This is perfect, man. This past week I started thinking about listing my shots so I know I don't waste time, even with a run and gun event. Gonna definitely be following this format! Got a subscription off of this one.

I agree completely YC that pre-production is one of the most important things to do. It saves time and helps you get all the needed shots and a couple of extra.
What I usually do is 1st come up with a concept, then write a story, then write a script, then make a story board for the most visible scenes and then I know what shots I'd need then when I know what shots I need I write a shot list witch is composed of all the shots and make a diagram of lighting setups and camera movements for different scenes. When that is done I do a shot plan witch is a shot list but put together all the scenes that can be done as one shot and using the same lighting setup. This is to judge what to do move the lighting and camera or do a wardrobe and makeup change or anything along these lines.
One of the most important things to do is I judge how many takes and how long they take factor in how long it takes to set up for each shot and factor in some buffer time of something goes wrong. This lets me create a really tight scheduled that we can stick to so that people know what's being done when and of course from this I can make an equipment list so that the lighting can be moved when makeup and wardrobe is being done etc.
On our last music video we were only 5 minutes behind scheduled when we were finished and in 14 hours had to move all the setups, crew and cast trough 5 locations on a half a mile radius where we had to be on time since we only had 10 min at a time to stop traffic in some places.
Without preparation the video would not have happened and would have been way way over budget even thou the budget was really really low in the beginning.
    So great advice YC! :)

I have been following sooo many channels focusing on production/design over the last couple years and soooo many channels fade in and out for me. I gotta say, YCImaing has stayed consistent and I still always click when I see an upload. You are always putting out helpful and engaging content. Thanks!

Thanks for these videos you make, very informative. Truly, I learn a ton seeing your effort of teaching from your mistakes which makes me to be more prepare when I'm facing a client... Speaking to them knowing what I are my steps into getting the job and expectations, so they have a time frame idea.
I just get little frustrated you know which is normal when you don't all the equipment and this shotlist is a great idea. Which it was something I've been doing BUT not adding equipment to it, time of the shot, and more visual sequence of the shot.
Again great job putting this vid together.
I'm learning as I go, and Im picking up as the challenges come.

I prefer using a tool like Celtx Shots (for Mac) to create a visual shot list. I build up each shot with an image of (more or less) what I want to achieve. The added bonus of this particular app is that you can export the entire storyboard/shot list as a movie file. So you can preview your shoot/edit on a very basic level
