    Yondu ending up being one of my favorite characters, sucked to lose him. His character ended up being very relatable as the actual father figure but not by blood. "He may have been your father boy but he will never be your daddy" gets me every time

      As a man raised by my step-father, it is absolutely true. It gets me every time, that and that Brad Paisley song about his idol being the dad he didn't have to be.

      @@VoidVintage yeah, a lot of people make a meme out of Drax being extremely literal, but on the emotional end, it just means he sees right through you as a person, no matter how you may appear at first on the outside. There is no artifice with knowing him. I've always wondered if this was a good entry point for the makers of this to movie to get people to accept those who are on the spectrum or neurodivergent in some way, who may at first appear to act differently or have quirks that you haven't seen before all the way to people who are biochemically and/or neurologically incapable of recognizing sarcasm, for example. But to then flesh out that entire character instead of just making him a meme - this was the story with ALL the GotG characters. Especially Rocket, now in retrospect. Everything was made with care, is my point. And for those who are neurodivergent in some way, we notice that level of detail and care. That's what makes us nerds. :D

    The reason Mantis wanted to confess Ego's wrongdoings to Drax was because she understood how parents are supposed to feel when losing their child when she touched Drax . Ego's sadness was not because he misses his children or sadness that they died, the thing that keeps him up at night is having his dream being out of reach. The pond scene has always been one of my favourites in the MCU

    • @spdcrzy
      @spdcrzy 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +15

      Yeah, Mantis has also been abused - let's not forget. When she felt Drax's emotions, she felt what healing (not healthy, but healing at this point) grief is supposed to feel like. It's imperfect, it's a work in progress, and it's messy and inconsistent, but it's realistic.

    It's a testament to Michael Rooker's fantastic ability to BELIEVABLY play the really gruff, a**hole archetype , the guy that you SHOULDN'T like, because he does shi**y things, but in the end you wind up mourning their loss. Nobody ever talks about this mans emotional acting, he always brings it.

      The first time you meet his character in The Walking Dead, he is the worst person ever. But damn, by the time his time was up on that show you realize you love his presence despite his flaws. This movie was underrated when it first came out. I heard a lot of people saying “not as good as the first.” But I think over time it has grown in popularity. For me, it’s clearly better than the first, with a more interesting villain and more emotion.

      I think they are pretty equal. The only actual issues I have that might put a nod towards the first, are the jarring changes in tone and the downright cartoonish slapstick stuff they do with the ravagers and the dimensional shifting. I think if Gunn showed a tiny bit more restraint here, it's better for sure.

      @@fredwin I always felt that the jokes and comedy came off as WAY more forced in this one whereas in the first one, the humor stuck the landing every time because it just flowed through natural dialogue and situations. Here, when every other conversation involving Ego or Drax was a dick and fart joke, it becomes painfully obvious that they're just trying way too hard to be funny.

    Guardians is all about found family, and for anybody that's ever felt like a misfit in their lives. In that way, they connect with just about everyone in some way. In many ways, that's what comics are all about. It's a way for people of all walks of life to come together and relate to others. As a kid who grew up reading those comics (and being bullied for it), it's SO vindicating to have lived through the MCU and seeing all the "normal" people finally realize what all of us comics nerds love so much about them.
    Guardians also NAILS the music direction. They pick those classic songs that punch you right in the nostalgia while also seeing the mood backdrop for every scene PERFECTLY. There isn't a bad guardians movie - hell, not even a mediocre one. They're all incredibly good. Can't wait to see the rest of your MCU journey. Lots of tearjerkers to come, so invest in some tissues!

    @bigdream_dreambig 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +10

    With this film, we really drive home "fatherhood" as the primary theme of this arc of the MCU. We've had: Tony Stark with his dad Howard, General Ross and Betty, Odin with Thor and Loki, Hank Pym with Hope and Scott Lang with Cassie, and now Ego and Yondu with Peter Quill. We've already had hints of Gamorah and Nebula's relationships with _their_ father figure... And then I can think of at least 4 more paternal relationships still to come! (Have I missed any from Captain America or Dr. Strange? I guess you might add Dr. Erskine and/or The Ancient One, but those seem much closer to being mentors than fathers.)

    The guy you thought you recognized at the beginning is Ben Browder. He was the lead actor in Farscape and had the lead in Stargate SG-1 for the last few years after Richard Dean Anderson (MacGyver) left. Both were great sci-fi shows. I'm sure Farscape have been recommended to you already, it had a very well told love story which you rarely ever get in long running TV shows. He even won Saturn Awards along with his co-star Claudia Black for acting, they were both in Farscape and SG-1 and won for both shows.
    I'm sure that James Gunn drew a lot of inspiration from Farscape when making these movies. It's a very very very similar story. Going back even further, although I don't remember it, I'm sure the Guardians comics were quoted an inspiration for Farscape when that was coming out.

    Yondu, and several of the Ravagers that appeared in the credit scene including Starhawk (Sylvester Stallone) were an earlier version of Guardians of the Galaxy in the comics. The team we're familiar with in the MCU were a later team. I'm very happy they went with the later team as the main, but appreciate the fact that they included many of the early members in this film. I was waiting for you to watch and react to this! What a great reaction. It's one of the best movies series out there, regardless of genre. Just so good with the ups and downs.
    Have a great day!

    I think all the familial relationships & friendships is what makes the Guardians movies resonate with a lot of ppl. Many seem to prefer the 1st movie over the 2nd or 3rd, but for me, the 2nd is the best Guardians movie because of all the relationships within, and it's also a movie that deals with loss too, in multiple ways. Love your reactions, Stef, and I'm glad you enjoyed the movie!

    Great reaction Stef as always 😊i love Guardians 2 even more than the first for everything Baby groot😁 the character building,the soundtrack,new characters and Yondus Sacrifice off course that line gets me everytime "He may have been your father boy but he wasn't your daddy i'm sorry i didnt do none of it right i'm damn lucky you was my boy"And Yondus funeral breaks me everytime id argue it is one of the most emotional scenes in the MCU

    You got me to ugly cry twice that is tough to do!! Really good editing too, it really shows the real emotion of those moments. I love this movie, James Gunn is a genius.

    Stef, if you thought this killed you, wait til you see the sequel to this. It is...incredible. I'm very much an empath and watching you react to some of these scenes just made me bawl incessantly. But as impossible as it sounds, GotG3 somehow also captures the EXACT same energy and completely inverts everything on its head...yet again.
