Great to see $250 can get us a decent performance. Not everyone can afford $600 detector.
Well how about obey the speed limits if you can't afford it? 😅
@@joegoldberg1363 Please follow your own advice.
@@joegoldberg1363because law enforcement has become corrupt in many cases
@joegoldberg1363 got to be a little rebel sometimes 😈😂
@joegoldberg1363 it's not that all people can't afford it it's more the can't afford not toi drive because of getting caught to many times
Valentine 1 original addition still rocking here
Great review as always! You've been my inspiration in how I report on radar detectors for Automoblog. Thank you for all you do for this community of enthusiasts, especially for newbies like me!!
Cobra never made the best detectors, but in the late 80's, early 90's I loved the Cobra Trapshooter Ultra. A decent detector with a Great Name. That said, the Uniden rd9xl or escort passport was the go to, up until the original Valentine one hit the scene.
No hate just wanted to say you showing your age gives us young heads something to look forward to in the coming decades.
"Hit the scene" 😂 r u a dinosaur 🦕
Great review and we need them in this price range for a lot of people
Good stuff V been using the 480i this last year and been impressed
I got the duel pro damn good detector does it all plug and play. Highly recommend
Thank you for sharing👍
In the mid 80's i loved my cobra trapshooter great radar detector
good for cobra looking forward to your testing thankyou
They're are owned by cedar electronics which also owns escort.
I am still rocking my R3 here.
same. ill never buy another cobra radar detector. they need to just stick with CB's.
@@_AndromedaGalaxy_Should I get this cobra 700i or uniden r3? They are around the same price
@@thefitnesslife4988when it comes to radar detectors im always going to be a Uniden fanboy. as for CB radios, thats where i feel Cobra is king.
@@thefitnesslife4988R4
Cobra has been around forever. Never owned one. I have an R3 right now (and a RedLine 360c) so won't be onboard with this. It's good to see decent hardware at a good price, though.
I Been having odd quirks with the app the biggest is over heating my phone not often and I have to force close i have the 480i so im definitely interested in this new one 🙂
Good job 👍
only cobra RD i ever bought went in the trash. id have felt so guilty reselling that POS. i keep forgetting their CB's are the same brand cuz those are in a whole other world of quality. just picked up a 29ltd made in '92. cant wait till the power cord and antenna shows up so i can test it out. perfect equipment to have for dooms day situations.
Have you tested for Rdd blocking? I think that would put it in between the R3 and the Max 3.
Probs might buy to replace my 480i. Only thing is I wish it had K and Ka band segmentation
I had a Cobra radar detector in the 90s. I do have a couple of their CB radios currently.
Is it Undetectable from Spectre Elite or Spectre III? I’m trying to decide between 700i or R4.
Can’t seem to find these in the UK. Are these configured only to work in the US?
Clearly you can see Escorts influence on the detector. Reminds me of a 9500, from the look as well as the button labels
I just decided by Cobra 700i few minutes before watching your video, and thank you, with your review, I can say I made a good choice between this and Uniden R3. The points that guided me to the Cobra were: I had one in 90's and it save me some money; It's newer than R3, so I think it could have more technology; It has app capability. Now, I'm awaiting it to be delivered and see... I take highway twice everyday, and so far, luck and God accompany me.
Was wondering when Cobra would come out with a new detector.
Looks like they released a solid detector here. Is it just a 480i on steroids? 🤔
9:42 The other Honda Pilot that the cobra didn’t filter out might have actually been the Honda Odyssey you passed shortly after. The minivan was a few cars in front of the Pilot in the same lane.
Good eye. I thought about that and was considering making an annotation about that, but given how infrequently Odyssey’s cause BSM falses, I ultimately decided against it. You’re right though that it is a possibility.
@@VortexRadar Sorry my complete ignorance, but why hondas and other cars would cause false alerts?
I am seriously impressed with the RAD 700i and I'm perfectly comfortable recommending it as a great entry level or budget detector. It should really be priced at $199 but it is what it is. Very quiet with ok range. Not killer range like a RL360C but enough to catch that officer hiding around corner.
This guy looks younger every episode
lol
He shaves sometimes
I added radar guns (4@24v) facing backwards inside the rear fenders. If your not first your last!
I already have an R4 in my daily. But looking for a more budget detector for in my rarely driven truck. Uniden R3 or RAD 700i? What would you pick?
R4
I bought one just to test and play with.
I have a laser tester, the TMG hand held. I can't get any audio during a laser alert. Screen lights up, shows laser and PPS. No audio alert on RD. None of the apps work either for laser notifications nor sound.
