz. A real treasure.
I'm sure someone has told you but she sang back to for Luther vandross and for The Rolling Stones for years. She won a Grammy for this song in 1992. At the end of the day, she preferred singing backing vocals. She explains this quite well in the documentary 20 feet from stardom. It's an incredible documentary almost entirely shown from the perspective of backing vocalists. Some who wanted to be front people and some who chose that backing vocal position because they loved it. It's excellent. I need her twice and she is so incredibly beautiful inside and out. Definitely check that documentary out b thank you for this! She is one of my favorites of all time.
That note left your mouth open, yet, speechless!! She was amazing. The industry wanted to control her, and force whatever music on her that they wanted. She wasn't having it. He vocal range and shifts were second to none.
Great reaction! Re your question of why she isn't more famous -- she doesn't want to be. There is a great documentary about her and other background singers, and she essentially says she tried the out-front 'star' thing and decided she prefers being in the background.
Just love that I grew up in the 70’s 80’s and 90’s.. Just GREAT MUSIC!!! Lisa Fisher was one of my favorite’s along with Anita Baker.. Love your reviews❤️
This excerpt according to Wiki was “In 1992, Fischer traveled to Japan to perform in the Earth Voice Concert with Lee Ritenour, Phil Perry, Bobby Caldwell, Brenda Russell, James Ingram, Michael McDonald, Anita Baker, and others. During the concert, Fischer sang her 1991 hit "How Can I Ease The Pain", and provided backing vocals for her fellow musicians.” Cheerios all!
Lisa is perhaps the most underrated singer of her generation. Her first hit song was under the name Xena called "On The Upside". After she began to sing back up for numerous bands and she soon toured periodically with the Rolling Stones for many years. But her steady job was touring for 22 years with Luther Vandross, who she toured with until his death. Lisa is still occasionally singing around the country and in and around my native Brooklyn, NY where we both live. Lisa actually lives just a few blocks from me. Lisa is still beautiful and can still hit that incredible F5.
She started singing in the 70's. You need to do the late great Phyllis Hyman singing "Living All Alone" and Angela Winbush singing "Angel" if you want to hear some SANGING!!!! If you want to hear the highest whistle notes check out the live concert version of Betty Wright sining "No Pain No Gain" (It has to be the live concert version to hear her high notes break some glass)
Lisa Fischer, Phyliss Hyman, Angela Winbush and may I add Angela Bofill and Dianne Reeves - all singers that deserve far mor recognition than they have received. You're doing yourself a disservice if you don't react to any and all of them.
Lisa Fisher sang backup for Luther Van dross. When he was on tour for 22 years, she was also backup singer on tour for The Rolling Stones., Chaka Khan, Tina Turner, Evelyn "Champagne" King, and Nona Hendryx. Her vocal range is an insane A2 - G6! She should have been more famous but she always did whatcshe loved, singing. She has a lot of Phyllis Hyman attributes. I wouldn't say she sounds like Toni Braxton but maybe Toni sounds a "bit" like Lisa.
Check the documentary “ 20 Feet From Stardom” about famous background singers , and Lisa Fischer is one the most famous , you probably never heard of her because before and after this fiery hit that she had( and an amazing album) , she was busy being a background vocalist for some for the best in the music business , The Rolling Stones, Luther Vandross , and Tina Turner just to name a few. Yes she should have been one the biggest stars on the planet , but she made quite a name for herself in spite of that…
Thanks for sharing this!!! I am speechless right now. I totally agree with you. How have I never heard of this woman and never heard this before. Reminiscent of one of my favorites Anita Baker, but the vocal range is incomparable.
YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!! She is amazing!!!!! She wasn't really comfortable with being the focal point of entire concert...she preferred the annonimity of being a background performer.
Lisa was a background principle singer for many r& b singer and pop/ rock groups.the opinion u expressed of her talent was on she expressed about Merry Clayton after reviewing Gimme Shelter and how she could do the song justice but she found her way and has done the Rolling Stones tour dates for 25+ years,as her bread and butter gig since
Britt, been waiting for you to react to this song and SANGER!! This is my go to song when I want to hear someone just sing their face off. If you ever get a chance you should see her live.
You should watch the documentary 20 Feet From Stardom about the amazing back up singers that add so much to our favorite songs. Lisa is featured and talks about her long tenure with the Rolling Stones and others. A+ documentary.
i hope u readur comments she sang backup for Luther Vandross to Mick Jagger 😊 I STILL listen to her 1991 album So Intense THE 💯ENTIRE ALBUM IS 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 ☑️Wildflower ☑️So Intense. ☑️Chain Of Broken Hearts ☑️Last Goodbye. ☑️Save Me. ☑️So Tender ☑️Some Girls. ☑️Get Back To Love ☑️Send The Messag Of Love 🌸🌺🌸🌺🌸
The woman who did most of the duets with Luther Vandross. I would say that she was his main singer among his backup singers. I think Luther had to force her to record this song, it was a big hit amongst the Quiet Storm listeners. We wanted more from her, but she did not want to be out front like that. she just quit doing music. I think that she just enjoyed doing background vocals. As you can tell by this ProFormance she is a great singer who can do it all vocally.
Her solo album is SO INTENSE and it's FIRE 🔥🔥🔥. My favourite tracks on the album are "So Tender" and "Chain of Broken Hearts". Lisa has won three Grammies 🎉
There are singers who are stupidly technically competent, and those who are incredibly soulful. She pretty much pegs both those needles, which is a rare combination. But, she preferred being the guy behind the guy behind the guy for most of her career. There's a lot to be said for that I imagine. You give up a lot but you also avoid a lot of weirdness and pressure.
Seems like she wanted to prove she could be a star, dropped an AMAZING album, and then walked away to live life her own way. Maybe her soul is even more beautiful than her voice and her physical form! Also, strong J-Hud vibes.
Also, if you would like to react to a stellar live performance of Lisa as a backing singer, check out the Wembley Stadium video of Luther Vandross singing "Come Back" (written by David Gamson and Green Gartside), which will also serve to send you down the Scritti Politti rabbithole, from which you may never emerge 🎉
lisa didnt want it. its the only reason why she doesnt have it. she simply didnt want the fame or to be tangled into the machine of the predatory music industry.
Dang I dont know who suggested this or how you found it but I havent heard this since like 1993 I really liked her voice alot. She hit that note. We knew yo ass was gonna be quiet. 😂
She won a Grammy for this, winning “Best R&B vocal performance” in a tie with Patti Labelle. The funny thing is, the album Patti won with, Lisa did backup vocals on.

Yes, she is beautiful and her gestures are demonstrative, but it’s her voice that is on a different level
Lisas voice is so beautiful and soothing.

Toni Braxton is very Lisa Fisher. Lisa came before her and Mariah Carey.

My favorite vocalist of all-time. The sad part is that most don't even know who she is.
You might notice she has Bobby Caldwell, Brenda Russell and Phil Perry singing back-up (1991 was a good year for Lisa)
Lisa is a GODDESS - her voice is beyond compare. More please live performances
Yes Lisa was underrated, she did backup for Luther. Oh by the way, jet beauty! Page 43! Never forget, LOL! Awesome reaction as always!
