When you have the 7.5mm Laowa, the GH5 will ask to set the focal length when you turn it on. Just set it as 7.5mm and the IBIS will work! If not then it will jitter like crazy. I hope this helps!
Be aware that the focal length may set back to 35mm when you turn it on. But usually, it would be set to 7.5mm since you entered the number in before. Throughout my trip to Asia I realized this but maybe it was because I was turning the camera off and on too often.
Was actually gonna say; when I saw the thumbnail I thought "Whaaa? He looks alive in this video!" I'm really digging the more natural-looking colors and congrats on that Pana/Leica 12mm! I have a NOCTICRON 42.5 f1.2 and although it's got dreamy colors and sharpness, I can't use it in a small space like your 12mm. The next lens I'm hoping to get is that SIGMA ART 18-35mm with Metabones ULTRA--it should be close to 12mm f1.2 once we factor in crop/speedbooster, right?
good one man... you right,"its just the little things that makes the big difference at the end"... thanks for this man... will start making those changes right away... small businesses need to start working real hard to become big... thanks again from Lagos Nigeria
I really only NEED a single lens, and I’d either choose my 50/1.8 or my 85/1.4. Minimum I prefer to always travel with 3 lenses, a super wide like 14mm, a normal around 35-85 and a versatile telephoto between 200-300.
I love the 45mm - 1.8 by Tamron. Sharp and with VC (IS). I do have that 50 of course, but that 45mm with VC, I can't talk too much about it. Proud of you Chris. You and my guy Chaos are doing your thing. Keep it going.
mine is the 12mm with its natural colors and the sigma 18-35mm ,actually do appreciate it cux do use as an all round lens. but without forgeting this about this video, the color grading is DOPE as i say bro ,you really nailed it dis time again
Awesome video. Mega advice! The advice at the end hit home. I purchased so much off instinct it is crazy. Purchases in Just 1 year: Nikon d750, Sony A7sii, Go Pro 5, Panasonic G85, Panasonic GH5, Ronin M, Zhiyun Crane, Mavic Pro, Sony 16-35 zeiss, and a Lumix 25mm 1.7. Not to mention other stuff I have! Awesome content.
So right about the bit of creating needs. I bought a 85mm f1.4 Canon L series because I saw some beautiful shots coming out of it. What I've found is that I'm not really mature enough in my shooting to be able to really focus down to picking out such a specific image from what I can see, so my $150 canon 50mm spends a lot more time on my camera, and the 85 is in my bag. I can hear it calling, but when I put it on, I get claustrophobic. I feel like I need to see more. Struggling to find what I'm looking for in a tight shot.
Start with a zoom and then build with primes is the best rule of thumb . I personally love the Tokina 17-50 mm 2.8 but I also have the tokina 11-16 2.8 the canon 50mm 1.8 being the 1.4 for me always breaks and the sigma 30mm 1.4
Literally all of my lenses are Cine Primes lol. 12, 20, 35, 85. I bought the Sigma ART 18-35 because you made it look so good but I barely use it anymore. This is definitely a good video for up and comers.
Great video. Loved it. I'm just getting back into photography after a 30 year hiatus. Loving the new lenses and technology, but also loving pairing my antique (still have them) manual Minolta lenses with my newish (for me) canon 650d
I switched over to Panny from Sony and I love the lenses! There's a huge difference between the size and weight of the lenses. Picked up the 12-35 f2.8 ii and the Oly 40-150 f2.8. The Oly 40-150 may be the nicest lens I've ever owned honestly lol.
My 18-55 kit is perfect for what I do... I love the 85 mm for that movie look.. 50 mil is always there and I'm trying to get use to my 35.. Good to know I was on it, this vid confirmed I'm on the right track
Bro,way apart from your videos, your vlogs make us feel good.Like your smile in all the videos, your positive vibes....Keep going,im a sub since u were 27k.Im very glad that u growed up the community.Filmmakers
I agree, it's definetly a must to a 50mm. I used to have the canon 50mm f1.8. Amazing lens for the price, but then I wound up getting a vintage nikon 50mm f1.4 and a metabones speedbooster. It's an amazing combo. I used to have the sigma 18-35mm but sold it. I'm typically on a monopod and such a big and heavy lens with no IS, just didn't work for me. Great video.
I was going to post my Sigma 18-35 on eBay, then I realized I won't have the same durability in shooting gigs with a Micro 4/3rds camera. Sigma Art lenses are a must have
If you're having difficulty focusing up close, you should look into some extension tubes. Warning though, you do lose the ability to focus to/past infinity.
