    I find it amusing how the U.K has different names for the same things that we call by different names in the United States. What you call a "power bar" we call a "breaker bar". Your "axle stand" is our jack stand". Good video. I am glad the Fortwo can bring us all together.

    I got an uneven wear with one of the rear tires, most places in the US won't remove the tire from the rim to swap and rotate them with the other tire in the rear. Any suggestions? Wheel alignment cost more than a single new tire here in the US.

    • @smarte.r.1450
      @smarte.r.1450  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Javan Dell check tyre pressure. Is the wear on the outer edge? If so. Poor tyre pressure and natural weight of just the driver. Sounds simple but it’s normal. If not check the suspension. If it’s got a stanchion blown....

    • @ironhorsegladiator5034
      @ironhorsegladiator5034 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Smart E.R. Thanks. I always keep the pressure as stated on the door panel. Will check again. Maybe lower it this time as the wear is on the outside edge.

    Sorry, but every time I come across your video, I go AAARRRGGGHHH!!!
    4:08 "hand tight"
    4:54 "full contact with the floor"
    If you've only gone "hand tight", putting too much weight on the ground can allow the wheel to shift a bit, possibly causing it to end up not centered once the bolts are fully tightened (from experience with non-hubcentric wheels). Bouncy-bouncy while driving, and possibly allowing the bolts (or nuts) to loosen once under way.
    I normally tighten (in the air) by either smacking the brace/breaker bar/wheel wrench with my hand to get the bolts *firmly* seated, then lower the wheel until it's touching the ground just enough to not spin while tightening.
    5:12 "the professionals will use an air gun"
    Not any professional I know.
    In the shop where I work on all makes of car all day, every day, the only time I use air is on bigger vehicles (trucks, lorries, whatever you call them), and even then at low power, with a "torque stick" to limit the force to about 2/3 of specifications. (We also have the fancy electric guns, so regulating the force is now much easier). Either way, final tightening is *always* done with a proper torque wrench.
    5:34 "but not on the locking one"
    Correction: ALL bolts (no nuts on the Smarties) get the same torque: 110 Nm (aka 81 ft-lbs). No difference for the lockers.
    Just like you said at 4:28... "if you over-tighten one more than the other"
    Same goes for under-tightening one more than the others.
    Particularly if you only have 3 to play with.
    Okay, I'm done. :)

      Holden McGroin glad you got that off your chest. I’m only 52. I’ve done my fair share of tyre changes as a young man.... I have used this method religiously for decades. Never have I had a “wobbly wheel” never has one come loose. Never has one come off.
      This was how I Was taught .... I don’t want to trivialise you’re comments ... but I’m glad you gotten this off your chest sir
      The aim of this video was to allow people less confident and sometimes stranded feel empowered to do a wheel removal change.
      If you want to go into the minutia of wheel/tyre changes of professional companies ... many studies and stings here in the uk have been done on tyre companies and how they take advantage of customers when offering “FREE WINTER” tyre checks. And scare the bejesus out of them to buy tyres when not needed.
      I’d you come across my video and it offends you I’m sorry I can’t help algorithms
      Have a wonderful day. Stay safe and keep smiling 😁

    Where is lock nut located in the car for storage?

    • @smarte.r.1450
      @smarte.r.1450  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      David Chambliss
      Two out of the THREE cars I have or have owned had them in a separate locking wheel nut box. The other car had them in the paperwork folder I had with the car purchase. Have you tried the obvious glove box (if there is one) or the Cargo netting?? Finally I found ONE of the said boxes in the hidden storage area on the inside of the tail gate where the convertible roof bars are stored

    • @smarte.r.1450
      @smarte.r.1450  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Possibly not. You CAN buy a tool to remove them but it will destroy the nut and if you get into complications it could be difficult. Try a tyre replacement shop for the removal but buy replacements on line in advance 😉

      Gary Towne not every person knows how to change a wheel fella. And not everyone is confident to wing it. The jacking point can be a pain to see and if you don’t use it the damage can be costly.
