Most of the people criticizing modified lever action rifles probably don't have one and that's why they are complaining ether they are jellous are don't understand why you are modernizing what they think is just a old cowboy rifle. I love it I think it's awesome I wish I could go back in time to 1895 with modern ammo and 45-70 could you amagin what they would think if you showed them a high powered scope night vision or even a red dot LoL. Keep doing what you like to your firearms it's awesome kinda like a tactical cowboy.

I love the mashup of high tech and old tech. I can appreciate the classics but I also love the hot rodding of the classics. To me it is just like cars, for example, while I love an all original 69 Plymouth Roadrunner, if I had one that was made today to look just like the original, I would love to see fuel injection, super charger, and other modern technology make it run hard. I hate to see an old classic get cut up or changed beyond the point of not putting it all back to original, on the other hand, if you mess up one of these guns buy another, it isn't a 100 year old irreplaceable classic. To me putting all of the tech on it keeps it more relevant in a world of ARs and AKs, not that I have any issue with those guns, but I like a variety of guns and the more choices we have the better.

Just a suggestion. Try operating that rifle (cycling thru the trigger press) without arching the thumb over the wrist. You'll find in leveractions and bolt actions an smoother and faster cadence. Practice it in just dry runs without ammo for muscle memory. Once you get used to it you come to the "oh yeah" moment. The use of an red dot on that rifle is an excellent choice.

World you say the Chisel stock is heavier than the original stock? I have the 1895 trapper and the one thing I hate about it is that its ass heavy. Even with the handguard and the LPVO I have mounted to it, it still feels ass heavy. So Im trying to loose some weight in the rear. I know RPP has the adjustable stocks, which would Im sure would be much lighter, but I just dont like the way they look. They look like they are missing something, while the chisel stock looks spot on. I need that function and form!

Hello, I hope you are doing well. I put my chisel stock on my new Marlin/Ruger 1895 and the stock has a little bit of play once you slide it on without putting the takedown screw back in and you really have to tighten the screw down to take all the play out. Did you experience this? Please let me know, I would really appreciate it!

    • @buildhuntxplore

Hey! Yeah, that can happen. It doesn't matter which brand stock, I have some guns that are a little sloppy and I have to really snug it up, others it's so tight I have to tap it on and off with a rubber mallet, haha. Truth is, there are some serious tolerance variances in the rifles (especially over the years) that the companies have to work with so they tend to make them bigger than expected.

Could be a flaw in its making. But I do know that a leaver gun needs to be power thru. You need to MAN Handle it. Just how they work.

LOL Trust me, I have shot thousands of rounds through a lever gun. I know how to shoot them. It was complete lever lock due to a bad loading gate putting pressure on the rounds.

I don't want a short barrel lever rifle.
Unless it is a mare's leg for self defense.
My hunting lever guns are 20-24 inch barrel length.

The only reason I wouldn’t like your rifle is cause it makes me want to buy certain accessories. That can get me in trouble with the wife. I’m interested in the chisel buttstock. I like that it is one solid piece of aluminum. The only issue is that I use my stock irons for 50 yards or less and the scope for around 75 yards or more. The comb height may be an issue for me. Looks really nice though.

I don't know, man. Lever guns are classic Americana cowboy stuff. I love the Marlin 1895's, but the stainless and laminate as opposed to hardwood and blued steel is as far as I think it should go in terms of modernizing them. Not a big fan of applying tacticool bits to them. Personally I think the gun looked way better as it was from the factory. It's kind of like taking a nice classic corvette and putting some modern corvette body panels on it. They are both awesome by themselves, but not so much when you mix and match pieces of them onto each another. But then again..to each their own...

I don't understand these guys that take issue with modernized lever guns or other old designs with modern mods done to them. If it's not your thing it's not your thing but why throw shade? It's not like someone bought up all the pre-64 Winchesters and welded pic rails on them and gave them all zombie hunter cerekote jobs. They're brand new guns in current production and the mods aren't even permanent so it's not like future generations are being deprived of anything.