Literally the only channel I can come to an get the rite brake down on the information am looking for thanks Man U motivated on doing videography 🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲 u will always have my support
Being young and new to the dslr area of filmmaking, lenses are kind of daunting. I am currently only using a 30mms and kit lens (that I don't use much) and they do the job :) a 14 year old filmmaker...
Great video man! I just use two lenses Sigma 30mm 1.4 and sigma 17-50 2.8. recently sold my Canon 50mm 1.8 as on a crop was too close for concert photography
Man that Leica 12mm looks amazing in this video!! This is making me want to pick up some Sigma lenses for the GH5 too, but I'd need to pick up an adapter.
Do you got any vids on constructing a film/video shots and angles? do you make story boards? can you make a video on this or talking on how to creatively start a project and finish it from idea to reality
I fell into the camera gear that you never use purchasing trap. lol I find that the Canon 18-135mm lives on my 90D most of the time and gets taken off mostly for the Canon 10-18mm... I need to use my 50mm and 24mm more.... oh, and the 55-250mm... lol... then the 18-55mm kit lens get left on the shelf most always.. I know this is an old video and you probably wont read this but I have been a sub for quite some time. Keep up the great work.. Keep inspiring people... Cheers! 👍
I’m glad you talked about the Sigma 18-35. I’ve been feeling like I need that lens. But you saying your primes are sharper lets me know I don’t need it right now.
As primarily a photographer I can say the 85mm prime is almost invaluable.. I view it as a higher end 50mm because as far as I use, it has more reach and a shallower dof which are what I was looking for in 50mm primes anyway
For Gimbal users, Panasonic 12-35 is a must. It will cover 80% off the time. (Even at 35mm, it's very hard to control. shaky) But it's only F2.8 so get something in very low aperture in medium range for low light. So 2 lenses should be enough. Why? Because if you are watching this, you must be a newb and 2 lenses should be more than you need anyways.
Use 85 for weddings and portraits 15-45 18-55 18-35 16-35 35 50 24-70 24-105 daily driver or for video 8-20 10-24 10-22 for wide landscape. 18-400 16-300 70-200 100-400 100-300 150-600 150-500 Telephoto for wildlife scenes sport.
I got on a6500: 20mm, 35mm and a vintage 58mm. Sometimes I miss a real wide angle or a telephoto but not that much. Looking for the 85mm 1.8, great IQ for the price compared to the batis and gmaster
So here’s my situation: I have 2 kit lenses, (18-55 and 70-200) and a sigma 18-35 and a canon 24 2.8. I am a filmmaker and I want to get either a 50mm 1.8 or an 85. Which one do I pick?
I'm a Micro 4/3 user (GH4) so my favorite so far is the Veydra Mini 35mm and 50mm Prime lens... Great image quality and It's best for my budget right now.. But eventually I'ma get that Sigma 18-35mm with the metabones speedboaster lol.. (Gotta get a least one Canon lens.)
Dear friend my question is for ex.7.5mm lens Laowa its ok but with which machine ? What is crop factor ? If u use that with GH4 or 5 mft mount then mean u dont use real 7.5mm right ?
Dumb question but...if I've already got the Lumix 12-35mm, should I just pass on the 18-35 Sigma? Also...less dumb question. I shoot on a GH5 and haven't invested in a speedbooster yet. Should I just focus on buying native MFT lenses? Currently have invested in the Rokinon 100m and 50mm MFT Cine lenses. Before I go any further, I'd love to know your thoughts.
Bro your videos are awesome!!! Althoug Peter McKinnon and Matti Haapoja are great in their own way... I feel like you are adding something fresh to the camera tutorial / camera vlog scene on TH-cam. Keep it up👌
I own a Sigma 50 1.4 and Sigma 18-35, but am wondering if it would be better for me to sell the 50 and get a Sigma 50-100? I just am thinking it would keep lens changing to a minimum as well as ND changes, etc. What do you think?
I just switched over from sony over to panasonic. Sony lenses just didn't have many options and the full frame lenses are just way too expensive. Gh5 lenses aree also way more small and lightweight. Lenses I got: 12-35 f2.8 35-200 f2.8 25 f1.7 I thought about getting the sigma and speedboost, but it's kinda expenive and reviews showed that it was kinda sketchy and had some black edges What other lenses would you guys recommend?
Best camera under 2k for both photos and videos. Balanced in both but doesn't have to be the best in any category. Good in low light but not a major factor. Better than the 80d or equal to.
