dude you have great conent man. theres a lot of cats on here who make it sooo damn complicated. you get the info across nice and clear for a dummy like me to understand. no tricks no gimmicks. thanks brotha!
im starting film making and photography as soon as i get my canon 80d , and i want to do music videos. And you are the perfect channel to follow. SUBSCRIBED Great advice man
Your branding may be more important than how your work looks. This was the Golden nugget from this entire video. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us.
You are so great!!! I just stumbled upon your videos and I am instantly addicted. Love all of the information that you provide, and how well versed you are!! Keep on making magic!!
Nikon D5300 was a good starting point for me. I even had two of them at some point. $600, 24mp, 1080p/60fps and plenty of lenses to choose from. They even made them with the swivel!
I started out with a rebel T6 and it was a good camera to start from. I think that, if you're truely striving to get bettter, you'll outgrow that camera really really fast. the next camera I moved to was a sony a6000 and that was AWESOME. I wish I had started with that one because it's only slightly more expensive but has a TON more features and is ideal for beginner hybrid shooters.
Thank you, thank you! You are amazing. Just snagged my T3i on Craigslist and shopping for lenses next. One note though, as a beginner who isn't about to get any paid gigs where I need to look professional, I'm planning on DIYing my stabilizer/camera rigs.
Corin Stedman You can get great results from a DIY rig if you do it right. It's really about the footage and the experiences and expression (hopefully). DIY is also fun. Go for it!
Film on a super flat mode. install cinestyle on your camera and get LUT for color grading. I use Canon 700d and my video looks like 4k after coloring grading with LUT.
Well done and spot on. We all started somewhere and this video will help you keep moving in the right direction, avoiding some pitfalls along the way. I sub'd and will be sharing this video with folks. Cheers.
You, my good sir, are a blessing. Been watching a few of your videos and they have been helping me out a lot. Thank you so much. Keep up the good work. ❤
I started out with the Rebel T3i, not going to lie I love that camera, but a few months ago I bought a Lumix G7, this Lumix G7 is cheaper than that Rebel t7i and it is a far superior camera for video.. for a new G7 as around $600 for a new t7i it's around $800 the G7 is a better buy for a newbie
Same for me! It's also my first camera too. It's quite nifty and has a lot of functionality with magic lantern (although it's missing quite a lot too), but it's enough to cut my teeth on. Have you got any examples of your work with the t3i?
I stumbled onto your channel. Currently, I have a T3I and I'm trying to make myself like it/ make it work. However, I'm in saving to purchase something new. This was super helpful and number 5 was something I have learned the hard way but so true. Thank you and I will subscribe.
Thanks, brother, for taking time to make these helpful insightful videos. I hear you mention music videos a lot. Obviously, you specialize in that but can I apply your teachings to other types of videos like a speech recording, for instance?
I don't know if I can completely agree with the canon suggestion. I started with a canon Rebel and had very bad experiences on the video side of things. However I think they're excellent for photography. Especial for full manual users cause it gives you a lot more control. But for video I just always seemed to run into issues. If I had to make a suggestion for a first camera I would have to pick the G7. You may have to shell out a few more coin but its well worth it if you wanting to get into film making for the first time. Just my opinion. I'm still learning myself so others might have a better prospective then I would.
I'm one of those people that when he's going to do something I jump in after I've looked into what I'm wanting to do because I'll stick with it until the end. Maybe that's a bad thing I don't know but that's a bad habit I have. I'm getting the Black Magic 6k Pro. I'm working on finding someone to do my logo I have my company brand name. You're right my image is everything and I do understand this so I'm in no hurry I'm going to learn what's needed to get started and see what God wants me to do in this new venture.. My short video is almost complete my people are in place for when I need them. I've joined Tomorrow's Film Makers and that's helping allot even from your channel I'm also learning. I'm determined to put out a decent short film and if it's OK I'll post it on one of your feeds for your feed back it would be greatly appreciated and what u see wrong I'll correct I just hope I do something right with it but only time will tell. Again thanks for all your content it's really appreciated.