The tester works with my v1g2 and R8, normal alerting with audio and screen alerts.
I've tried everything I could think of.
Any ideas Vortex?
All muting is disabled.
Essentially it seems everything works except that..
No idea why but it started working yesterday lol 🤷🏻♂️
Looking like Cobra on to something with this new radar detector and wonder how well not go off on Toyota Tacoma
Does the turn by turn navigation display on the screen of the detector like they do on the dash cams or is it only going to display on the app.
App only
@@VortexRadar Thanks For the quick response!
Do you know if any of those firmware updates you mentioned Cobra was working on have been made at this point, say if I buy the 700i now?
Not yet, but it sounds like they wanna do it soon
@@VortexRadar 700 i or United R8 ? Spend the money and buy the expensive one ??? Which one is better
I have the uniden R3 in one of my cars and
recently I bought the cobra rad 700i for the other car. I would give the edge to the R3 for range, but the Cobra comes pretty darn close to the r3. So would I buy the Cobra again? Ummmm, probably not. If my budget was 300 dollars, i should have opted for a second r3 or maybe an r4 if i spent a bit more, but that being said, the rad700 is not a bad detector. It is good enough that I will not return it. It gets the job done with confidence. Certainly better than past Cobra detectors.
just purchased one using an employee discount so i got it for 180 and im going to test it for a couple weeks in my area and see just how well it works or if i should opt to go for the r3 at 220 or go back to my max 3 at 299. and i think that if everyone was able to get this thing for 180 it would totally sell but at 250 thats a bit steep when the r3 is not much more
I'm sorry I'm sill with a R4 over this any Day thanks again for all your testing 👍😊
lol if you have the extra cash, it’s a no brainer. The R4 has also been on sale on Amazon recently too which makes it even easier to choose instead. geni.us/Uniden-R4
Just purchased my 2nd R4
However in my car I run a v1gen2
2022 model?
This cobra is proof that although cobra may not be the best they are still trying
Does this detect lidar
What app are you using to determine distance on alerts?
It’s called Drive Smarter
Ok thank you
@@VortexRadar Is it the one that displays the orange screen cause I have the drive smarter app and mine don't do that lol..
Hi do we allowed to have radar in Australia specifically in Melbourne
Please help
Detectors are banned in Australia. Someone recently got caught on a police spectre in Au and had to hand over their radenso DS1. Therefore better get one that is stealth. The R3 is stealth, but the R4 and R8 are not. I'd hazard a guess and say the cobra is probably not stealth, but wouldn't recommend that for Au as you'll also face 'instant On'. The 2 second delay on the cobra means you'll be toasted.
I’ll take my R4
Isn't Cobra and Escort the same thing made by the Cedar Electronics Holding Corp factory in Chicago, which in turn is owned by Monomoy Capital Partners, the $3 billion private investment firm? Surely they can make good stuff (if they wanted to).
No. They share the same parent company and some tech, but they’re different companies. Monomoy is fortunately no longer in the picture as of several years ago.
Do you need any internet or app for this to work?
Yep
For $250 I'll pay a little more for a uniden. Unfortunately years of trash from Cobra has made it impossible that I'd count on the brand to alert reliably
Is the r4 significantly better ?
IMO yes
V1Gen2 is Boss
Wife uses an R4
Does this detector come with the data cable to update it?
No, though most any MicroUSB cable should work.
@@VortexRadar OK Thx
Did he review the 350i?
Nope
Micro usb plug? Are we in 2017?
Yes
2:02 Thanks Vortex for showing us how Cobras are supposed to be mounted. They just don't work as well if they are level.
Well cobras been taking tips from escort like you can tell the design is similar but still cobra like
I'm from Edmonton, send me a 700i and I will test MRCD for you ;)
All cobra users have their RDs aimed to detect alien ufo's 😂
Now is it detectable by police ?
hey whats up
“And in my opinion, Cobra Radar Detectors stink.” Haaa
Too funny.
I refuse to purchase any device that is not usb-c anymore. Sorry
"decent cobra" oxymoron 😂
Disappointing, for $250 I feel like it needs to significantly outperform the R3.
You lost me at Cobra.....
I'm assuming a number of people are going to dismiss it out of the gate simply because of the brand name. That said, this one seems quite a bit better than the typical Cobra.
@@VortexRadar I am with Vortex until the end, and he knows what he is saying.
$250 ? 😂😂😂😂😂
Junk
Cobra has the best radar detector on the market