TechDevoted I like the a7r2 images and video quality alot but the price is a bit too high and adding the price of high quality lenses. Even a used a7r2 was above 2k by a lot.
I have the Sony FE 85mm but I use it on an a6500 and I have started using it for photos. It has become my go to lense the compression is amazing. I realize it comes out to 127.5mm but man it looks nice. I just have to get really far from the subject just even for portraits. Curious on what you think of this?
Hey great video! Always wanted to see which lenses you own... I wanted to get the Samyang 35mm F1.4 for my Sony a6300 which has an APS-C sensor... would you still like it on a cropped sensor?
It's always interesting to see what lens other people use for their videos. I noticed that you don't have much native m4/3 lenses like Lumix, Olympus, or Leica ones. Any reasons why you favor the Sigma and Canon lenses? I have a Leica 25mm f/1.4 for my G85, and I love it to bits. Probably will pick up the Leica 15mm f/1.7 later.
Give me a 35 and a 50 and I am good. But, on the side.... Bro, do you have a tutorial on how you make your videos soft without RED Giant Cosmo or is it the way you light your videos?
when I think about lenses I usually think about having the tools to get down. so for me Im thinking 14mm 25mm 35mm 50mm 85mm 105mm then some specialty lenses telephoto, wide angles. then I think ill be str8. because at the end of the day I just want tools to " Tell The Story" . Thats it!
I like Sony because of the digital zoom. The full frame cameras. U can put them on super 35 and a 2x crop. Then on top of that u can do a 2x digital zoom which uses even less of the sensor, leaving u with a micro 4/3rd crop. Even a kit lense 28-70mm can become a super zoom 🤣💪. Cool video bro.
I'm trying to get started and have watched all of your videos. I've already copped a few of your recommendations but I will be using my SL2 and 5D Mark II. Are the Sigma 35mm lenses a better option than the Canon 35mm 1.4? Thanks.
What camera are you using for most of your filming gigs? I see you like the GH5.. I was thinking about purchasing the GH5 but the colors tend to be more of a greenish tint and the skin tones are a little different. What are your thoughts. Love your videos, very informative. I put you in my top list of TH-cam creators!!!! Keep up the good work! God bless!
Always informative and dropping gems. I'm still building my lens bag. Two questions: I noticed you like the Sigma line do you rock with the Rokinon lenses? and do you ever see yourself branching out to write and direct movies?
Hey man, if you mainly shoot on the GH5, you should give the Veydra primes a try, they look amazing and are quite "affordable" for cine primes. Keep up the cool videos!
When you have the 7.5mm Laowa, the GH5 will ask to set the focal length when you turn it on. Just set it as 7.5mm and the IBIS will work! If not then it will jitter like crazy. I hope this helps!
REALLY?! Holy lol. I need to try this ASAP
Be aware that the focal length may set back to 35mm when you turn it on. But usually, it would be set to 7.5mm since you entered the number in before. Throughout my trip to Asia I realized this but maybe it was because I was turning the camera off and on too often.
Daniel Sin I have the canon 50mm 1.4. Its legendary. Had it for years and does everything from great photos to videography
I really need to get this laowa 7.5mm for wide but I was hoping they'd make a 1.4 version
I have the 7.5mm Laowa for my GH5s it's a awesome lens. Fortunately for me I don't have IBIS so don't have to worry about jitter
Bro! You've nailed color grading this time. Skin tone, background, everything. Great job.
Haha thanks bro.
I thought it was just me this video was just great on the eyes
Was actually gonna say; when I saw the thumbnail I thought "Whaaa? He looks alive in this video!" I'm really digging the more natural-looking colors and congrats on that Pana/Leica 12mm! so true
Looks buttery smoooooth!
Im confused between sigma 18-35 and 35
That Sigma 35mm is sweet! Also love that 85mm - really interesting how they separate foreground / background.
My 18-35mm & 50mm 1.8 are my main go to lens.
dream58 sigma?
So easy to listen to you because you're just you. Refreshing and natural. Great content too. Thank you.
good one man... you right,"its just the little things that makes the big difference at the end"... thanks for this man... will start making those changes right away... small businesses need to start working real hard to become big... thanks again from Lagos Nigeria
What music video is that at 2:03 ?
I really only NEED a single lens, and I’d either choose my 50/1.8 or my 85/1.4. Minimum I prefer to always travel with 3 lenses, a super wide like 14mm, a normal around 35-85 and a versatile telephoto between 200-300.