Question - What kind of cheap lighting setup can I do for a warehouse shot? Similar to how Nas is setup in that "One Mic" video. Not to sure what i need, not trying to spend too much though. Something affordable that'll allow me to get clear footage and so the job in post.
i can handle a generator (assuming no electricity), home depot has them for the low. Just need to know specifically about the light(s) i'll need, its a million different variations. What do you recommend?
Good lighting, man. Very good suggestions, too. Hard to argue against the cameras you mention and a nice 50mm. I would like to add that the one thing you cannot skimp on is audio -I feel like that should come after the camera or at least after the lens. A good shotgun microphone is a good start then a separate audio recorder with a lav mic. Audio has crippled a lot of my work and i'm only just starting to understand how vital it is. It can seriously shut down productions if your audio isn't good.
Audio is definitely very important, I guess I was more so gearing this to music video directors whereas audio is that big of a deal in most situations. If that makes sense
I have never used a DSLR before. I was planning to get a Sony A6300 soon. Cz I need it for travel videography/documentary or even landscape photography or products. is that a right choice to start with? I will learn with this one. I'm asking cz many of my friends are discouraging me on choosing Sony and its reliability, durability, lens limitations. your suggestion will be very very helpful. love your to the point videos.
I want my film work to look more better like them big music video directors... I use filmora editing software right now.... all I have is a camera 📷 right now To shoot music video... I still don’t have the look i want... will I get better camera movement with a stabilizer?? And better editing software like Final Cut Pro???? To have a better look
Do it. My main shooter is an A7S, and my second is a 60D. But as soon as the a6500 drops, the 60D is going to be replaces. Also if you want to check out my channel, that's be tight. Thanks.
Brother you can spend tens of thousands of dollars on cameras. The most important thing is getting to know the basics and play with cameras, so your first should be a basic one, but investing in a nice camera like an A7S or an A6300/6500 will let you take your cinematography to a whole nother lever.
you have great conent Great advice man THANK YOU FOR TALKING ABOUT THE IMPORTANCE OF BRANDING!! the ending is what I came up with recently that branding is really important indeed` great WORK!!!!
Love your videos man and just the fact that you're from Virginia and you have this much work ethic I automatically give you a thumbs up on every video I watch, and this was a great video even showed me some things I need to invest in myself I felt it should've mentioned some sort of software for editing on but I guess that's a bit self explanatory for whatever the person is doing
Very helpful video! I have a question for you though because what you said in another video. if we get the 50mm lens, but we have a Canon Rebel Camera, we don’t have a full frame. So should our best go to lens be a different one like a 40mm or 35mm? Thanks for your help!
ZeroNineFilms 6500 is nice. But it doesn't have a flip screen. But it has really good autofocus, 4K, and better lowlight capabilities. But you got to pay a pretty penny and ain't much choice for lenses
ZeroNineFilms but tbh. I use a t6i and I wouldn't upgrade to a t7i cause it ain't worth it. I recently got a sigma 18-35 and that made my quality way better. I never have a need for 60fps and 720p 60fps is already good. That and I got a g7x that can do 1080 60fps but it ain't as good as my t6i with sigma lens
Thanks a lot for your suggestions, you have saved me a lot of time, one question, how long after filming is the time to edit it and deliver it finished approximately?
This is a great video man, I'm glad you are keeping it real with every beginning film maker. This video has actually helped me decide on getting the Sony A6300 as my next camera. I didn't want to spend a ton of money since the production company I work for owns a RED Epic. But I definitely wanted an upgrade from the Canon t3i. What would be your suggestions on lenses for the Sony? I've always been a Canon fan boy but I guess you can say I'm "growing up" xD.
