    Don’t understand how one could be intimidated by an AR but not a lever action rifle, obviously several differences but if someone is comfortable with one then in a very short amount of training they should be equally comfortable with the other.
    Otherwise, thank you very much for the videos, very thorough and informative series of videos on the Marlin! Watching your channel, along with 2-3 other TH-cam channels have convinced me that a Marlin 336 and hopefully 1895 will be a couple future purchases. Also, RP & Midwest Industries should give you some nice perks as I am sure you’ve earned them plenty of money over this last year or so.

    I made up my mind that I have to start limiting my gun purchases but the Marlin CST 357 is one that I HAVE TO have. It will be my next gun buy. I was hoping the prices would come down a bit. I love the RPP stuff you have added although I don't care for the rail. I'm not crazy about the bed-liner paint either so I will probably just refinish the wood or buy some custom stocks. Marlin told me they were basically the same as the 336 wood.

    • @buildhuntxplore
      @buildhuntxplore  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Haha That's how I felt! Once I saw it, I had to eventually get one. The rail is definitely a love it or hate addition. I do really love a traditional lever gun, but with this being a tool for the property I felt the rail would be good addition. I can see a nice laminate stock set on here, man that would be nice! Sorry I'm helping you spend your money, haha, but best of luck! Thanks for watching!

    Great instruction videos! I did not realize you can modify Marlins and other lever actions such as Henry almost like an AR-15. I am sold! Getting a Marlin so I can upgrade and modify parts lika an AR-15. As much as I would love to get an AR, I can't since it is illegal here in New York City. Keep up the great videos! When loaded properly, a .357 mag can give you EXCELLENT results and be used as a home defense rifle without worry. Another mod for serious consideration. Especially on a Marlin Dark. As noted already pigs are a concerning problem for land owners here in Queensland. Once it all comes together I will have a purpose built hog cannon for the short range situations where a large bore lever and red dot combo dominates other weapon configurations short of
    semi-automatic actions. A light mounted forward of the usual grip position on the fore end will be excellent (as you suggested) for night time use. Enjoyable and informative video thank you. May I suggest an a video with some advice mounting scopes on weaver/picatinny rails as this is a job I am yet to undertake for my new weapon build. Cheers.

    • @buildhuntxplore
      @buildhuntxplore  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      There are longer tubes, but they won't work on a shorter rifle because of the stud that holds them to the barrel. It protrudes through the mag tube and would block the spring from functioning.

    Do you think this would work with the marlin scout rail? The scout rail looks like it has wings towards the rear which might hang a bit low.

    • @buildhuntxplore
      @buildhuntxplore  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, the scout rail protrudes down too far. If you are mechanically inclined, you could probably do some file/machining work on one or both rails and make it work out. You'd just have to hide the bare aluminum where you took away the anodized finish.

  • @EC-ol8nz

    To hold the washer you can use a small drop of locktight or heavy sticky grease in stead of tape. If u are a computer nerd cpu heat sink grease, this will transfer more heat away from the barrel👍 Ever little bit helps 🤣

    How's the Marlin holding up so far? Also, I heard Marlin has stepped up their quality control since the Remlin days. Is there any way to tell if a model is from those days or is from the new and improved era? And why did you decide on the Marlin vs. the Henry Side Gate? By the way, love the production quality and step by step explanations. Keep up the great work!!

    • @buildhuntxplore
      @buildhuntxplore  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks for the compliments! It's doing great so far. I'm actually uploading a video tomorrow morning with the latest install on it. This rifle is WAY better fit and finish when compared to my 2017 Model 1895 SBL. So, yes they have definitely stepped up their quality. I still hear of the occasional issue, but I think for the most part it's way better. I'm not sure of how to differentiate them. I'll have to do some searching and see what I can come up with. As far as Marlin vs. Henry Side Gate. The Henry Side Gate was not an option when I purchased this rifle. Plus, I wanted stainless and the only Side Gate offerings from Henry (as of right now) are brass and the black/blued. Since this one is winding down, we will be starting a new one very soon :-) so be sure to check back! Thanks so much for watching!!

      You're welcome! Thanks so much for subscribing & following along!
      Aside from the Date Code, I've also found the Chromoly steel to be much more smooth functioning than the Stainless. I've been told this is due to the fact that stainless is harder to work, the tooling gets worn sooner, and not replaced when it should be. The chromoly steel is easier to work so the machinery lasts longer. I have a new 336W and it is WAY smoother than my stainless 1895 SBL (2017 manufacture) and my 1894 CST (2019 manufacture)
      From what I've found in some forums about date codes:
      According to Remington, the barrel code gives the date of manufacture. If you have a 1895 that has a 2 letter code CL on the left side of the barrel. The C is for April and the L is 2017. Unless it has 2 letters, you can't tell the year made, and it was probably from the transitional time period.
      Here are the Remington barrel codes.
      The month letter,
      B = Jan
      L = Feb
      A = Mar
      C = Apr
      K = May
      P = Jun
      O = Jul
      W = Aug
      D = Sep
      E = Oct
      R = Nov
      X = Dec
      The year letter,
      E = 2010, F = 2011, G = 2012, H = 2013, I = 2014, J = 2015, K = 2016 , L= 2017, M = 2018, N = 2019
      Maybe someone else can add in anything if I'm mistaken or they know something else.
      Hope this helps!!

    Major problem with this modification, at least on mine. The issue is with the forearm tip tenon which this hand guard screws to, slides left and right thus the barrel ends up not parallel to the hand guard. I'm constantly sliding the hand guard left or right after each shot.

    • @buildhuntxplore
      @buildhuntxplore  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You need to Loc-Tite and stake the tenon, and make sure it's centered. Then you'll be good to go.

    • @buildhuntxplore
      @buildhuntxplore  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It’s not that it is cooling the gun itself, rather there’s not the wood handguard trapping heat that keeps the barrel hotter longer. Instead, with the open air design it’s more of an air-cooled system.

    • @timhallas4275
      @timhallas4275 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @buildhuntxplore
      @buildhuntxplore  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Function over looks for me. How hard have you run a lever gun? When you push them they get hot like any other gun. And i didn’t say it was going to over heat. It just helps keep it cooler. Also I didn’t say it was the sole reason. It gives me a mounting point for my HopticUSA Longbow Quiver and a mounting point for a flashlight for a bump in the night. This is a rifle my wife can easily manipulate for 2-legged or 4-legged problems on our homestead.