Love seeing the come up my dude. Just over the passed year alone I've seen some amazing growth out of you. Keep inspiring
Love the upgrade in lighting! Vlogs are looking good mane
I love the 45mm - 1.8 by Tamron. Sharp and with VC (IS). I do have that 50 of course, but that 45mm with VC, I can't talk too much about it. Proud of you Chris. You and my guy Chaos are doing your thing. Keep it going.

Bro that Sigma 18-35mm f1.8 was my first lens away from my canon kit lens and DAMN I LOVE IT
Awesome video. Mega advice! The advice at the end hit home. I purchased so much off instinct it is crazy. “How many lenses do you need?”
Me: All of them
Great video. Loved it. I'm just getting back into photography after a 30 year hiatus. Loving the new lenses and technology, but also loving pairing my antique (still have them) manual Minolta lenses with my newish (for me) canon 650d

I love primes 30,50,85 can’t go wrong
true that!
My absolutely favourite lenses are 90mm sony macro, sigma 30mm and my manual yashika 50mm 2.0....absoluetly love that lens
I agree, it's definetly a must to a 50mm. I used to have the canon 50mm f1.8. Amazing lens for the price, but then I wound up getting a vintage nikon 50mm f1.4 and a metabones speedbooster. Can you make a video on the settings you use on canon 6D mark 2 ? When you shoot
I was going to post my Sigma 18-35 on eBay, then I realized I won't have the same durability in shooting gigs with a Micro 4/3rds camera. Sigma Art lenses are a must have
... thank for this advice, just about to get xtra lens but i keep asking my self this same question. Know you have solved my problem. Thanks!
If you're having difficulty focusing up close, you should look into some extension tubes. Warning though, you do lose the ability to focus to/past infinity.
I don’t know how to explain this but with the 1st lens the shots feel nice when I watch it. If that makes sense. Maybe it’s your color grading.
I am currently only using a 30mms and kit lens (that I don't use much) and they do the job :)
a 14 year old filmmaker...
I love the Pentax 50mm SMC F/1.2 lens and Voigtlander 42.5mm F/0.95 lens on my GH5s. The shallow depth of field and images are amazing
A7s1 or the a6300 which one do you recommend?
I'm a fan of the 50mm that lens gives so much depth to your photos and videos
Great video man! I just use two lenses Sigma 30mm 1.4 and sigma 17-50 2.8. recently sold my Canon 50mm 1.8 as on a crop was too close for concert photography
For wide angle the new Sigma 16mm f1.4 and for more telephoto the Zeiss 55mm f1.8. Slap the Zeiss on the a6500 and everyting looks just beautiful..
I haven't been this late to one of your uploads in a long time but this VIDEO WAS EXTREMELY HELPFUL!
My fav is my 24-70 f/2.8 on full frame. But, I've got a 16-35 coming, so we'll see.
Cheers! 👍
watching yet another vid ...wow, your lighting and exposure are always spot on ...it is pro quality
I’m glad you talked about the Sigma 18-35. I’ve been feeling like I need that lens. But you saying your primes are sharper lets me know I don’t need it right now.
What did you end up getting?
I ended up getting the Sigma 17-50mm for now.
Dope! My favorite lenses are canon 50mm and 24mm... I do a lot of corporate videos and interviews. They seem to always work perfectly for me.
As primarily a photographer I can say the 85mm prime is almost invaluable.. I view it as a higher end 50mm because as far as I use, it has more reach and a shallower dof which are what I was looking for in 50mm primes anyway

This was a real useful video man. Thanks for keeping it real about buying what you need!
thumbs up for the warmer tones
I got on a6500: 20mm, 35mm and a vintage 58mm. Sometimes I miss a real wide angle or a telephoto but not that much. Looking for the 85mm 1.8, great IQ for the price compared to the batis and gmaster
what adapter do I need to run those lenses using the G85 and GH5?
Metabones for 600+ or the Viltrox ef m2 for 250.00
So here’s my situation: I have 2 kit lenses, (18-55 and 70-200) and a sigma 18-35 and a canon 24 2.8.
I love my 35mm 1.8. Wide, sharp, and I can get some killer background blur.
I got the new Tamron 24-70 it's a great all-around lens for shooting weddings and shoot Sharp video on it
Dumb question but...if I've already got the Lumix 12-35mm, should I just pass on the 18-35 Sigma? Also...less dumb question. I shoot on a GH5 and haven't invested in a speedbooster yet. Should I just focus on buying native MFT lenses? Currently have invested in the Rokinon 100m and 50mm MFT Cine lenses. Before I go any further, I'd love to know your thoughts.