Bro I'm doing my work on iPhone until I can money but yo u inspiring me to still do the work of the iPhone 6 Plus shooting in 4K and also 1080 thank bro
Mr.Tatham Wah Gwan Ah Road Entertainment my world ! Right now I’m using an iPhone and getting good results. With a phone, stabilization is super important. Start with a tripod-as good as you can afford, because a tripod is something you’ll use with whatever cameras you upgrade to eventually. Look for one with a fluid head so you can get smooth pans and tilts. Along with the tripod, look for a iPhone case that will allow you to mount accessories and that has handles (handles help with stabilization). (Check out iographer.com for an example) Sound is also important, but you don’t need to spend a lot on getting a mic. I’m doing double system sound now with a zoom recorder, but there are a number of low cost microphones out there, either lavalier or camera mounted shotgun, that plug directly into the phone. (Protip: you’ll need a trrs-trs adapter to use many of these mics with a phone.) Check out Rode mics and the cheap Chinese imitations. One more thing about tripods. I couldn’t afford a fluid head so my first iPhone tripod was the manfroto tabletop tripod, which is small enough to double as a hand grip. The nice thing about the manfroto is that it will be sturdy enough to work with my next camera and probably the one after that. The biggest strength in starting with your iPhone is that you can get started right away and start learning right away. The things you learn now as you make do and improvise will serve you later when you have better equipment and help you make better buying decisions. I hope this helps! Happy shooting!
@YCImaging I currently have everything on the list besides the shoulder rig! ( working on the branding). What would you suggest that's next on your list as a replacement for the shoulder rig? Very curious.
I agree with this list, in addition, I would definitely suggest a computer option with some specs for beginners. I remember when I started....GOD!!!!! 😂😂😂
"A hustler will beat someone with talent, every time." Hahaha v true! You can learn that from anywhere, but most people only accept this fact through experience. Subbed for that m80
I hope this isn't a stupid question but I have a sony nex vg30 and I was curious if you think that is a good camera to film with? I am asking this because I am very new to film making
Question I have a gh4 as far as my knowledge goes you need a metabones adapter to work with other lenses does that hold true with the Canon 50mm you're talking about
Here's my take. You do not NEED a metabones ($400), but it will help if you run multiple lens, then it makes sense to buy that adapter. Personally, I shoot with a Olympus 45mm with m4/3 mounts right up on my GH4, and it works just as good, if not better than when I ran my old 50mm f1.8 Canon using a simple adapter, which you can buy on Amazon ($20).
neither have image stabilization. they are both very good for portrait photos and bith have great depth of field. both I favor the Olympus. I researched and it was proven to be a bit sharper.
If you have a GH4 or any camera with a cropped sensor you need to do the math to know what mm will get you to a 50mm in APS-C terms. The 50mm is considered to be the "normal" lens when it comes to filming as it re-creates our perception of the world around us best. A 24mm on the other hand would be distorted and also a 85mm would look more "condensed" than our view. So for a GH4 your best bet would be a 25mm lens since the GH4 has a 2x crop factor
I've had the lumix g7 since december 2015 (first camera). i feel like it's time to upgrade as I'm starting to really get into making music videos and short films. really wanna get the gh5. you think it's about time i upgrade?
I have a gh4 and a canon 50m 1.8. My ef mount adpater goes to 2.8 its a cheap one from ebay, but i focusign is really hard and the lens is a but blurry even when i turn the aperture ring down any help? Appreciate the videos and your work btw.
dude you have great conent man. theres a lot of cats on here who make it sooo damn complicated. you get the info across nice and clear for a dummy like me to understand. no tricks no gimmicks. thanks brotha!
No problem man, I appreciate that.
wassup bro i just wanted to ask do u use 500 mm lens ? because the lens u use look long and the 50 mm lens isnt lol ?????
AlexVizuals he use a 18-35 mm I think some low number like that.
abraham carmona He really does. Very kool dude. YC

Quotation, what do you think about Cinema Grade?
I love the branding advice. I agree 100%!
im starting film making and photography as soon as i get my canon 80d , and i want to do music videos. And you are the perfect channel to follow. SUBSCRIBED
Great advice man
That what I going to get
Your branding may be more important than how your work looks.
