How To Change A Smart Car Battery
Hi all,
anyone that has done any research into Smart 453 cars (The ForTow or ForFour) will have seen in online forums niggles and electrical gremlins surface when your Smart Car battery is starting to wear out... lots and lots of weird notifications of ABS failure/Traction Control Engine management lights... These cars are SUPER sensitive to a worn battery.
This video is how to change the original battery to a good quality replacement AGM battery.
The Battery I have used here is a VARTA brand, 560901068 AGM 027 12V 60 AH 680CCA 0/1 B13
Its the first time I have done this on a 453 and was genuinely looking forward to it... it really isn't complicated but you will need patience, skinny arms/hands or a good long reach tool to get at the battery clamp .

My smart was driving home and it got the temperature gauge light and it's smoking white smoke like crazy and coolant dripping out the tail pipe and now it seems like it barely wants to move?
@@willfreethemfreethem7671 well that sounds like a failed head gasket for sure. If the coolant tank is low. And there is loads of white gunk in the oil filler cap and white smoke out the exhaust pipe these are critical failures. Don’t drive it. Get it sorted immediately
@@smarte.r.1450 the funny thing is the oil and coolant didn't look milky or anything but that's what I thought too I'm thinking about giving it a whack and trying to do it wife said she was gonna sell it for 500$ I said if I can't fix it I can part it out for more than that lol

Hi there just found your video and my sat nav is frozen showing the “no gps signal” message. Please could you help me with the software side, ie, what site do I go to for the software and do I need to create an account there first. I struggle to turn my MacBook on ( yes I’m useless 😅) so a step by step guide would be really appreciated. Totally understand if you don’t have the time, thanks.

2016 453 here. I use mine as a DD, and sleep in it for before-work naps. However, I have never tried to lie down in it - I have been using a neck pillow while sitting... thank you for teaching me this trick ❤

I have recenly bought a Smart for Two Cabrio Passion MHD 1 (Registered 2014) There is a lot of wind noise located at the roof on the passener side. I have inspected all the rubber and can not find any damage or cracks. Have anyone got a solution for stopping the loud wind noise (Thanks sincerely)
@@RealHopeTV I have seen posts like this in Smart forums… if seals are ok look for this 1: check that all the panel gaps are consistent and have all the clips in. Sometimes a slight inconsistency creates a wind noise. 2: I do know that in some cabrios the fabric roof shrinks. Check its water tight. That is my best guess

Hi. I am really struggling with mine. Started off by telling me No GPS Signal mid journey. I downloaded Smart Media Connect onto my laptop. Paid for a subscription. Did an update. Now says No Maps Found. Tried uninstall and install again. Still same message 😭

I added the download to my USB stick but when I plug it in to the car it says USB STICK DETECTED, but then it just says no media found? I have checked the download is on there but my car won't recognise it, any ideas?
@@LouiseStanford-s7j first make sure you “eject” a usb stick safely. Delete the download. Reformat the usb stick Reinstall the download Insert usb stick. If it still doesn’t see it try a different stick or SD card If it still doesn’t work you may need a new usb module (I have a video on that) Before you try any of that. Press the “home” button 5 times in quick succession then try the usb stick. Let me know how it goes. Good luck

This is quite an old video now and there has been a further update. Go to your countries SMART website go to support. Then update your tomtom and you will see your update there.

Has it ever worked? 1-try pressing the home button 5 times quickly. Turn the car off then on 2-with the car on, eject the memory card 3-eject the memory card and reinstall the software like in this video Look for the fuse and swap it out. See my other video on fuse location and the link to what each fuse does is in the description of that video Good luck

Follow the Ali express link and see the 451 product. They post a video how to install and the sequence to activate the defeat device.

No.. I don’t consider the 453 forfour loud from road or wind noise .. nor the for two 453… are you on snow tyres maybe? I have Bridgestones

Good question. I had recently done a service the week before. Filter was changed then but felt the important bit was to demonstrate the extraction pump.
Thanks for the video. I've located the fuse. But was just wondering how easy is to remove the fuses. I'm trying to check the fuse 14 from the AC, but my fingers are too big to just to pull them out as it is a small fuse.. And was trying to see if there is a fuse clip to help to remove it, and seems there isnt.

Changed my filter for a K&N filter , straight fit as same size , notice a difference. Simple job.