Does sonya6300 with sony28-70mm good for shooting music video please help!!!!!
Hey how come you didn’t talk about the 70-200mm?
Bro your videos are awesome!!! Althoug Peter McKinnon and Matti Haapoja are great in their own way... I feel like you are adding something fresh to the camera tutorial / camera vlog scene on TH-cam. Keep it up👌
your videos are so helpful and straight to the point
Please help your color grading are so unique. Please do a nice tutorial for color grading
I own a Sigma 50 1.4 and Sigma 18-35, but am wondering if it would be better for me to sell the 50 and get a Sigma 50-100? I just am thinking it would keep lens changing to a minimum as well as ND changes, etc. What do you think?
Where can i rent lenses?
What prime lens would be better than the sigma 18-35 for around the same price?
I use the Olympus Zuiko 35mm F/2 prime on my GH5s and also have the Olympus Zuiko 35 to 70mm F/3.6 Zoom
Currently Zeiss Milvus 35mm f2 . But also taking a look at the new Sigma DC 16mm 1.4 for my GH5.
love your grading in this
My Panasonic G7 just arrived today with the 14-42mm kit lens. I have no idea what lens I’ll even want to get next for it. 50mm first you say?
I just switched over from sony over to panasonic. Sony lenses just didn't have many options and the full frame lenses are just way too expensive. Gh5 lenses aree also way more small and lightweight.
Lenses I got:
12-35 f2.8
35-200 f2.8
25 f1.7
I thought about getting the sigma and speedboost, but it's kinda expenive and reviews showed that it was kinda sketchy and had some black edges
What other lenses would you guys recommend?
The 42.5 nocticron is my absolute favorite
I see u didnt mention 12 -35 mm panasonic lens, wat do u think about that lens
Be safe in the ATL.... Be careful with the company you keep and never let them know where you sleep....your a great guy! Enjoy
Best camera under 2k for both photos and videos. Balanced in both but doesn't have to be the best in any category. Good in low light but not a major factor. Better than the 80d or equal to.
Full frame options are also accepted. Mirrorless camera battery lives are a major major turn off. Please help.
Why not an 80D?
D_unexpected 1 a7r2?
YCImaging thanks 80d is alright for me but is there something better. I was considering Nikon d7500 but I hear the videos aren't smooth.
TechDevoted I like the a7r2 images and video quality alot but the price is a bit too high and adding the price of high quality lenses. Even a used a7r2 was above 2k by a lot.
my fav lens is the 85 mm 1.8 for photography. i like the 50mm 1.8 for filming .. i don't care for my 35mm 1.8 i don't have any zoom lens
In the videos for the lenses that you were describing were you shooting on a GH5? or did you only use the GH5 for this video?
I have the Sony FE 85mm but I use it on an a6500 and I have started using it for photos. It has become my go to lense the compression is amazing. I realize it comes out to 127.5mm but man it looks nice. I just have to get really far from the subject just even for portraits. Curious on what you think of this?
this was a great episode YC

Hey great video! Always wanted to see which lenses you own... I wanted to get the Samyang 35mm F1.4 for my Sony a6300 which has an APS-C sensor... would you still like it on a cropped sensor?
Have you tried any of the old Nikon AIS primes? They are game changers.
is it really worth having the 35mm 1.4 if you own the 18-35mm 1.8? I just got the 18-35 and I'm thinking of selling my 35mm.
Which camera do you used regularly??
Thats it!
Using a Panasonic G7 at the moment and can’t wait to get the Sigma lens for it👌🏿
I like Sony because of the digital zoom.
God bless!
what can you say about canon usm 50mm f1.4 sound when focusing. On my 7d with slow autofocus sounds as a crap in video
Always informative and dropping gems. I'm still building my lens bag. Two questions: I noticed you like the Sigma line do you rock with the Rokinon lenses? and do you ever see yourself branching out to write and direct movies?
12mm looks dope man! Kinda gives it a movie feel straight away
Hey man, if you mainly shoot on the GH5, you should give the Veydra primes a try, they look amazing and are quite "affordable" for cine primes.
Keep up the cool videos!
Bro! My EOSR when I shoot with my 85mm the eyepiece hits the back. Is there a fix?
Gotta say I’m certainly loving your videos man. Super super super informative 😁