This was the Golden nugget from this entire video.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us.
I have the neewer shoulder rig and I can 100% recommend it no bs!
Thanks yo! Bought my first camera, Sony A6000!! Great for my budget price and it does pretty much everything you need.
You are so great!!! I just stumbled upon your videos and I am instantly addicted. Love all of the information that you provide, and how well versed you are!! Keep on making magic!!
I use a sony a6300 with my sigma 18-35 f1.8 (sigma mc-11 adapter) super crispy
can you upload a test?
Vinh Dang that's also what I use for filmmaking
Branding part is so true!! Working on that but just got a $100 stabilizer similar to Glidecam HD series... it's smooth and carbon fiber build!
Nikon D5300 was a good starting point for me. I even had two of them at some point. $600, 24mp, 1080p/60fps and plenty of lenses to choose from. They even made them with the swivel!
bro thank you so much for your advise....this video opened my eyes a bit more...especially the 5th tip
I started out with a rebel T6 and it was a good camera to start from. Another good reason to seriously look into a A7Sii. The sensor stabilization begins to eliminate the need for more and more expensive stabilizer rigs.
I'm happy I found your channel. Everything i've watched from you is so far so good.
Go for it!
Corin Stedman If you invent something great your name is sort of built-in branding. Sted[i]man. Nice.
Great advice man, the ending is what I came up with recently that branding is really important indeed

real talk man. i have a t3i and i love it.
Great camera.
What about marketing in rap video directing?
T3i is still a great camera for rap video directing
I started with that camera. Even used it in professional shoots. Great Great Great camera. Period.

Doesn't the Sony 6300 over heat a lot in 4k🤔 I went with the Panasonic G7
Great video just wished u had the pictures of the items pop up on the sides of you as you mention them would of made it a Excellent video

Haahaha, that Branding Tip is a Major Key.
Nice work and thank you for the starter guide.
I greatly appreciate this video. Everything was very clear and concise. Do you have any more tips/suggestions on branding?
very solid advice! I love the price cutoff!
I started with the Canon T6s, its similar to the T6i and 70D! Only around 1200$
i just picked up a g7 for 450 including the kit lense
I got a a6000. I love it.
hows the a6000 for video. entry level video?
I have never used a DSLR before. I was planning to get a Sony A6300 soon. Cz I need it for travel videography/documentary or even landscape photography or products. is that a right choice to start with? I will learn with this one. Yes I think so
love watching your vids bro !! and anyway are you filming with full hd or 4k on a6300 on your daily vlogs? your grading and the sharpness is awesome !
so the sony a6000 isnt good? i started out with a canon 60D but was thinking of upgrading to the a6500 sony camera. tell me what you think?
Do it. My main shooter is an A7S, and my second is a 60D. But as soon as the a6500 drops, the 60D is going to be replaces. Also if you want to check out my channel, that's be tight. Thanks.
TonyTheCameraGuy 💯
Toney Franco don't waste bigger money on cameras that will only give you little upgrade. Work the camera
Brother you can spend tens of thousands of dollars on cameras. The most important thing is getting to know the basics and play with cameras, so your first should be a basic one, but investing in a nice camera like an A7S or an A6300/6500 will let you take your cinematography to a whole nother lever.
Toney Franco A6000 is a great camera. You can do amazing work with it.
I don't know if you're aware of this .. You're a very inspiring person .. direct info and easy tips and great video as well.
What about just getting a basic zoom lense to start with?
Very informative. You can be a great teacher bruh! Keep it up.
you have great conent
Great advice man
THANK YOU FOR TALKING ABOUT THE IMPORTANCE OF BRANDING!!
the ending is what I came up with recently that branding is really important indeed`
great WORK!!!!
I appreciate it
Do you recommend the 50mm for a crops sensor camera too? I️ have a canon 70d to be specific. Thank you
What did you shoot this on? Color profile is excellent.
