      @@educatedredneck3342 Arrows on the uniden R7 are gonna cost you an additional 200-250$ vs an R3. Ive been rocking the R3 for a few years and learned that 99.7% of threats are coming from the front. If you're using an R3 while simultaneously running Waze and keeping your head in the game arrows are more of a novelty. Plus the R7 is the size of a small fridge hanging off the windshield in comparison to the R3.

    Another clear and concise homerun by Vortex. I run the R1 swine sniffer up here in Canuckistan and have been running it since January 2019 now and to say it's a beast is an understatement. I've had zero issues when going toe to toe with the local RCMP ghost car sporting Spectre RDD... This unit will alert Ka band so bloody far away you begin to doubt it every once in a while and start to think its malfunctioning.
    I live in a rural area but still don't get my nose out of joint with the false alerts in the city. The R1 dominates on the twisty hilly terrain where 90% of my driving is done and has saved my bacon more times than I could count. After having kept a moderate track of the saves versus ticket potential that I also invested in moving on up to the R7 as i could have purchased likely 10 of them for what my little buddy the R1 has saved me. I will also look very heavily into Radenso's Theia when it hits the market

    Just bought my first unit. An R7 for a road trip (and all future ones) from AZ to CO. I didn't get it so I could do high speed running. More so as a driving maintenance to not over speed. The car is an '18 5.0 and it is VERY easy to drift into the ticket speed range and not know it. Got MULTIPLE K alerts from vehicles, mostly Hondas and I think Cadillacs, road-side speed alert stations and store doors. All Ka alerts where I actually saw the police were well in advance, ie around blocked-view corners. Some alerts may have been undercover cars as I didn't see police vehicle near me. One was an officer coming from the opposite way around a mountain corner. I was already going a safe speed, but it was good to know ahead of time. About two minutes later I get an alert from the REAR. !!! Is he coming back to ME for some reason?!? Nope. He caught a motorcycle driver who was going the same direction as me and they were both catching up to me. Whew! Another time I had a Ka alert and my friend was with me. Checked speed...good. Came around the corner and cop was sitting in a clearing on the left. Perfect spot to catch people. It was maybe a 1/4 mile out around a corner with trees from when I had the alert. My friend had already experienced alerts from cops just driving in the opposite direction, but this was his first time seeing one sitting and waiting. He was impressed and said "Man! I gotta get me one of these!" I won't be using this around town and that was my reasoning to get the R7 since it had front and rear detection for long road trips.

    Nice video summarizing these detectors for prospective buyers!
    A case could actually be made for including the V1G2 in the "bang for the buck" mix as an alternative to the R7 for those that would prefer better false alert filtering, RDD immunity and like to run Apps like JBV1 or V1Driver. Definitely some caveats there though and specific use cases like lacking MRCD/CT so I get not including it in your list. As we all know there isn't a detector that's perfect for everyone.
    I think the only one of the top 3 detectors that really lacks value proposition is the Escort R360C. It has a lot of great features and I can totally see people wanting to run it but it's cost to benefit ratio just isn't there like the rest of the detectors.

    • @VortexRadar
      @VortexRadar  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yeah I thought about that one as well, but I was leaning towards the R7 just because you can often get it for under $500. There’s bunch of detectors like the Radenso XP that could have been on this list too. There isn’t really a hard line for what detectors should or shouldn’t be on the list. :)

    Bought my DFR7 about 1.5 years ago on your recommendation and have been 100% happy with it. I drive in the city, suburbs, and rural areas and it has been spot-on almost every time. Only time it did not alert was to laser, and that's because I didn't have it turned on (oops!). :D It was also very accurate regarding locations of red-light cameras on a trip we took. I firmly believe the R3 is probably the best-in-class, but for someone not doing a significant amount of driving, you can't beat the DFR7's bang for the buck.

    Both Escort Max 3 and Radenso Pro M aren't as quick as responding to instant on radar compared to Valentine Gen 2 or Uniden R3. Radar detectors with better filtering something has to be sacrificed and that is? Overall detection range which could be the difference to a close call and getting pulled over. Personally don't like the auto-lockout feature, have seen real police radar getting locked out, although rare it does happen and will stick to locking out false alerts manually.

    I think your wrong sir ! No cobra 480i? Hmm Surprising they are honestly not bad at all, also the range I believe is better then said in video , also it shares the same exact same information similar to Waze as the escort I’ve had many escorts and valentines wireless and corded I just got back into driving fast cars again and I wanted to see what the new cobra could do yes I will admit false alarms can suck but that’s why you do the lock out on the app. IMO is better then having gps on the actual machine because you can actually see way more information on the app and since it’s shared with escort and cobra users alike you get a lot of coverage even more then Waze alone ! So honestly maybe you should rethink the 480i. People just hate to believe cobras got their shit together now .

    radar detectors are good during the day, not so much during the night. it would work until you have officer troll who turns his radar off until they see headlights and turn it on right before you pass the target zone.

    There is something I find interesting. Back in the 1980's Whistler detectors were highly rated. I had a Spectrum and it worked well (pre-Ka days). Today, they are still around and seem to offer quite a few units, but there is little talk about them on RDF and not a single unit made it into either of your best expensive or best for the money videos. I suppose somebody out there is buying them (and K-40s), otherwise they'd be out of business.

    • @VortexRadar

      @Andrew Waters: There is no "Laser Radar". There is either radar or laser. For more information, check out this very informative video posted by Vortex:
      th-cam.com/video/75fsXgZDdK0/w-d-xo.html
      And no, city mode does not turn off laser detection. In city mode, X band is off, K band sensitivity is reduced and Ka band is at full sensitivity.

    Since the Escort Max360 can be had for $500, the same price as the R7, I assume you recommend the R7 over the Escort Max360?

    • @VortexRadar
      @VortexRadar  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Originally I was going to have the Max 360 in the other video going over the best radar detectors, but with the R7 getting autolockouts too, I think it's ultimately a better pick than the Max 360.
      The Max 360 isn't bad and there's a lot of other good detectors that lots of people would be happy with. I just wanted this video to cover the best options in each price level.