I'm a dumbass. You mentioned it in the vid already. Lol. Was the profile custom or a camera preset?
The G7 is a killer camera. The best camera on this list beside the GH4
Can you do a video with the 50mm lens ?
Will do!
I just uploaded my first ever music video.. i wished i had come across your channel earlier. You give great tips and tutorials man keep it up!
Very helpful video! I have a question for you though because what you said in another video. if we get the 50mm lens, but we have a Canon Rebel Camera, we don’t have a full frame. So should our best go to lens be a different one like a 40mm or 35mm? Thanks for your help!
i got the t6i 24 mp bout to upgrade to 80d for 1080p 60fps
ZeroNineFilms t7i has 1080p 60fps and same autofocus as 80d just get the t7i or 77d and save money
FrenchieFries thanks for the tip I'll either go with one of those or the Sony alpha a6500
ZeroNineFilms 6500 is nice. But it doesn't have a flip screen. But it has really good autofocus, 4K, and better lowlight capabilities. But you got to pay a pretty penny and ain't much choice for lenses
FrenchieFries damn I like the flip screen I'll go with t7i for now then try an get into the 4k cameras in the future
Great tips man, thanks, much blessings to you and your crew.
I got a g7 a phantom 3 advanced and osmo plus to start off with my work i just didnt wanna think of a angle i couldnt produce now im limitless lol
Thanks a lot for your suggestions, you have saved me a lot of time, one question, how long after filming is the time to edit it and deliver it finished approximately?

will the Gh4 work with Sigma lenses? and do you need an attachment to make the Canon lenses you recommend work or does it work by itself?
love the info and the video thank you how much for a music video??
@YCImaging I currently have everything on the list besides the shoulder rig! ( working on the branding). What would you suggest that's next on your list as a replacement for the shoulder rig? Very curious.
Newbie to the video game, but not to the photo game, is it an easy transition in your opinion?
cannon t4i is a very good camera I recommend it I bought mine used on eBay for 380$
I agree with this list, in addition, I would definitely suggest a computer option with some specs for beginners. I remember when I started....GOD!!!!! 😂😂😂
@YCImaging please do a tutorial on how to create those cool scribble
animations you did Keese's Plan music video... my is Jonathan
50mm on APC Crop 1.5 is 75mm relative. Are you talking about this focal distance or 35mm full frame that is 52.5mm on APC?
Glad I ran across your channel, great content.. excellent work
Just got a Sony a6500 for dirt cheap. How do you feel about that particular version??
Has the a6300 given you a bunch of overheating problems? And what are your thoughts on the a6500 as a first camera?
What editing equipment should you use to shoot rap videos? U mentioned the cameras but not the program to edit rap vids?

I have a canon 80 d lens that's 18-135 mm would you recommend still buying the 50 mm

Yeah, I heard that f-bomb. Haha

For people who have had experience with both cameras what would you recommend Panasonic g7 or Sony a6300???
Question I have a gh4 as far as my knowledge goes you need a metabones adapter to work with other lenses does that hold true with the Canon 50mm you're talking about
Here's my take. You do not NEED a metabones ($400), but it will help if you run multiple lens, then it makes sense to buy that adapter. Personally, I shoot with a Olympus 45mm with m4/3 mounts right up on my GH4, and it works just as good, if not better than when I ran my old 50mm f1.8 Canon using a simple adapter, which you can buy on Amazon ($20).
I'm curious what you think about that Olympus 45mm lens vs. the Canon 50mm?
neither have image stabilization. they are both very good for portrait photos and bith have great depth of field. both I favor the Olympus.
So for a GH4 your best bet would be a 25mm lens since the GH4 has a 2x crop factor
can you do focus pulling while using a glide cam?
For those asking about the a6000, if you search Sony A6000 video on TH-cam you will come across some awesome work.
thanks so much - so hard to get straight up info like this x
